20:111

۞وَعَنَتِ

Wa-ʻanatil

And (will be) humbled

ٱلۡوُجُوهُ

wujoohu

the faces

لِلۡحَيِّ

lil-Ḥayyil

before the Ever-Living

ٱلۡقَيُّومِۖ

Q̣ayyoom:

the Self-Subsisting

وَقَدۡ

wa-q̣ad

And verily

خَابَ

khaaba

will have failed

مَنۡ

man

(he) who

حَمَلَ

ḥamala

carried

ظُلۡمٗا

z̤̣ulmaa.

wrongdoing

١١١

20:112

وَمَن

Wa-mañy

But (he) who

يَعۡمَلۡ

yaʻmal

does

مِنَ

minaṣ

ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ

ṣaaliḥaati

the righteous deeds

وَهُوَ

wa-huwa

while he

مُؤۡمِنٞ

Muʹminuñ

(is) a believer

فَلَا

falaa

then not

يَخَافُ

yakhaafu

he will fear

ظُلۡمٗا

z̤̣ulmañw

injustice

وَلَا

walaa

and not

هَضۡمٗا

haḍmaa.

deprivation

١١٢

20:113

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

Wa-kaẓaalika

And thus

أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ

ʹañzalnaahu

We have sent it down

قُرۡءَانًا

Q̣ur-ʹaanan

(the) Quran

عَرَبِيّٗا

ʻArabiyyañw

(in) Arabic

وَصَرَّفۡنَا

waṣarrafnaa

and We have explained

فِيهِ

fee-hi

in it

مِنَ

minal

ٱلۡوَعِيدِ

waʻeedi

the warnings

لَعَلَّهُمۡ

laʻallahum

that they may

يَتَّقُونَ

yattaq̣oona

fear

أَوۡ

ʹaw

يُحۡدِثُ

yuḥdis̤u

it may cause

لَهُمۡ

lahum

[for] them

ذِكۡرٗا

ẓikraa.

remembrance

20:114

فَتَعَٰلَى

Fataʻaalal

So high (above all)

ٱللَّهُ

laahul

(is) Allah

ٱلۡمَلِكُ

Malikul

the King

ٱلۡحَقُّۗ

Ḥaq̣q̣!

the True

وَلَا

Wa-laa

And (do) not

تَعۡجَلۡ

taʻjal

hasten

بِٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ

bil-q̣urʹaani

with the Quran

مِن

miñ

before

قَبۡلِ

q̣abli

before

أَن

ʹañy

[that]

يُقۡضَىٰٓ

yuq̣ḍaaa

is completed

إِلَيۡكَ

ʹilayka

to you

وَحۡيُهُۥۖ

waḥyuh:

its revelation

وَقُل

wa-q̣ur

and say

رَّبِّ

Rabbi

My Lord

زِدۡنِي

zidnee

Increase me

عِلۡمٗا

ʻilmaa.

(in) knowledge

١١٤

20:115

وَلَقَدۡ

Wa-laq̣ad

And verily

عَهِدۡنَآ

ʻahidnaaa

We made a covenant

إِلَىٰٓ

ʹilaaa

with

ءَادَمَ

ʹAadama

Adam

مِن

miñ

before

قَبۡلُ

q̣ablu

before

فَنَسِيَ

fanasiya

but he forgot

وَلَمۡ

wa-lam

and not

نَجِدۡ

najid

We found

لَهُۥ

lahoo

in him

عَزۡمٗا

ʻazmaa.

determination

١١٥

20:116

وَإِذۡ

Wa-ʹiẓ

And when

قُلۡنَا

q̣ulnaa

We said

لِلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ

lilmalaaaʹikatis

to the Angels

ٱسۡجُدُواْ

judoo

Prostrate

لِأٓدَمَ

liʹAadama

to Adam

فَسَجَدُوٓاْ

fasajadooo

then they prostrated

إِلَّآ

ʹillaaa

except

إِبۡلِيسَ

ʹIbleesa

Iblis

أَبَىٰ

ʹabaa.

he refused

١١٦

20:117

فَقُلۡنَا

Faq̣ulnaa

Then We said

يَٰٓـَٔادَمُ

YaaaʹAadamu

O Adam

إِنَّ

ʹinna

Indeed

هَٰذَا

haaẓaa

this

عَدُوّٞ

ʻaduwwul

(is) an enemy

لَّكَ

laka

to you

وَلِزَوۡجِكَ

wa-lizawjika

and to your wife

فَلَا

falaa

So not

يُخۡرِجَنَّكُمَا

yukhrijannakumaa

(let) him drive you both

مِنَ

minal

from

ٱلۡجَنَّةِ

Jannati

Paradise

فَتَشۡقَىٰٓ

fatashq̣aa.

