12:1الٓرۚAlif-Laaam-Raa.Alif Laam RaتِلۡكَTilkaTheseءَايَٰتُʹAayaatul(are the) Versesٱلۡكِتَٰبِkitaabil(of) the BookٱلۡمُبِينِMubeen.[the] clear١
12:2إِنَّآʹInnaaaIndeed WeأَنزَلۡنَٰهُʹañzalnaahuWe have sent it downقُرۡءَٰنًاQ̣urʹaanan(as) a Quran in ArabicعَرَبِيّٗاʻArabiyyal(as) a Quran in Arabicلَّعَلَّكُمۡlaʻallakumso that you mayتَعۡقِلُونَtaʻq̣iloon.understand٢
12:3نَحۡنُNaḥnuWeنَقُصُّnaq̣uṣṣurelateعَلَيۡكَʻalaykato youأَحۡسَنَʹaḥsanalthe bestٱلۡقَصَصِq̣aṣaṣiof the narrationsبِمَآbimaaain whatأَوۡحَيۡنَآʹawḥaynaaaWe have revealedإِلَيۡكَʹilaykato youهَٰذَاhaaẓal(of) thisٱلۡقُرۡءَانَQ̣urʹaan:the Quranوَإِنwa-ʹiñalthoughكُنتَkuñtayou wereمِنmiñbefore itقَبۡلِهِۦq̣abliheebefore itلَمِنَlaminalsurely amongٱلۡغَٰفِلِينَg̣aafileen.the unaware٣
12:4إِذۡʹIẓWhenقَالَq̣aalasaidيُوسُفُYoosufuYusufلِأَبِيهِliʹabeehito his fatherيَٰٓأَبَتِyaaaʹabatiO my fatherإِنِّيʹinneeIndeed IرَأَيۡتُraʹaytuI sawأَحَدَʹaḥadaelevenعَشَرَʻasharaelevenكَوۡكَبٗاkawkabañwstarsوَٱلشَّمۡسَwashshamsaand the sunوَٱلۡقَمَرَwalq̣amaraand the moonرَأَيۡتُهُمۡraʹaytuhumI saw themلِيleeto meسَٰجِدِينَsaajideen.prostrating٤
12:5قَالَQ̣aalaHe saidيَٰبُنَيَّyaa-bunayyaO my sonلَاlaa-(Do) notتَقۡصُصۡtaq̣ṣuṣrelateرُءۡيَاكَruʹyaakayour visionعَلَىٰٓʻalaaatoإِخۡوَتِكَʹikhwatikayour brothersفَيَكِيدُواْfayakeedoolest they planلَكَlakaagainst youكَيۡدًاۖkaydaa!a plotإِنَّʹInnashIndeedٱلشَّيۡطَٰنَshayṭaanathe Shaitaanلِلۡإِنسَٰنِlil-ʹiñsaani(is) to manعَدُوّٞʻaduwwuman enemyمُّبِينٞmubeen!open٥
12:6وَكَذَٰلِكَWa-kaẓaalikaAnd thusيَجۡتَبِيكَyajtabeekawill choose youرَبُّكَRabbukayour Lordوَيُعَلِّمُكَwa-yuʻallimukaand will teach youمِنmiñofتَأۡوِيلِtaʹweelil(the) interpretationٱلۡأَحَادِيثِʹaḥaadees̤i(of) the narrativesوَيُتِمُّwa-yutimmuand completeنِعۡمَتَهُۥniʻmatahooHis Favorعَلَيۡكَʻalaykaon youوَعَلَىٰٓwa-ʻalaaaand onءَالِʹaali(the) familyيَعۡقُوبَYaʻq̣ooba(of) YaqubكَمَآkamaaaasأَتَمَّهَاʹatammahaaHe completed itعَلَىٰٓʻalaaaonأَبَوَيۡكَʹabawaykayour two forefathersمِنmiñbefore قَبۡلُq̣ablubefore إِبۡرَٰهِيمَʹIbraaheemaIbrahimوَإِسۡحَٰقَۚwa-ʹisḥaaq̣!and IsaacإِنَّʹInnaIndeedرَبَّكَRabbakayour LordعَلِيمٌʻAleemun(is) All-KnowerحَكِيمٞḤakeem.All-Wise٦
12:7۞لَّقَدۡLaq̣adCertainlyكَانَkaanawereفِيfeeinيُوسُفَyoosufaYusufوَإِخۡوَتِهِۦٓwa-ʹikhwatiheeand his brothersءَايَٰتٞʹAayaatulsignsلِّلسَّآئِلِينَlissaaaʹileen.for those who ask٧
