Rub El Hizb 8

One of the 240 subdivisions of the Quran (quarter of a Hizb)

2:124

۞وَإِذِ

Wa-ʹiẓib

And when

ٱبۡتَلَىٰٓ

talaaa

tried

إِبۡرَٰهِـۧمَ

ʹIbraaheema

Ibrahim

رَبُّهُۥ

Rabbuhoo

his Lord

بِكَلِمَٰتٖ

bi-Kalimaatiñ

with words

فَأَتَمَّهُنَّۖ

faʹatammahunna:

and he fulfilled them

قَالَ

q̣aala

He said

إِنِّي

ʹInnee

Indeed I

جَاعِلُكَ

jaaʻiluka

(am) the One to make you

لِلنَّاسِ

linnaasi

for the mankind

إِمَامٗاۖ

ʹImaamaa.

a leader

قَالَ

Q̣aala

He said

وَمِن

wa-miñ

And from

ذُرِّيَّتِيۖ

ẓurriyyatee!

my offspring

قَالَ

Q̣aala

He said

لَا

laa-

(Does) not

يَنَالُ

yanaalu

reach

عَهۡدِي

ʻahdiz̤̣

My Covenant

ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

z̤̣aalimeen.

(to) the wrongdoers

١٢٤

2:125

وَإِذۡ

Wa-ʹiẓ

And when

جَعَلۡنَا

jaʻalnal

We made

ٱلۡبَيۡتَ

Bayta

the House

مَثَابَةٗ

mas̤aabatal

a place of return

لِّلنَّاسِ

linnaasi

for mankind

وَأَمۡنٗا

wa-ʹamnaa;

and (a place of) security

وَٱتَّخِذُواْ

wattakhiẓoo

and (said) Take

مِن

mim

[from]

مَّقَامِ

Maq̣aami

(the) standing place

إِبۡرَٰهِـۧمَ

ʹIbraaheema

(of) Ibrahim

مُصَلّٗىۖ

muṣallaa:

(as) a place of prayer

وَعَهِدۡنَآ

wa-ʻahidnaaa

And We made a covenant

إِلَىٰٓ

ʹilaaa

with

إِبۡرَٰهِـۧمَ

ʹIbraaheema

Ibrahim

وَإِسۡمَٰعِيلَ

wa-ʹIsmaaʻeela

and Ishmael

أَن

ʹañ

[that]

طَهِّرَا

ṭahhiraa

[You both] purify

بَيۡتِيَ

Baytiya

My House

لِلطَّآئِفِينَ

liṭṭaaaʹifeena

for those who circumambulate

وَٱلۡعَٰكِفِينَ

walʻaakifeena

and those who seclude themselves for devotion and prayer

وَٱلرُّكَّعِ

warrukkaʻis

and those who bow down

ٱلسُّجُودِ

sujood.

and those who prostrate

١٢٥

2:126

وَإِذۡ

Wa-ʹiẓ

And when

قَالَ

q̣aala

said

إِبۡرَٰهِـۧمُ

ʹIbraaheemu

Ibrahim

رَبِّ

Rabbij

My Lord

ٱجۡعَلۡ

ʻal

make

هَٰذَا

haaẓaa

this

بَلَدًا

Baladan

a city

ءَامِنٗا

ʹAaminañw

secure

وَٱرۡزُقۡ

warzuq̣

and provide

أَهۡلَهُۥ

ʹahlahoo

its people

مِنَ

minas̤

with

ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ

s̤amaraati

fruits

مَنۡ

man

(to) whoever

ءَامَنَ

ʹaamana

believed

مِنۡهُم

minhum̃

from them

بِٱللَّهِ

billaahi

in Allah

وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ

wal-Yawmil

and the Day

ٱلۡأٓخِرِۚ

ʹAakhir.

the Last

قَالَ

Q̣aala

He said

وَمَن

wa-mañ

And whoever

كَفَرَ

kafara

disbelieved

فَأُمَتِّعُهُۥ

faʹumattiʻuhoo

[then] I will grant him enjoyment

قَلِيلٗا

q̣aleelañ

a little

ثُمَّ

s̤umma

then

أَضۡطَرُّهُۥٓ

ʹaḍṭarruhoo

I will force him

إِلَىٰ

ʹilaa

عَذَابِ

ʻaẓaabin

(the) punishment

ٱلنَّارِۖ

Naar,

(of) the Fire

وَبِئۡسَ

wa-biʹsal

and evil

ٱلۡمَصِيرُ

maṣeer!

