الٓرۚ
Alif-Laaam-Raa.
Alif Laam Ra
تِلۡكَ
Tilka
These
ءَايَٰتُ
ʹAayaatul
(are the) Verses
ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ
kitaabil
(of) the Book
ٱلۡمُبِينِ
Mubeen.
[the] clear
١
12:2
إِنَّآ
ʹInnaaa
Indeed We
أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ
ʹañzalnaahu
We have sent it down
قُرۡءَٰنًا
Q̣urʹaanan
(as) a Quran in Arabic
عَرَبِيّٗا
ʻArabiyyal
(as) a Quran in Arabic
لَّعَلَّكُمۡ
laʻallakum
so that you may
تَعۡقِلُونَ
taʻq̣iloon.
understand
٢
12:3
نَحۡنُ
Naḥnu
We
نَقُصُّ
naq̣uṣṣu
relate
عَلَيۡكَ
ʻalayka
to you
أَحۡسَنَ
ʹaḥsanal
the best
ٱلۡقَصَصِ
q̣aṣaṣi
of the narrations
بِمَآ
bimaaa
in what
أَوۡحَيۡنَآ
ʹawḥaynaaa
We have revealed
إِلَيۡكَ
ʹilayka
to you
هَٰذَا
haaẓal
(of) this
ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ
Q̣urʹaan:
the Quran
وَإِن
wa-ʹiñ
although
كُنتَ
kuñta
you were
مِن
miñ
before it
قَبۡلِهِۦ
q̣ablihee
before it
لَمِنَ
laminal
surely among
ٱلۡغَٰفِلِينَ
g̣aafileen.
the unaware
٣
12:4
إِذۡ
ʹIẓ
When
قَالَ
q̣aala
said
يُوسُفُ
Yoosufu
Yusuf
لِأَبِيهِ
liʹabeehi
to his father
يَٰٓأَبَتِ
yaaaʹabati
O my father
إِنِّي
ʹinnee
Indeed I
رَأَيۡتُ
raʹaytu
I saw
أَحَدَ
ʹaḥada
eleven
عَشَرَ
ʻashara
eleven
كَوۡكَبٗا
kawkabañw
stars
وَٱلشَّمۡسَ
washshamsa
and the sun
وَٱلۡقَمَرَ
walq̣amara
and the moon
رَأَيۡتُهُمۡ
raʹaytuhum
I saw them
لِي
lee
to me
سَٰجِدِينَ
saajideen.
prostrating

قَالَ
Q̣aala
He said
يَٰبُنَيَّ
yaa-bunayya
O my son
لَا
laa-
(Do) not
تَقۡصُصۡ
taq̣ṣuṣ
relate
رُءۡيَاكَ
ruʹyaaka
your vision
عَلَىٰٓ
ʻalaaa
to
إِخۡوَتِكَ
ʹikhwatika
your brothers
فَيَكِيدُواْ
fayakeedoo
lest they plan
لَكَ
laka
against you
كَيۡدًاۖ
kaydaa!
a plot
إِنَّ
ʹInnash
Indeed
ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنَ
shayṭaana
the Shaitaan
لِلۡإِنسَٰنِ
lil-ʹiñsaani
(is) to man
عَدُوّٞ
ʻaduwwum
an enemy
مُّبِينٞ
mubeen!
open
٥
12:6
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
Wa-kaẓaalika
And thus
يَجۡتَبِيكَ
yajtabeeka
will choose you
رَبُّكَ
Rabbuka
your Lord
وَيُعَلِّمُكَ
wa-yuʻallimuka
and will teach you
مِن
miñ
of
تَأۡوِيلِ
taʹweelil
(the) interpretation
ٱلۡأَحَادِيثِ
ʹaḥaadees̤i
(of) the narratives
وَيُتِمُّ
wa-yutimmu
and complete
نِعۡمَتَهُۥ
niʻmatahoo
His Favor
عَلَيۡكَ
ʻalayka
on you
وَعَلَىٰٓ
wa-ʻalaaa
and on
ءَالِ
ʹaali
(the) family
يَعۡقُوبَ
Yaʻq̣ooba
(of) Yaqub
كَمَآ
kamaaa
as
أَتَمَّهَا
ʹatammahaa
He completed it
عَلَىٰٓ
ʻalaaa
on
أَبَوَيۡكَ
ʹabawayka
your two forefathers
مِن
miñ
before
قَبۡلُ
q̣ablu
before
إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ
ʹIbraaheema
Ibrahim
وَإِسۡحَٰقَۚ
wa-ʹisḥaaq̣!
and Isaac
إِنَّ
ʹInna
Indeed
رَبَّكَ
Rabbaka
your Lord
عَلِيمٌ
ʻAleemun
(is) All-Knower
حَكِيمٞ
Ḥakeem.
