اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي عَافَانِيْ مِمَّا ابْتَلَاكَ بِهِ وَفَضَّلَنِيْ عَلَى كَثِيْرٍ مِمَّنْ خَلَقَ تَفْضِيْلًا
Transliteration
Al-hamdu lil-laahil-ladhee ‘aafaanee mim-mab-ta-laaka bihi, wa fad-dala-nee ‛alaa kathee-rin mim-man khalaqa taf-deelaa
Translation
Praise be to Allah who had saved me from what He had afflicted you with, and for honouring me over many of his creations.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بَزِيعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، مَوْلَى آلِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " مَنْ رَأَى صَاحِبَ بَلاَءٍ فَقَالَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي عَافَانِي مِمَّا ابْتَلاَكَ بِهِ وَفَضَّلَنِي عَلَى كَثِيرٍ مِمَّنْ خَلَقَ تَفْضِيلاً إِلاَّ عُوفِيَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْبَلاَءِ كَائِنًا مَا كَانَ مَا عَاشَ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ . وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ . وَعَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ قَهْرَمَانُ آلِ الزُّبَيْرِ هُوَ شَيْخٌ بَصْرِيٌ وَلَيْسَ هُوَ بِالْقَوِيِّ فِي الْحَدِيثِ . وَقَدْ تَفَرَّدَ بِأَحَادِيثَ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ . وَقَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِذَا رَأَى صَاحِبَ بَلاَءٍ فَتَعَوَّذَ مِنْهُ يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ فِي نَفْسِهِ وَلاَ يُسْمِعُ صَاحِبَ الْبَلاَءِ .
Translation
Umar narrated that: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever sees a person afflicted and say: ‘All praise is due to Allah Who saved me from that which He has afflicted you with, and blessed me greatly over many of those whom He has created, (Al-ḥamdulillāhi alladhī `āfānī mimmabtalāka bihī wa faḍḍalanī `alā kathīrin mimman khalaqa tafḍīla)’ then he shall be saved from that affliction for as long as he lives.” [Sahih (Albani). At-Tirmidhi: 3431, 3432]
This simple masnun dua spreads Barakah and love for people you admire. It keeps hearts clean from jealousy and protects from harm in daily life.
Ask Allah to remove pain and sadness: O Allah, Please remove from us our pain, troubles and sadness. This dua calms you and keeps worries away.
For protection from problems, say: O Allah, I hide in You from feeling worried and sad, being weak and lazy, being greedy and scared, heavy debts, and people controlling me. Strong prayer for peace.
When you see someone in trouble, say: Alhamdu lillaahil-lathee 'aafaanee mimmab-talaaka bihi wa fadhdhalanee 'alaa katheerin mimman khalaqa tafdheela. Thank Allah for keeping you safe. Remember He is kind.
If someone is upset, softly say: Alhamdu lillāhi 'l-ladhī `āfānī mimmab-talāka bihiwa faḍḍalanī `alā kathīrin mimman khalaqa tafḍīlā. It reminds you of Allah's help and makes your heart gentle.
For strong safety, say: Oh Allah, I want You to keep me safe from bad things from my ears, eyes, words, heart, and myself. This dua keeps harm away. Trust Allah to protect and give peace.
