وَإِذَآ
wa-idha
And when
أَذَقۡنَا
adhaqna
We let [the] mankind taste
ٱلنَّاسَ
al-nasa
We let [the] mankind taste
رَحۡمَةٗ
rahmatan
mercy
مِّنۢ
min
after
بَعۡدِ
ba'di
after
ضَرَّآءَ
darraa
adversity
مَسَّتۡهُمۡ
massathum
has touched them
إِذَا
idha
behold
لَهُم
lahum
They have
مَّكۡرٞ
makrun
a plot
فِيٓ
fi
against
ءَايَاتِنَاۚ
ayatina
Our Verses
قُلِ
quli
Say
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah
أَسۡرَعُ
asra'u
(is) more swift
مَكۡرًاۚ
makran
(in) planning
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
رُسُلَنَا
rusulana
Our Messengers
يَكۡتُبُونَ
yaktubuna
write down
مَا
ma
what
تَمۡكُرُونَ
tamkuruna
you plot
٢١

No sooner do We let people taste some mercy after some hardship has afflicted them, than they begin to scheme against Our revelations. Say, ‘God schemes even faster.’ Our messengersrecord all your scheming

Translation 1260

10:22
هُوَ
huwa
He
ٱلَّذِي
alladhi
(is) the One Who
يُسَيِّرُكُمۡ
yusayyirukum
enables you to travel
فِي
fi
in
ٱلۡبَرِّ
al-bari
the land
وَٱلۡبَحۡرِۖ
wal-bahri
and the sea
حَتَّىٰٓ
hatta
until
إِذَا
idha
when
كُنتُمۡ
kuntum
you are
فِي
fi
in
ٱلۡفُلۡكِ
al-ful'ki
the ships
وَجَرَيۡنَ
wajarayna
and they sail
بِهِم
bihim
with them
بِرِيحٖ
birihin
with a wind
طَيِّبَةٖ
tayyibatin
good
وَفَرِحُواْ
wafarihu
and they rejoice
بِهَا
biha
therein
جَآءَتۡهَا
jaatha
comes to it
رِيحٌ
rihun
a wind
عَاصِفٞ
asifun
stormy
وَجَآءَهُمُ
wajaahumu
and comes to them
ٱلۡمَوۡجُ
al-mawju
the waves
مِن
min
from
كُلِّ
kulli
every
مَكَانٖ
makanin
place
وَظَنُّوٓاْ
wazannu
and they assume
أَنَّهُمۡ
annahum
that they
أُحِيطَ
uhita
are surrounded
بِهِمۡ
bihim
with them
دَعَوُاْ
da'awu
They call
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
مُخۡلِصِينَ
mukh'lisina
sincerely
لَهُ
lahu
to Him
ٱلدِّينَ
al-dina
(in) the religion
لَئِنۡ
la-in
(saying) If
أَنجَيۡتَنَا
anjaytana
You save us
مِنۡ
min
from
هَٰذِهِۦ
hadhihi
this
لَنَكُونَنَّ
lanakunanna
surely we will be
مِنَ
mina
among
ٱلشَّٰكِرِينَ
al-shakirina
the thankful
٢٢

It is He who enables you to travel on land and sea until, when you are sailing on ships and rejoicing in the favouring wind, a storm arrives: waves come at those on board from all sides and they feel there is no escape. Then they pray to God, professing sincere devotion to Him, ‘If You save us from this we shall be truly thankful.’

Translation 1260

10:23
فَلَمَّآ
falamma
But when
أَنجَىٰهُمۡ
anjahum
He saved them
إِذَا
idha
behold
هُمۡ
hum
They
يَبۡغُونَ
yabghuna
rebel
فِي
fi
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
al-ardi
the earth
بِغَيۡرِ
bighayri
without
ٱلۡحَقِّۗ
al-haqi
[the] right
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
yaayyuha
O mankind
ٱلنَّاسُ
al-nasu
O mankind
إِنَّمَا
innama
Only
بَغۡيُكُمۡ
baghyukum
your rebellion
عَلَىٰٓ
ala
(is) against
أَنفُسِكُمۖ
anfusikum
yourselves
مَّتَٰعَ
mata'a
(the) enjoyment
ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ
al-hayati
(of) the life
ٱلدُّنۡيَاۖ
al-dun'ya
(of) the world
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
إِلَيۡنَا
ilayna
to Us
مَرۡجِعُكُمۡ
marji'ukum
(is) your return
فَنُنَبِّئُكُم
fanunabbi-ukum
and We will inform you
بِمَا
bima
of what
كُنتُمۡ
kuntum
you used (to)
تَعۡمَلُونَ
ta'maluna
do
٢٣

