One of the 240 subdivisions of the Quran (quarter of a Hizb)

7:156

۞وَٱكۡتُبۡ

Waktub

And ordain

لَنَا

lanaa

for us

فِي

fee

هَٰذِهِ

haaẓihid

this

ٱلدُّنۡيَا

dunyaa

[the] world

حَسَنَةٗ

ḥasanatañw

good

وَفِي

wafil

and in

ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ

ʹAakhirati

the Hereafter

إِنَّا

ʹinnaa

Indeed we

هُدۡنَآ

hudnaaa

we have turned

إِلَيۡكَۚ

ʹilayk.

to You

قَالَ

Q̣aala

He said

عَذَابِيٓ

ʻaẓaabeee

My punishment

أُصِيبُ

ʹuṣeebu

I afflict

بِهِۦ

bihee

with it

مَنۡ

man

whom

أَشَآءُۖ

ʹashaaaʹ.

I will

وَرَحۡمَتِي

Wa-Raḥmatee

but My Mercy

وَسِعَتۡ

wasiʻat

encompasses

كُلَّ

kulla

every

شَيۡءٖۚ

shayʹ.

thing

فَسَأَكۡتُبُهَا

Fasaʹaktubuhaa

So I will ordain it

لِلَّذِينَ

lil-laẓeena

for those who

يَتَّقُونَ

yattaq̣oona

(are) righteous

وَيُؤۡتُونَ

wa-yuʹtoonaz

and give

ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ

Zakaata

zakah

وَٱلَّذِينَ

wal-laẓeena

and those who

هُم

hum̃

[they]

بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا

biʹAayaatinaa

in Our Verses

يُؤۡمِنُونَ

yuʹminoon;―

they believe

١٥٦

7:157

ٱلَّذِينَ

ʹAllaẓeena

Those who

يَتَّبِعُونَ

yattabiʻoonar

ٱلرَّسُولَ

Rasoolan

the Messenger

ٱلنَّبِيَّ

Nabiyyal

the Prophet

ٱلۡأُمِّيَّ

ʹUmmiyyal

the unlettered

ٱلَّذِي

laẓee

whom

يَجِدُونَهُۥ

yajidoonahoo

they find him

مَكۡتُوبًا

maktooban

written

عِندَهُمۡ

ʻiñdahum

with them

فِي

fit

ٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةِ

Tawraati

the Taurat

وَٱلۡإِنجِيلِ

wal-ʹIñjeel.

and the Injeel

يَأۡمُرُهُم

Yaʹmuruhum̃

He commands them

بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ

bilmaʻroofi

to the right

وَيَنۡهَىٰهُمۡ

wa-yanhaahum

and forbids them

عَنِ

ʻanil

from

ٱلۡمُنكَرِ

muñkari

the wrong

وَيُحِلُّ

wa-yuḥillu

and he makes lawful

لَهُمُ

lahumuṭ

for them

ٱلطَّيِّبَٰتِ

ṭayyibaati

the pure things

وَيُحَرِّمُ

wa-yuḥarrimu

and makes unlawful

عَلَيۡهِمُ

ʻalayhimul

for them

ٱلۡخَبَٰٓئِثَ

khabaaaʹis̤a

the impure things

وَيَضَعُ

wa-yaḍaʻu

and he relieves

عَنۡهُمۡ

ʻanhum

from them

إِصۡرَهُمۡ

ʹiṣrahum

their burden

وَٱلۡأَغۡلَٰلَ

wal-ʹag̣laalal

and the fetters

ٱلَّتِي

latee

which

كَانَتۡ

kanat

were

عَلَيۡهِمۡۚ

ʻalayhim.

upon them

فَٱلَّذِينَ

Fallaẓeena

So those who

ءَامَنُواْ

ʹaamanoo

believe

بِهِۦ

bihee

in him

وَعَزَّرُوهُ

wa-ʻazzaroohu

and honor him

وَنَصَرُوهُ

wa-naṣaroohu

and help him

وَٱتَّبَعُواْ

wattabaʻun

and follow

ٱلنُّورَ

Nooral

the light

ٱلَّذِيٓ

laẓeee

which

أُنزِلَ

ʹuñzila

has been sent down

مَعَهُۥٓ

maʻahooo

with him

أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ

ʹulaaaʹika

Those (are)

