One of the 240 subdivisions of the Quran (quarter of a Hizb)

27:27

۞قَالَ

Q̣aala

He said

سَنَنظُرُ

sanañz̤̣uru

We will see

أَصَدَقۡتَ

ʹaṣadaq̣ta

whether you speak (the) truth

أَمۡ

ʹam

كُنتَ

kuñta

you are

مِنَ

minal

ٱلۡكَٰذِبِينَ

kaaẓibeen!

the liars

٢٧

27:28

ٱذۡهَب

ʹIẓhab

بِّكِتَٰبِي

bi-Kitaabee

with my letter

هَٰذَا

haaẓaa

this

فَأَلۡقِهۡ

faʹalq̣ih

and deliver it

إِلَيۡهِمۡ

ʹilayhim

to them

ثُمَّ

s̤umma

Then

تَوَلَّ

tawalla

turn away

عَنۡهُمۡ

ʻanhum

from them

فَٱنظُرۡ

fañz̤̣ur

and see

مَاذَا

maaẓaa

what

يَرۡجِعُونَ

yarjiʻoon.

they return

٢٨

27:29

قَالَتۡ

Q̣aalat

She said

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا

yaaʹayyuhal

ٱلۡمَلَؤُاْ

malaʹu

chiefs

إِنِّيٓ

ʹinneee

Indeed [I]

أُلۡقِيَ

ʹulq̣iya

is delivered

إِلَيَّ

ʹilayya

to me

كِتَٰبٞ

kitaabuñ

a letter

كَرِيمٌ

kareem.

noble

٢٩

27:30

إِنَّهُۥ

ʹInnahoo

Indeed it

مِن

miñ

(is) from

سُلَيۡمَٰنَ

Sulaymaana

Sulaiman

وَإِنَّهُۥ

wa-ʹinnahoo

and indeed it (is)

بِسۡمِ

˹Bismil

In the name

ٱللَّهِ

laahir

(of) Allah

ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ

Raḥmaanir

the Most Gracious

ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Raḥeem:˺

the Most Merciful

27:31

أَلَّا

ʹAllaa

That not

تَعۡلُواْ

taʻloo

exalt yourselves

عَلَيَّ

ʻalayya

against me

وَأۡتُونِي

waʹ-toonee

but come to me

مُسۡلِمِينَ

Muslimeen.

(in) submission

٣١

27:32

قَالَتۡ

Q̣aalat

She said

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا

yaaaʹayyuhal

ٱلۡمَلَؤُاْ

malaʹu

chiefs

أَفۡتُونِي

aftoonee

Advise me

فِيٓ

feee

أَمۡرِي

ʹamree:

my affair

مَا

maa-

Not

كُنتُ

kuñtu

I would be

قَاطِعَةً

q̣aaṭiʻatan

the one to decide

أَمۡرًا

ʹamran

any matter

حَتَّىٰ

ḥattaa

until

تَشۡهَدُونِ

tashhadoon.

you are present with me

٣٢

27:33

قَالُواْ

Q̣aaloo

They said

نَحۡنُ

naḥnu

أُوْلُواْ

ʹuloo

(are) possessors

قُوَّةٖ

q̣uwwatiñw

(of) strength

وَأُوْلُواْ

waʹuloo

and possessors

بَأۡسٖ

baʹsiñ

(of) might

شَدِيدٖ

shadeed:

great

وَٱلۡأَمۡرُ

wal-ʹamru

and the command

إِلَيۡكِ

ʹilayki

(is) up to you

فَٱنظُرِي

fañz̤̣uree

so look

مَاذَا

maaẓaa

what

تَأۡمُرِينَ

taʹmureen.

you will command

٣٣

27:34

قَالَتۡ

Q̣aalat

She said

إِنَّ

ʹinnal

Indeed

ٱلۡمُلُوكَ

mulooka

the kings

إِذَا

ʹiẓaa

when

دَخَلُواْ

dakhaloo

they enter

قَرۡيَةً

q̣aryatan

a town

أَفۡسَدُوهَا

ʹafsadoohaa

they ruin it

وَجَعَلُوٓاْ

wa-jaʻalooo

and make

أَعِزَّةَ

ʹaʻizzata

(the) most honorable

أَهۡلِهَآ

ʹahlihaaa

(of) its people

أَذِلَّةٗۚ

ʹaẓillah:

(the) lowest

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

wa-kaẓaalika

And thus

يَفۡعَلُونَ

yafʻaloon.