so (that) you would suffer

١١٧

20:118

إِنَّ

ʹInna

Indeed

لَكَ

laka

for you

أَلَّا

ʹallaa

that not

تَجُوعَ

tajooʻa

you will be hungry

فِيهَا

feehaa

therein

وَلَا

wa-laa

and not

تَعۡرَىٰ

taʻraa,

you will be unclothed

١١٨

20:119

وَأَنَّكَ

Wa-ʹannaka

And that you

لَا

laa-

not

تَظۡمَؤُاْ

taz̤̣maʹu

will suffer from thirst

فِيهَا

feehaa

therein

وَلَا

wa-laa

and not

تَضۡحَىٰ

taḍḥaa.

exposed to the sun's heat

١١٩

20:120

فَوَسۡوَسَ

Fawaswasa

Then whispered

إِلَيۡهِ

ʹilayhish

to him

ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنُ

Shayṭaanu

Shaitaan

قَالَ

q̣aala

he said

يَٰٓـَٔادَمُ

YaaaʹAadamu

O Adam

هَلۡ

hal

Shall

أَدُلُّكَ

ʹadulluka

I direct you

عَلَىٰ

ʻalaa

شَجَرَةِ

Shajaratil

(the) tree

ٱلۡخُلۡدِ

khuldi

(of) the Eternity

وَمُلۡكٖ

wa-mulkil

and a kingdom

لَّا

laa

not

يَبۡلَىٰ

yablaa.

(that will) deteriorate

١٢٠

20:121

فَأَكَلَا

Faʹakalaa

Then they both ate

مِنۡهَا

minhaa

from it

فَبَدَتۡ

fabadat

so became apparent

لَهُمَا

lahumaa

to them

سَوۡءَٰتُهُمَا

saw-ʹaatuhumaa

their shame

وَطَفِقَا

waṭafiq̣aa

and they began

يَخۡصِفَانِ

yakhṣifaani

(to) fasten

عَلَيۡهِمَا

ʻalayhimaa

on themselves

مِن

miñw

from

وَرَقِ

waraq̣il

(the) leaves

ٱلۡجَنَّةِۚ

Jannah:

(of) Paradise

وَعَصَىٰٓ

wa-ʻaṣaaa

And Adam disobeyed

ءَادَمُ

ʹAadamu

And Adam disobeyed

رَبَّهُۥ

Rabbahoo

his Lord

فَغَوَىٰ

fag̣awaa.

and erred

١٢١

20:122

ثُمَّ

S̤ummaj

Then

ٱجۡتَبَٰهُ

tabaahu

chose him

رَبُّهُۥ

Rabbuhoo

his Lord

فَتَابَ

fataaba

and turned

عَلَيۡهِ

ʻalayhi

to him

وَهَدَىٰ

wa-hadaa.

and guided (him)

١٢٢

20:123

قَالَ

Q̣aalah

He said

ٱهۡبِطَا

biṭaa

Go down

مِنۡهَا

minhaa

from it

جَمِيعَۢاۖ

jameeʻam

all

بَعۡضُكُمۡ

baʻḍukum

some of you

لِبَعۡضٍ

libaʻḍin

to others

عَدُوّٞۖ

ʻaduww:

(as) enemy

فَإِمَّا

faʹimmaa

Then if

يَأۡتِيَنَّكُم

yaʹtiyannakum

comes to you

مِّنِّي

minnee

from Me

هُدٗى

Hudañ

guidance

فَمَنِ

famanit

then whoever

ٱتَّبَعَ

tabaʻa

follows

هُدَايَ

Hudaaya

My guidance

فَلَا

falaa

then not

يَضِلُّ

yaḍillu

he will go astray

وَلَا

wa-laa

and not

يَشۡقَىٰ

yashq̣aa.

suffer

١٢٣

20:124

وَمَنۡ

Wa-man

And whoever

أَعۡرَضَ

ʹaʻraḍa

turns away

عَن

ʻañ

from

ذِكۡرِي

Ẓikree

My remembrance

فَإِنَّ

faʹinna

then indeed

لَهُۥ

lahoo

for him

مَعِيشَةٗ

maʻeeshatañ

(is) a life

ضَنكٗا

ḍañkañw

straitened

وَنَحۡشُرُهُۥ

wanaḥshuruhoo

and We will gather him

يَوۡمَ

Yawmal

(on the) Day

ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ

Q̣iyaamati

(of) the Resurrection

أَعۡمَىٰ

ʹaʻmaa.