هُمُ

humul

[they]

ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ

Mufliḥoon.

the successful ones

١٥٧

7:158

قُلۡ

Q̣ul

Say

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا

yaaaʹayyuhan

ٱلنَّاسُ

naasu

mankind

إِنِّي

ʹinnee

Indeed I am

رَسُولُ

Rasoolul

(the) Messenger

ٱللَّهِ

laahi

(of) Allah

إِلَيۡكُمۡ

ʹilaykum

to you

جَمِيعًا

jameeʻanil

all

ٱلَّذِي

laẓee

the One

لَهُۥ

lahoo

for Whom

مُلۡكُ

mulkus

(is the) dominion

ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ

samaawaati

(of) the heavens

وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ

wal-ʹarḍ.

and the earth

لَآ

Laaa

(There is) no

إِلَٰهَ

ʹillaa

god

إِلَّا

ʹilaaha

except

هُوَ

Huwa

Him

يُحۡيِۦ

yuḥyee

He gives life

وَيُمِيتُۖ

wa-yumeet.

and causes death

فَـَٔامِنُواْ

Faʹaaminoo

So believe

بِٱللَّهِ

billaahi

in Allah

وَرَسُولِهِ

wa-Rasoolihin

and His Messenger

ٱلنَّبِيِّ

Nabiyyil

the Prophet

ٱلۡأُمِّيِّ

ʹUmmiyyil

the unlettered

ٱلَّذِي

laẓee

the one who

يُؤۡمِنُ

yuʹminu

believes

بِٱللَّهِ

billaahi

in Allah

وَكَلِمَٰتِهِۦ

wa-Kalimaatihee

and His Words

وَٱتَّبِعُوهُ

wattabiʻoohu

and follow him

لَعَلَّكُمۡ

laʻallakum

so that you may

تَهۡتَدُونَ

tahtadoon.

(be) guided

١٥٨

7:159

وَمِن

Wa-miñ

And among

قَوۡمِ

q̣awmi

(the) people

مُوسَىٰٓ

Moosaaa

(of) Musa

أُمَّةٞ

ʹummatuñy

(is) a community

يَهۡدُونَ

yahdoona

(which) guides

بِٱلۡحَقِّ

bilḥaq̣q̣i

with truth

وَبِهِۦ

wa-bihee

and by it

يَعۡدِلُونَ

yaʻdiloon.

establishes justice

7:160

وَقَطَّعۡنَٰهُمُ

Wa-q̣aṭṭaʻnaahumus̤

And We divided them

ٱثۡنَتَيۡ

natay

(into) two

عَشۡرَةَ

ʹasbaaṭan

(and) ten [ie twelve]

أَسۡبَاطًا

ʻashrata

tribes

أُمَمٗاۚ

ʹumamaa.

(as) communities

وَأَوۡحَيۡنَآ

Wa-ʹawḥaynaaa

And We inspired

إِلَىٰ

ʹilaa

مُوسَىٰٓ

Moosaaa

Musa

إِذِ

ʹiẓis

when

ٱسۡتَسۡقَىٰهُ

tasq̣aahu

asked him for water

قَوۡمُهُۥٓ

q̣awmuhooo

his people

أَنِ

ʹaniḍ

[that]

ٱضۡرِب

rib

Strike

بِّعَصَاكَ

biʻaṣaakal

with your staff

ٱلۡحَجَرَۖ

ḥajar.

the stone

فَٱنۢبَجَسَتۡ

Fambajasat

Then gushed forth

مِنۡهُ

minhus̤

from it

ٱثۡنَتَا

nataa

two

عَشۡرَةَ

ʻashrata

(and) ten [ie twelve]

عَيۡنٗاۖ

ʻaynaa

springs

قَدۡ

q̣ad

Certainly

عَلِمَ

ʻalima

knew

كُلُّ

kullu

each

أُنَاسٖ

ʹunaasim

people

مَّشۡرَبَهُمۡۚ

mashrabahum.

