12:1الٓرۚalif-lam-raAlif Laam Raتِلۡكَtil'kaTheseءَايَٰتُayatu(are the) Versesٱلۡكِتَٰبِal-kitabi(of) the Bookٱلۡمُبِينِal-mubini[the] clear١
12:2إِنَّآinnaIndeed WeأَنزَلۡنَٰهُanzalnahuWe have sent it downقُرۡءَٰنًاqur'anan(as) a Quran in Arabicعَرَبِيّٗاarabiyyan(as) a Quran in Arabicلَّعَلَّكُمۡla'allakumso that you mayتَعۡقِلُونَta'qilunaunderstand٢
12:3نَحۡنُnahnuWeنَقُصُّnaqussurelateعَلَيۡكَalaykato youأَحۡسَنَahsanathe bestٱلۡقَصَصِal-qasasiof the narrationsبِمَآbimain whatأَوۡحَيۡنَآawhaynaWe have revealedإِلَيۡكَilaykato youهَٰذَاhadha(of) thisٱلۡقُرۡءَانَal-qur'anathe Quranوَإِنwa-inalthoughكُنتَkuntayou wereمِنminbefore itقَبۡلِهِۦqablihibefore itلَمِنَlaminasurely amongٱلۡغَٰفِلِينَal-ghafilinathe unaware٣
12:4إِذۡidhWhenقَالَqalasaidيُوسُفُyusufuYusufلِأَبِيهِli-abihito his fatherيَٰٓأَبَتِyaabatiO my fatherإِنِّيinniIndeed Iرَأَيۡتُra-aytuI sawأَحَدَahadaelevenعَشَرَasharaelevenكَوۡكَبٗاkawkabanstarsوَٱلشَّمۡسَwal-shamsaand the sunوَٱلۡقَمَرَwal-qamaraand the moonرَأَيۡتُهُمۡra-aytuhumI saw themلِيlito meسَٰجِدِينَsajidinaprostrating٤
12:5قَالَqalaHe saidيَٰبُنَيَّyabunayyaO my sonلَاla(Do) notتَقۡصُصۡtaqsusrelateرُءۡيَاكَru'yakayour visionعَلَىٰٓalatoإِخۡوَتِكَikh'watikayour brothersفَيَكِيدُواْfayakidulest they planلَكَlakaagainst youكَيۡدًاۖkaydana plotإِنَّinnaIndeedٱلشَّيۡطَٰنَal-shaytanathe Shaitaanلِلۡإِنسَٰنِlil'insani(is) to manعَدُوّٞaduwwunan enemyمُّبِينٞmubinunopen٥
12:6وَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhalikaAnd thusيَجۡتَبِيكَyajtabikawill choose youرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lordوَيُعَلِّمُكَwayu'allimukaand will teach youمِنminofتَأۡوِيلِtawili(the) interpretationٱلۡأَحَادِيثِal-ahadithi(of) the narrativesوَيُتِمُّwayutimmuand completeنِعۡمَتَهُۥni'matahuHis Favorعَلَيۡكَalaykaon youوَعَلَىٰٓwa'alaand onءَالِali(the) familyيَعۡقُوبَya'quba(of) YaqubكَمَآkamaasأَتَمَّهَاatammahaHe completed itعَلَىٰٓalaonأَبَوَيۡكَabawaykayour two forefathersمِنminbefore قَبۡلُqablubefore إِبۡرَٰهِيمَib'rahimaIbrahimوَإِسۡحَٰقَۚwa-is'haqaand IsaacإِنَّinnaIndeedرَبَّكَrabbakayour Lordعَلِيمٌalimun(is) All-KnowerحَكِيمٞhakimunAll-Wise٦
12:7۞لَّقَدۡlaqadCertainlyكَانَkanawereفِيfiinيُوسُفَyusufaYusufوَإِخۡوَتِهِۦٓwa-ikh'watihiand his brothersءَايَٰتٞayatunsignsلِّلسَّآئِلِينَlilssailinafor those who ask٧
12:8إِذۡidhWhenقَالُواْqaluthey saidلَيُوسُفُlayusufuSurely Yusufوَأَخُوهُwa-akhuhuand his brotherأَحَبُّahabbu(are) more belovedإِلَىٰٓilatoأَبِينَاabinaour fatherمِنَّاminnathan weوَنَحۡنُwanahnuwhile weعُصۡبَةٌus'batun(are) a groupإِنَّinnaIndeedأَبَانَاabanaour fatherلَفِيlafi(is) surely inضَلَٰلٖdalalinan errorمُّبِينٍmubininclear٨
12:9ٱقۡتُلُواْuq'tuluKillيُوسُفَyusufaYusufأَوِawiorٱطۡرَحُوهُit'rahuhucast himأَرۡضٗاardan(to) a landيَخۡلُyakhluso will be freeلَكُمۡlakumfor youوَجۡهُwajhu(the) faceأَبِيكُمۡabikum(of) your fatherوَتَكُونُواْwatakunuand you will beمِنۢminafter thatبَعۡدِهِۦba'dihiafter thatقَوۡمٗاqawmana peopleصَٰلِحِينَsalihinarighteous٩
12:10قَالَqalaSaidقَآئِلٞqailuna speakerمِّنۡهُمۡmin'humamong themلَاla(Do) notتَقۡتُلُواْtaqtulukillيُوسُفَyusufaYusufوَأَلۡقُوهُwa-alquhubut throw himفِيfiinغَيَٰبَتِghayabatithe bottomٱلۡجُبِّal-jubi(of) the wellيَلۡتَقِطۡهُyaltaqit'huwill pick himبَعۡضُba'dusomeٱلسَّيَّارَةِal-sayarati[the] caravanإِنinifكُنتُمۡkuntumyou areفَٰعِلِينَfa'ilinadoing١٠
12:11قَالُواْqaluThey saidيَٰٓأَبَانَاyaabanaO our fatherمَاmaWhyلَكَlaka(do) youلَاlanotتَأۡمَ۬نَّاtamannatrust usعَلَىٰalawithيُوسُفَyusufaYusufوَإِنَّاwa-innawhile indeed weلَهُۥlahu(are) for himلَنَٰصِحُونَlanasihunasurely well-wishers١١
12:12أَرۡسِلۡهُarsil'huSend himمَعَنَاma'anawith usغَدٗاghadantomorrowيَرۡتَعۡyarta'(to) enjoyوَيَلۡعَبۡwayal'aband playوَإِنَّاwa-innaAnd indeed weلَهُۥlahufor himلَحَٰفِظُونَlahafizuna(will) surely (be) guardians١٢
12:13قَالَqalaHe saidإِنِّيinniIndeed [I]لَيَحۡزُنُنِيٓlayahzununiit surely saddens meأَنanthatتَذۡهَبُواْtadhhabuyou should take himبِهِۦbihiyou should take himوَأَخَافُwa-akhafuand I fearأَنanthatيَأۡكُلَهُyakulahuwould eat himٱلذِّئۡبُal-dhi'bua wolfوَأَنتُمۡwa-antumwhile youعَنۡهُanhuof himغَٰفِلُونَghafiluna(are) unaware١٣
12:14قَالُواْqaluThey saidلَئِنۡla-inIfأَكَلَهُakalahueats himٱلذِّئۡبُal-dhi'buthe wolfوَنَحۡنُwanahnuwhile weعُصۡبَةٌus'batun(are) a groupإِنَّآinnaindeed weإِذٗاidhanthenلَّخَٰسِرُونَlakhasirunasurely (would be) losers١٤
12:15فَلَمَّاfalammaSo whenذَهَبُواْdhahabuthey took himبِهِۦbihithey took himوَأَجۡمَعُوٓاْwa-ajma'uand agreedأَنanthatيَجۡعَلُوهُyaj'aluhuthey put himفِيfiinغَيَٰبَتِghayabati(the) bottomٱلۡجُبِّۚal-jubi(of) the wellوَأَوۡحَيۡنَآwa-awhaynaBut We inspiredإِلَيۡهِilayhito himلَتُنَبِّئَنَّهُمlatunabbi-annahumSurely you will inform themبِأَمۡرِهِمۡbi-amrihimabout this affairهَٰذَاhadhaabout this affairوَهُمۡwahumwhile theyلَاla(do) notيَشۡعُرُونَyash'urunaperceive١٥