All-Wise
٦
12:7
۞لَّقَدۡ
Laq̣ad
Certainly
كَانَ
kaana
were
فِي
fee
in
يُوسُفَ
yoosufa
Yusuf
وَإِخۡوَتِهِۦٓ
wa-ʹikhwatihee
and his brothers
ءَايَٰتٞ
ʹAayaatul
signs
لِّلسَّآئِلِينَ
lissaaaʹileen.
for those who ask
٧
12:8
إِذۡ
ʹIẓ
When
قَالُواْ
q̣aaloo
they said
لَيُوسُفُ
la-Yoosufu
Surely Yusuf
وَأَخُوهُ
wa-ʹakhoohu
and his brother
أَحَبُّ
ʹaḥabbu
(are) more beloved
إِلَىٰٓ
ʹilaaa
to
أَبِينَا
ʹabeenaa
our father
مِنَّا
minnaa
than we
وَنَحۡنُ
wa-naḥnu
while we
عُصۡبَةٌ
ʻuṣbah!
(are) a group
إِنَّ
ʹInna
Indeed
أَبَانَا
ʹabaanaa
our father
لَفِي
lafee
(is) surely in
ضَلَٰلٖ
ḍalaalim
an error
مُّبِينٍ
mubeen!
clear
٨
12:9
ٱقۡتُلُواْ
ʹUq̣tuloo
Kill
يُوسُفَ
Yoosufa
Yusuf
أَوِ
ʹawiṭra
or
ٱطۡرَحُوهُ
ḥoohu
cast him
أَرۡضٗا
ʹarḍañy
(to) a land
يَخۡلُ
yakhlu
so will be free
لَكُمۡ
lakum
for you
وَجۡهُ
wajhu
(the) face
أَبِيكُمۡ
ʹabeekum
(of) your father
وَتَكُونُواْ
wa-takoonoo
and you will be
مِنۢ
mim
after that
بَعۡدِهِۦ
baʻdihee
after that
قَوۡمٗا
q̣awmañ
a people
صَٰلِحِينَ
ṣaaliḥeen!
righteous
٩
12:10
قَالَ
Q̣aala
Said
قَآئِلٞ
q̣aaaʹilum
a speaker
مِّنۡهُمۡ
minhum
among them
لَا
laa-
(Do) not
تَقۡتُلُواْ
taq̣tuloo
kill
يُوسُفَ
Yoosufa
Yusuf
وَأَلۡقُوهُ
wa-ʹalq̣oohu
but throw him
فِي
fee
in
غَيَٰبَتِ
g̣ayaabatil
the bottom
ٱلۡجُبِّ
jubbi
(of) the well
يَلۡتَقِطۡهُ
yaltaq̣iṭhu
will pick him
بَعۡضُ
baʻḍus
some
ٱلسَّيَّارَةِ
say-yaarati
[the] caravan
إِن
ʹiñ
if
كُنتُمۡ
kuñtum
you are
فَٰعِلِينَ
faa-ʻileen.
doing
١٠
12:11
قَالُواْ
Q̣aaloo
They said
يَٰٓأَبَانَا
yaaaʹabaanaa
O our father
مَا
maa-
Why
لَكَ
laka
(do) you
لَا
laa-
not
تَأۡمَ۬نَّا
taʹmannaa
trust us
عَلَىٰ
ʻalaa
with
يُوسُفَ
Yoosufa
Yusuf
وَإِنَّا
wa-ʹinnaa
while indeed we
لَهُۥ
lahoo
(are) for him
لَنَٰصِحُونَ
lanaaṣiḥoon?
surely well-wishers
١١
12:12
أَرۡسِلۡهُ
ʹArsilhu
Send him
مَعَنَا
maʻanaa
with us
غَدٗا
g̣adañy
tomorrow
يَرۡتَعۡ
yartaʻwa-
(to) enjoy
وَيَلۡعَبۡ
yalʻab
and play
وَإِنَّا
wa-ʹinnaa
And indeed we
لَهُۥ
lahoo
for him
لَحَٰفِظُونَ
laḥaafiz̤̣oon.
