1:1بِسۡمِbis'miIn (the) nameٱللَّهِal-lahi(of) Allahٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِal-rahmanithe Most Graciousٱلرَّحِيمِal-rahimithe Most Merciful١
1:2ٱلۡحَمۡدُal-hamduAll praises and thanksلِلَّهِlillahi(be) to Allahرَبِّrabbithe Lordٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَal-'alaminaof the universe٢
1:5إِيَّاكَiyyakaYou Aloneنَعۡبُدُna'buduwe worshipوَإِيَّاكَwa-iyyakaand You Aloneنَسۡتَعِينُnasta'inuwe ask for help٥
1:7صِرَٰطَsirata(The) pathٱلَّذِينَalladhina(of) thoseأَنۡعَمۡتَan'amtaYou have bestowed (Your) Favorsعَلَيۡهِمۡalayhimon themغَيۡرِghayrinot (of)ٱلۡمَغۡضُوبِal-maghdubithose who earned (Your) wrathعَلَيۡهِمۡalayhimon themselvesوَلَاwalaand notٱلضَّآلِّينَal-dalina(of) those who go astray٧
2:2ذَٰلِكَdhalikaThatٱلۡكِتَٰبُal-kitabu(is) the bookلَاlanoرَيۡبَۛraybadoubtفِيهِۛfihiin itهُدٗىhudana Guidanceلِّلۡمُتَّقِينَlil'muttaqinafor the God-conscious٢
2:3ٱلَّذِينَalladhinaThose whoيُؤۡمِنُونَyu'minunabelieveبِٱلۡغَيۡبِbil-ghaybiin the unseenوَيُقِيمُونَwayuqimunaand establishٱلصَّلَوٰةَal-salatathe prayerوَمِمَّاwamimmaand out of whatرَزَقۡنَٰهُمۡrazaqnahumWe have provided themيُنفِقُونَyunfiqunathey spend٣
2:4وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhinaAnd those whoيُؤۡمِنُونَyu'minunabelieveبِمَآbimain whatأُنزِلَunzila(is) sent downإِلَيۡكَilaykato youوَمَآwamaand whatأُنزِلَunzilawas sent downمِنminfromقَبۡلِكَqablikabefore youوَبِٱلۡأٓخِرَةِwabil-akhiratiand in the Hereafterهُمۡhumtheyيُوقِنُونَyuqinunafirmly believe٤
2:5أُوْلَٰٓئِكَulaikaThoseعَلَىٰala(are) onهُدٗىhudanGuidanceمِّنminfromرَّبِّهِمۡۖrabbihimtheir Lordوَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَwa-ulaikaand those هُمُhumutheyٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَal-muf'lihuna(are) the successful ones٥
2:6إِنَّinnaIndeedٱلَّذِينَalladhinathose whoكَفَرُواْkafarudisbelieve[d]سَوَآءٌsawaon(it) is sameعَلَيۡهِمۡalayhimto themءَأَنذَرۡتَهُمۡa-andhartahumwhether you warn themأَمۡamorلَمۡlamnotتُنذِرۡهُمۡtundhir'humyou warn themلَاlanotيُؤۡمِنُونَyu'minunathey believe٦
2:7خَتَمَkhatamaHas set a sealٱللَّهُal-lahuAllahعَلَىٰalaonقُلُوبِهِمۡqulubihimtheir heartsوَعَلَىٰwa'alaand onسَمۡعِهِمۡۖsam'ihimtheir hearingوَعَلَىٰٓwa'alaand onأَبۡصَٰرِهِمۡabsarihimtheir visionغِشَٰوَةٞۖghishawatun(is) a veilوَلَهُمۡwalahumAnd for themعَذَابٌadhabun(is) a punishmentعَظِيمٞazimungreat٧
2:8وَمِنَwaminaAnd ofٱلنَّاسِal-nasithe peopleمَنman(are some) whoيَقُولُyaqulusayءَامَنَّاamannaWe believedبِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَبِٱلۡيَوۡمِwabil-yawmiand in the Dayٱلۡأٓخِرِal-akhiri[the] Lastوَمَاwamabut notهُمhumtheyبِمُؤۡمِنِينَbimu'minina(are) believers (at all)٨
2:9يُخَٰدِعُونَyukhadi'unaThey seek to deceiveٱللَّهَal-lahaAllahوَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhinaand those whoءَامَنُواْamanubelieve[d]وَمَاwamaand notيَخۡدَعُونَyakhda'unathey deceiveإِلَّآillaexceptأَنفُسَهُمۡanfusahumthemselvesوَمَاwamaand notيَشۡعُرُونَyash'urunathey realize (it)٩
