One of the 240 subdivisions of the Quran (quarter of a Hizb)

4:24
۞وَٱلۡمُحۡصَنَٰتُ
wal-muh'sanatu
And (prohibited are) the ones who are married
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلنِّسَآءِ
al-nisai
the women
إِلَّا
illa
except
مَا
ma
whom
مَلَكَتۡ
malakat
you possess
أَيۡمَٰنُكُمۡۖ
aymanukum
rightfully
كِتَٰبَ
kitaba
Decree
ٱللَّهِ
al-lahi
(of) Allah
عَلَيۡكُمۡۚ
alaykum
upon you
وَأُحِلَّ
wa-uhilla
And are lawful
لَكُم
lakum
to you
مَّا
ma
what
وَرَآءَ
waraa
(is) beyond
ذَٰلِكُمۡ
dhalikum
that
أَن
an
that
تَبۡتَغُواْ
tabtaghu
you seek
بِأَمۡوَٰلِكُم
bi-amwalikum
with your wealth
مُّحۡصِنِينَ
muh'sinina
desiring to be chaste
غَيۡرَ
ghayra
not
مُسَٰفِحِينَۚ
musafihina
(to be) lustful
فَمَا
fama
So what
ٱسۡتَمۡتَعۡتُم
is'tamta'tum
you benefit[ed]
بِهِۦ
bihi
of it
مِنۡهُنَّ
min'hunna
from them
فَـَٔاتُوهُنَّ
faatuhunna
so you give them
أُجُورَهُنَّ
ujurahunna
their bridal due
فَرِيضَةٗۚ
faridatan
(as) an obligation
وَلَا
wala
And (there is) no
جُنَاحَ
junaha
sin
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
alaykum
on you
فِيمَا
fima
concerning what
تَرَٰضَيۡتُم
taradaytum
you mutually agree
بِهِۦ
bihi
of it
مِنۢ
min
from
بَعۡدِ
ba'di
beyond
ٱلۡفَرِيضَةِۚ
al-faridati
the obligation
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
كَانَ
kana
is
عَلِيمًا
aliman
All-Knowing
حَكِيمٗا
hakiman
All-Wise
٢٤
4:25
وَمَن
waman
And whoever
لَّمۡ
lam
(is) not
يَسۡتَطِعۡ
yastati'
able to
مِنكُمۡ
minkum
among you
طَوۡلًا
tawlan
afford
أَن
an
to
يَنكِحَ
yankiha
marry
ٱلۡمُحۡصَنَٰتِ
al-muh'sanati
the free chaste
ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِ
al-mu'minati
[the] believing women
فَمِن
famin
then (marry) from
مَّا
ma
what
مَلَكَتۡ
malakat
possess[ed]
أَيۡمَٰنُكُم
aymanukum
your right hands
مِّن
min
of
فَتَيَٰتِكُمُ
fatayatikumu
your slave girls
ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِۚ
al-mu'minati
(of) the believers
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
And Allah
أَعۡلَمُ
a'lamu
knows best
بِإِيمَٰنِكُمۚ
biimanikum
about your faith
بَعۡضُكُم
ba'dukum
You
مِّنۢ
min
(are) from
بَعۡضٖۚ
ba'din
(one) another
فَٱنكِحُوهُنَّ
fa-inkihuhunna
So marry them
بِإِذۡنِ
bi-idh'ni
with (the) permission
أَهۡلِهِنَّ
ahlihinna
(of) their family
وَءَاتُوهُنَّ
waatuhunna
and give them
أُجُورَهُنَّ
ujurahunna
their bridal due
بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ
bil-ma'rufi
in a fair manner
مُحۡصَنَٰتٍ
muh'sanatin
(They should be) chaste
غَيۡرَ
ghayra
not
مُسَٰفِحَٰتٖ
musafihatin
those who commit immorality
وَلَا
wala
and not
مُتَّخِذَٰتِ
muttakhidhati
those who take
أَخۡدَانٖۚ
akhdanin
secret lovers
فَإِذَآ
fa-idha
Then when
أُحۡصِنَّ
uh'sinna
they are married
فَإِنۡ
fa-in
and if
أَتَيۡنَ
atayna
they commit
بِفَٰحِشَةٖ
bifahishatin
adultery
فَعَلَيۡهِنَّ
fa'alayhinna
then for them
نِصۡفُ
nis'fu
(is) half
مَا
ma
(of) what
عَلَى
ala
(is) on
ٱلۡمُحۡصَنَٰتِ
al-muh'sanati
the free chaste women
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلۡعَذَابِۚ
al-'adhabi
the punishment
ذَٰلِكَ
dhalika
That
لِمَنۡ
liman
(is) for whoever
خَشِيَ
khashiya
fears
ٱلۡعَنَتَ
al-'anata
committing sin
مِنكُمۡۚ
minkum
among you