12:8إِذۡʹIẓWhenقَالُواْq̣aaloothey saidلَيُوسُفُla-YoosufuSurely Yusufوَأَخُوهُwa-ʹakhoohuand his brotherأَحَبُّʹaḥabbu(are) more belovedإِلَىٰٓʹilaaatoأَبِينَاʹabeenaaour fatherمِنَّاminnaathan weوَنَحۡنُwa-naḥnuwhile weعُصۡبَةٌʻuṣbah!(are) a groupإِنَّʹInnaIndeedأَبَانَاʹabaanaaour fatherلَفِيlafee(is) surely inضَلَٰلٖḍalaaliman errorمُّبِينٍmubeen!clear٨
12:9ٱقۡتُلُواْʹUq̣tulooKillيُوسُفَYoosufaYusufأَوِʹawiṭraorٱطۡرَحُوهُḥoohucast himأَرۡضٗاʹarḍañy(to) a landيَخۡلُyakhluso will be freeلَكُمۡlakumfor youوَجۡهُwajhu(the) faceأَبِيكُمۡʹabeekum(of) your fatherوَتَكُونُواْwa-takoonooand you will beمِنۢmimafter thatبَعۡدِهِۦbaʻdiheeafter thatقَوۡمٗاq̣awmaña peopleصَٰلِحِينَṣaaliḥeen!righteous٩
12:10قَالَQ̣aalaSaidقَآئِلٞq̣aaaʹiluma speakerمِّنۡهُمۡminhumamong themلَاlaa-(Do) notتَقۡتُلُواْtaq̣tulookillيُوسُفَYoosufaYusufوَأَلۡقُوهُwa-ʹalq̣oohubut throw himفِيfeeinغَيَٰبَتِg̣ayaabatilthe bottomٱلۡجُبِّjubbi(of) the wellيَلۡتَقِطۡهُyaltaq̣iṭhuwill pick himبَعۡضُbaʻḍussomeٱلسَّيَّارَةِsay-yaarati[the] caravanإِنʹiñifكُنتُمۡkuñtumyou areفَٰعِلِينَfaa-ʻileen.doing١٠
12:11قَالُواْQ̣aalooThey saidيَٰٓأَبَانَاyaaaʹabaanaaO our fatherمَاmaa-Whyلَكَlaka(do) youلَاlaa-notتَأۡمَ۬نَّاtaʹmannaatrust usعَلَىٰʻalaawithيُوسُفَYoosufaYusufوَإِنَّاwa-ʹinnaawhile indeed weلَهُۥlahoo(are) for himلَنَٰصِحُونَlanaaṣiḥoon?surely well-wishers١١
12:12أَرۡسِلۡهُʹArsilhuSend himمَعَنَاmaʻanaawith usغَدٗاg̣adañytomorrowيَرۡتَعۡyartaʻwa-(to) enjoyوَيَلۡعَبۡyalʻaband playوَإِنَّاwa-ʹinnaaAnd indeed weلَهُۥlahoofor himلَحَٰفِظُونَlaḥaafiz̤̣oon.(will) surely (be) guardians١٢
12:13قَالَQ̣aalaHe saidإِنِّيʹinneeIndeed [I]لَيَحۡزُنُنِيٓlayaḥzununeeeit surely saddens meأَنʹañthatتَذۡهَبُواْtaẓhabooyou should take himبِهِۦbiheeyou should take himوَأَخَافُwa-ʹakhaafuand I fearأَنʹañythatيَأۡكُلَهُyaʹkulahuẓwould eat himٱلذِّئۡبُẓiʹbua wolfوَأَنتُمۡwa-ʹañtumwhile youعَنۡهُʻanhuof himغَٰفِلُونَg̣aafiloon.(are) unaware١٣
12:14قَالُواْQ̣aalooThey saidلَئِنۡlaʹinIfأَكَلَهُʹakalahuẓeats himٱلذِّئۡبُẓiʹbuthe wolfوَنَحۡنُwa-naḥnuwhile weعُصۡبَةٌʻuṣbatun(are) a groupإِنَّآʹinnaaaindeed weإِذٗاʹiẓalthenلَّخَٰسِرُونَlakhaasiroon!surely (would be) losers١٤
12:15فَلَمَّاFalammaaSo whenذَهَبُواْẓahaboothey took himبِهِۦbiheethey took himوَأَجۡمَعُوٓاْwa-ʹajmaʻoooand agreedأَنʹañythatيَجۡعَلُوهُyajʻaloohuthey put himفِيfeeinغَيَٰبَتِg̣ayaabatil(the) bottomٱلۡجُبِّۚjubb:(of) the wellوَأَوۡحَيۡنَآwa-ʹawḥaynaaaBut We inspiredإِلَيۡهِʹilayhito himلَتُنَبِّئَنَّهُمlatunabbiʹannahum̃Surely you will inform themبِأَمۡرِهِمۡbiʹamrihimabout this affairهَٰذَاhaaẓaaabout this affairوَهُمۡwahumwhile theyلَاlaa-(do) notيَشۡعُرُونَyashʻuroon.perceive١٥