12:16وَجَآءُوٓwajauAnd they cameأَبَاهُمۡabahum(to) their fatherعِشَآءٗishaanearly at nightيَبۡكُونَyabkunaweeping١٦
12:17قَالُواْqaluThey saidيَٰٓأَبَانَآyaabanaO our fatherإِنَّاinnaIndeed weذَهَبۡنَاdhahabna[we] wentنَسۡتَبِقُnastabiquracing each otherوَتَرَكۡنَاwataraknaand we leftيُوسُفَyusufaYusufعِندَindawithمَتَٰعِنَاmata'inaour possessionsفَأَكَلَهُfa-akalahuand ate himٱلذِّئۡبُۖal-dhi'buthe wolfوَمَآwamaBut notأَنتَantayouبِمُؤۡمِنٖbimu'minin(will) believeلَّنَاlanausوَلَوۡwalaweven ifكُنَّاkunnawe areصَٰدِقِينَsadiqinatruthful١٧
12:18وَجَآءُوwajauAnd they broughtعَلَىٰalauponقَمِيصِهِۦqamisihihis shirtبِدَمٖbidaminwith false bloodكَذِبٖۚkadhibinwith false bloodقَالَqalaHe saidبَلۡbalNayسَوَّلَتۡsawwalathas enticed youلَكُمۡlakumhas enticed youأَنفُسُكُمۡanfusukumyour soulsأَمۡرٗاۖamran(to) a matterفَصَبۡرٞfasabrunso patienceجَمِيلٞۖjamilun(is) beautifulوَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahٱلۡمُسۡتَعَانُal-mus'ta'anu(is) the One sought for helpعَلَىٰalaagainstمَاmawhatتَصِفُونَtasifunayou describe١٨
12:19وَجَآءَتۡwajaatAnd there cameسَيَّارَةٞsayyaratuna caravanفَأَرۡسَلُواْfa-arsaluand they sentوَارِدَهُمۡwaridahumtheir water drawerفَأَدۡلَىٰfa-adlathen he let downدَلۡوَهُۥۖdalwahuhis bucketقَالَqalaHe saidيَٰبُشۡرَىٰyabush'raO good newsهَٰذَاhadhaThisغُلَٰمٞۚghulamun(is) a boyوَأَسَرُّوهُwa-asarruhuAnd they hid himبِضَٰعَةٗۚbida'atan(as) a merchandiseوَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahعَلِيمُۢalimun(is) All-Knowerبِمَاbimaof whatيَعۡمَلُونَya'malunathey do١٩
12:20وَشَرَوۡهُwasharawhuAnd they sold himبِثَمَنِۭbithamaninfor a priceبَخۡسٖbakhsinvery lowدَرَٰهِمَdarahimadirhamsمَعۡدُودَةٖma'dudatinfewوَكَانُواْwakanuand they wereفِيهِfihiabout himمِنَminaofٱلزَّٰهِدِينَal-zahidinathose keen to give up٢٠
12:21وَقَالَwaqalaAnd saidٱلَّذِيalladhithe one whoٱشۡتَرَىٰهُish'tarahubought himمِنminofمِّصۡرَmis'raEgyptلِٱمۡرَأَتِهِۦٓli-im'ra-atihito his wifeأَكۡرِمِيakrimiMake comfortableمَثۡوَىٰهُmathwahuhis stayعَسَىٰٓasaPerhapsأَنanthatيَنفَعَنَآyanfa'ana(he) will benefit usأَوۡaworنَتَّخِذَهُۥnattakhidhahuwe will take himوَلَدٗاۚwaladan(as) a sonوَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhalikaAnd thusمَكَّنَّاmakkannaWe establishedلِيُوسُفَliyusufaYusufفِيfiinٱلۡأَرۡضِal-ardithe landوَلِنُعَلِّمَهُۥwalinu'allimahuthat We might teach himمِنmin(the) interpretation ofتَأۡوِيلِtawili(the) interpretation ofٱلۡأَحَادِيثِۚal-ahadithithe eventsوَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahغَالِبٌghalibun(is) PredominantعَلَىٰٓalaoverأَمۡرِهِۦamrihiHis affairsوَلَٰكِنَّwalakinnabutأَكۡثَرَaktharamostٱلنَّاسِal-nasi(of) the peopleلَاla(do) notيَعۡلَمُونَya'lamunaknow٢١