وَأَن
wa-an
and that
تَصۡبِرُواْ
tasbiru
you be patient
خَيۡرٞ
khayrun
(is) better
لَّكُمۡۗ
lakum
for you
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
And Allah
غَفُورٞ
ghafurun
(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٞ
rahimun
Most Merciful
٢٥
4:26
يُرِيدُ
yuridu
Wishes
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah
لِيُبَيِّنَ
liyubayyina
to make clear
لَكُمۡ
lakum
to you
وَيَهۡدِيَكُمۡ
wayahdiyakum
and to guide you
سُنَنَ
sunana
(to) ways
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
(of) those
مِن
min
from
قَبۡلِكُمۡ
qablikum
before you
وَيَتُوبَ
wayatuba
and (to) accept repentance
عَلَيۡكُمۡۗ
alaykum
from you
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
And Allah
عَلِيمٌ
alimun
(is) All-Knowing
حَكِيمٞ
hakimun
All-Wise

Page 83
4:27
وَٱللَّهُ
wal-lahu
And Allah
يُرِيدُ
yuridu
wishes
أَن
an
to
يَتُوبَ
yatuba
accept repentance
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
alaykum
from you
وَيُرِيدُ
wayuridu
but wish
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
those who
يَتَّبِعُونَ
yattabi'una
follow
ٱلشَّهَوَٰتِ
al-shahawati
the passions
أَن
an
that
تَمِيلُواْ
tamilu
you deviate
مَيۡلًا
maylan
(into) a deviation
عَظِيمٗا
aziman
great
٢٧
4:28
يُرِيدُ
yuridu
Wishes
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah
أَن
an
to
يُخَفِّفَ
yukhaffifa
lighten
عَنكُمۡۚ
ankum
for you
وَخُلِقَ
wakhuliqa
and was created
ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ
al-insanu
the mankind
ضَعِيفٗا
da'ifan
weak
٢٨
4:29
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
yaayyuha
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
who
ءَامَنُواْ
amanu
believe[d]
لَا
la
(Do) not
تَأۡكُلُوٓاْ
takulu
eat
أَمۡوَٰلَكُم
amwalakum
your wealth
بَيۡنَكُم
baynakum
between yourselves
بِٱلۡبَٰطِلِ
bil-batili
unjustly
إِلَّآ
illa
But
أَن
an
that
تَكُونَ
takuna
(there) be
تِجَٰرَةً
tijaratan
business
عَن
an
on
تَرَاضٖ
taradin
mutual consent
مِّنكُمۡۚ
minkum
among you
وَلَا
wala
And (do) not
تَقۡتُلُوٓاْ
taqtulu
kill
أَنفُسَكُمۡۚ
anfusakum
yourselves
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
كَانَ
kana
is
بِكُمۡ
bikum
to you
رَحِيمٗا
rahiman
Most Merciful
٢٩
4:30
وَمَن
waman
And whoever
يَفۡعَلۡ
yaf 'al
does
ذَٰلِكَ
dhalika
that
عُدۡوَٰنٗا
ud'wanan
(in) aggression
وَظُلۡمٗا
wazul'man
and injustice
فَسَوۡفَ
fasawfa
then soon
نُصۡلِيهِ
nus'lihi
We (will) cast him
نَارٗاۚ
naran
(into) a Fire
وَكَانَ
wakana
And is
ذَٰلِكَ
dhalika
that
عَلَى
ala
for
ٱللَّهِ
al-lahi
Allah
يَسِيرًا
yasiran
easy
٣٠
4:31
إِن
in
If
تَجۡتَنِبُواْ
tajtanibu
you avoid
كَبَآئِرَ
kabaira
great (sins)
مَا
ma
(of) what
تُنۡهَوۡنَ
tun'hawna
you are forbidden
عَنۡهُ
anhu
from [it]
نُكَفِّرۡ
nukaffir
We will remove
عَنكُمۡ
ankum
from you
سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمۡ
sayyiatikum
your evil deeds
وَنُدۡخِلۡكُم
wanud'khil'kum
and We will admit you
مُّدۡخَلٗا
mud'khalan
(to) an entrance
كَرِيمٗا
kariman
noble
٣١
4:32
وَلَا
wala
And (do) not
تَتَمَنَّوۡاْ
tatamannaw
covet
مَا
ma
what
فَضَّلَ
faddala
(has) bestowed
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah
بِهِۦ
bihi
[with it]
بَعۡضَكُمۡ
ba'dakum
