Dua to Repent and Seek Allah's Forgiveness

Every day, the Prophet (ﷺ) would say this more than seventy times:

#780

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوْبُ إِلَيْهِ

Transliteration

Astaghfirullaaha wa 'atoobu 'ilayhi

Translation

I seek the forgiveness of Allah and repent to Him.

Hadith about the Dua

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ فِي الْيَوْمِ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً ‏" ‏‏.‏

Translation

Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying." By Allah! I ask for forgiveness from Allah and turn to Him in repentance more than seventy times a day." [Bukhari: 6307]

Sayyidul Istighfar is the top choice. This prayer wipes away sins and gives people a new beginning. Say it from your heart and you will feel comfort and hope.

Muslims say Astaghfirullah or Astaghfirullaha rabbi wa-atubu ilayhi. Both are simple and loved. The Prophet said them many times daily, so Muslims follow this practice.
