One of the 240 subdivisions of the Quran (quarter of a Hizb)

42:27

۞وَلَوۡ

Wa-law

And if

بَسَطَ

basaṭal

Allah extends

ٱللَّهُ

laahur

Allah extends

ٱلرِّزۡقَ

Rizq̣a

the provision

لِعِبَادِهِۦ

liʻIbaadihee

for His slaves

لَبَغَوۡاْ

labag̣aw

surely they would rebel

فِي

fil

ٱلۡأَرۡضِ

ʹarḍi

the earth

وَلَٰكِن

walaakiñy

but

يُنَزِّلُ

yunazzilu

He sends down

بِقَدَرٖ

biq̣adarim

in (due) measure

مَّا

maa

what

يَشَآءُۚ

yashaaaʹ.

He wills

إِنَّهُۥ

ʹInnahoo

Indeed He

بِعِبَادِهِۦ

biʻIbaadihee

of His slaves

خَبِيرُۢ

Khabeerum

(is) All-Aware

بَصِيرٞ

Baṣeer.

All-Seer

٢٧

42:28

وَهُوَ

Wa-Huwal

And He

ٱلَّذِي

laẓee

(is) the One Who

يُنَزِّلُ

yunazzilul

sends down

ٱلۡغَيۡثَ

g̣ays̤a

the rain

مِنۢ

mim

after

بَعۡدِ

baʻdi

after

مَا

maa-

[what]

قَنَطُواْ

q̣anaṭoo

they have despaired

وَيَنشُرُ

wa-yañshuru

and spreads

رَحۡمَتَهُۥۚ

Raḥmatah.

His mercy

وَهُوَ

Wa-Huwal

And He

ٱلۡوَلِيُّ

Waliyyul

(is) the Protector

ٱلۡحَمِيدُ

Ḥameed.

the Praiseworthy

٢٨

42:29

وَمِنۡ

Wa-min

And among

ءَايَٰتِهِۦ

ʹAayaatihee

His Signs

خَلۡقُ

khalq̣us

(is the) creation

ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ

samaawaati

(of) the heavens

وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ

wal-ʹarḍi

and the earth

وَمَا

wa-maa

and whatever

بَثَّ

bas̤s̤a

He has dispersed

فِيهِمَا

feehimaa

in both of them

مِن

miñ

دَآبَّةٖۚ

daaabbah:

(the) creatures

وَهُوَ

wa-Huwa

And He

عَلَىٰ

ʻalaa

(is) over

جَمۡعِهِمۡ

jamʻihim

their gathering

إِذَا

ʹiẓaa

when

يَشَآءُ

yashaaaʹu

He wills

قَدِيرٞ

Q̣adeer.

All-Powerful

٢٩

42:30

وَمَآ

Wa-maaa

And whatever

أَصَٰبَكُم

ʹaṣaabakum

befalls you

مِّن

mim

مُّصِيبَةٖ

muṣeebatiñ

(the) misfortune

فَبِمَا

fabimaa

(is because) of what

كَسَبَتۡ

kasabat

have earned

أَيۡدِيكُمۡ

ʹaydeekum

your hands

وَيَعۡفُواْ

wa-yaʻfoo

But He pardons

عَن

ʻañ

[from]

كَثِيرٖ

kas̤eer.

much

٣٠

42:31

وَمَآ

Wa-maaa

And not

أَنتُم

ʹañtum̃

you

بِمُعۡجِزِينَ

bimuʻjizeena

(can) escape

فِي

fil

ٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ

ʹarḍi

the earth

وَمَا

wa-maa

and not

لَكُم

lakum

for you

مِّن

miñ

besides

دُونِ

doonil

besides

ٱللَّهِ

laahi

Allah

مِن

miñw

any

وَلِيّٖ

waliyyiñw

protector

وَلَا

wa-laa

and not

نَصِيرٖ

naṣeer.

any helper

42:32

وَمِنۡ

Wa-min

And among

ءَايَٰتِهِ

ʹAayaatihil

His Signs

ٱلۡجَوَارِ

jawaari

(are) the ships

فِي

fil

ٱلۡبَحۡرِ

baḥri

the sea

كَٱلۡأَعۡلَٰمِ

kal-ʹaʻlaam.

like [the] mountains

٣٢

42:33

إِن

ʹIñy

يَشَأۡ

yashaʹ

He wills

يُسۡكِنِ

yuskinir

He can cause the wind to become still

ٱلرِّيحَ

reeḥa

He can cause the wind to become still

فَيَظۡلَلۡنَ

fayaz̤̣lalna

then they would remain

رَوَاكِدَ

rawaakida

motionless

عَلَىٰ

ʻalaa

ظَهۡرِهِۦٓۚ

z̤̣ahrih.

its back

إِنَّ

ʹInna

Indeed

فِي

fee

ذَٰلِكَ

ẓaalika

that

لَأٓيَٰتٖ

laʹAayaatil

surely (are) Signs

لِّكُلِّ

likulli

for everyone

صَبَّارٖ

ṣabbariñ

patient

شَكُورٍ

shakoor.