they do

٣٤

27:35

وَإِنِّي

Wa-ʹinnee

But indeed I am

مُرۡسِلَةٌ

mursilatun

going to send

إِلَيۡهِم

ʹilayhim

to them

بِهَدِيَّةٖ

bihadiyyatiñ

a gift

فَنَاظِرَةُۢ

fanaaz̤̣iratum

and see

بِمَ

bima

with what

يَرۡجِعُ

yarjiʻul

return

ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ

mursaloon.

the messengers

27:36

فَلَمَّا

Falammaa

So when

جَآءَ

jaaaʹa

came

سُلَيۡمَٰنَ

Sulaymaana

(to) Sulaiman

قَالَ

q̣aala

he said

أَتُمِدُّونَنِ

ʹatumiddoonani

Will you provide me

بِمَالٖ

bimaal?

with wealth

فَمَآ

Famaaa

But what

ءَاتَىٰنِۦَ

ʹaataaniyal

Allah has given me

ٱللَّهُ

laahu

Allah has given me

خَيۡرٞ

khayrum

(is) better

مِّمَّآ

mimmaaa

than what

ءَاتَىٰكُمۚ

ʹaataakum!

He has given you

بَلۡ

Bal

Nay

أَنتُم

ʹañtum̃

you

بِهَدِيَّتِكُمۡ

bihadiyyatikum

in your gift

تَفۡرَحُونَ

tafraḥoon!

rejoice

٣٦

27:37

ٱرۡجِعۡ

ʹIrjiʻ

Return

إِلَيۡهِمۡ

ʹilayhim

to them

فَلَنَأۡتِيَنَّهُم

falanaʹtiyannahum̃

surely we will come to them

بِجُنُودٖ

bijunoodil

with hosts

لَّا

laa

not

قِبَلَ

q̣ibala

(is) resistance

لَهُم

lahum̃

for them

بِهَا

bihaa

of it

وَلَنُخۡرِجَنَّهُم

wa-lanukhrijannahum

and surely we will drive them out

مِّنۡهَآ

minhaaa

from there

أَذِلَّةٗ

ʹaẓillatañw

(in) humiliation

وَهُمۡ

Wahum

and they

صَٰغِرُونَ

ṣaag̣iroon.

(will be) abased

٣٧

27:38

قَالَ

Q̣aala

He said

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا

yaaaʹayyuhal

ٱلۡمَلَؤُاْ

malaʹu

chiefs

أَيُّكُمۡ

ʹayyukum

Which of you

يَأۡتِينِي

yaʹteenee

will bring me

بِعَرۡشِهَا

biʻarshihaa

her throne

قَبۡلَ

q̣abla

before

أَن

ʹañy

that

يَأۡتُونِي

yaʹtoonee

they come to me

مُسۡلِمِينَ

muslimeen?

(in) submission

٣٨

27:39

قَالَ

Q̣aala

Said

عِفۡرِيتٞ

ʻIfreetum

a strong one

مِّنَ

minal

ٱلۡجِنِّ

jinni

the jinn

أَنَا۠

ʹana

ءَاتِيكَ

ʹaateeka

will bring it to you

بِهِۦ

bihee

will bring it to you

قَبۡلَ

q̣abla

before

أَن

ʹañ

[that]

تَقُومَ

taq̣ooma

you rise

مِن

mim

from

مَّقَامِكَۖ

maq̣aamik:

your place

وَإِنِّي

wa-ʹinnee

And indeed I am

عَلَيۡهِ

ʻalayhi

for it

لَقَوِيٌّ

laq̣awiyyun

surely strong

أَمِينٞ

ʹameen.

trustworthy

٣٩

27:40

قَالَ

Q̣aalal

Said

ٱلَّذِي

laẓee

one who

عِندَهُۥ

ʻiñdahoo

with him

عِلۡمٞ

ʻilmum

(was) knowledge

مِّنَ

minal

ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ

Kitaabi

the Scripture

أَنَا۠

ʹana

ءَاتِيكَ

ʹaateeka

will bring it to you

بِهِۦ

bihee

will bring it to you

قَبۡلَ

q̣abla

before

أَن

ʹañy

[that]

يَرۡتَدَّ

yartadda

returns

إِلَيۡكَ

ʹilayka

to you

طَرۡفُكَۚ

ṭarfuk!

your glance

فَلَمَّا

Falammaa

Then when

رَءَاهُ

raʹaahu

he saw it

مُسۡتَقِرًّا

mustaq̣irran

placed

عِندَهُۥ

ʻiñdahoo

before him

قَالَ

q̣aala

he said

هَٰذَا

haaẓaa

This

مِن

miñ

(is) from

فَضۡلِ

faḍli

(the) Favor

رَبِّي

Rabbee

(of) my Lord

لِيَبۡلُوَنِيٓ

liyabluwaneee

to test me

ءَأَشۡكُرُ

ʹaʹashkuru

whether I am grateful

أَمۡ

ʹam

أَكۡفُرُۖ

ʹakfur!

