۞وَهَلۡ
wahal
And has (there)
أَتَىٰكَ
ataka
come to you
نَبَؤُاْ
naba-u
(the) news
ٱلۡخَصۡمِ
al-khasmi
(of) the litigants
إِذۡ
idh
when
تَسَوَّرُواْ
tasawwaru
they climbed over the wall
ٱلۡمِحۡرَابَ
al-mih'raba
(of) the chamber
٢١

One of the 240 subdivisions of the Quran (quarter of a Hizb)
38:22
إِذۡ
idh
When
دَخَلُواْ
dakhalu
they entered
عَلَىٰ
ala
upon
دَاوُۥدَ
dawuda
Dawood
فَفَزِعَ
fafazi'a
and he was afraid
مِنۡهُمۡۖ
min'hum
of them
قَالُواْ
qalu
they said
لَا
la
(Do) not
تَخَفۡۖ
takhaf
fear
خَصۡمَانِ
khasmani
(We are) two litigants
بَغَىٰ
bagha
has wronged
بَعۡضُنَا
ba'duna
one of us
عَلَىٰ
ala
to
بَعۡضٖ
ba'din
another
فَٱحۡكُم
fa-uh'kum
so judge
بَيۡنَنَا
baynana
between us
بِٱلۡحَقِّ
bil-haqi
in truth
وَلَا
wala
and (do) not
تُشۡطِطۡ
tush'tit
be unjust
وَٱهۡدِنَآ
wa-ih'dina
and guide us
إِلَىٰ
ila
to
سَوَآءِ
sawai
an even
ٱلصِّرَٰطِ
al-sirati
[the] path
٢٢
38:23
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
هَٰذَآ
hadha
this
أَخِي
akhi
(is) my brother
لَهُۥ
lahu
he has
تِسۡعٞ
tis'un
ninety-nine
وَتِسۡعُونَ
watis'una
ninety-nine
نَعۡجَةٗ
na'jatan
ewe(s)
وَلِيَ
waliya
while I have
نَعۡجَةٞ
na'jatun
ewe
وَٰحِدَةٞ
wahidatun
one
فَقَالَ
faqala
so he said
أَكۡفِلۡنِيهَا
akfil'niha
Entrust her to me
وَعَزَّنِي
wa'azzani
and he overpowered me
فِي
fi
in
ٱلۡخِطَابِ
al-khitabi
[the] speech
٢٣
38:24
قَالَ
qala
He said
لَقَدۡ
laqad
Certainly
ظَلَمَكَ
zalamaka
he has wronged you
بِسُؤَالِ
bisuali
by demanding
نَعۡجَتِكَ
na'jatika
your ewe
إِلَىٰ
ila
to
نِعَاجِهِۦۖ
ni'ajihi
his ewes
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
And indeed
كَثِيرٗا
kathiran
many
مِّنَ
mina
of
ٱلۡخُلَطَآءِ
al-khulatai
the partners
لَيَبۡغِي
layabghi
certainly oppress
بَعۡضُهُمۡ
ba'duhum
some of them
عَلَىٰ
ala
[on]
بَعۡضٍ
ba'din
another
إِلَّا
illa
except
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
those who
ءَامَنُواْ
amanu
believe
وَعَمِلُواْ
wa'amilu
and do
ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ
al-salihati
righteous deeds
وَقَلِيلٞ
waqalilun
and few
مَّا
ma
(are) they
هُمۡۗ
hum
(are) they
وَظَنَّ
wazanna
And became certain
دَاوُۥدُ
dawudu
Dawood
أَنَّمَا
annama
that
فَتَنَّٰهُ
fatannahu
We (had) tried him
فَٱسۡتَغۡفَرَ
fa-is'taghfara
and he asked forgiveness
رَبَّهُۥ
rabbahu
(of) his Lord
وَخَرَّۤ
wakharra
and fell down
رَاكِعٗاۤ
raki'an
bowing
وَأَنَابَ۩
wa-anaba
and turned in repentance
٢٤
38:25
فَغَفَرۡنَا
faghafarna
So We forgave
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
ذَٰلِكَۖ
dhalika
that
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
And indeed
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
عِندَنَا
indana
with Us
لَزُلۡفَىٰ
lazul'fa
surely is a near access
وَحُسۡنَ
wahus'na
and a good
مَـَٔابٖ
maabin
place of return
٢٥
38:26
يَٰدَاوُۥدُ
yadawudu
O Dawood
إِنَّا
inna
Indeed We
جَعَلۡنَٰكَ
ja'alnaka
[We] have made you
خَلِيفَةٗ
khalifatan
a vicegerent
فِي
fi
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
al-ardi
the earth
فَٱحۡكُم
fa-uh'kum
so judge
بَيۡنَ
bayna
between
ٱلنَّاسِ
al-nasi
[the] men
بِٱلۡحَقِّ
bil-haqi
in truth
وَلَا
wala
and (do) not