12:16وَجَآءُوٓWa-jaaaʹoooAnd they cameأَبَاهُمۡʹabaahum(to) their fatherعِشَآءٗʻishaaaʹañyearly at nightيَبۡكُونَyabkoon.weeping١٦
12:17قَالُواْQ̣aalooThey saidيَٰٓأَبَانَآyaaaʹabaanaaaO our fatherإِنَّاʹinnaaIndeed weذَهَبۡنَاẓahabnaa[we] wentنَسۡتَبِقُnastabiq̣uracing each otherوَتَرَكۡنَاwa-taraknaaand we leftيُوسُفَYoosufaYusufعِندَʻiñdawithمَتَٰعِنَاmataaʻinaaour possessionsفَأَكَلَهُfaʹakalahuẓand ate himٱلذِّئۡبُۖẓiʹb.the wolfوَمَآWa-maaaBut notأَنتَʹañtayouبِمُؤۡمِنٖbimuʹminil(will) believeلَّنَاlanaausوَلَوۡwa-laweven ifكُنَّاkunnaawe areصَٰدِقِينَṣaadiq̣een.truthful١٧
12:18وَجَآءُوWa-jaaaʹooAnd they broughtعَلَىٰʻalaauponقَمِيصِهِۦq̣ameeṣiheehis shirtبِدَمٖbidamiñwith false bloodكَذِبٖۚkaẓib.with false bloodقَالَQ̣aalaHe saidبَلۡbalNayسَوَّلَتۡsawwalathas enticed youلَكُمۡlakumhas enticed youأَنفُسُكُمۡʹañfusukumyour soulsأَمۡرٗاۖʹamraa.(to) a matterفَصَبۡرٞFaṣabruñso patienceجَمِيلٞۖjameel:(is) beautifulوَٱللَّهُwallaahulAnd AllahٱلۡمُسۡتَعَانُMustaʻaanu(is) the One sought for helpعَلَىٰʻalaaagainstمَاmaa-whatتَصِفُونَtaṣifoon.you describe١٨
12:19وَجَآءَتۡWa-jaaaʹatAnd there cameسَيَّارَةٞsayyaaratuña caravanفَأَرۡسَلُواْfaʹarsalooand they sentوَارِدَهُمۡwaaridahumtheir water drawerفَأَدۡلَىٰfaʹadlaathen he let downدَلۡوَهُۥۖdalwah.his bucketقَالَQ̣aalaHe saidيَٰبُشۡرَىٰyaa-bushraaO good newsهَٰذَاhaaẓaaThisغُلَٰمٞۚg̣ulaam!(is) a boyوَأَسَرُّوهُWa-ʹasarroohuAnd they hid himبِضَٰعَةٗۚbiḍaaʻah!(as) a merchandiseوَٱللَّهُWallaahuAnd Allahعَلِيمُۢʻaleemum(is) All-Knowerبِمَاbimaaof whatيَعۡمَلُونَyaʻmaloon!they do١٩
12:20وَشَرَوۡهُWa-sharawhuAnd they sold himبِثَمَنِۭbis̤amanimfor a priceبَخۡسٖbakhsiñvery lowدَرَٰهِمَdaraahimadirhamsمَعۡدُودَةٖmaʻdoodah:fewوَكَانُواْwa-kaanooand they wereفِيهِfeehiabout himمِنَminazofٱلزَّٰهِدِينَzaahideen!those keen to give up٢٠
12:21وَقَالَWa-q̣aalalAnd saidٱلَّذِيlaẓishthe one whoٱشۡتَرَىٰهُtaraahubought himمِنmimofمِّصۡرَMiṣraEgyptلِٱمۡرَأَتِهِۦٓlimraʹatiheeeto his wifeأَكۡرِمِيʹakrimeeMake comfortableمَثۡوَىٰهُmas̤waahuhis stayعَسَىٰٓʻasaaaPerhapsأَنʹañythatيَنفَعَنَآyañfaʻanaaa(he) will benefit usأَوۡʹaworنَتَّخِذَهُۥnattakhiẓahoowe will take himوَلَدٗاۚwaladaa.