(and) grateful

٣٣

42:34

أَوۡ

ʹAw

يُوبِقۡهُنَّ

yoobiq̣hunna

He could destroy them

بِمَا

bimaa

for what

كَسَبُواْ

kasaboo

they have earned

وَيَعۡفُ

wa-yaʻfu

but He pardons

عَن

ʻañ

[from]

كَثِيرٖ

kas̤eer.

much

٣٤

42:35

وَيَعۡلَمَ

Wa-yaʻlamal

And may know

ٱلَّذِينَ

laẓeena

those who

يُجَٰدِلُونَ

yujaadiloona

dispute

فِيٓ

feee

concerning

ءَايَٰتِنَا

Aayaatinaa,

Our Signs

مَا

maa-ʹ

(that) not

لَهُم

lahum

for them

مِّن

mim

any

مَّحِيصٖ

maḥeeṣ.

place of refuge

٣٥

42:36

فَمَآ

Famaaa

So whatever

أُوتِيتُم

ʹooteetum

you are given

مِّن

miñ

شَيۡءٖ

shayʹiñ

a thing

فَمَتَٰعُ

famataaʻul

(is) but a passing enjoyment

ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ

ḥayaatid

(for) the life

ٱلدُّنۡيَاۚ

dunyaa:

(of) the world

وَمَا

wa-maa

But what

عِندَ

ʻiñdal

(is) with

ٱللَّهِ

laahi

Allah

خَيۡرٞ

khayruñw

(is) better

وَأَبۡقَىٰ

waʹabq̣aa

and more lasting

لِلَّذِينَ

lillaẓeena

for those who

ءَامَنُواْ

ʹaamanoo

believe

وَعَلَىٰ

wa-ʻalaa

and upon

رَبِّهِمۡ

Rabbihim

their Lord

يَتَوَكَّلُونَ

yatawakkaloon;

put (their) trust

٣٦

42:37

وَٱلَّذِينَ

Wallaẓeena

And those who

يَجۡتَنِبُونَ

yajtaniboona

avoid

كَبَٰٓئِرَ

kabaaaʹiral

(the) greater

ٱلۡإِثۡمِ

ʹis̤mi

sins

وَٱلۡفَوَٰحِشَ

wal-fawaaḥisha

and the immoralities

وَإِذَا

waʹiẓaa

and when

مَا

maa-

and when

غَضِبُواْ

g̣aḍiboo

they are angry

هُمۡ

hum

they

يَغۡفِرُونَ

yag̣firoon;

forgive

٣٧

42:38

وَٱلَّذِينَ

Wallaẓeenas

And those who

ٱسۡتَجَابُواْ

tajaaboo

respond

لِرَبِّهِمۡ

li-Rabbihim

to their Lord

وَأَقَامُواْ

wa-ʹaq̣aamuṣ

and establish

ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ

Ṣalaah;

prayer

وَأَمۡرُهُمۡ

wa-ʹamruhum

and their affairs

شُورَىٰ

SHOORAA

(are conducted by) consultation

بَيۡنَهُمۡ

baynahum;

among them

وَمِمَّا

wa-mimmaa

and from what

رَزَقۡنَٰهُمۡ

razaq̣naahum

We have provided them

يُنفِقُونَ

yuñfiq̣oon;

they spend

٣٨

42:39

وَٱلَّذِينَ

Wallaẓeena

And those who

إِذَآ

ʹiẓaaa

when

أَصَابَهُمُ

ʹaṣaabahumul

strikes them

ٱلۡبَغۡيُ

bag̣yu

tyranny

هُمۡ

hum

they

يَنتَصِرُونَ

yañtaṣiroon.

defend themselves

٣٩

42:40

وَجَزَٰٓؤُاْ

Wa-jazaaaʹu

(The) recompense

سَيِّئَةٖ

sayyiʹatiñ

(of) an evil

سَيِّئَةٞ

sayyiʹatum

(is) an evil

مِّثۡلُهَاۖ

mis̤luhaa:

like it

فَمَنۡ

faman

But whoever

عَفَا

ʻafaa

pardons

وَأَصۡلَحَ

wa-ʹaṣlaḥa

and makes reconciliation

فَأَجۡرُهُۥ

faʹajruhoo

then his reward

عَلَى

ʻalal

(is) on

ٱللَّهِۚ

laah:

Allah

إِنَّهُۥ

ʹinnahoo

Indeed He

لَا

laa-

(does) not

يُحِبُّ

yuḥibbuz̤̣

ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

z̤̣aalimeen.

the wrongdoers

٤٠

42:41

وَلَمَنِ

Wa-lamaniñ

And surely whosoever

ٱنتَصَرَ

taṣara

defends himself

بَعۡدَ

baʻda

after

ظُلۡمِهِۦ

z̤̣ulmihee

he has been wronged

فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ

faʹulaaaʹika

then those

مَا

maa-

not

عَلَيۡهِم

ʻalayhim

(is) against them

مِّن

miñ

any

سَبِيلٍ

sabeel.

way

٤١

42:42

إِنَّمَا

ʹInnamas

Only

ٱلسَّبِيلُ

sabeelu

the way

عَلَى

ʻalal

against

ٱلَّذِينَ

laẓeena

those who

يَظۡلِمُونَ

yaz̤̣limoonan

oppress

ٱلنَّاسَ

naasa

the people

وَيَبۡغُونَ

wa-yabg̣oona

and rebel

فِي

fil

ٱلۡأَرۡضِ

ʹarḍi

the earth

بِغَيۡرِ

big̣ayril

without

ٱلۡحَقِّۚ

ḥaq̣q̣:

right

أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ

ʹulaaaʹika

Those

لَهُمۡ

lahum

for them

عَذَابٌ

ʻAẓaabun

(is) a punishment

أَلِيمٞ

ʹaleem.

painful

٤٢

42:43

وَلَمَن

Wa-lamañ

And whoever

صَبَرَ

ṣabara

(is) patient

وَغَفَرَ

wa-g̣afara

and forgives

إِنَّ

ʹinna

indeed

ذَٰلِكَ

ẓaalika

that

لَمِنۡ

lamin

(is) surely of

عَزۡمِ

ʻazmil

matters of determination

ٱلۡأُمُورِ

ʹumoor.

matters of determination

٤٣

42:44

وَمَن

Wa-mañy

And whoever

يُضۡلِلِ

yuḍli

Allah lets go astray

ٱللَّهُ

lillaahu

Allah lets go astray

فَمَا

famaa

then not

لَهُۥ

lahoo

for him

مِن

miñw

any

وَلِيّٖ

waliyyim

protector

مِّنۢ

mim

after Him

بَعۡدِهِۦۗ

baʻdih.

after Him

وَتَرَى

Wa-taraz̤̣

And you will see

ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

z̤̣aalimeena

the wrongdoers

لَمَّا

lammaa

when

رَأَوُاْ

raʹawul

they see

ٱلۡعَذَابَ

ʻaẓaaba

the punishment

يَقُولُونَ

yaq̣ooloona

saying

هَلۡ

hal

إِلَىٰ

ʹilaa

(there) for

مَرَدّٖ

maraddim

return

مِّن

miñ

any

سَبِيلٖ

sabeel?

way

٤٤

Page 488

42:45

وَتَرَىٰهُمۡ

Wa-taraahum

And you will see them

يُعۡرَضُونَ

yaʻraḍoona

being exposed

عَلَيۡهَا

ʻalayhaa

to it

خَٰشِعِينَ

khaashiʻeena

humbled

مِنَ

minaẓ

ٱلذُّلِّ

ẓulli

disgrace

يَنظُرُونَ

yañz̤̣uroona

looking

مِن

miñ

with

طَرۡفٍ

ṭarfin

a glance

خَفِيّٖۗ

khafiyy.

stealthy

وَقَالَ

Wa-q̣aalal

And will say

ٱلَّذِينَ

laẓeena

those who

ءَامَنُوٓاْ

ʹaamanooo

believed

إِنَّ

ʹinnal

Indeed

ٱلۡخَٰسِرِينَ

khaasireenal

the losers

ٱلَّذِينَ

laẓeena

(are) those who

خَسِرُوٓاْ

khasirooo

lost

أَنفُسَهُمۡ

ʹañfusahum

themselves

وَأَهۡلِيهِمۡ

wa-ʹahleehim

and their families

يَوۡمَ

Yawmal

(on the) Day

ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِۗ

Q̣iyaamah.

(of) the Resurrection

أَلَآ

ʹAlaaa

Unquestionably

إِنَّ

ʹinnaz̤̣

Indeed

ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

z̤̣aalimeena

the wrongdoers

فِي

fee

(are) in

عَذَابٖ

ʻAẓaabim

a punishment

مُّقِيمٖ

muq̣eem!

lasting

٤٥

42:46

وَمَا

Wa-maa

And not

كَانَ

kaana

will be

لَهُم

lahum

for them

مِّنۡ

min

any

أَوۡلِيَآءَ

ʹawliyaaaʹa

protector

يَنصُرُونَهُم

yañṣuroonahum

(who) will help them

مِّن

miñ

besides

دُونِ

doonil

besides

ٱللَّهِۗ

laah.