2:10فِيfiInقُلُوبِهِمqulubihimtheir heartsمَّرَضٞmaradun(is) a diseaseفَزَادَهُمُfazadahumuso has increased themٱللَّهُal-lahuAllahمَرَضٗاۖmaradan(in) diseaseوَلَهُمۡwalahumand for themعَذَابٌadhabun(is) a punishmentأَلِيمُۢalimunpainfulبِمَاbimabecauseكَانُواْkanuthey used toيَكۡذِبُونَyakdhibuna[they] lie١٠
2:11وَإِذَاwa-idhaAnd whenقِيلَqilait is saidلَهُمۡlahumto themلَاla(Do) notتُفۡسِدُواْtuf'siduspread corruptionفِيfiinٱلۡأَرۡضِal-ardithe earthقَالُوٓاْqaluthey sayإِنَّمَاinnamaOnlyنَحۡنُnahnuweمُصۡلِحُونَmus'lihuna(are) reformers١١
2:12أَلَآalaBewareإِنَّهُمۡinnahumindeed theyهُمُhumuthemselvesٱلۡمُفۡسِدُونَal-muf'siduna(are) the ones who spread corruptionوَلَٰكِنwalakin[and] butلَّاlanotيَشۡعُرُونَyash'urunathey realize (it)١٢
2:13وَإِذَاwa-idhaAnd whenقِيلَqilait is saidلَهُمۡlahumto themءَامِنُواْaminuBelieveكَمَآkamaasءَامَنَamanabelievedٱلنَّاسُal-nasuthe peopleقَالُوٓاْqaluthey sayأَنُؤۡمِنُanu'minuShould we believeكَمَآkamaasءَامَنَamanabelievedٱلسُّفَهَآءُۗal-sufahauthe foolsأَلَآalaBewareإِنَّهُمۡinnahumcertainly theyهُمُhumuthemselvesٱلسُّفَهَآءُal-sufahau(are) the foolsوَلَٰكِنwalakin[and] butلَّاlanotيَعۡلَمُونَya'lamunathey know١٣
2:14وَإِذَاwa-idhaAnd whenلَقُواْlaquthey meetٱلَّذِينَalladhinathose whoءَامَنُواْamanubelieve[d]قَالُوٓاْqaluthey sayءَامَنَّاamannaWe believe[d]وَإِذَاwa-idhaBut whenخَلَوۡاْkhalawthey are aloneإِلَىٰilawithشَيَٰطِينِهِمۡshayatinihimtheir evil onesقَالُوٓاْqaluthey sayإِنَّاinnaIndeed weمَعَكُمۡma'akum(are) with youإِنَّمَاinnamaonlyنَحۡنُnahnuweمُسۡتَهۡزِءُونَmus'tahziuna(are) mockers١٤
2:15ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllahيَسۡتَهۡزِئُyastahzi-umocksبِهِمۡbihimat themوَيَمُدُّهُمۡwayamudduhumand prolongs themفِيfiinطُغۡيَٰنِهِمۡtugh'yanihimtheir transgressionيَعۡمَهُونَya'mahunathey wander blindly١٥
2:16أُوْلَٰٓئِكَulaikaThoseٱلَّذِينَalladhina(are) the ones whoٱشۡتَرَوُاْish'tarawuboughtٱلضَّلَٰلَةَal-dalalata[the] astrayingبِٱلۡهُدَىٰbil-hudafor [the] guidanceفَمَاfamaSo notرَبِحَتrabihatprofitedتِّجَٰرَتُهُمۡtijaratuhumtheir commerceوَمَاwamaand notكَانُواْkanuwere theyمُهۡتَدِينَmuh'tadinaguided-ones١٦
2:17مَثَلُهُمۡmathaluhumTheir exampleكَمَثَلِkamathali(is) like (the) exampleٱلَّذِيalladhi(of) the one whoٱسۡتَوۡقَدَis'tawqadakindledنَارٗاnarana fireفَلَمَّآfalammathen whenأَضَآءَتۡadaatit illuminatedمَاmawhatحَوۡلَهُۥhawlahu(was) around himذَهَبَdhahabatook awayٱللَّهُal-lahuAllahبِنُورِهِمۡbinurihimtheir lightوَتَرَكَهُمۡwatarakahumand left themفِيfiinظُلُمَٰتٖzulumatindarkness[es]لَّاla(so) notيُبۡصِرُونَyub'siruna(do) they see١٧
2:18صُمُّۢsummunDeafبُكۡمٌbuk'mundumbعُمۡيٞum'yunblindفَهُمۡfahumso theyلَاlanotيَرۡجِعُونَyarji'una[they] will not return١٨
2:19أَوۡawOrكَصَيِّبٖkasayyibinlike a rainstormمِّنَminafromٱلسَّمَآءِal-samaithe skyفِيهِfihiin it (are)ظُلُمَٰتٞzulumatundarkness[es]وَرَعۡدٞwara'dunand thunderوَبَرۡقٞwabarqunand lightningيَجۡعَلُونَyaj'alunaThey putأَصَٰبِعَهُمۡasabi'ahumtheir fingersفِيٓfiinءَاذَانِهِمadhanihimtheir earsمِّنَminafromٱلصَّوَٰعِقِal-sawa'iqithe thunderclapsحَذَرَhadhara(in) fear (of)ٱلۡمَوۡتِۚal-mawti[the] deathوَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahمُحِيطُۢmuhitun(is) [the One Who] encompassesبِٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَbil-kafirinathe disbelievers١٩
