اَللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ كَسَوْتَنِيْهِ أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهُ وَخَيْرَ مَا صُنِعَ لَهُ وَأَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ وَشَرِّ مَا صُنِعَ لَهُ

Transliteration

Allaahumma lakal-hamdu 'Anta kasawtaneehi, 'as'aluka khayrahu wa khayra maa suni'a lahu, wa 'a'oodhu bika min sharrihi wa sharri ma suni'a lahu

Translation

O Allah, for You is all praise, You have clothed me with it, I ask You for the good of it and the good for which it was made, and I seek refuge with You from the evil of it and the evil for which it was made.

This dua praises Allah. You thank Him. You ask for good from the new clothes. You ask for safety from harm. Muslims say it when wearing something new to feel blessed and protected.

The hadith shows that the Prophet thanked Allah when he wore new clothes. He asked for good from them. He also asked Allah to keep him safe from any harm linked to the clothes.

Surah Al-Araf, verse 26, explains it. Allah gave clothes to cover private parts and for beauty. But piety is the best dress. This teaches modesty and being thankful.