I am ungrateful

وَمَن

Wa-mañ

And whoever

شَكَرَ

shakara

(is) grateful

فَإِنَّمَا

faʹinnamaa

then only

يَشۡكُرُ

yashkuru

he is grateful

لِنَفۡسِهِۦۖ

linafsih;

for his own soul

وَمَن

wa-mañ

And whoever

كَفَرَ

kafara

(is) ungrateful

فَإِنَّ

faʹinna

then indeed

رَبِّي

Rabbee

my Lord

غَنِيّٞ

G̣aniyyuñ

(is) Self-sufficient

كَرِيمٞ

Kareem!...

Noble

٤٠

27:41

قَالَ

Q̣aala

He said

نَكِّرُواْ

nakkiroo

Disguise

لَهَا

lahaa

for her

عَرۡشَهَا

ʻarshahaa

her throne

نَنظُرۡ

nañz̤̣ur

we will see

أَتَهۡتَدِيٓ

ʹatahtadeee

whether she will be guided

أَمۡ

ʹam

تَكُونُ

takoonu

will be

مِنَ

minal

ٱلَّذِينَ

laẓeena

those who

لَا

laa-

are not guided

يَهۡتَدُونَ

yahtadoon.

are not guided

٤١

27:42

فَلَمَّا

Falammaa

So when

جَآءَتۡ

jaaaʹat

she came

قِيلَ

q̣eela

it was said

أَهَٰكَذَا

ʹahaakaẓaa

Is like this

عَرۡشُكِۖ

ʻarshuk?

your throne

قَالَتۡ

Q̣aalat

She said

كَأَنَّهُۥ

kaʹannahoo

It is like

هُوَۚ

hoo;

وَأُوتِينَا

wa-ʹooteenal

And we were given

ٱلۡعِلۡمَ

ʻilma

the knowledge

مِن

miñ

before her

قَبۡلِهَا

q̣ablihaa

before her

وَكُنَّا

wa-kunnaa

and we have been

مُسۡلِمِينَ

Muslimeen.

Muslims

٤٢

27:43

وَصَدَّهَا

Waṣaddahaa

And has averted her

مَا

maa-

what

كَانَت

kaanat

she used (to)

تَّعۡبُدُ

taʻbudu

worship

مِن

miñ

besides

دُونِ

doonil

besides

ٱللَّهِۖ

laah:

Allah

إِنَّهَا

ʹinnahaa

Indeed she

كَانَتۡ

kaanat

was

مِن

miñ

from

قَوۡمٖ

q̣awmiñ

a people

كَٰفِرِينَ

kaafireen.

who disbelieve

٤٣

27:44

قِيلَ

Q̣eela

It was said

لَهَا

lahad

to her

ٱدۡخُلِي

khuliṣ

Enter

ٱلصَّرۡحَۖ

ṣarḥ:

the palace

فَلَمَّا

falammaaنَ

Then when

رَأَتۡهُ

raʹathu

she saw it

حَسِبَتۡهُ

ḥasibathu

she thought it

لُجَّةٗ

lujjatañw

(was) a pool

وَكَشَفَتۡ

wakashafat

and she uncovered

عَن

ʻañ

[on]

سَاقَيۡهَاۚ

saaq̣ayhaa.

her shins

قَالَ

Q̣aala

He said

إِنَّهُۥ

ʹinnahoo

Indeed it

صَرۡحٞ

ṣarḥum

(is) a palace

مُّمَرَّدٞ

mumarradum

made smooth

مِّن

miñ

قَوَارِيرَۗ

q̣awaareer.

glass

قَالَتۡ

Q̣aalat

She said

رَبِّ

Rabbi

My Lord

إِنِّي

ʹinnee

indeed I

ظَلَمۡتُ

z̤̣alamtu

[I] have wronged

نَفۡسِي

nafsee

myself

وَأَسۡلَمۡتُ

wa-ʹaslamtu

and I submit

مَعَ

maʻa

with

سُلَيۡمَٰنَ

Sulaymaana

Sulaiman

لِلَّهِ

lillaahi

to Allah

رَبِّ

Rabbil

(the) Lord

ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ

ʻAalameen.