2:20يَكَادُyakaduAlmostٱلۡبَرۡقُal-barquthe lightningيَخۡطَفُyakhtafusnatches awayأَبۡصَٰرَهُمۡۖabsarahumtheir sightكُلَّمَآkullamaWheneverأَضَآءَadaait flashesلَهُمlahumfor themمَّشَوۡاْmashawthey walkفِيهِfihiin itوَإِذَآwa-idhaand whenأَظۡلَمَazlamait darkensعَلَيۡهِمۡalayhimon themقَامُواْۚqamuthey stand (still)وَلَوۡwalawAnd ifشَآءَshaahad willedٱللَّهُal-lahuAllahلَذَهَبَladhahabaHe would certainly have taken awayبِسَمۡعِهِمۡbisam'ihimtheir hearingوَأَبۡصَٰرِهِمۡۚwa-absarihimand their sightإِنَّinnaIndeedٱللَّهَal-lahaAllahعَلَىٰala(is) onكُلِّkullieveryشَيۡءٖshayinthingقَدِيرٞqadirunAll-Powerful٢٠
2:21يَٰٓأَيُّهَاyaayyuhaOٱلنَّاسُal-nasumankindٱعۡبُدُواْu'buduworshipرَبَّكُمُrabbakumuyour Lordٱلَّذِيalladhithe One Whoخَلَقَكُمۡkhalaqakumcreated youوَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhinaand thoseمِنminfromقَبۡلِكُمۡqablikumbefore youلَعَلَّكُمۡla'allakumso that you mayتَتَّقُونَtattaqunabecome righteous٢١
2:22ٱلَّذِيalladhiThe One Whoجَعَلَja'alamadeلَكُمُlakumufor youٱلۡأَرۡضَal-ardathe earthفِرَٰشٗاfirashana resting placeوَٱلسَّمَآءَwal-samaaand the skyبِنَآءٗbinaana canopyوَأَنزَلَwa-anzalaand sent downمِنَminafromٱلسَّمَآءِal-samaithe skyمَآءٗmaanwaterفَأَخۡرَجَfa-akhrajathen brought forthبِهِۦbihitherewithمِنَmina[of]ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِal-thamaratithe fruitsرِزۡقٗاriz'qan(as) provisionلَّكُمۡۖlakumfor youفَلَاfalaSo (do) notتَجۡعَلُواْtaj'aluset upلِلَّهِlillahito Allahأَندَادٗاandadanrivalsوَأَنتُمۡwa-antumwhile youتَعۡلَمُونَta'lamuna[you] know٢٢
2:23وَإِنwa-inAnd ifكُنتُمۡkuntumyou areفِيfiinرَيۡبٖraybindoubtمِّمَّاmimmaabout whatنَزَّلۡنَاnazzalnaWe have revealedعَلَىٰalatoعَبۡدِنَاabdinaOur slaveفَأۡتُواْfatuthen produceبِسُورَةٖbisuratina chapterمِّنmin[of]مِّثۡلِهِۦmith'lihilike itوَٱدۡعُواْwa-id'uand callشُهَدَآءَكُمshuhadaakumyour witnessesمِّنminfromدُونِduniother thanٱللَّهِal-lahiAllahإِنinifكُنتُمۡkuntumyou areصَٰدِقِينَsadiqinatruthful٢٣
2:24فَإِنfa-inBut ifلَّمۡlamnotتَفۡعَلُواْtaf 'aluyou doوَلَنwalanand neverتَفۡعَلُواْtaf 'aluwill you doفَٱتَّقُواْfa-ittaquthen fearٱلنَّارَal-narathe Fireٱلَّتِيallatiwhoseوَقُودُهَاwaquduha[its] fuelٱلنَّاسُal-nasu(is) [the] menوَٱلۡحِجَارَةُۖwal-hijaratuand [the] stonesأُعِدَّتۡu'iddatpreparedلِلۡكَٰفِرِينَlil'kafirinafor the disbelievers٢٤
2:25وَبَشِّرِwabashiriAnd give good newsٱلَّذِينَalladhina(to) those whoءَامَنُواْamanubelieveوَعَمِلُواْwa'amiluand doٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِal-salihati[the] righteous deedsأَنَّannathatلَهُمۡlahumfor themجَنَّٰتٖjannatin(will be) Gardensتَجۡرِيtajriflowمِنmin[from]تَحۡتِهَاtahtihaunder themٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُۖal-anharuthe riversكُلَّمَاkullamaEvery timeرُزِقُواْruziquthey are providedمِنۡهَاmin'hatherefromمِنminofثَمَرَةٖthamaratinfruitرِّزۡقٗاriz'qan(as) provisionقَالُواْqaluthey (will) sayهَٰذَاhadhaThis (is)ٱلَّذِيalladhithe one whichرُزِقۡنَاruziq'nawe were providedمِنminfromقَبۡلُۖqablubeforeوَأُتُواْwa-utuAnd they will be givenبِهِۦbihitherefromمُتَشَٰبِهٗاۖmutashabihan(things) in resemblanceوَلَهُمۡwalahumAnd for themفِيهَآfihathereinأَزