4:148

۞لَّا

Laa-

(Does) not

يُحِبُّ

yuḥibbul

love

ٱللَّهُ

laahul

Allah

ٱلۡجَهۡرَ

jahra

the public mention

بِٱلسُّوٓءِ

bis-sooʹi

of [the] evil

مِنَ

minal

[of]

ٱلۡقَوۡلِ

q̣awli

[the] words

إِلَّا

ʹillaa

except

مَن

mañ

(by the one) who

ظُلِمَۚ

z̤̣ulim;

has been wronged

وَكَانَ

wa-kanal

And is

ٱللَّهُ

laahu

Allah

سَمِيعًا

Sameeʻan

All-Hearing

عَلِيمًا

ʻAleemaa.

All-Knowing

١٤٨

4:149

إِن

ʹIñ

تُبۡدُواْ

tubdoo

you disclose

خَيۡرًا

khayran

a good

أَوۡ

ʹaw

تُخۡفُوهُ

tukhfoohu

you conceal it

أَوۡ

ʹaw

تَعۡفُواْ

taʻfoo

pardon

عَن

ʻañ

[of]

سُوٓءٖ

soooʹiñ

an evil

فَإِنَّ

faʹinnal

then indeed

ٱللَّهَ

laaha

Allah

كَانَ

kaana

عَفُوّٗا

ʻAfuwwañ

Oft-Pardoning

قَدِيرًا

Q̣adeeraa.

All-Powerful

١٤٩

4:150

إِنَّ

ʹInnal

Indeed

ٱلَّذِينَ

laẓeena

those who

يَكۡفُرُونَ

yakfuroona

disbelieve

بِٱللَّهِ

billaahi

in Allah

وَرُسُلِهِۦ

wa-rusulihee

and His Messengers

وَيُرِيدُونَ

wa-yureedoona

and they wish

أَن

ʹañy

that

يُفَرِّقُواْ

yufarriq̣oo

they differentiate

بَيۡنَ

baynal

between

ٱللَّهِ

laahi

Allah

وَرُسُلِهِۦ

wa-Rusulihee

and His Messengers

وَيَقُولُونَ

wa-yaq̣ooloona

and they say

نُؤۡمِنُ

nuʹminu

We believe

بِبَعۡضٖ

bibaʻḍiñw

in some

وَنَكۡفُرُ

wanakfuru

and we disbelieve

بِبَعۡضٖ

bibaʻḍiñw

in others

وَيُرِيدُونَ

wayureedoona

And they wish

أَن

ʹañy

that

يَتَّخِذُواْ

yattakhizoo

they take

بَيۡنَ

bayna

between

ذَٰلِكَ

ẓaalika

that

سَبِيلًا

sabeelaa,

a way

١٥٠

4:151

أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ

ʹUlaaaʹika

Those

هُمُ

humul

they

ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ

kaafiroona

(are) the disbelievers

حَقّٗاۚ

ḥaq̣q̣aa;

truly

وَأَعۡتَدۡنَا

wa-ʹaʻtadnaa

And We have prepared

لِلۡكَٰفِرِينَ

lilkaafireena

for the disbelievers

عَذَابٗا

ʻaẓaabam

a punishment

مُّهِينٗا

muheenaa.

humiliating

١٥١

4:152

وَٱلَّذِينَ

Wallaẓeena

And those who

ءَامَنُواْ

ʹaamanoo

believe

بِٱللَّهِ

billaahi

in Allah

وَرُسُلِهِۦ

wa-Rusulihee

and His Messengers

وَلَمۡ

wa-lam

and not

يُفَرِّقُواْ

yufarriq̣oo

they differentiate

بَيۡنَ

bayna

between

أَحَدٖ

ʹaḥadim

(any) one

مِّنۡهُمۡ

minhum

of them

أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ

ʹulaaʹika

those

سَوۡفَ

sawfa

soon

يُؤۡتِيهِمۡ

yuʹteehim

He will give them

أُجُورَهُمۡۚ

ʹujoorahum:

their reward

وَكَانَ

wa-kaanal

And is

ٱللَّهُ

laahu

Allah

غَفُورٗا

G̣afoorar

Oft-Forgiving

رَّحِيمٗا

Raḥeemaa.