some of you
عَلَىٰ
ala
over
بَعۡضٖۚ
ba'din
others
لِّلرِّجَالِ
lilrrijali
For men
نَصِيبٞ
nasibun
(is) a share
مِّمَّا
mimma
of what
ٱكۡتَسَبُواْۖ
ik'tasabu
they earned
وَلِلنِّسَآءِ
walilnnisai
and for women
نَصِيبٞ
nasibun
(is) a share
مِّمَّا
mimma
of what
ٱكۡتَسَبۡنَۚ
ik'tasabna
they earned
وَسۡـَٔلُواْ
wasalu
And ask
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
مِن
min
of
فَضۡلِهِۦٓۚ
fadlihi
His bounty
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
كَانَ
kana
is
بِكُلِّ
bikulli
of every
شَيۡءٍ
shayin
thing
عَلِيمٗا
aliman
All-Knower
٣٢
4:33
وَلِكُلّٖ
walikullin
And for all
جَعَلۡنَا
ja'alna
We (have) made
مَوَٰلِيَ
mawaliya
heirs
مِمَّا
mimma
of what
تَرَكَ
taraka
(is) left
ٱلۡوَٰلِدَانِ
al-walidani
(by) the parents
وَٱلۡأَقۡرَبُونَۚ
wal-aqrabuna
and the relatives
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhina
And those whom
عَقَدَتۡ
aqadat
pledged
أَيۡمَٰنُكُمۡ
aymanukum
your right hands
فَـَٔاتُوهُمۡ
faatuhum
then give them
نَصِيبَهُمۡۚ
nasibahum
their share
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
كَانَ
kana
is
عَلَىٰ
ala
over
كُلِّ
kulli
every
شَيۡءٖ
shayin
thing
شَهِيدًا
shahidan
a Witness
٣٣
Page 84
4:34
ٱلرِّجَالُ
al-rijalu
[The] men
قَوَّٰمُونَ
qawwamuna
(are) protectors
عَلَى
ala
of
ٱلنِّسَآءِ
al-nisai
the women
بِمَا
bima
because
فَضَّلَ
faddala
(has) bestowed
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah
بَعۡضَهُمۡ
ba'dahum
some of them
عَلَىٰ
ala
over
بَعۡضٖ
ba'din
others
وَبِمَآ
wabima
and because
أَنفَقُواْ
anfaqu
they spend
مِنۡ
min
from
أَمۡوَٰلِهِمۡۚ
amwalihim
their wealth
فَٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتُ
fal-salihatu
So the righteous women
قَٰنِتَٰتٌ
qanitatun
(are) obedient
حَٰفِظَٰتٞ
hafizatun
guarding
لِّلۡغَيۡبِ
lil'ghaybi
in the unseen
بِمَا
bima
that which
حَفِظَ
hafiza
(orders) them to guard
ٱللَّهُۚ
al-lahu
(by) Allah
وَٱلَّٰتِي
wa-allati
And those (from) whom
تَخَافُونَ
takhafuna
you fear
نُشُوزَهُنَّ
nushuzahunna
their ill-conduct
فَعِظُوهُنَّ
fa'izuhunna
then advise them
وَٱهۡجُرُوهُنَّ
wa-uh'juruhunna
and forsake them
فِي
fi
in
ٱلۡمَضَاجِعِ
al-madaji'i
the bed
وَٱضۡرِبُوهُنَّۖ
wa-id'ribuhunna
and [finally] strike them
فَإِنۡ
fa-in
Then if
أَطَعۡنَكُمۡ
ata'nakum
they obey you
فَلَا
fala
then (do) not
تَبۡغُواْ
tabghu
seek
عَلَيۡهِنَّ
alayhinna
against them
سَبِيلًاۗ
sabilan
a way
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
كَانَ
kana
is
عَلِيّٗا
aliyyan
Most High
كَبِيرٗا
kabiran
Most Great
٣٤
4:35
وَإِنۡ
wa-in
And if
خِفۡتُمۡ
khif'tum
you fear
شِقَاقَ
shiqaqa
a dissension
بَيۡنِهِمَا
baynihima
between (the) two of them
فَٱبۡعَثُواْ
fa-ib'athu
then send
حَكَمٗا
hakaman
an arbitrator
مِّنۡ
min
from
أَهۡلِهِۦ
ahlihi
his family
وَحَكَمٗا
wahakaman
and an arbitrator
مِّنۡ
min
from
أَهۡلِهَآ
ahliha
her family
إِن
in
If
يُرِيدَآ
yurida
they both wish
إِصۡلَٰحٗا
is'lahan
reconciliation
يُوَفِّقِ
yuwaffiqi
will cause reconciliation
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah
بَيۡنَهُمَآۗ
baynahuma
between both of them
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
كَانَ
kana
is
عَلِيمًا
aliman
All-Knower
خَبِيرٗا
khabiran
All-Aware
٣٥
