One of the 240 subdivisions of the Quran (quarter of a Hizb)

5:27
۞وَٱتۡلُ
wa-ut'lu
And recite
عَلَيۡهِمۡ
alayhim
to them
نَبَأَ
naba-a
the story
ٱبۡنَيۡ
ib'nay
(of) two sons
ءَادَمَ
adama
(of) Adam
بِٱلۡحَقِّ
bil-haqi
in truth
إِذۡ
idh
when
قَرَّبَا
qarraba
both offered
قُرۡبَانٗا
qur'banan
a sacrifice
فَتُقُبِّلَ
fatuqubbila
and it was accepted
مِنۡ
min
from
أَحَدِهِمَا
ahadihima
one of them
وَلَمۡ
walam
and not
يُتَقَبَّلۡ
yutaqabbal
was accepted
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلۡأٓخَرِ
al-akhari
the other
قَالَ
qala
Said (the latter)
لَأَقۡتُلَنَّكَۖ
la-aqtulannaka
Surely I will kill you
قَالَ
qala
Said (the former)
إِنَّمَا
innama
Only
يَتَقَبَّلُ
yataqabbalu
accepts
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
(does) Allah
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ
al-mutaqina
the God fearing
٢٧
5:28
لَئِنۢ
la-in
If
بَسَطتَ
basatta
you stretch
إِلَيَّ
ilayya
towards me
يَدَكَ
yadaka
your hand
لِتَقۡتُلَنِي
litaqtulani
to kill me
مَآ
ma
not
أَنَا۠
ana
will I
بِبَاسِطٖ
bibasitin
stretch
يَدِيَ
yadiya
my hand
إِلَيۡكَ
ilayka
towards you
لِأَقۡتُلَكَۖ
li-aqtulaka
to kill you
إِنِّيٓ
inni
indeed I
أَخَافُ
akhafu
fear
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
رَبَّ
rabba
(the) Lord
ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
al-'alamina
(of) the worlds
٢٨
5:29
إِنِّيٓ
inni
Indeed I
أُرِيدُ
uridu
wish
أَن
an
that
تَبُوٓأَ
tabua
you be laden
بِإِثۡمِي
bi-ith'mi
with my sin
وَإِثۡمِكَ
wa-ith'mika
and your sin
فَتَكُونَ
fatakuna
so you will be
مِنۡ
min
among
أَصۡحَٰبِ
ashabi
(the) companions
ٱلنَّارِۚ
al-nari
(of) the Fire
وَذَٰلِكَ
wadhalika
and that
جَزَٰٓؤُاْ
jazau
(is the) recompense
ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
al-zalimina
(of) the wrong-doers
٢٩
5:30
فَطَوَّعَتۡ
fatawwa'at
Then prompted
لَهُۥ
lahu
to him
نَفۡسُهُۥ
nafsuhu
his soul
قَتۡلَ
qatla
(to) kill
أَخِيهِ
akhihi
his brother
فَقَتَلَهُۥ
faqatalahu
so he killed him
فَأَصۡبَحَ
fa-asbaha
and became
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلۡخَٰسِرِينَ
al-khasirina
the losers
٣٠
5:31
فَبَعَثَ
faba'atha
Then (was) sent
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
(by) Allah
غُرَابٗا
ghuraban
a crow
يَبۡحَثُ
yabhathu
it (was) scratching
فِي
fi
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
al-ardi
the earth
لِيُرِيَهُۥ
liyuriyahu
to show him
كَيۡفَ
kayfa
how
يُوَٰرِي
yuwari
to hide
سَوۡءَةَ
sawata
(the) dead body
أَخِيهِۚ
akhihi
(of) his brother
قَالَ
qala
He said
يَٰوَيۡلَتَىٰٓ
yawaylata
Woe to me
أَعَجَزۡتُ
a'ajaztu
Am I unable
أَنۡ
an
that
أَكُونَ
akuna
I can be
مِثۡلَ
mith'la
like
هَٰذَا
hadha
this
ٱلۡغُرَابِ
al-ghurabi
[the] crow
فَأُوَٰرِيَ
fa-uwariya
and hide
سَوۡءَةَ
sawata
(the) dead body
أَخِيۖ
akhi
(of) my brother
فَأَصۡبَحَ
fa-asbaha
Then he became
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلنَّٰدِمِينَ
al-nadimina
the regretful

مِنۡ
min
From
أَجۡلِ
ajli
time
ذَٰلِكَ
dhalika
that
كَتَبۡنَا
katabna
We ordained
عَلَىٰ
ala
on
بَنِيٓ
bani
(the) Children
إِسۡرَٰٓءِيلَ
is'raila
(of) Israel
أَنَّهُۥ
annahu
that he
مَن
man
who
قَتَلَ
qatala
kills
نَفۡسَۢا
nafsan
a soul
بِغَيۡرِ
bighayri
other than
نَفۡسٍ
nafsin
(for) a soul
أَوۡ
aw
or
فَسَادٖ
fasadin
(for) spreading corruption
فِي
fi
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
al-ardi
the earth
فَكَأَنَّمَا
faka-annama
then (it) is as if
قَتَلَ
qatala
he has killed
ٱلنَّاسَ
al-nasa
mankind
جَمِيعٗا
jami'an
all
وَمَنۡ
waman
and whoever
أَحۡيَاهَا
ahyaha
saves it
فَكَأَنَّمَآ
faka-annama
then (it) is as if
أَحۡيَا
ahya
he has saved
ٱلنَّاسَ
al-nasa
mankind
جَمِيعٗاۚ
jami'an
all
وَلَقَدۡ
walaqad
And surely
جَآءَتۡهُمۡ
jaathum
came to them
رُسُلُنَا
rusuluna
Our Messengers
بِٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتِ
bil-bayinati
with clear Signs
ثُمَّ
thumma
yet
إِنَّ
inna
indeed
كَثِيرٗا
kathiran
many
مِّنۡهُم
min'hum
of them
بَعۡدَ
ba'da
after
ذَٰلِكَ
dhalika
that
فِي
fi
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
al-ardi
the earth
لَمُسۡرِفُونَ
lamus'rifuna
(are) surely those who commit excesses
٣٢
5:33
إِنَّمَا
innama
Only
جَزَٰٓؤُاْ
jazau
(the) recompense
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
(for) those who
يُحَارِبُونَ
yuharibuna
wage war
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
(against) Allah
وَرَسُولَهُۥ
warasulahu
and His Messenger
وَيَسۡعَوۡنَ
wayas'awna
and strive
فِي
fi
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
al-ardi
the earth
فَسَادًا
fasadan
spreading corruption
أَن
an
(is) that
يُقَتَّلُوٓاْ
yuqattalu
they be killed
أَوۡ
aw
or
يُصَلَّبُوٓاْ
yusallabu
they be crucified
أَوۡ
aw
or
تُقَطَّعَ
tuqatta'a
be cut off
أَيۡدِيهِمۡ
aydihim
their hands
وَأَرۡجُلُهُم
wa-arjuluhum
and their feet
مِّنۡ
min
of
خِلَٰفٍ
khilafin
opposite sides
أَوۡ
aw
or
يُنفَوۡاْ
yunfaw
they be exiled
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ
al-ardi
the land
ذَٰلِكَ
dhalika
That
لَهُمۡ
lahum
(is) for them
خِزۡيٞ
khiz'yun
disgrace
فِي
fi
in
ٱلدُّنۡيَاۖ
al-dun'ya
the world
وَلَهُمۡ
walahum
and for them
فِي
fi
in
ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ
al-akhirati
the Hereafter
عَذَابٌ
adhabun
(is) a punishment
عَظِيمٌ
azimun
great
٣٣
5:34
إِلَّا
illa
Except
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
those who
تَابُواْ
tabu
repent
مِن
min
from
قَبۡلِ
qabli
before
أَن
an
that
تَقۡدِرُواْ
taqdiru
you overpower
عَلَيۡهِمۡۖ
alayhim
[over] them
فَٱعۡلَمُوٓاْ
fa-i'lamu
then know
أَنَّ
anna
that
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
غَفُورٞ
ghafurun
(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٞ
rahimun
Most Merciful
٣٤
5:35
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
yaayyuha
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
who
ءَامَنُواْ
amanu
believe
ٱتَّقُواْ
ittaqu
Fear
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
وَٱبۡتَغُوٓاْ
wa-ib'taghu
and seek
إِلَيۡهِ
ilayhi
towards Him
ٱلۡوَسِيلَةَ
al-wasilata
the means
وَجَٰهِدُواْ
wajahidu
and strive hard
فِي
fi
in
سَبِيلِهِۦ
sabilihi
His way
لَعَلَّكُمۡ
la'allakum
so that you may
تُفۡلِحُونَ
tuf'lihuna
succeed
٣٥
5:36
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
those who
كَفَرُواْ
kafaru
disbelieve
لَوۡ
law
if
أَنَّ
anna
that
لَهُم
lahum
for them
مَّا
ma
(is) what
فِي
fi
(is) in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
al-ardi
the earth
جَمِيعٗا
jami'an
all
وَمِثۡلَهُۥ
wamith'lahu
and the like of it
مَعَهُۥ
ma'ahu
with it
لِيَفۡتَدُواْ
liyaftadu
to ransom themselves
بِهِۦ
bihi
with it
مِنۡ
min
from
عَذَابِ
adhabi
(the) punishment
يَوۡمِ
yawmi
(of the) Day
ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ
al-qiyamati
(of) the Resurrection
مَا
ma
not
تُقُبِّلَ
tuqubbila
will be accepted
مِنۡهُمۡۖ
min'hum
from them
وَلَهُمۡ
walahum
and for them
عَذَابٌ
adhabun
(is) a punishment
أَلِيمٞ
alimun
painful
٣٦

5:37
يُرِيدُونَ
yuriduna
They will wish
أَن
an
that
يَخۡرُجُواْ
yakhruju
they come out
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلنَّارِ
al-nari
the Fire
وَمَا
wama
but not
هُم
hum
they
بِخَٰرِجِينَ
bikharijina
will come out
مِنۡهَاۖ
min'ha
of it
وَلَهُمۡ
walahum
And for them
عَذَابٞ
adhabun
(is) a punishment
مُّقِيمٞ
muqimun
lasting
٣٧
5:38
وَٱلسَّارِقُ
wal-sariqu
And (for) the male thief
وَٱلسَّارِقَةُ
wal-sariqatu
and the female thief
فَٱقۡطَعُوٓاْ
fa-iq'ta'u
[then] cut off
أَيۡدِيَهُمَا
aydiyahuma
their hands
جَزَآءَۢ
jazaan
(as) a recompense
بِمَا
bima
for what
كَسَبَا
kasaba
they earned
نَكَٰلٗا
nakalan
(as) an exemplary (punishment)
مِّنَ
mina
from
ٱللَّهِۗ
al-lahi
Allah
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
And Allah
عَزِيزٌ
azizun
(is) All-Mighty
حَكِيمٞ
hakimun
All-Wise
٣٨
5:39
فَمَن
faman
But whoever
تَابَ
taba
repented
مِنۢ
min
from
بَعۡدِ
ba'di
after
ظُلۡمِهِۦ
zul'mihi
his wrongdoing
وَأَصۡلَحَ
wa-aslaha
and reforms
فَإِنَّ
fa-inna
then indeed
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
يَتُوبُ
yatubu
will turn in forgiveness
عَلَيۡهِۚ
alayhi
to him
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
غَفُورٞ
ghafurun
(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌ
rahimun
Most Merciful
٣٩
5:40
أَلَمۡ
alam
Do not
تَعۡلَمۡ
ta'lam
you know
أَنَّ
anna
that
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
لَهُۥ
lahu
to Him (belongs)
مُلۡكُ
mul'ku
(the) dominion
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
al-samawati
(of) the heavens
وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ
wal-ardi
and the earth
يُعَذِّبُ
yu'adhibu
He punishes
مَن
man
whom
يَشَآءُ
yashau
He wills
وَيَغۡفِرُ
wayaghfiru
and He forgives
لِمَن
liman
[to] whom
يَشَآءُۗ
yashau
He wills
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
And Allah
عَلَىٰ
ala
(is) on
كُلِّ
kulli
every
شَيۡءٖ
shayin
thing
قَدِيرٞ
qadirun
All-Powerful
٤٠