(will) surely (be) guardians
١٢
12:13
قَالَ
Q̣aala
He said
إِنِّي
ʹinnee
Indeed [I]
لَيَحۡزُنُنِيٓ
layaḥzununeee
it surely saddens me
أَن
ʹañ
that
تَذۡهَبُواْ
taẓhaboo
you should take him
بِهِۦ
bihee
you should take him
وَأَخَافُ
wa-ʹakhaafu
and I fear
أَن
ʹañy
that
يَأۡكُلَهُ
yaʹkulahuẓ
would eat him
ٱلذِّئۡبُ
ẓiʹbu
a wolf
وَأَنتُمۡ
wa-ʹañtum
while you
عَنۡهُ
ʻanhu
of him
غَٰفِلُونَ
g̣aafiloon.
(are) unaware
١٣
12:14
قَالُواْ
Q̣aaloo
They said
لَئِنۡ
laʹin
If
أَكَلَهُ
ʹakalahuẓ
eats him
ٱلذِّئۡبُ
ẓiʹbu
the wolf
وَنَحۡنُ
wa-naḥnu
while we
عُصۡبَةٌ
ʻuṣbatun
(are) a group
إِنَّآ
ʹinnaaa
indeed we
إِذٗا
ʹiẓal
then
لَّخَٰسِرُونَ
lakhaasiroon!
surely (would be) losers
١٤

12:15
فَلَمَّا
Falammaa
So when
ذَهَبُواْ
ẓahaboo
they took him
بِهِۦ
bihee
they took him
وَأَجۡمَعُوٓاْ
wa-ʹajmaʻooo
and agreed
أَن
ʹañy
that
يَجۡعَلُوهُ
yajʻaloohu
they put him
فِي
fee
in
غَيَٰبَتِ
g̣ayaabatil
(the) bottom
ٱلۡجُبِّۚ
jubb:
(of) the well
وَأَوۡحَيۡنَآ
wa-ʹawḥaynaaa
But We inspired
إِلَيۡهِ
ʹilayhi
to him
لَتُنَبِّئَنَّهُم
latunabbiʹannahum̃
Surely you will inform them
بِأَمۡرِهِمۡ
biʹamrihim
about this affair
هَٰذَا
haaẓaa
about this affair
وَهُمۡ
wahum
while they
لَا
laa-
(do) not
يَشۡعُرُونَ
yashʻuroon.
perceive
١٥
12:16
وَجَآءُوٓ
Wa-jaaaʹooo
And they came
أَبَاهُمۡ
ʹabaahum
(to) their father
عِشَآءٗ
ʻishaaaʹañy
early at night
يَبۡكُونَ
yabkoon.
weeping
١٦
12:17
قَالُواْ
Q̣aaloo
They said
يَٰٓأَبَانَآ
yaaaʹabaanaaa
O our father
إِنَّا
ʹinnaa
Indeed we
ذَهَبۡنَا
ẓahabnaa
[we] went
نَسۡتَبِقُ
nastabiq̣u
racing each other
وَتَرَكۡنَا
wa-taraknaa
and we left
يُوسُفَ
Yoosufa
Yusuf
عِندَ
ʻiñda
with
مَتَٰعِنَا
mataaʻinaa
our possessions
فَأَكَلَهُ
faʹakalahuẓ
and ate him
ٱلذِّئۡبُۖ
ẓiʹb.
the wolf
وَمَآ
Wa-maaa
But not
أَنتَ
ʹañta
you
بِمُؤۡمِنٖ
bimuʹminil
(will) believe
لَّنَا
lanaa
us
وَلَوۡ
wa-law
even if
كُنَّا
kunnaa
we are
صَٰدِقِينَ
ṣaadiq̣een.
truthful
١٧
12:18
وَجَآءُو
Wa-jaaaʹoo
And they brought
عَلَىٰ
ʻalaa
upon
قَمِيصِهِۦ
q̣ameeṣihee
his shirt
بِدَمٖ
bidamiñ
with false blood
كَذِبٖۚ
kaẓib.
with false blood
قَالَ
Q̣aala
He said
بَلۡ
bal
Nay
سَوَّلَتۡ
sawwalat
has enticed you
لَكُمۡ
lakum
has enticed you
أَنفُسُكُمۡ
ʹañfusukum
your souls
أَمۡرٗاۖ
ʹamraa.