Most Merciful

١٥٢

4:153

يَسۡـَٔلُكَ

Yasʹaluka

Ask you

أَهۡلُ

ʹAhlul

(the) People

ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ

Kitaabi

(of) the Book

أَن

añ

that

تُنَزِّلَ

tunazzila

you bring down

عَلَيۡهِمۡ

ʻalayhim

to them

كِتَٰبٗا

Kitaabam

a book

مِّنَ

minas

from

ٱلسَّمَآءِۚ

samaaaʹi

the heaven

فَقَدۡ

faq̣ad

Then indeed

سَأَلُواْ

saʹaloo

they (had) asked

مُوسَىٰٓ

Moosaaa

Musa

أَكۡبَرَ

ʹakbara

greater

مِن

miñ

than

ذَٰلِكَ

ẓaalika

that

فَقَالُوٓاْ

faq̣aalooo

for they said

أَرِنَا

ʹarinal

Show us

ٱللَّهَ

laaha

Allah

جَهۡرَةٗ

jahratañ

manifestly

فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ

faʹakhaẓathumuṣ

so struck them

ٱلصَّٰعِقَةُ

ṣaaʻiq̣atu

the thunderbolt

بِظُلۡمِهِمۡۚ

biz̤̣ulmihim.

for their wrongdoing

ثُمَّ

S̤ummat

Then

ٱتَّخَذُواْ

takhaẓul

they took

ٱلۡعِجۡلَ

ʻijla

the calf (for worship)

مِنۢ

mim

from

بَعۡدِ

baʻdi

after

مَا

maa-

[what]

جَآءَتۡهُمُ

jaaaʹathumul

came to them

ٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتُ

Bayyinaatu

the clear proofs

فَعَفَوۡنَا

faʻafawnaa

then We forgave them

عَن

ʻañ

for

ذَٰلِكَۚ

ẓaalik:

that

وَءَاتَيۡنَا

wa-ʹaataynaa

And We gave

مُوسَىٰ

Moosaa

Musa

سُلۡطَٰنٗا

sulṭaanam

an authority

مُّبِينٗا

mubeena.

4:154

وَرَفَعۡنَا

Wa-Rafaʻnaa

And We raised

فَوۡقَهُمُ

fawq̣ahumuṭ

over them

ٱلطُّورَ

Ṭoora

the mount

بِمِيثَٰقِهِمۡ

bi-Mis̤aaq̣ihim

for their covenant

وَقُلۡنَا

wa-q̣ulnaa

and We said

لَهُمُ

lahumud

to them

ٱدۡخُلُواْ

khulul

Enter

ٱلۡبَابَ

abaaba

the gate

سُجَّدٗا

sujjadañw

prostrating

وَقُلۡنَا

waq̣ulnaa

And We said

لَهُمۡ

lahum

to them

لَا

laa-

(Do) not

تَعۡدُواْ

taʻdoo

transgress

فِي

fis

ٱلسَّبۡتِ

Sabti

the Sabbath

وَأَخَذۡنَا

wa-ʹakhaẓnaa

And We took

مِنۡهُم

minhum

from them

مِّيثَٰقًا

Mees̤aaq̣an

a covenant

غَلِيظٗا

g̣aleez̤̣aa.

