surah021

21:1

ٱقۡتَرَبَ

ʹIq̣taraba

(Has) approached

لِلنَّاسِ

linnaasi

for [the] mankind

حِسَابُهُمۡ

Ḥisaabuhum

their account

وَهُمۡ

wa-hum

while they

فِي

fee

(are) in

غَفۡلَةٖ

g̣aflatim

heedlessness

مُّعۡرِضُونَ

muʻriḍoon.

turning away

21:2

مَا

Maa-

Not

يَأۡتِيهِم

yaʹteehim

comes to them

مِّن

miñ

ذِكۡرٖ

Ẓikrim

a Reminder

مِّن

mir

from

رَّبِّهِم

Rabbihim

their Lord

مُّحۡدَثٍ

muḥdas̤in

anew

إِلَّا

ʹillas

except

ٱسۡتَمَعُوهُ

tamaʻoohu

they listen to it

وَهُمۡ

wa-hum

while they

يَلۡعَبُونَ

yalʻaboon,

(are at) play

21:3

لَاهِيَةٗ

Laahiyatañ

Distracted

قُلُوبُهُمۡۗ

q̣uloobuhum.

their hearts

وَأَسَرُّواْ

Wa-ʹasarrun

And they conceal

ٱلنَّجۡوَى

najwal

the private conversation

ٱلَّذِينَ

laẓeena

those who

ظَلَمُواْ

z̤̣alamoo

[they] wronged

هَلۡ

hal

هَٰذَآ

haaẓaaa

this

إِلَّا

ʹillaa

except

بَشَرٞ

basharum

a human being

مِّثۡلُكُمۡۖ

mis̤lukum?

like you

أَفَتَأۡتُونَ

ʹAfataʹtoonas

So would you approach

ٱلسِّحۡرَ

siḥra

the magic

وَأَنتُمۡ

wa-ʹañtum

while you

تُبۡصِرُونَ

tubṣiroon?

see (it)

21:4

قَالَ

Q̣aala

He said

رَبِّي

Rabbee

My Lord

يَعۡلَمُ

yaʻlamul

knows

ٱلۡقَوۡلَ

Q̣awla

the word

فِي

fis

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

samaaaʹi

the heavens

وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ

wal-ʹarḍ:

and the earth

وَهُوَ

wa-Huwas

And He

ٱلسَّمِيعُ

Sameeʻul

(is) the All-Hearer

ٱلۡعَلِيمُ

ʻAleem.

the All-Knower

21:5

بَلۡ

Bal

Nay

قَالُوٓاْ

q̣aalooo

they say

أَضۡغَٰثُ

ʹaḍg̣aas̤u

Muddled

أَحۡلَٰمِۭ

ʹaḥlaamim

dreams

بَلِ

bal

nay

ٱفۡتَرَىٰهُ

iftaraahu

he (has) invented it

بَلۡ

bal

nay

هُوَ

huwa

شَاعِرٞ

shaaʻir!

(is) a poet

فَلۡيَأۡتِنَا

fal-yaʹtinaa

So let him bring us

بِـَٔايَةٖ

biʹAayatiñ

a sign

كَمَآ

kamaaa

like what

أُرۡسِلَ

ʹursilal

was sent

ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ

ʹawwaloon!

(to) the former

21:6

مَآ

Maaa

Not

ءَامَنَتۡ

ʹaamanat

believed

قَبۡلَهُم

q̣ablahum

before them

مِّن

miñ

any

قَرۡيَةٍ

q̣aryatin

town

أَهۡلَكۡنَٰهَآۖ

ʹahlaknaahaa:

which We destroyed

أَفَهُمۡ

ʹa-fahum

so will they

يُؤۡمِنُونَ

yuʹminoon?

believe

21:7

وَمَآ

Wa-maaa

And not

أَرۡسَلۡنَا

ʹarsalnaa

We sent

قَبۡلَكَ

q̣ablaka

before you

إِلَّا

ʹillaa

except

رِجَالٗا

rijaalan

men

نُّوحِيٓ

nooḥeee

We revealed

إِلَيۡهِمۡۖ

ʹilayhim

to them

فَسۡـَٔلُوٓاْ

fasʹalooo

So ask

أَهۡلَ

ʹAhlaẓ

(the) people

ٱلذِّكۡرِ

Ẓikri

(of) the Reminder

إِن

ʹiñ

كُنتُمۡ

kuñtum

you

لَا

laa-

(do) not

تَعۡلَمُونَ

taʻlamoon.

know

21:8

وَمَا

Wa-maa

And not

جَعَلۡنَٰهُمۡ

jaʻalnaahum

We made them

جَسَدٗا

jasadal

bodies

لَّا

laa

not

يَأۡكُلُونَ

yaʹkuloonaṭ

eating

ٱلطَّعَامَ

ṭaʻaama

the food

وَمَا

wa-maa

and not

كَانُواْ

kaanoo

they were

خَٰلِدِينَ

khaalideen.