their drinking place

وَظَلَّلۡنَا

Waz̤̣allalnaa

And We shaded

عَلَيۡهِمُ

ʻalayhimul

[on] them

ٱلۡغَمَٰمَ

g̣amaama

(with) the clouds

وَأَنزَلۡنَا

wa-ʹañzalnaa

and We sent down

عَلَيۡهِمُ

ʻalayhimul

upon them

ٱلۡمَنَّ

Manna

the manna

وَٱلسَّلۡوَىٰۖ

was-Salwaa:

and the quails

كُلُواْ

kuloo

Eat

مِن

miñ

from

طَيِّبَٰتِ

ṭayyibaati

(the) good things

مَا

maa-

which

رَزَقۡنَٰكُمۡۚ

razaq̣naakum.

We have provided you

وَمَا

Wa-maa

And not

ظَلَمُونَا

z̤̣alamoonaa

they wronged Us

وَلَٰكِن

wa-laakiñ

but

كَانُوٓاْ

kaanooo

they were

أَنفُسَهُمۡ

ʹañfusahum

(to) themselves

يَظۡلِمُونَ

yaz̤̣limoon.

doing wrong

١٦٠

7:161

وَإِذۡ

Wa-ʹiẓ

And when

قِيلَ

q̣eela

it was said

لَهُمُ

lahumus

to them

ٱسۡكُنُواْ

kunoo

Live

هَٰذِهِ

haaẓihil

(in) this

ٱلۡقَرۡيَةَ

q̣aryata

city

وَكُلُواْ

wa-kuloo

and eat

مِنۡهَا

minhaa

from it

حَيۡثُ

ḥays̤u

wherever

شِئۡتُمۡ

shiʹtum

you wish

وَقُولُواْ

wa-q̣ooloo

and say

حِطَّةٞ

Ḥiṭṭatuñw

Repentance

وَٱدۡخُلُواْ

wadkhulul

and enter

ٱلۡبَابَ

baaba

the gate

سُجَّدٗا

sujjadan

prostrating

نَّغۡفِرۡ

nag̣fir

We will forgive

لَكُمۡ

lakum

for you

خَطِيٓـَٰٔتِكُمۡۚ

khaṭeeeʹaatikum:

your sins

سَنَزِيدُ

sanazeedul

We will increase (reward)

ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ

Muḥsineen.

(of) the good-doers

١٦١

7:162

فَبَدَّلَ

Fabaddalal

But changed

ٱلَّذِينَ

laẓeena

those who

ظَلَمُواْ

z̤̣alamoo

wronged

مِنۡهُمۡ

minhum

among them

قَوۡلًا

q̣awlan

word

غَيۡرَ

g̣ayral

other than

ٱلَّذِي

laẓee

(that) which

قِيلَ

q̣eela

was said

لَهُمۡ

lahum

to them

فَأَرۡسَلۡنَا

faʹarsalnaa

So We sent

عَلَيۡهِمۡ

ʻalayhim

upon them

رِجۡزٗا

rijzam

torment

مِّنَ

minas

from

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

samaaaʹi

the sky

بِمَا

bimaa

because

كَانُواْ

kaanoo

they were

يَظۡلِمُونَ

yaz̤̣limoon.

doing wrong

١٦٢

7:163

وَسۡـَٔلۡهُمۡ

Wasʹalhum

And ask them

عَنِ

ʻanil

about

ٱلۡقَرۡيَةِ

q̣aryatil

the town

ٱلَّتِي

latee

which

كَانَتۡ

kaanat

was

حَاضِرَةَ

ḥaaḍiratal

situated

ٱلۡبَحۡرِ

baḥr.