(is) the destination

Page 20

2:127

وَإِذۡ

Wa-ʹiẓ

And when

يَرۡفَعُ

yarfaʻu

(was) raising

إِبۡرَٰهِـۧمُ

ʹIbraaheemul

Ibrahim

ٱلۡقَوَاعِدَ

q̣awaaʻida

the foundations

مِنَ

minal

ٱلۡبَيۡتِ

Bayti

the House

وَإِسۡمَٰعِيلُ

wa-ʹIsmaaʻeel:

and Ishmael

رَبَّنَا

Rabbanaa

(saying) Our Lord

تَقَبَّلۡ

taq̣abbal

مِنَّآۖ

minnaa:

from us

إِنَّكَ

ʹinnaka

Indeed You

أَنتَ

ʹAñtas

[You] (are)

ٱلسَّمِيعُ

Sameeʻul

the All-Hearing

ٱلۡعَلِيمُ

ʻAleem.

the All-Knowing

١٢٧

2:128

رَبَّنَا

Rabbanaa

Our Lord

وَٱجۡعَلۡنَا

wajʻalnaa

[and] Make us

مُسۡلِمَيۡنِ

Muslimayni

both submissive

لَكَ

laka

to You

وَمِن

wa-miñ

And from

ذُرِّيَّتِنَآ

ẓurriyyatinaaa

our offspring

أُمَّةٗ

ʹUmmatam

a community

مُّسۡلِمَةٗ

Muslimatal

submissive

لَّكَ

lak;

to You

وَأَرِنَا

wa-ʹarinaa

And show us

مَنَاسِكَنَا

manaasikanaa

our ways of worship

وَتُبۡ

wa-tub

and turn

عَلَيۡنَآۖ

ʻalaynaa;

to us

إِنَّكَ

ʹinnaka

Indeed You

أَنتَ

ʹAntat

[You] (are)

ٱلتَّوَّابُ

Tawwaabur

the Oft-returning

ٱلرَّحِيمُ

Raḥeem.

the Most Merciful

١٢٨

2:129

رَبَّنَا

Rabbanaa

Our Lord

وَٱبۡعَثۡ

wabʻas̤

[And] raise up

فِيهِمۡ

feehim

in them

رَسُولٗا

Rasoolam

a Messenger

مِّنۡهُمۡ

minhum

from them

يَتۡلُواْ

yatloo

(who) will recite

عَلَيۡهِمۡ

ʻalayhim

to them

ءَايَٰتِكَ

ʹAayaatika

Your Verses

وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ

wa-yuʻallimuhumul

and will teach them

ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ

Kitaaba

the Book

وَٱلۡحِكۡمَةَ

wal-Ḥikmata

and the wisdom

وَيُزَكِّيهِمۡۖ

wa-yuzakkeehim:

and purify them

إِنَّكَ

ʹinnaka

Indeed You

أَنتَ

ʹAñtal

You (are)

ٱلۡعَزِيزُ

ʻAzeezul

the All-Mighty

ٱلۡحَكِيمُ

Ḥakeem.

the All-Wise

١٢٩

2:130

وَمَن

Wa-mañy

And who

يَرۡغَبُ

yarg̣abu

will turn away

عَن

ʻam

from

مِّلَّةِ

Millati

(the) religion

إِبۡرَٰهِـۧمَ

ʹIbraaheema

(of) Ibrahim

إِلَّا

ʹillaa

except

مَن

mañ

who

سَفِهَ

safiha

fooled

نَفۡسَهُۥۚ

nafsah?