immortals

21:9

ثُمَّ

S̤umma

Then

صَدَقۡنَٰهُمُ

ṣadaq̣naahumul

We fulfilled (for) them

ٱلۡوَعۡدَ

waʻda

the promise

فَأَنجَيۡنَٰهُمۡ

faʹañjaynaahum

and We saved them

وَمَن

wa-man

and whom

نَّشَآءُ

nashaaaʹu

We willed

وَأَهۡلَكۡنَا

wa-ʹahlaknal

and We destroyed

ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِينَ

musrifeen.

the transgressors

21:10

لَقَدۡ

Laq̣ad

Indeed

أَنزَلۡنَآ

ʹañzalnaaa

We (have) sent down

إِلَيۡكُمۡ

ʹilaykum

to you

كِتَٰبٗا

Kitaabañ

a Book

فِيهِ

feehi

in it

ذِكۡرُكُمۡۚ

Ẓikrukum:

(is) your mention

أَفَلَا

ʹafalaa

Then will not

تَعۡقِلُونَ

taʻq̣iloon?

you use reason

وَكَمۡ

Wa-kam

And how many

قَصَمۡنَا

q̣aṣamnaa

We (have) shattered

مِن

miñ

قَرۡيَةٖ

q̣aryatiñ

a town

كَانَتۡ

kaanat

(that) was

ظَالِمَةٗ

z̤̣aalimatañw

unjust

وَأَنشَأۡنَا

wa-ʹañshaʹnaa

and We produced

بَعۡدَهَا

baʻdahaa

after them

قَوۡمًا

q̣awman

another people

ءَاخَرِينَ

ʹaakhareen?

another people

١١

21:12

فَلَمَّآ

Falammaaa

Then when

أَحَسُّواْ

ʹaḥassoo

they perceived

بَأۡسَنَآ

baʹsanaaa

Our torment

إِذَا

ʹiẓaa

behold

هُم

hum

they

مِّنۡهَا

minhaa

from it

يَرۡكُضُونَ

yarkuḍoon.

were fleeing

١٢

21:13

لَا

Laa-

Flee not

تَرۡكُضُواْ

tarkuḍoo

Flee not

وَٱرۡجِعُوٓاْ

warjiʻooo

but return

إِلَىٰ

ʹilaa

مَآ

maaa

what

أُتۡرِفۡتُمۡ

ʹutriftum

you were given luxury

فِيهِ

feehi

in it

وَمَسَٰكِنِكُمۡ

wa-masaakinikum

and to your homes

لَعَلَّكُمۡ

laʻallakum

so that you may

تُسۡـَٔلُونَ

tusʹaloon.

be questioned

١٣

21:14

قَالُواْ

Q̣aaloo

They said

يَٰوَيۡلَنَآ

yaa-waylanaaa

O woe to us

إِنَّا

ʹinnaa

Indeed [we]

كُنَّا

kunnaa

we were

ظَٰلِمِينَ

z̤̣aalimeen!

wrongdoers

١٤

21:15

فَمَا

Famaa

Then not

زَالَت

zaalat

ceased

تِّلۡكَ

tilka

[this]

دَعۡوَىٰهُمۡ

daʻwaahum

their cry

حَتَّىٰ

ḥattaa

until

جَعَلۡنَٰهُمۡ

jaʻalnaahum

We made them

حَصِيدًا

ḥaṣeedan

reaped

خَٰمِدِينَ

khaamideen.

extinct

١٥

21:16

وَمَا

Wa-maa

And not

خَلَقۡنَا

khalaq̣nas

We created

ٱلسَّمَآءَ

samaaaʹa

the heavens

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ

wal-ʹarḍa

and the earth

وَمَا

wa-maa

and what

بَيۡنَهُمَا

baynahumaa

(is) between them

لَٰعِبِينَ

laaʻibeen!

(for) playing

١٦

21:17

لَوۡ

Law

أَرَدۡنَآ

ʹaradnaaa

We intended

أَن

ʹan

that

نَّتَّخِذَ

nattakhiẓa

We take

لَهۡوٗا

lahwal

a pastime

لَّٱتَّخَذۡنَٰهُ

lat-takhaẓnaahu

surely We (could have) taken it

مِن

mil

from

لَّدُنَّآ

ladunnaaa

إِن

ʹiñ

كُنَّا

kunnaa

We were

فَٰعِلِينَ

faaʻileen!

doers

١٧

21:18

بَلۡ

Bal

Nay

نَقۡذِفُ

naq̣ẓifu

We hurl

بِٱلۡحَقِّ

bil-Ḥaq̣q̣i

the truth

عَلَى

ʻalal

against

ٱلۡبَٰطِلِ

baaṭili

[the] falsehood

فَيَدۡمَغُهُۥ

fayadmag̣uhoo

and it breaks its head

فَإِذَا

faʹiẓaa

behold

هُوَ

huwa

it (is)