(by) the sea

إِذۡ

ʹIẓ

when

يَعۡدُونَ

yaʻdoona

they transgressed

فِي

fis

ٱلسَّبۡتِ

Sabti

the (matter of) Sabbath

إِذۡ

ʹiẓ

when

تَأۡتِيهِمۡ

taʹteehim

came to them

حِيتَانُهُمۡ

ḥeetaanuhum

their fish

يَوۡمَ

yawma

(on the) day

سَبۡتِهِمۡ

Sabtihim

(of) their Sabbath

شُرَّعٗا

shurraʻañw

visibly

وَيَوۡمَ

wayawma

and (on the) day

لَا

laa-

not

يَسۡبِتُونَ

yasbitoona

they had Sabbath

لَا

laa-

(they did) not

تَأۡتِيهِمۡۚ

taʹteehim.

come to them

كَذَٰلِكَ

Kaẓaalika

Thus

نَبۡلُوهُم

nabloohum̃

We test them

بِمَا

bimaa

because

كَانُواْ

kaanoo

they were

يَفۡسُقُونَ

yafsuq̣oon.

defiantly disobeying

7:164

وَإِذۡ

wa-ʹiẓ

And when

قَالَتۡ

q̣aalat

said

أُمَّةٞ

ʹummatum

a community

مِّنۡهُمۡ

minhum

among them

لِمَ

lima

Why

تَعِظُونَ

taʻiz̤̣oona

(do) you preach

قَوۡمًا

q̣aw-manil

a people

ٱللَّهُ

laahu

(whom) Allah

مُهۡلِكُهُمۡ

muhlikuhum

(is going to) destroy them

أَوۡ

ʹaw

مُعَذِّبُهُمۡ

muʻaẓẓibuhum

punish them

عَذَابٗا

ʻazaabañ

(with) a punishment

شَدِيدٗاۖ

shadeedaa?

severe

قَالُواْ

Q̣aaloo

They said

مَعۡذِرَةً

maʻẓiratan

To be absolved

إِلَىٰ

ʹilaa

before

رَبِّكُمۡ

Rabbikum

your Lord

وَلَعَلَّهُمۡ

wa-laʻallahum

and that they may

يَتَّقُونَ

yattaq̣oon.

become righteous

١٦٤

7:165

فَلَمَّا

Falammaa

So when

نَسُواْ

nasoo

they forgot

مَا

maa-

what

ذُكِّرُواْ

ẓukkiroo

they had been reminded

بِهِۦٓ

biheee

with [it]

أَنجَيۡنَا

ʹañjaynal

We saved

ٱلَّذِينَ

laẓeena

those who

يَنۡهَوۡنَ

yanhawna

forbade

عَنِ

ʻanis

[from]

ٱلسُّوٓءِ

soooʹi

the evil

وَأَخَذۡنَا

wa-ʹakhaẓnal

and We seized

ٱلَّذِينَ

laẓeena

those who

ظَلَمُواْ

z̤̣alamoo

wronged

بِعَذَابِۭ

biʻaẓaabim

with a punishment

بَـِٔيسِۭ

baʹeesim

wretched

بِمَا

bimaa

because

كَانُواْ

kaanoo

they were

يَفۡسُقُونَ

yafsuq̣oon.

defiantly disobeying

١٦٥

7:166

فَلَمَّا

Falammaa

So when

عَتَوۡاْ

ʻataw

they exceeded all bounds

عَن

ʻam

about

مَّا

maa

what

نُهُواْ

nuhoo

they were forbidden

عَنۡهُ

ʻanhu

from it

قُلۡنَا

q̣ulnaa

We said

لَهُمۡ

lahum

to them

كُونُواْ

koonoo

قِرَدَةً

q̣iradatan

apes

خَٰسِـِٔينَ

khaasiʹeen.

despised

١٦٦

7:167

وَإِذۡ

Wa-ʹiẓ

And when

تَأَذَّنَ

taʹaẓẓana

declared

رَبُّكَ

Rabbuka

your Lord

لَيَبۡعَثَنَّ

layabʻas̤anna

that He would surely send

عَلَيۡهِمۡ

ʻalayhim

upon them

إِلَىٰ

ʹilaa

till

يَوۡمِ

yawmil

(the) Day

ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ

Q̣iyaamati

(of) the Resurrection

مَن

mañy

(those) who

يَسُومُهُمۡ

yasoomuhum

would afflict them

سُوٓءَ

soooʹal

(with) a grievous

ٱلۡعَذَابِۗ

ʻaẓaab.

[the] punishment

إِنَّ

ʹInna

Indeed

رَبَّكَ

rabbaka

your Lord

لَسَرِيعُ

la-Sareeʻul

(is) surely swift

ٱلۡعِقَابِ

ʻiq̣aabi

(in) the retribution

وَإِنَّهُۥ

wa-ʹinnahoo

but indeed He

لَغَفُورٞ

la-G̣afoorur

(is) surely Oft-Forgiving

رَّحِيمٞ

Raḥeem.