himself

وَلَقَدِ

Wa-laq̣adiṣ

And indeed

ٱصۡطَفَيۡنَٰهُ

ṭafaynaahu

We chose him

فِي

fid

ٱلدُّنۡيَاۖ

dunyaa:

the world

وَإِنَّهُۥ

wa-ʹinnahoo

and indeed he

فِي

fil

ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ

ʹAakhirati

the Hereafter

لَمِنَ

laminaṣ

surely (will be) among

ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ

Ṣaaliḥeen.

the righteous

١٣٠

2:131

إِذۡ

ʹIẓ

When

قَالَ

q̣aala

said

لَهُۥ

lahoo

to him

رَبُّهُۥٓ

Rabbuhooo

his Lord

أَسۡلِمۡۖ

ʹaslim

Submit (yourself)

قَالَ

q̣aala

he said

أَسۡلَمۡتُ

ʹaslamtu

I (have) submitted (myself)

لِرَبِّ

li-Rabbil

to (the) Lord

ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ

ʻaalameen.

(of) the worlds

١٣١

2:132

وَوَصَّىٰ

Wa-waṣṣaa

And enjoined

بِهَآ

bihaaa

[it]

إِبۡرَٰهِـۧمُ

ʹIbraaheemu

Ibrahim

بَنِيهِ

baneehi

(upon) his sons

وَيَعۡقُوبُ

wa-Yaʻq̣oob:

and Yaqub

يَٰبَنِيَّ

yaa-baniyya

O my sons

إِنَّ

ʹinnal

Indeed

ٱللَّهَ

laahaṣ

Allah

ٱصۡطَفَىٰ

ṭafaa

has chosen

لَكُمُ

lakumud

for you

ٱلدِّينَ

Deena

the religion

فَلَا

falaa

so not

تَمُوتُنَّ

tamootunna

(should) you die

إِلَّا

ʹillaa

except

وَأَنتُم

wa-ʹañtum

while you

مُّسۡلِمُونَ

Muslimoon.

(are) submissive

١٣٢

2:133

أَمۡ

ʹAm

كُنتُمۡ

kuñtum

were you

شُهَدَآءَ

shuhadaaaʹa

witnesses

إِذۡ

ʹiẓ

when

حَضَرَ

ḥaḍara

came to

يَعۡقُوبَ

Yaʻq̣oobal

Yaqub

ٱلۡمَوۡتُ

mawtu

[the] death

إِذۡ

ʹiẓ

when

قَالَ

q̣aala

he said

لِبَنِيهِ

libaneehi

to his sons

مَا

maa-

What

تَعۡبُدُونَ

taʻbudoona

will you worship

مِنۢ

mim

from

بَعۡدِيۖ

baʻdee?

after me

قَالُواْ

Q̣aaloo

They said

نَعۡبُدُ

naʻbudu

We will worship

إِلَٰهَكَ

ʹIlaahaka

your God

وَإِلَٰهَ

wa-ʹIlaaha

and (the) God

ءَابَآئِكَ

ʹaabaaaʹika

(of) your forefathers

إِبۡرَٰهِـۧمَ

ʹIbraaheema

Ibrahim

وَإِسۡمَٰعِيلَ

wa-ʹIsmaaʻeela

and Ishmael

وَإِسۡحَٰقَ

wa-ʹIsḥaaq̣a

and Isaac

إِلَٰهٗا

ʹIlaahañw

God

وَٰحِدٗا

Waaḥidaa:

One

وَنَحۡنُ

wa-naḥnu

And we

لَهُۥ

lahoo

to Him

مُسۡلِمُونَ

Muslimoon.

(are) submissive

١٣٣

2:134

تِلۡكَ

Tilka

This

أُمَّةٞ

ʹummatuñ

(was) a community

قَدۡ

q̣ad

(which)

خَلَتۡۖ

khalat.

has passed away

لَهَا

Lahaa

for it

مَا

maa-

what

كَسَبَتۡ

kasabat

it earned

وَلَكُم

wa-lakum

and for you

مَّا

maa

what

كَسَبۡتُمۡۖ

kasabtum.

you have earned

وَلَا

Wa-laa

And not

تُسۡـَٔلُونَ

tusʹaloona

you will be asked

عَمَّا

ʻammaa

about what

كَانُواْ

kaanoo

they used to

يَعۡمَلُونَ

yaʻmaloon.

2:135

وَقَالُواْ

Wa-q̣aaloo

And they said

كُونُواْ

koonoo

هُودًا

Hoodan

Jews

أَوۡ

ʹaw

نَصَٰرَىٰ

Naṣaaraa

Christians

تَهۡتَدُواْۗ

tahtadoo.

(then) you will be guided

قُلۡ

Q̣ul

Say

بَلۡ

bal

Nay

مِلَّةَ

Millata

(the) religion

إِبۡرَٰهِـۧمَ

ʹIbraaheema

(of) Ibrahim

حَنِيفٗاۖ

Ḥaneefaa,

(the) upright

وَمَا

wa-maa

and not

كَانَ

kaana

he was

مِنَ

minal

ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ

mushrikeen.

those who associated partners (with Allah)

١٣٥

2:136

قُولُوٓاْ

Q̣oolooo

Say

ءَامَنَّا

ʹaamannaa

We have believed

بِٱللَّهِ

billaahi

in Allah

وَمَآ

wa-maaa

and what

أُنزِلَ

ʹuñzila

(is) revealed

إِلَيۡنَا

ʹilaynaa

to us

وَمَآ

wa-maaa

and what

أُنزِلَ

ʹuñzila

was revealed

إِلَىٰٓ

ʹilaaa

إِبۡرَٰهِـۧمَ

ʹIbraaheema

Ibrahim

وَإِسۡمَٰعِيلَ

wa-ʹIsmaaʻeela

and Ishmael

وَإِسۡحَٰقَ

wa-ʹIsḥaaq̣a

and Isaac

وَيَعۡقُوبَ

wa-Yaʻq̣ooba

and Yaqub

وَٱلۡأَسۡبَاطِ

wal-ʹasbaaṭi

and the descendants

وَمَآ

wa-maaa

and what

أُوتِيَ

ʹootiya

was given

مُوسَىٰ

Moosaa

(to) Musa

وَعِيسَىٰ

wa-ʻEesaa

and Isa

وَمَآ

wa-maaa

and what

أُوتِيَ

ʹootiyan

was given

ٱلنَّبِيُّونَ

nabiyyoona

(to) the Prophets

مِن

mir

from

رَّبِّهِمۡ

Rabbihim.

their Lord

لَا

Laa-

Not

نُفَرِّقُ

nufarriq̣u

we make distinction

بَيۡنَ

bayna

between

أَحَدٖ

ʹaḥadim

any

مِّنۡهُمۡ

minhum,

of them

وَنَحۡنُ

wa-naḥnu

And we

لَهُۥ

lahoo

to Him

مُسۡلِمُونَ

Muslimoon.

(are) submissive

١٣٦

2:137

فَإِنۡ

Faʹin

So if

ءَامَنُواْ

ʹaamanoo

they believe[d]

بِمِثۡلِ

bimis̤li

in (the) like

مَآ

maaa

(of) what

ءَامَنتُم

ʹaamañtum̃

you have believed

بِهِۦ

bihee

in [it]

فَقَدِ

faq̣adih

then indeed

ٱهۡتَدَواْۖ

tadaw.

they are (rightly) guided

وَّإِن

Wa-ʹiñ

But if

تَوَلَّوۡاْ

tawallaw

they turn away

فَإِنَّمَا

faʹinnamaa

then only

هُمۡ

hum

they

فِي

fee

(are) in

شِقَاقٖۖ

shiq̣aaq̣:

dissension

فَسَيَكۡفِيكَهُمُ

fasayakfeekahumul

So will suffice you against them

ٱللَّهُۚ

laah,

Allah

وَهُوَ

wa-Huwas

and He

ٱلسَّمِيعُ

Sameeʻul

(is) the All-Hearing

ٱلۡعَلِيمُ

ʻAleem.

the All-Knowing

١٣٧

2:138

صِبۡغَةَ

Ṣibg̣atal

(The) color (religion)

ٱللَّهِ

laah:

(of) Allah

وَمَنۡ

wa-man

And who

أَحۡسَنُ

ʹaḥsanu

(is) better

مِنَ

minal

than

ٱللَّهِ

laahi

Allah

صِبۡغَةٗۖ

ṣibg̣ah?

at coloring

وَنَحۡنُ

Wa-naḥnu

And we

لَهُۥ

lahoo

to Him

عَٰبِدُونَ

ʻaabidoon.