تَتَّبِعِ
tattabi'i
follow
ٱلۡهَوَىٰ
al-hawa
the desire
فَيُضِلَّكَ
fayudillaka
for it will lead you astray
عَن
an
from
سَبِيلِ
sabili
(the) way
ٱللَّهِۚ
al-lahi
(of) Allah
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
those who
يَضِلُّونَ
yadilluna
go astray
عَن
an
from
سَبِيلِ
sabili
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
al-lahi
(of) Allah
لَهُمۡ
lahum
for them
عَذَابٞ
adhabun
(is) a punishment
شَدِيدُۢ
shadidun
severe
بِمَا
bima
because
نَسُواْ
nasu
they forgot
يَوۡمَ
yawma
(the) Day
ٱلۡحِسَابِ
al-hisabi
(of) Account
٢٦

38:27
وَمَا
wama
And not
خَلَقۡنَا
khalaqna
We created
ٱلسَّمَآءَ
al-samaa
the heaven
وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ
wal-arda
and the earth
وَمَا
wama
and whatever
بَيۡنَهُمَا
baynahuma
(is) between them
بَٰطِلٗاۚ
batilan
without purpose
ذَٰلِكَ
dhalika
That
ظَنُّ
zannu
(is the) assumption
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
(of) those who
كَفَرُواْۚ
kafaru
disbelieve
فَوَيۡلٞ
fawaylun
So woe
لِّلَّذِينَ
lilladhina
to those
كَفَرُواْ
kafaru
who disbelieve
مِنَ
mina
from
ٱلنَّارِ
al-nari
the Fire
٢٧
38:28
أَمۡ
am
Or
نَجۡعَلُ
naj'alu
should We treat
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
those who
ءَامَنُواْ
amanu
believe
وَعَمِلُواْ
wa'amilu
and do
ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ
al-salihati
righteous deeds
كَٱلۡمُفۡسِدِينَ
kal-muf'sidina
like those who spread corruption
فِي
fi
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
al-ardi
the earth
أَمۡ
am
Or
نَجۡعَلُ
naj'alu
should We treat
ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ
al-mutaqina
the pious
كَٱلۡفُجَّارِ
kal-fujari
like the wicked
٢٨
38:29
كِتَٰبٌ
kitabun
(This is) a Book
أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ
anzalnahu
We have revealed it
إِلَيۡكَ
ilayka
to you
مُبَٰرَكٞ
mubarakun
blessed
لِّيَدَّبَّرُوٓاْ
liyaddabbaru
that they may ponder
ءَايَٰتِهِۦ
ayatihi
(over) its Verses
وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ
waliyatadhakkara
and may be reminded
أُوْلُواْ
ulu
those of understanding
ٱلۡأَلۡبَٰبِ
al-albabi
those of understanding
٢٩
38:30
وَوَهَبۡنَا
wawahabna
And We gave
لِدَاوُۥدَ
lidawuda
to Dawood
سُلَيۡمَٰنَۚ
sulaymana
Sulaiman
نِعۡمَ
ni'ma
an excellent
ٱلۡعَبۡدُ
al-'abdu
slave
إِنَّهُۥٓ
innahu
Indeed he
أَوَّابٌ
awwabun
(was) one who repeatedly turned
٣٠
38:31
إِذۡ
idh
When
عُرِضَ
urida
were displayed
عَلَيۡهِ
alayhi
to him
بِٱلۡعَشِيِّ
bil-'ashiyi
in the afternoon
ٱلصَّٰفِنَٰتُ
al-safinatu
excellent bred steeds
ٱلۡجِيَادُ
al-jiyadu
excellent bred steeds
٣١
38:32
فَقَالَ
faqala
And he said
إِنِّيٓ
inni
Indeed I
أَحۡبَبۡتُ
ahbabtu
[I] preferred
حُبَّ
hubba
(the) love
ٱلۡخَيۡرِ
al-khayri
(of) the good
عَن
an
over
ذِكۡرِ
dhik'ri
(the) remembrance
رَبِّي
rabbi
(of) my Lord
حَتَّىٰ
hatta
Until
تَوَارَتۡ
tawarat
they were hidden
بِٱلۡحِجَابِ
bil-hijabi
in the veil
٣٢
38:33
رُدُّوهَا
rudduha
Return them
عَلَيَّۖ
alayya
to me
فَطَفِقَ
fatafiqa
Then he began
مَسۡحَۢا
mashan
(to) pass (his hand)
بِٱلسُّوقِ
bil-suqi
over the legs
وَٱلۡأَعۡنَاقِ
wal-a'naqi
and the necks
٣٣
38:34
وَلَقَدۡ
walaqad