(of) the worlds

٤٤

27:45

وَلَقَدۡ

Wa-laq̣ad

And certainly

أَرۡسَلۡنَآ

ʹarsalnaaa

We sent

إِلَىٰ

ʹilaa

ثَمُودَ

S̤amooda

Thamud

أَخَاهُمۡ

ʹakhaahum

their brother

صَٰلِحًا

Ṣaaliḥan

Salih

أَنِ

ʹaniʻ

that

ٱعۡبُدُواْ

budul

Worship

ٱللَّهَ

laaha

Allah

فَإِذَا

faʹiẓaa

Then behold

هُمۡ

hum

They

فَرِيقَانِ

fareeq̣aani

(became) two parties

يَخۡتَصِمُونَ

yakhtaṣimoon.

quarreling

٤٥

27:46

قَالَ

Q̣aala

He said

يَٰقَوۡمِ

yaa-q̣awmi

O my people

لِمَ

lima

Why

تَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَ

tastaʻjiloona

(do) you seek to hasten

بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ

bissayyiʹati

the evil

قَبۡلَ

q̣ablal

before

ٱلۡحَسَنَةِۖ

ḥasanah?

the good

لَوۡلَا

Law-laa

Why not

تَسۡتَغۡفِرُونَ

tas-tag̣firoonal

you ask forgiveness

ٱللَّهَ

laaha

(of) Allah

لَعَلَّكُمۡ

laʻallakum

so that you may

تُرۡحَمُونَ

turḥamoon.

receive mercy

٤٦

27:47

قَالُواْ

Q̣aaluṭ

They said

ٱطَّيَّرۡنَا

ṭayyarnaa

We consider you a bad omen

بِكَ

bika

We consider you a bad omen

وَبِمَن

wa-bimam

and those

مَّعَكَۚ

maʻak.

with you

قَالَ

Q̣aala

He said

طَٰٓئِرُكُمۡ

ṭaaaʹirukum

Your bad omen

عِندَ

ʻiñdal

(is) with

ٱللَّهِۖ

laahi

Allah

بَلۡ

bal

Nay

أَنتُمۡ

ʹañtum

you

قَوۡمٞ

q̣awmuñ

(are) a people

تُفۡتَنُونَ

tuftanoon.

being tested

٤٧

27:48

وَكَانَ

Wa-kaana

And were

فِي

fil

ٱلۡمَدِينَةِ

madeenati

the city

تِسۡعَةُ

tisʻatu

nine

رَهۡطٖ

rahṭiñy

family heads

يُفۡسِدُونَ

yufsidoona

they were spreading corruption

فِي

fil

ٱلۡأَرۡضِ

ʹarḍi

the land

وَلَا

wa-laa

and not

يُصۡلِحُونَ

yuṣliḥoon.

reforming

٤٨

27:49

قَالُواْ

Q̣aaloo

They said

تَقَاسَمُواْ

taq̣aasamoo

Swear to each other

بِٱللَّهِ

billaahi

by Allah

لَنُبَيِّتَنَّهُۥ

lanubayyitannahoo

surely we will attack him by night

وَأَهۡلَهُۥ

wa-ʹahlahoo

and his family

ثُمَّ

s̤umma

Then

لَنَقُولَنَّ

lanaq̣oolanna

we will surely say

لِوَلِيِّهِۦ

liwaliyyihee

to his heir

مَا

maa-

Not

شَهِدۡنَا

shahidnaa

we witnessed

مَهۡلِكَ

mahlika

(the) destruction

أَهۡلِهِۦ

ʹahlihee

(of) his family

وَإِنَّا

wa-ʹinnaa

and indeed we

لَصَٰدِقُونَ

laṣaadiq̣oon.

(are) surely truthful

٤٩

27:50

وَمَكَرُواْ

Wa-makaroo

So they plotted

مَكۡرٗا

makrañw

a plot

وَمَكَرۡنَا

wamakarnaa

and We planned

مَكۡرٗا

makrañw

a plan

وَهُمۡ

wahum

while they

لَا

laa-

(did) not

يَشۡعُرُونَ

yashʻuroon.

perceive

٥٠

27:51

فَٱنظُرۡ

Fañz̤̣ur

Then see

كَيۡفَ

kayfa

how

كَانَ

kaana

was

عَٰقِبَةُ

ʻaaq̣ibatu

(the) end

مَكۡرِهِمۡ

makrihim

(of) their plot

أَنَّا

ʹannaa

that We

دَمَّرۡنَٰهُمۡ

dammarnaahum

destroyed them

وَقَوۡمَهُمۡ

wa-q̣awmahum

and their people

أَجۡمَعِينَ

ʹajmaʻeen.