solemn

4:155

فَبِمَا

Fabimaa

Then because of

نَقۡضِهِم

naq̣ḍihim

their breaking

مِّيثَٰقَهُمۡ

Mees̤aaq̣ahum

(of) their covenant

وَكُفۡرِهِم

wa-kufrihim̃

and their disbelief

بِـَٔايَٰتِ

biʹAayaatil

in (the) Signs

ٱللَّهِ

laahi

(of) Allah

وَقَتۡلِهِمُ

wa-q̣atlihimul

and their killing

ٱلۡأَنۢبِيَآءَ

ʹambiyaaaʹa

(of) the Prophets

بِغَيۡرِ

big̣ayri

without

حَقّٖ

ḥaq̣q̣iñw

any right

وَقَوۡلِهِمۡ

wa-q̣awlihim

and their saying

قُلُوبُنَا

q̣uloobunaa

Our hearts

غُلۡفُۢۚ

g̣ulf;

(are) wrapped

بَلۡ

bal

Nay

طَبَعَ

ṭabaʻal

(has) set a seal

ٱللَّهُ

laahu

Allah

عَلَيۡهَا

ʻalayhaa

on their (hearts)

بِكُفۡرِهِمۡ

bikufrihim

for their disbelief

فَلَا

falaa

so not

يُؤۡمِنُونَ

yuʹminoona

they believe

إِلَّا

ʹillaa

except

قَلِيلٗا

q̣aleelaa;

a few

١٥٥

4:156

وَبِكُفۡرِهِمۡ

Wa-bikufrihim

And for their disbelief

وَقَوۡلِهِمۡ

wa-q̣awlihim

and their saying

عَلَىٰ

ʻalaa

against

مَرۡيَمَ

Maryama

Maryam

بُهۡتَٰنًا

buh-taanan

a slander

عَظِيمٗا

ʻaz̤̣eemaa;

great

١٥٦

4:157

وَقَوۡلِهِمۡ

Wa-q̣awlihim

And for their saying

إِنَّا

ʹinnaa

Indeed we

قَتَلۡنَا

q̣atal-nal

killed

ٱلۡمَسِيحَ

Maseeḥa

the Messiah

عِيسَى

ʻEesab

Isa

ٱبۡنَ

son

مَرۡيَمَ

Maryama

(of) Maryam

رَسُولَ

Rasoolal

(the) Messenger

ٱللَّهِ

laah;―

(of) Allah

وَمَا

wa-maa

And not

قَتَلُوهُ

q̣ataloohu

they killed him

وَمَا

wa-maa

and not

صَلَبُوهُ

ṣalaboohu

they crucified him

وَلَٰكِن

wa-laakiñ

but

شُبِّهَ

shubbiha

it was made to appear (so)

لَهُمۡۚ

lahum;

to them

وَإِنَّ

wa-ʹinnal

And indeed

ٱلَّذِينَ

laẓeenakh

those who

ٱخۡتَلَفُواْ

talafoo

differ

فِيهِ

feehi

in it

لَفِي

lafee

(are) surely in

شَكّٖ

shakkim

doubt

مِّنۡهُۚ

minh:

about it

مَا

maa-

Not

لَهُم

lahum̃

for them

بِهِۦ

bihee

about it

مِنۡ

min

[of]

عِلۡمٍ

ʻilmin

(any) knowledge

إِلَّا

ʹillat

except

ٱتِّبَاعَ

tibaaʻaz̤̣

(the) following

ٱلظَّنِّۚ

z̤̣ann;

(of) assumption

وَمَا

wa-maa

And not

قَتَلُوهُ

q̣ataloohu

they killed him

يَقِينَۢا

yaq̣eenaa;―

certainly

١٥٧

4:158

بَل

Bar

Nay

رَّفَعَهُ

rafaʻahul

he was raised

ٱللَّهُ

laahu

(by) Allah

إِلَيۡهِۚ

ʹilayh:

towards Him

وَكَانَ

wa-kaanal

And is

ٱللَّهُ

laahu

Allah

عَزِيزًا

ʹAzeezan

All-Mighty

حَكِيمٗا

Ḥakeemaa;―

All-Wise

١٥٨

4:159

وَإِن

Wa-ʹim

And (there is) not

مِّنۡ

min

from

أَهۡلِ

ʹAhlil

(the) People

ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ

Kitaabi

(of) the Book

إِلَّا

ʹillaa

but

لَيُؤۡمِنَنَّ

layuʹminanna

surely he believes

بِهِۦ

bihee

in him

قَبۡلَ

q̣abla

before

مَوۡتِهِۦۖ

mawtih;