(are) worshippers

١٣٨

2:139

قُلۡ

Q̣ul

Say

أَتُحَآجُّونَنَا

ʹatuḥaaajjoonanaa

Do you argue with us

فِي

fil

about

ٱللَّهِ

laahi

Allah

وَهُوَ

wa-Huwa

while He

رَبُّنَا

Rabbunaa

(is) our Lord

وَرَبُّكُمۡ

wa-Rabbukum;

and your Lord

وَلَنَآ

wa-lanaa

And for us

أَعۡمَٰلُنَا

ʹaʻmaalunaa

(are) our deeds

وَلَكُمۡ

wa-lakum

and for you

أَعۡمَٰلُكُمۡ

ʹaʻmaalukum;

(are) your deeds

وَنَحۡنُ

wa-naḥnu

and we

لَهُۥ

lahoo

to Him

مُخۡلِصُونَ

mukhliṣoon.

(are) sincere

١٣٩

2:140

أَمۡ

ʹAm

تَقُولُونَ

taq̣ooloona

(do) you say

إِنَّ

ʹinna

that

إِبۡرَٰهِـۧمَ

ʹIbraaheema

Ibrahim

وَإِسۡمَٰعِيلَ

wa-ʹIsmaaʻeela

and Ishmael

وَإِسۡحَٰقَ

wa-ʹIsḥaaq̣a

and Isaac

وَيَعۡقُوبَ

wa-Yaʻq̣ooba

and Yaqub

وَٱلۡأَسۡبَاطَ

wal-ʹAsbaaṭa

and the descendants

كَانُواْ

kaanoo

were

هُودًا

Hoodan

Jews

أَوۡ

ʹaw

نَصَٰرَىٰۗ

Naṣaaraa?

Christians

قُلۡ

Q̣ul

Say

ءَأَنتُمۡ

ʹaʹañtum

Are you

أَعۡلَمُ

ʹaʻlamu

better knowing

أَمِ

ʹamil

ٱللَّهُۗ

laah?

(is) Allah

وَمَنۡ

Wa-man

And who

أَظۡلَمُ

ʹaz̤̣lamu

(is) more unjust

مِمَّن

mimmañ

than (the one) who

كَتَمَ

Katama

concealed

شَهَٰدَةً

shahaadatan

a testimony

عِندَهُۥ

ʻiñdahoo

(that) he has

مِنَ

minal

from

ٱللَّهِۗ

laah?

Allah

وَمَا

Wa-mal

And not

ٱللَّهُ

laahu

(is) Allah

بِغَٰفِلٍ

big̣aafilin

unaware

عَمَّا

ʻammaa

of what

تَعۡمَلُونَ

taʻmaloon.

you do

١٤٠

2:141

تِلۡكَ

Tilka

This

أُمَّةٞ

ʹUmmatuñ

(was) a community

قَدۡ

q̣ad

(which)

خَلَتۡۖ

khalat.

has passed away

لَهَا

Lahaa

for it

مَا

maa-

what

كَسَبَتۡ

kasabat

it earned

وَلَكُم

wa-lakum

and for you

مَّا

maa

what

كَسَبۡتُمۡۖ

kasabtum.

you have earned

وَلَا

Wa-laa

And not

تُسۡـَٔلُونَ

tusʹaloona

you will be asked

عَمَّا

ʻammaa

about what

كَانُواْ

kaanoo

they used to

يَعۡمَلُونَ

yaʻmaloon.