Most Merciful

١٦٧

7:168

وَقَطَّعۡنَٰهُمۡ

Wa-q̣aṭṭaʻnaahum

And We divided them

فِي

fil

ٱلۡأَرۡضِ

ʹarḍi

the earth

أُمَمٗاۖ

ʹumamaa.

(as) nations

مِّنۡهُمُ

Min-humuṣ

Among them

ٱلصَّٰلِحُونَ

ṣaaliḥoona

(are) the righteous

وَمِنۡهُمۡ

wa-minhum

and among them

دُونَ

doona

(are) other than

ذَٰلِكَۖ

ẓaalik.

that

وَبَلَوۡنَٰهُم

Wa-balawnaahum̃

And We tested them

بِٱلۡحَسَنَٰتِ

bil-ḥasanaati

with the good

وَٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ

was-sayyiʹaati

and the bad

لَعَلَّهُمۡ

laʻallahum

so that they may

يَرۡجِعُونَ

yarjiʻoon.

return

١٦٨

7:169

فَخَلَفَ

Fakhalafa

Then succeeded

مِنۢ

mim

from

بَعۡدِهِمۡ

baʻdihim

after them

خَلۡفٞ

khalfuñw

successors

وَرِثُواْ

waris̤ul

(who) inherited

ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ

Kitaaba

the Book

يَأۡخُذُونَ

yaʹkhuẓoona

taking

عَرَضَ

ʻaraḍa

goods

هَٰذَا

haaẓal

(of) this

ٱلۡأَدۡنَىٰ

ʹadnaa

the lower (life)

وَيَقُولُونَ

wa-yaq̣ooloona

and they say

سَيُغۡفَرُ

sayug̣faru

It will be forgiven

لَنَا

lanaa.

for us

وَإِن

Wa-ʹiñy

And if

يَأۡتِهِمۡ

yaʹtihim

comes to them

عَرَضٞ

ʻaraḍum

goods

مِّثۡلُهُۥ

mis̤luhoo

similar to it

يَأۡخُذُوهُۚ

yaʹkhuẓooh.

they will take it

أَلَمۡ

ʹAlam

Was not

يُؤۡخَذۡ

Yuʹkhaẓ

taken

عَلَيۡهِم

ʻalayhim

on them

مِّيثَٰقُ

Mees̤aaq̣ul

Covenant

ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ

Kitaabi

(of) the Book

أَن

ʹal

that

لَّا

laa

not

يَقُولُواْ

yaq̣ooloo

they will say

عَلَى

ʻalal

about

ٱللَّهِ

laahi

Allah

إِلَّا

ʹillal

except

ٱلۡحَقَّ

ḥaq̣q̣a

the truth

وَدَرَسُواْ

wadarasoo

while they studied

مَا

maa-

what

فِيهِۗ

feeh?

(is) in it

وَٱلدَّارُ

Wad-Daarul

And the home

ٱلۡأٓخِرَةُ

ʹAakhiratu

(of) the Hereafter

خَيۡرٞ

khayrul

(is) better

لِّلَّذِينَ

lil-laẓeena

for those who

يَتَّقُونَۚ

yattaq̣oon.

fear Allah

أَفَلَا

ʹAfalaa

So will not

تَعۡقِلُونَ

taʻq̣iloon?

you use intellect

١٦٩

7:170

وَٱلَّذِينَ

Wallaẓeena

And those who

يُمَسِّكُونَ

yumassikoona

hold fast

بِٱلۡكِتَٰبِ

bil-Kitaabi

to the Book

وَأَقَامُواْ

wa-ʹaq̣aamuṣ

and establish

ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ

Ṣalaata

the prayer

إِنَّا

ʹinnaa

indeed We

لَا

laa-

(will) not

نُضِيعُ

nuḍeeʻu

[We] let go waste

أَجۡرَ

ʹajral

(the) reward

ٱلۡمُصۡلِحِينَ

Muṣliḥeen.

(of) the reformers