(to) a matter
فَصَبۡرٞ
Faṣabruñ
so patience
جَمِيلٞۖ
jameel:
(is) beautiful
وَٱللَّهُ
wallaahul
And Allah
ٱلۡمُسۡتَعَانُ
Mustaʻaanu
(is) the One sought for help
عَلَىٰ
ʻalaa
against
مَا
maa-
what
تَصِفُونَ
taṣifoon.
you describe
١٨
12:19
وَجَآءَتۡ
Wa-jaaaʹat
And there came
سَيَّارَةٞ
sayyaaratuñ
a caravan
فَأَرۡسَلُواْ
faʹarsaloo
and they sent
وَارِدَهُمۡ
waaridahum
their water drawer
فَأَدۡلَىٰ
faʹadlaa
then he let down
دَلۡوَهُۥۖ
dalwah.
his bucket
قَالَ
Q̣aala
He said
يَٰبُشۡرَىٰ
yaa-bushraa
O good news
هَٰذَا
haaẓaa
This
غُلَٰمٞۚ
g̣ulaam!
(is) a boy
وَأَسَرُّوهُ
Wa-ʹasarroohu
And they hid him
بِضَٰعَةٗۚ
biḍaaʻah!
(as) a merchandise
وَٱللَّهُ
Wallaahu
And Allah
عَلِيمُۢ
ʻaleemum
(is) All-Knower
بِمَا
bimaa
of what
يَعۡمَلُونَ
yaʻmaloon!
they do
١٩
12:20
وَشَرَوۡهُ
Wa-sharawhu
And they sold him
بِثَمَنِۭ
bis̤amanim
for a price
بَخۡسٖ
bakhsiñ
very low
دَرَٰهِمَ
daraahima
dirhams
مَعۡدُودَةٖ
maʻdoodah:
few
وَكَانُواْ
wa-kaanoo
and they were
فِيهِ
feehi
about him
مِنَ
minaz
of
ٱلزَّٰهِدِينَ
zaahideen!
those keen to give up
٢٠
12:21
وَقَالَ
Wa-q̣aalal
And said
ٱلَّذِي
laẓish
the one who
ٱشۡتَرَىٰهُ
taraahu
bought him
مِن
mim
of
مِّصۡرَ
Miṣra
Egypt
لِٱمۡرَأَتِهِۦٓ
limraʹatiheee
to his wife
أَكۡرِمِي
ʹakrimee
Make comfortable
مَثۡوَىٰهُ
mas̤waahu
his stay
عَسَىٰٓ
ʻasaaa
Perhaps
أَن
ʹañy
that
يَنفَعَنَآ
yañfaʻanaaa
(he) will benefit us
أَوۡ
ʹaw
or
نَتَّخِذَهُۥ
nattakhiẓahoo
we will take him
وَلَدٗاۚ
waladaa.
(as) a son
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
Wa-kaẓaalika
And thus
مَكَّنَّا
mak-kannaa
We established
لِيُوسُفَ
li-Yoosufa
Yusuf
فِي
fil
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
ʹarḍi,
the land
وَلِنُعَلِّمَهُۥ
wa-linuʻallimahoo
that We might teach him
مِن
miñ
(the) interpretation of
تَأۡوِيلِ
taʹweelil
(the) interpretation of
ٱلۡأَحَادِيثِۚ
ʹaḥaadees̤.
the events
وَٱللَّهُ
Wallaahu
And Allah
غَالِبٌ
g̣aalibun
(is) Predominant
عَلَىٰٓ
ʻalaaa
over
أَمۡرِهِۦ
ʹamrihee
His affairs
وَلَٰكِنَّ
wa-laakinna
but
أَكۡثَرَ
ʹaks̤aran
most
ٱلنَّاسِ
naasi
(of) the people
لَا
laa
(do) not
يَعۡلَمُونَ
yaʻlamoon.