زَاهِقٞۚ

zaahiq̣!

vanishing

وَلَكُمُ

Wa-lakumul

And for you

ٱلۡوَيۡلُ

waylu

(is) destruction

مِمَّا

mimmaa

for what

تَصِفُونَ

taṣifoon.

you ascribe

١٨

21:19

وَلَهُۥ

Wa-lahoo

And to Him (belongs)

مَن

mañ

whoever

فِي

fis

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ

samaawaati

the heavens

وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ

wal-ʹarḍ:

and the earth

وَمَنۡ

wa-man

And (those) who

عِندَهُۥ

ʻiñdahoo

(are) near Him

لَا

laa-

not

يَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ

yastakbiroona

they are arrogant

عَنۡ

ʻan

عِبَادَتِهِۦ

ʻibaadatihee

worship Him

وَلَا

wa-laa

and not

يَسۡتَحۡسِرُونَ

yastaḥsiroon.

they tire

١٩

21:20

يُسَبِّحُونَ

Yusabbiḥoonal

They glorify (Him)

ٱلَّيۡلَ

layla

[the] night

وَٱلنَّهَارَ

wannahaara

and [the] day

لَا

laa-

not

يَفۡتُرُونَ

yafturoon.

they slacken

٢٠

21:21

أَمِ

ʹAmit

ٱتَّخَذُوٓاْ

takhaẓooo

(have) they taken

ءَالِهَةٗ

ʹaalihatam

gods

مِّنَ

minal

from

ٱلۡأَرۡضِ

ʹarḍi

the earth

هُمۡ

hum

they

يُنشِرُونَ

yuñshiroon?

raise (the dead)

٢١

21:22

لَوۡ

Law

كَانَ

kaana

(there) were

فِيهِمَآ

feehimaaa

in both of them

ءَالِهَةٌ

ʹaalihatun

gods

إِلَّا

ʹillal

besides

ٱللَّهُ

laahu

Allah

لَفَسَدَتَاۚ

lafasadataa!

surely they (would) have been ruined

فَسُبۡحَٰنَ

Fa-Subḥaanal

So glorified

ٱللَّهِ

laahi

(is) Allah

رَبِّ

Rabbil

Lord

ٱلۡعَرۡشِ

ʻArshi

(of) the Throne

عَمَّا

ʻammaa

(above) what

يَصِفُونَ

yaṣifoon!

they attribute

٢٢

21:23

لَا

Laa-

Not

يُسۡـَٔلُ

yusʹalu

He (can) be questioned

عَمَّا

ʻammaa

about what

يَفۡعَلُ

yafʻalu

He does

وَهُمۡ

wa-hum

but they

يُسۡـَٔلُونَ

yusʹaloon.

will be questioned

21:24

أَمِ

ʹAmit

ٱتَّخَذُواْ

takhaẓoo

(have) they taken

مِن

miñ

besides Him

دُونِهِۦٓ

dooniheee

besides Him

ءَالِهَةٗۖ

ʹaalihah?

gods

قُلۡ

Q̣ul

Say

هَاتُواْ

haatoo

Bring

بُرۡهَٰنَكُمۡۖ

burhaanakum:

your proof

هَٰذَا

haaẓaa

This

ذِكۡرُ

Ẓikru

(is) a Reminder

مَن

mam

(for those) who

مَّعِيَ

maʻiya

(are) with me

وَذِكۡرُ

wa-Ẓikru

and a Reminder

مَن

mañ

(for those) who

قَبۡلِيۚ

q̣ablee

(were) before me

بَلۡ

Bal

But

أَكۡثَرُهُمۡ

ʹaks̤aruhum

most of them

لَا

laa-

(do) not

يَعۡلَمُونَ

yaʻlamoonal

know

ٱلۡحَقَّۖ

Ḥaq̣q̣a

the truth

فَهُم

fahum

so they

مُّعۡرِضُونَ

muʻriḍoon.

(are) averse

21:25

وَمَآ

Wa-maaa

And not

أَرۡسَلۡنَا

ʹarsalnaa

We sent

مِن

miñ

before you

قَبۡلِكَ

q̣ablika

before you

مِن

mir

any

رَّسُولٍ

rasoolin

Messenger

إِلَّا

ʹillaa

but

نُوحِيٓ

nooḥeee

We reveal(ed)

إِلَيۡهِ

ʹilayhi

to him

أَنَّهُۥ

ʹannahoo

that [He]

لَآ

Laaa

(There is) no

إِلَٰهَ

ʹilaaha

god

إِلَّآ

ʹillaaa

except

أَنَا۠

ʹAna

فَٱعۡبُدُونِ

faʻbudoon.

so worship Me