Yet no sooner does He save them than, back on land, they behave outrageously against all that is right. People! Your outrageous behaviour only works against yourselves. Take your little enjoyment in this present life; in the end you will return to Us and We shall confront you with everything you have done

Translation 1260

10:24
إِنَّمَا
innama
Only
مَثَلُ
mathalu
(the) example
ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ
al-hayati
(of) the life
ٱلدُّنۡيَا
al-dun'ya
(of) the world
كَمَآءٍ
kamain
(is) like (the) water
أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ
anzalnahu
which We sent down
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
al-samai
the sky
فَٱخۡتَلَطَ
fa-ikh'talata
so absorbs
بِهِۦ
bihi
[with] it
نَبَاتُ
nabatu
(the) plants
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
al-ardi
(of) the earth
مِمَّا
mimma
from which
يَأۡكُلُ
yakulu
eat
ٱلنَّاسُ
al-nasu
the men
وَٱلۡأَنۡعَٰمُ
wal-an'amu
and the cattle
حَتَّىٰٓ
hatta
until
إِذَآ
idha
when
أَخَذَتِ
akhadhati
takes
ٱلۡأَرۡضُ
al-ardu
the earth
زُخۡرُفَهَا
zukh'rufaha
its adornment
وَٱزَّيَّنَتۡ
wa-izzayyanat
and is beautified
وَظَنَّ
wazanna
and think
أَهۡلُهَآ
ahluha
its people
أَنَّهُمۡ
annahum
that they
قَٰدِرُونَ
qadiruna
have the power
عَلَيۡهَآ
alayha
over it
أَتَىٰهَآ
ataha
comes (to) it
أَمۡرُنَا
amruna
Our command
لَيۡلًا
laylan
(by) night
أَوۡ
aw
or
نَهَارٗا
naharan
(by) day
فَجَعَلۡنَٰهَا
faja'alnaha
and We make it
حَصِيدٗا
hasidan
a harvest clean-mown
كَأَن
ka-an
as if
لَّمۡ
lam
not
تَغۡنَ
taghna
it had flourished
بِٱلۡأَمۡسِۚ
bil-amsi
yesterday
كَذَٰلِكَ
kadhalika
Thus
نُفَصِّلُ
nufassilu
We explain
ٱلۡأٓيَٰتِ
al-ayati
the Signs
لِقَوۡمٖ
liqawmin
for a people
يَتَفَكَّرُونَ
yatafakkaruna
who reflect
٢٤

The life of this world is like this: rain that We send down from the sky is absorbed by the plants of the earth, from which humans and animals eat. But when the earth has taken on its finest appearance, and adorns itself, and its people think they have power over it, then the fate We commanded comes to it, by night or by day, and We reduce it to stubble, as if it had not flourished just the day before. This is the way We explain the revelations for those who reflect

Translation 1260

10:25
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
And Allah
يَدۡعُوٓاْ
yad'u
calls
إِلَىٰ
ila
to
دَارِ
dari
(the) Home
ٱلسَّلَٰمِ
al-salami
(of) the Peace
وَيَهۡدِي
wayahdi
and guides
مَن
man
whom
يَشَآءُ
yashau
He wills
إِلَىٰ
ila
to
صِرَٰطٖ
siratin
(the) straight path
مُّسۡتَقِيمٖ
mus'taqimin
(the) straight path
٢٥

But God invites [everyone] to the Home of Peace, and guides whoever He will to a straight path

Translation 1260

10:26
۞لِّلَّذِينَ
lilladhina
For those who
أَحۡسَنُواْ
ahsanu
do good
ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ
al-hus'na
(is) the best
وَزِيَادَةٞۖ
waziyadatun
and more
وَلَا
wala
And not
يَرۡهَقُ
yarhaqu
(will) cover
وُجُوهَهُمۡ
wujuhahum
their faces
قَتَرٞ
qatarun
dust
وَلَا
wala
and not
ذِلَّةٌۚ
dhillatun
humiliation
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ
ulaika
Those
أَصۡحَٰبُ
ashabu
(are the) companions
ٱلۡجَنَّةِۖ
al-janati
(of) Paradise
هُمۡ
hum
they
فِيهَا
fiha
in it
خَٰلِدُونَ
khaliduna
(will) abide forever
٢٦

Those who did well will have the best reward and more besides. Neither darkness nor shame will cover their faces: these are the companions in Paradise, and there they will remain

Translation 1260

10:27
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhina
And those who
كَسَبُواْ
kasabu
earned
ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ
al-sayiati
the evil deeds
جَزَآءُ
jazau
(the) recompense
سَيِّئَةِۭ
sayyi-atin
(of) an evil deed
بِمِثۡلِهَا
bimith'liha
(is) like it
وَتَرۡهَقُهُمۡ
watarhaquhum
and (will) cover them
ذِلَّةٞۖ
dhillatun
humiliation
مَّا
ma
They will not have
لَهُم
lahum
They will not have
مِّنَ
mina
from
ٱللَّهِ
al-lahi
Allah
مِنۡ
min
any
عَاصِمٖۖ
asimin
defender
كَأَنَّمَآ
ka-annama
As if
أُغۡشِيَتۡ
ugh'shiyat
had been covered
وُجُوهُهُمۡ
wujuhuhum
their faces
قِطَعٗا
qita'an
(with) pieces
مِّنَ
mina
from
ٱلَّيۡلِ
al-layli
the darkness (of) night
مُظۡلِمًاۚ
muz'liman
the darkness (of) night
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ
ulaika
Those
أَصۡحَٰبُ
ashabu
(are the) companions
ٱلنَّارِۖ
al-nari
(of) the Fire
هُمۡ
hum
they
فِيهَا
fiha
in it
خَٰلِدُونَ
khaliduna
(will) abide forever
٢٧

As for those who did evil, each evil deed will be requited by its equal and humiliation will cover them- no one will protect them against God- as though their faces were covered with veils cut from the darkness of the night. These are the inmates of the Fire, and there they shall remain

Translation 1260

10:28
وَيَوۡمَ
wayawma
And (the) Day
نَحۡشُرُهُمۡ
nahshuruhum
We will gather them
جَمِيعٗا
jami'an
all together
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
نَقُولُ
naqulu
We will say
لِلَّذِينَ
lilladhina
to those who
أَشۡرَكُواْ
ashraku
associate partners (with Allah)
مَكَانَكُمۡ
makanakum
(Remain in) your place
أَنتُمۡ
antum
you
وَشُرَكَآؤُكُمۡۚ
washurakaukum
and your partners
فَزَيَّلۡنَا
fazayyalna
Then We will separate
بَيۡنَهُمۡۖ
baynahum
[between] them
وَقَالَ
waqala
and (will) say
شُرَكَآؤُهُم
shurakauhum
their partners
مَّا
ma
Not
كُنتُمۡ
kuntum
you used (to)
إِيَّانَا
iyyana
worship us
تَعۡبُدُونَ
ta'buduna
worship us
٢٨

On the Day We gather them all together, We shall say to those who associate partners with God, ‘Stay in your place, you and your partner-gods.’ Then We shall separate them, and their partner-gods will say, ‘It was not us you worshipped

Translation 1260

10:29
فَكَفَىٰ
fakafa
So sufficient
بِٱللَّهِ
bil-lahi
(is) Allah
شَهِيدَۢا
shahidan
(as) a witness
بَيۡنَنَا
baynana
between us
وَبَيۡنَكُمۡ
wabaynakum
and between you
إِن
in
that
كُنَّا
kunna
we were
عَنۡ
an
of
عِبَادَتِكُمۡ
ibadatikum
your worship
لَغَٰفِلِينَ
laghafilina
certainly unaware
٢٩

God is witness enough between us and you- we had no idea that you worshipped us.’

Translation 1260

10:30
هُنَالِكَ
hunalika
There
تَبۡلُواْ
tablu
will be put to trial
كُلُّ
kullu
every
نَفۡسٖ
nafsin
soul
مَّآ
ma
(for) what
أَسۡلَفَتۡۚ
aslafat
it did previously
وَرُدُّوٓاْ
waruddu
and they will be returned
إِلَى
ila
to
ٱللَّهِ
al-lahi
Allah
مَوۡلَىٰهُمُ
mawlahumu
their Lord
ٱلۡحَقِّۖ
al-haqi
the true
وَضَلَّ
wadalla
and will be lost
عَنۡهُم
anhum
from them
مَّا
ma
what
كَانُواْ
kanu
they used (to)
يَفۡتَرُونَ
yaftaruna
invent
٣٠

Every soul will realize, then and there, what it did in the past. They will be returned to God, their rightful Lord, and their invented [gods] will desert them