know
٢١
12:22
وَلَمَّا
Wa-lammaa
And when
بَلَغَ
balag̣a
he reached
أَشُدَّهُۥٓ
ʹashuddahooo
his maturity
ءَاتَيۡنَٰهُ
ʹaataynaahu
We gave him
حُكۡمٗا
ḥukmañw
wisdom
وَعِلۡمٗاۚ
waʻilmaa:
and knowledge
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
wa-kaẓaalika
And thus
نَجۡزِي
najzil
We reward
ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ
Muḥsineen.
the good-doers
٢٢
Page 238
12:23
وَرَٰوَدَتۡهُ
Wa-raawadat-hul
And sought to seduce him
ٱلَّتِي
latee
she who
هُوَ
huwa
he (was)
فِي
fee
in
بَيۡتِهَا
baytihaa
her house
عَن
ʻan
from
نَّفۡسِهِۦ
nafsihee
his self
وَغَلَّقَتِ
wa-g̣allaq̣atil
And she closed
ٱلۡأَبۡوَٰبَ
ʹabwaaba
the doors
وَقَالَتۡ
wa-q̣aalat
and she said
هَيۡتَ
hayta
Come on
لَكَۚ
lak!
you
قَالَ
Q̣aala
He said
مَعَاذَ
maʻaaẓal
I seek refuge in Allah
ٱللَّهِۖ
laahi
I seek refuge in Allah
إِنَّهُۥ
ʹinnahoo
Indeed he
رَبِّيٓ
rabbeee
(is) my lord
أَحۡسَنَ
ʹaḥsana
(who has) made good
مَثۡوَايَۖ
mas̤waay!
my stay
إِنَّهُۥ
Innahoo
Indeed
لَا
laa-
not
يُفۡلِحُ
yufliḥuz̤̣
will succeed
ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ
z̤̣aalimoon!
the wrongdoers
٢٣
12:24
وَلَقَدۡ
Wa-laq̣ad
And certainly
هَمَّتۡ
hammat
she did desire
بِهِۦۖ
bihee
him
وَهَمَّ
wa-hamma
and he would have desired
بِهَا
bihaa
her
لَوۡلَآ
laaa-law
if not
أَن
ʹar
that
رَّءَا
raʹaa
he saw
بُرۡهَٰنَ
burhaana
the proof
رَبِّهِۦۚ
Rabbih:
(of) his Lord
كَذَٰلِكَ
Kaẓaalika
Thus
لِنَصۡرِفَ
linaṣrifa
that We might avert
عَنۡهُ
ʻanhus
from him
ٱلسُّوٓءَ
soooʹa
the evil
وَٱلۡفَحۡشَآءَۚ
wal-faḥshaaaʹ:
and the immorality
إِنَّهُۥ
ʹinnahoo
Indeed he
مِنۡ
min
(was) of
عِبَادِنَا
ʻibaadinal
Our slaves
ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ
Mukhlaṣeen.
the sincere
٢٤
12:25
وَٱسۡتَبَقَا
Wastabaq̣al
And they both raced
ٱلۡبَابَ
baaba
(to) the door
وَقَدَّتۡ
wa-q̣addat
and she tore
قَمِيصَهُۥ
q̣ameeṣahoo
his shirt
مِن
miñ
from
دُبُرٖ
duburiñw
the back
وَأَلۡفَيَا
waʹalfayaa
and they both found
سَيِّدَهَا
sayyidahaa
her husband
لَدَا
ladal
at
ٱلۡبَابِۚ
baab.
the door
قَالَتۡ
Q̣aalat
She said
مَا
maa-
What
جَزَآءُ
jazaaaʹu
(is) the recompense
مَنۡ
man
(of one) who
أَرَادَ
ʹaraada
intended
بِأَهۡلِكَ
biʹahlika
for your wife
سُوٓءًا
soooʹan
evil
إِلَّآ
ʹillaaa
except
أَن
ʹañy
that
يُسۡجَنَ
yusjana
he be imprisoned
أَوۡ
ʹaw
or
عَذَابٌ
ʻaẓaabun
a punishment
أَلِيمٞ
ʹaleem?
painful
٢٥