And certainly
فَتَنَّا
fatanna
We tried
سُلَيۡمَٰنَ
sulaymana
Sulaiman
وَأَلۡقَيۡنَا
wa-alqayna
and We placed
عَلَىٰ
ala
on
كُرۡسِيِّهِۦ
kur'siyyihi
his throne
جَسَدٗا
jasadan
a body
ثُمَّ
thumma
then
أَنَابَ
anaba
he turned
٣٤
38:35
قَالَ
qala
He said
رَبِّ
rabbi
O my Lord
ٱغۡفِرۡ
igh'fir
Forgive
لِي
li
me
وَهَبۡ
wahab
and grant
لِي
li
me
مُلۡكٗا
mul'kan
a kingdom
لَّا
la
not
يَنۢبَغِي
yanbaghi
(will) belong
لِأَحَدٖ
li-ahadin
to anyone
مِّنۢ
min
after me
بَعۡدِيٓۖ
ba'di
after me
إِنَّكَ
innaka
Indeed You
أَنتَ
anta
[You]
ٱلۡوَهَّابُ
al-wahabu
(are) the Bestower
٣٥
38:36
فَسَخَّرۡنَا
fasakharna
Then We subjected
لَهُ
lahu
to him
ٱلرِّيحَ
al-riha
the wind
تَجۡرِي
tajri
to flow
بِأَمۡرِهِۦ
bi-amrihi
by his command
رُخَآءً
rukhaan
gently
حَيۡثُ
haythu
wherever
أَصَابَ
asaba
he directed
٣٦
38:37
وَٱلشَّيَٰطِينَ
wal-shayatina
And the devils
كُلَّ
kulla
every
بَنَّآءٖ
bannain
builder
وَغَوَّاصٖ
waghawwasin
and diver
٣٧
38:38
وَءَاخَرِينَ
waakharina
And others
مُقَرَّنِينَ
muqarranina
bound
فِي
fi
in
ٱلۡأَصۡفَادِ
al-asfadi
chains
٣٨
38:39
هَٰذَا
hadha
This
عَطَآؤُنَا
atauna
(is) Our gift
فَٱمۡنُنۡ
fa-um'nun
so grant
أَوۡ
aw
or
أَمۡسِكۡ
amsik
withhold
بِغَيۡرِ
bighayri
without
حِسَابٖ
hisabin
account
٣٩
38:40
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
And indeed
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
عِندَنَا
indana
with Us
لَزُلۡفَىٰ
lazul'fa
surely is a near access
وَحُسۡنَ
wahus'na
and a good
مَـَٔابٖ
maabin
place of return
٤٠
38:41
وَٱذۡكُرۡ
wa-udh'kur
And remember
عَبۡدَنَآ
abdana
Our slave
أَيُّوبَ
ayyuba
Ayyub
إِذۡ
idh
when
نَادَىٰ
nada
he called
رَبَّهُۥٓ
rabbahu
his Lord
أَنِّي
anni
That [I]
مَسَّنِيَ
massaniya
(has) touched me
ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنُ
al-shaytanu
Shaitaan
بِنُصۡبٖ
binus'bin
with distress
وَعَذَابٍ
wa'adhabin
and suffering
٤١
38:42
ٱرۡكُضۡ
ur'kud
Strike
بِرِجۡلِكَۖ
birij'lika
with your foot
هَٰذَا
hadha
This
مُغۡتَسَلُۢ
mugh'tasalun
(is a spring of) water to bathe
بَارِدٞ
baridun
cool
وَشَرَابٞ
washarabun
and a drink

وَوَهَبۡنَا
wawahabna
And We granted
لَهُۥٓ
lahu
[to] him
أَهۡلَهُۥ
ahlahu
his family
وَمِثۡلَهُم
wamith'lahum
and a like of them
مَّعَهُمۡ
ma'ahum
with them
رَحۡمَةٗ
rahmatan
a Mercy
مِّنَّا
minna
from Us
وَذِكۡرَىٰ
wadhik'ra
and a Reminder
لِأُوْلِي
li-uli
for those of understanding
ٱلۡأَلۡبَٰبِ
al-albabi
for those of understanding
٤٣
38:44
وَخُذۡ
wakhudh
And take
بِيَدِكَ
biyadika
in your hand
ضِغۡثٗا
digh'than
a bunch
فَٱضۡرِب
fa-id'rib
and strike
بِّهِۦ
bihi
with it
وَلَا
wala
and (do) not
تَحۡنَثۡۗ
tahnath
break (your) oath
إِنَّا
inna
Indeed We
وَجَدۡنَٰهُ
wajadnahu
[We] found him
صَابِرٗاۚ
sabiran
patient
نِّعۡمَ
ni'ma
an excellent
ٱلۡعَبۡدُ
al-'abdu
slave
إِنَّهُۥٓ
innahu
Indeed he
أَوَّابٞ
awwabun
repeatedly turned
٤٤
38:45
وَٱذۡكُرۡ
wa-udh'kur
And remember
عِبَٰدَنَآ
ibadana
Our slaves
إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ
ib'rahima
Ibrahim
وَإِسۡحَٰقَ
wa-is'haqa
and Isaac
وَيَعۡقُوبَ
waya'quba
and Yaqub
أُوْلِي
uli
possessors
ٱلۡأَيۡدِي
al-aydi
(of) strength
وَٱلۡأَبۡصَٰرِ
wal-absari
and vision
٤٥
