Hadith about the Dua

Translation

It was narrated from Sahl bin Mu’adh bin Anas Al-Juhani, from his father, that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Whoever eats food and said: Al- hamdu lillahil-ladhi at’amani hadha wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwatin (Praise is to Allah Who has fed me this and provided it for me without any strength or power on my part), - his previous sins will be forgiven.” [Hasan (Albani). Ibn Majah: 3285]

Common Questions

When you finish eating, say a dua to thank Allah for the food. Muslims call it alhamdulillahilladzi or the after meal dua in Islam. It comes from the sunnah.

Say this: O Allah, feed the one who fed me. Give drink to the one who gave me drink. This islamic supplication shows kindness, which is part of dua in Islam.

Before eating, say Bismillah wa ala barakatillah. This short dua asks for blessings. It follows the sunnah of eating and shows respect for the food while you remember Allah.

Allah listens to dua during fasting, especially right before iftar. It is a special time for muslim dua. Many say iftar dua or other dua in Islam for barakah at that moment.

Say Bismillah when you start eating. Say alhamdulillah when you finish. This follows masnoon dua and keeps zikr Allah in your meals, just like islamic supplication teaches.