(as) a sonوَكَذَٰلِكَWa-kaẓaalikaAnd thusمَكَّنَّاmak-kannaaWe establishedلِيُوسُفَli-YoosufaYusufفِيfilinٱلۡأَرۡضِʹarḍi,the landوَلِنُعَلِّمَهُۥwa-linuʻallimahoothat We might teach himمِنmiñ(the) interpretation ofتَأۡوِيلِtaʹweelil(the) interpretation ofٱلۡأَحَادِيثِۚʹaḥaadees̤.the eventsوَٱللَّهُWallaahuAnd Allahغَالِبٌg̣aalibun(is) PredominantعَلَىٰٓʻalaaaoverأَمۡرِهِۦʹamriheeHis affairsوَلَٰكِنَّwa-laakinnabutأَكۡثَرَʹaks̤aranmostٱلنَّاسِnaasi(of) the peopleلَاlaa(do) notيَعۡلَمُونَyaʻlamoon.know٢١
12:22وَلَمَّاWa-lammaaAnd whenبَلَغَbalag̣ahe reachedأَشُدَّهُۥٓʹashuddahooohis maturityءَاتَيۡنَٰهُʹaataynaahuWe gave himحُكۡمٗاḥukmañwwisdomوَعِلۡمٗاۚwaʻilmaa:and knowledgeوَكَذَٰلِكَwa-kaẓaalikaAnd thusنَجۡزِيnajzilWe rewardٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَMuḥsineen.the good-doers٢٢
12:23وَرَٰوَدَتۡهُWa-raawadat-hulAnd sought to seduce himٱلَّتِيlateeshe whoهُوَhuwahe (was)فِيfeeinبَيۡتِهَاbaytihaaher houseعَنʻanfromنَّفۡسِهِۦnafsiheehis selfوَغَلَّقَتِwa-g̣allaq̣atilAnd she closedٱلۡأَبۡوَٰبَʹabwaabathe doorsوَقَالَتۡwa-q̣aalatand she saidهَيۡتَhaytaCome onلَكَۚlak!youقَالَQ̣aalaHe saidمَعَاذَmaʻaaẓalI seek refuge in AllahٱللَّهِۖlaahiI seek refuge in AllahإِنَّهُۥʹinnahooIndeed heرَبِّيٓrabbeee(is) my lordأَحۡسَنَʹaḥsana(who has) made goodمَثۡوَايَۖmas̤waay!my stayإِنَّهُۥInnahooIndeedلَاlaa-notيُفۡلِحُyufliḥuz̤̣will succeedٱلظَّٰلِمُونَz̤̣aalimoon!the wrongdoers٢٣
12:24وَلَقَدۡWa-laq̣adAnd certainlyهَمَّتۡhammatshe did desireبِهِۦۖbiheehimوَهَمَّwa-hammaand he would have desiredبِهَاbihaaherلَوۡلَآlaaa-lawif notأَنʹarthatرَّءَاraʹaahe sawبُرۡهَٰنَburhaanathe proofرَبِّهِۦۚRabbih:(of) his LordكَذَٰلِكَKaẓaalikaThusلِنَصۡرِفَlinaṣrifathat We might avertعَنۡهُʻanhusfrom himٱلسُّوٓءَsoooʹathe evilوَٱلۡفَحۡشَآءَۚwal-faḥshaaaʹ:and the immoralityإِنَّهُۥʹinnahooIndeed heمِنۡmin(was) ofعِبَادِنَاʻibaadinalOur slavesٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَMukhlaṣeen.the sincere٢٤
12:25وَٱسۡتَبَقَاWastabaq̣alAnd they both racedٱلۡبَابَbaaba(to) the doorوَقَدَّتۡwa-q̣addatand she toreقَمِيصَهُۥq̣ameeṣahoohis shirtمِنmiñfromدُبُرٖduburiñwthe backوَأَلۡفَيَاwaʹalfayaaand they both foundسَيِّدَهَاsayyidahaaher husbandلَدَاladalatٱلۡبَابِۚbaab.the doorقَالَتۡQ̣aalatShe saidمَاmaa-Whatجَزَآءُjazaaaʹu(is) the recompenseمَنۡman(of one) whoأَرَادَʹaraadaintendedبِأَهۡلِكَbiʹahlikafor your wifeسُوٓءًاsoooʹanevilإِلَّآʹillaaaexceptأَنʹañythatيُسۡجَنَyusjanahe be imprisonedأَوۡʹaworعَذَابٌʻaẓaabuna punishmentأَلِيمٞʹaleem?painful٢٥