blind

١٢٤

20:125

قَالَ

Q̣aala

He will say

رَبِّ

Rabbi

My Lord

لِمَ

lima

Why

حَشَرۡتَنِيٓ

ḥashartaneee

You raised me

أَعۡمَىٰ

ʹaʻmaa-

blind

وَقَدۡ

wa-q̣ad

while [verily]

كُنتُ

kuñtu

I had

بَصِيرٗا

baṣeeraa?

sight

١٢٥

Page 321

20:126

قَالَ

Q̣aala

He will say

كَذَٰلِكَ

kaẓaalika

Thus

أَتَتۡكَ

ʹatatka

came to you

ءَايَٰتُنَا

ʹAayaatunaa

Our Signs

فَنَسِيتَهَاۖ

fanaseetahaa:

but you forgot them

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

wa-kaẓaalikal

and thus

ٱلۡيَوۡمَ

yawma

today

تُنسَىٰ

tuñsaa.

you will be forgotten

١٢٦

20:127

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

Wa-kaẓaalika

And thus

نَجۡزِي

najzee

We recompense

مَنۡ

man

(he) who

أَسۡرَفَ

ʹasrafa

transgresses

وَلَمۡ

wa-lam

and not

يُؤۡمِنۢ

yuʹmim

believes

بِـَٔايَٰتِ

biʹAayaati

in (the) Signs

رَبِّهِۦۚ

Rabbih:

(of) his Lord

وَلَعَذَابُ

wa-laʻaẓaabul

And surely (the) punishment

ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ

ʹAakhirati

(of) the Hereafter

أَشَدُّ

ʹashaddu

(is) more severe

وَأَبۡقَىٰٓ

wa-ʹabq̣aa.

and more lasting

١٢٧

20:128

أَفَلَمۡ

ʹAfalam

Then has not

يَهۡدِ

yahdi

it guided

لَهُمۡ

lahum

[for] them

كَمۡ

kam

how many

أَهۡلَكۡنَا

ʹahlaknaa

We (have) destroyed

قَبۡلَهُم

q̣ablahum

before them

مِّنَ

minal

ٱلۡقُرُونِ

q̣urooni

the generations

يَمۡشُونَ

yamshoona

(as) they walk

فِي

fee

مَسَٰكِنِهِمۡۚ

masaakinihim?

their dwellings

إِنَّ

ʹInna

Indeed

فِي

fee

ذَٰلِكَ

ẓaalika

that

لَأٓيَٰتٖ

laʹAayaatil

surely (are) Signs

لِّأُوْلِي

liʹulin

for possessors

ٱلنُّهَىٰ

nuhaa.

(of) intelligence

١٢٨

20:129

وَلَوۡلَا

Wa-lawlaa

And if not

كَلِمَةٞ

Kalimatuñ

(for) a Word

سَبَقَتۡ

sabaq̣at

(that) preceded

مِن

mir

from

رَّبِّكَ

Rabbika

your Lord

لَكَانَ

lakaana

surely (would) have been

لِزَامٗا

lizaamañw

an obligation

وَأَجَلٞ

waʹajalum

and a term

مُّسَمّٗى

musammaa.

determined

١٢٩

20:130

فَٱصۡبِرۡ

Faṣbir

So be patient

عَلَىٰ

ʻalaa

over

مَا

maa-

what

يَقُولُونَ

yaq̣ooloona

they say

وَسَبِّحۡ

wa-sabbiḥ

and glorify

بِحَمۡدِ

bi-Ḥamdi

with praise

رَبِّكَ

Rabbika

(of) your Lord

قَبۡلَ

q̣abla

before

طُلُوعِ

ṭulooʻish

(the) rising

ٱلشَّمۡسِ

shamsi

(of) the sun

وَقَبۡلَ

wa-q̣abla

and before

غُرُوبِهَاۖ

g̣uroobihaa;

its setting

وَمِنۡ

wa-min

and from

ءَانَآيِٕ

ʹaanaaaʹil

(the) hours

ٱلَّيۡلِ

layli

(of) the night

فَسَبِّحۡ

fasabbiḥ

and glorify

وَأَطۡرَافَ

wa-ʹaṭraafan

(at the) ends

ٱلنَّهَارِ

nahaari

(of) the day

لَعَلَّكَ

laʻallaka

so that you may

تَرۡضَىٰ

tarḍaa.