Allah

وَمَن

Wa-mañy

And whom

يُضۡلِلِ

yuḍlilil

Allah lets go astray

ٱللَّهُ

laahu

Allah lets go astray

فَمَا

famaa

then not

لَهُۥ

lahoo

for him

مِن

miñ

any

سَبِيلٍ

sabeel.

way

٤٦

42:47

ٱسۡتَجِيبُواْ

ʹIstajeeboo

Respond

لِرَبِّكُم

li-Rabbikum

to your Lord

مِّن

miñ

before

قَبۡلِ

q̣abli

before

أَن

ʹañy

[that]

يَأۡتِيَ

yaʹtiya

comes

يَوۡمٞ

Yawmul

a Day

لَّا

laa

(there is) no

مَرَدَّ

maradda

averting

لَهُۥ

lahoo

for it

مِنَ

min

from

ٱللَّهِۚ

allaah.

Allah

مَا

maa-

Not

لَكُم

lakum

(is) for you

مِّن

mim

any

مَّلۡجَإٖ

maljaʹiñy

refuge

يَوۡمَئِذٖ

Yawmaʹiẓiñw

(on) that Day

وَمَا

Wa-Maa

and not

لَكُم

lakum

for you

مِّن

min

any

نَّكِيرٖ

nakeer.

denial

٤٧

42:48

فَإِنۡ

Faʹin

Then if

أَعۡرَضُواْ

ʹaʻraḍoo

they turn away

فَمَآ

famaaa

then not

أَرۡسَلۡنَٰكَ

ʹarsalnaaka

We have sent you

عَلَيۡهِمۡ

ʻalayhim

over them

حَفِيظًاۖ

ḥafeez̤̣aa.

(as) a guardian

إِنۡ

ʹIn

Not

عَلَيۡكَ

ʻalayka

(is) on you

إِلَّا

ʹillal

except

ٱلۡبَلَٰغُۗ

balaag̣.

the conveyance

وَإِنَّآ

Wa-ʹinnaaa

And indeed

إِذَآ

ʹiẓaaa

when

أَذَقۡنَا

ʹaẓaq̣nal

We cause to taste

ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ

ʹiñsaana

[the] man

مِنَّا

minnaa

from Us

رَحۡمَةٗ

Raḥmatañ

Mercy

فَرِحَ

fariḥa

he rejoices

بِهَاۖ

bihaa:

in it

وَإِن

wa-ʹiñ

But if

تُصِبۡهُمۡ

tuṣibhum

befalls them

سَيِّئَةُۢ

sayyiʹatum

evil

بِمَا

bimaa

for what

قَدَّمَتۡ

q̣addamat

have sent forth

أَيۡدِيهِمۡ

ʹaydeehim

their hands

فَإِنَّ

faʹinnal

then indeed

ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ

ʹiñsaana

[the] man

كَفُورٞ

kafoor!

(is) ungrateful

٤٨

42:49

لِّلَّهِ

Lillaahi

To Allah

مُلۡكُ

mulkus

(belongs the) dominion

ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ

samaawaati

(of) the heavens

وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ

wal-ʹarḍ.

and the earth

يَخۡلُقُ

Yakhluq̣u

He creates

مَا

maa-

what

يَشَآءُۚ

yashaaaʹ.

He wills

يَهَبُ

Yahabu

He grants

لِمَن

limañy

to whom

يَشَآءُ

yashaaaʹu

He wills

إِنَٰثٗا

ʹinaas̤añw

females

وَيَهَبُ

wa-yahabu

and He grants

لِمَن

limañy

to whom

يَشَآءُ

yashaaaʹuẓ

He wills

ٱلذُّكُورَ

ẓukoor,

[the] males

٤٩

42:50

أَوۡ

ʹAw

يُزَوِّجُهُمۡ

yuzawwijuhum

He grants them

ذُكۡرَانٗا

ẓukraanañw

males

وَإِنَٰثٗاۖ

waʹinaas̤aa;

and females

وَيَجۡعَلُ

wa-yajʻalu

and He makes

مَن

mañy

whom

يَشَآءُ

yashaaaʹu

He wills

عَقِيمًاۚ

ʻaq̣eemaa:

barren

إِنَّهُۥ

ʹinnahoo

Indeed He

عَلِيمٞ

ʻAleemuñ

(is) All-Knower

قَدِيرٞ

Q̣adeer.

All-Powerful