12:22وَلَمَّاwalammaAnd whenبَلَغَbalaghahe reachedأَشُدَّهُۥٓashuddahuhis maturityءَاتَيۡنَٰهُataynahuWe gave himحُكۡمٗاhuk'manwisdomوَعِلۡمٗاۚwa'il'manand knowledgeوَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhalikaAnd thusنَجۡزِيnajziWe rewardٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَal-muh'sininathe good-doers٢٢
12:23وَرَٰوَدَتۡهُwarawadathuAnd sought to seduce himٱلَّتِيallatishe whoهُوَhuwahe (was)فِيfiinبَيۡتِهَاbaytihaher houseعَنanfromنَّفۡسِهِۦnafsihihis selfوَغَلَّقَتِwaghallaqatiAnd she closedٱلۡأَبۡوَٰبَal-abwabathe doorsوَقَالَتۡwaqalatand she saidهَيۡتَhaytaCome onلَكَۚlakayouقَالَqalaHe saidمَعَاذَma'adhaI seek refuge in Allahٱللَّهِۖal-lahiI seek refuge in AllahإِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed heرَبِّيٓrabbi(is) my lordأَحۡسَنَahsana(who has) made goodمَثۡوَايَۖmathwayamy stayإِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeedلَاlanotيُفۡلِحُyuf'lihuwill succeedٱلظَّٰلِمُونَal-zalimunathe wrongdoers٢٣
12:24وَلَقَدۡwalaqadAnd certainlyهَمَّتۡhammatshe did desireبِهِۦۖbihihimوَهَمَّwahammaand he would have desiredبِهَاbihaherلَوۡلَآlawlaif notأَنanthatرَّءَاraahe sawبُرۡهَٰنَbur'hanathe proofرَبِّهِۦۚrabbihi(of) his LordكَذَٰلِكَkadhalikaThusلِنَصۡرِفَlinasrifathat We might avertعَنۡهُanhufrom himٱلسُّوٓءَal-suathe evilوَٱلۡفَحۡشَآءَۚwal-fahshaaand the immoralityإِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed heمِنۡmin(was) ofعِبَادِنَاibadinaOur slavesٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَal-mukh'lasinathe sincere٢٤
12:25وَٱسۡتَبَقَاwa-is'tabaqaAnd they both racedٱلۡبَابَal-baba(to) the doorوَقَدَّتۡwaqaddatand she toreقَمِيصَهُۥqamisahuhis shirtمِنminfromدُبُرٖduburinthe backوَأَلۡفَيَاwa-alfayaand they both foundسَيِّدَهَاsayyidahaher husbandلَدَاladaatٱلۡبَابِۚal-babithe doorقَالَتۡqalatShe saidمَاmaWhatجَزَآءُjazau(is) the recompenseمَنۡman(of one) whoأَرَادَaradaintendedبِأَهۡلِكَbi-ahlikafor your wifeسُوٓءًاsuanevilإِلَّآillaexceptأَنanthatيُسۡجَنَyus'janahe be imprisonedأَوۡaworعَذَابٌadhabuna punishmentأَلِيمٞalimunpainful٢٥