be satisfied

١٣٠

20:131

وَلَا

Wa-laa

And (do) not

تَمُدَّنَّ

tamuddanna

extend

عَيۡنَيۡكَ

ʹaynayka

your eyes

إِلَىٰ

ʹilaa

towards

مَا

maa-

what

مَتَّعۡنَا

mattaʻnaa

We have given for enjoyment

بِهِۦٓ

biheee

[with it]

أَزۡوَٰجٗا

ʹazwaajam

pairs

مِّنۡهُمۡ

minhum

of them

زَهۡرَةَ

zahratal

(the) splendor

ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ

ḥayaatid

(of) the life

ٱلدُّنۡيَا

dunyaa,

(of) the world

لِنَفۡتِنَهُمۡ

linaftinahum

that We may test them

فِيهِۚ

feeh:

in it

وَرِزۡقُ

wa-rizq̣u

And (the) provision

رَبِّكَ

Rabbika

(of) your Lord

خَيۡرٞ

khayruñw

(is) better

وَأَبۡقَىٰ

waʹabq̣aa.

and more lasting

١٣١

20:132

وَأۡمُرۡ

Waʹmur

And enjoin

أَهۡلَكَ

ʹahlaka

(on) your family

بِٱلصَّلَوٰةِ

biṣ-Ṣalaati

the prayer

وَٱصۡطَبِرۡ

waṣṭabir

and be steadfast

عَلَيۡهَاۖ

ʻalayhaa.

therein

لَا

Laa-

Not

نَسۡـَٔلُكَ

nasʹaluka

We ask you

رِزۡقٗاۖ

rizq̣aa:

(for) provision

نَّحۡنُ

Naḥnu

نَرۡزُقُكَۗ

narzuq̣uk.

provide (for) you

وَٱلۡعَٰقِبَةُ

Wal-ʻAaq̣ibatu

and the outcome

لِلتَّقۡوَىٰ

lit-Taq̣waa.

(is) for the righteous[ness]

١٣٢

20:133

وَقَالُواْ

Wa-q̣aaloo

And they say

لَوۡلَا

Law-laa

Why not

يَأۡتِينَا

yaʹteenaa

he brings us

بِـَٔايَةٖ

biʹAayatim

a sign

مِّن

mir

from

رَّبِّهِۦٓۚ

Rabbih?

his Lord

أَوَلَمۡ

ʹA-walam

Has not

تَأۡتِهِم

taʹtihim̃

come to them

بَيِّنَةُ

Bayyinatu

evidence

مَا

maa-

(of) what

فِي

fiṣ

(was) in

ٱلصُّحُفِ

Ṣuḥufil

the Scriptures

ٱلۡأُولَىٰ

ʹoolaa?

the former

١٣٣

20:134

وَلَوۡ

Wa-law

And if

أَنَّآ

ʹannaaa

أَهۡلَكۡنَٰهُم

ʹahlaknaahum̃

(had) destroyed them

بِعَذَابٖ

biʻaẓaabim

with a punishment

مِّن

miñ

before him

قَبۡلِهِۦ

q̣ablihee

before him

لَقَالُواْ

laq̣aaloo

surely they (would) have said

رَبَّنَا

Rabbanaa

Our Lord

لَوۡلَآ

Law-laaa

why not

أَرۡسَلۡتَ

ʹarsalta

You sent

إِلَيۡنَا

ʹilaynaa

to us

رَسُولٗا

Rasoolañ

a Messenger

فَنَتَّبِعَ

fanattabiʻa

so we (could) have followed

ءَايَٰتِكَ

ʹAayaatika

Your signs

مِن

Miñ

before

قَبۡلِ

q̣abli

before

أَن

ʹan

[that]

نَّذِلَّ

naẓilla

we were humiliated

وَنَخۡزَىٰ

wa-nakhzaa.

and disgraced

١٣٤

20:135

قُلۡ

Q̣ul

Say

كُلّٞ

kullum

Each

مُّتَرَبِّصٞ

mutarabbiṣuñ

(is) waiting

فَتَرَبَّصُواْۖ

fatarabbaṣoo:

so await

فَسَتَعۡلَمُونَ

fasataʻlamoona

Then you will know

مَنۡ

man

who

أَصۡحَٰبُ

ʹAṣḥaabuṣ

(are the) companions

ٱلصِّرَٰطِ

Ṣiraaṭis

(of) the way

ٱلسَّوِيِّ

sawiyyi

[the] even

وَمَنِ

wa-manih

and who

ٱهۡتَدَىٰ

tadaa.

is guided

١٣٥