his death

وَيَوۡمَ

wa-Yawmal

And (on the) Day

ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ

Q̣iyaamati

(of) the Resurrection

يَكُونُ

yakoonu

he will be

عَلَيۡهِمۡ

ʻalayhim

against them

شَهِيدٗا

shaheedaa;―

a witness

١٥٩

4:160

فَبِظُلۡمٖ

Fabiz̤̣ulmim

Then for (the) wrongdoing

مِّنَ

minal

ٱلَّذِينَ

laẓeena

those who

هَادُواْ

haadoo

were Jews

حَرَّمۡنَا

ḥarramnaa

We made unlawful

عَلَيۡهِمۡ

ʻalayhim

for them

طَيِّبَٰتٍ

ṭayyibaatin

good things

أُحِلَّتۡ

ʹuḥillat

which had been lawful

لَهُمۡ

lahum

for them

وَبِصَدِّهِمۡ

wa-biṣaddihim

and for their hindering

عَن

ʻañ

from

سَبِيلِ

Sabeelil

(the) way

ٱللَّهِ

laahi

(of) Allah

كَثِيرٗا

kas̤eeraa;―

many

١٦٠

4:161

وَأَخۡذِهِمُ

Wa-ʹakhẓihimur

And for their taking

ٱلرِّبَوٰاْ

Ribaa

(of) [the] usury

وَقَدۡ

wa-q̣ad

while certainly

نُهُواْ

nuhoo

they were forbidden

عَنۡهُ

ʻanhu

from it

وَأَكۡلِهِمۡ

wa-ʹaklihim

and (for) their consuming

أَمۡوَٰلَ

ʹamwaalan

wealth

ٱلنَّاسِ

naasi

(of) the people

بِٱلۡبَٰطِلِۚ

bilbaaṭil;―

wrongfully

وَأَعۡتَدۡنَا

waʹaʻtadnaa

And We have prepared

لِلۡكَٰفِرِينَ

lilkaafireena

for the disbelievers

مِنۡهُمۡ

minhum

among them

عَذَابًا

ʻaẓaaban

a punishment

أَلِيمٗا

ʹaleemaa.

painful

١٦١

4:162

لَّٰكِنِ

Laakinir

But

ٱلرَّٰسِخُونَ

Raasikhoona

the ones who are firm

فِي

fil

ٱلۡعِلۡمِ

ʻilmi

the knowledge

مِنۡهُمۡ

minhum

among them

وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ

wal-Muʹminoona

and the believers

يُؤۡمِنُونَ

yuʹminoona

believe

بِمَآ

bimaaa

in what

أُنزِلَ

ʹuñzila

(is) revealed

إِلَيۡكَ

ʹilayka

to you

وَمَآ

wa-maaa

and what

أُنزِلَ

ʹuñzila

was revealed

مِن

miñ

from

قَبۡلِكَۚ

q̣ablika

before you

وَٱلۡمُقِيمِينَ

walmuq̣eemeenaṣ

And the ones who establish

ٱلصَّلَوٰةَۚ

Ṣalaata

the prayer

وَٱلۡمُؤۡتُونَ

Walmuʹtoonaz

and the ones who give

ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ

Zakaata

the zakah

وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ

wal-Muʹminoona

and the ones who believe

بِٱللَّهِ

billaahi

in Allah

وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ

wal-Yawmil

and the Day

ٱلۡأٓخِرِ

ʹAakhir:

the Last

أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ

ʹulaaaʹika

those

سَنُؤۡتِيهِمۡ

sanuʹteehim

We will give them

أَجۡرًا

ʹajran

a reward

عَظِيمًا

ʻa-Z̤̣eemaa.

great
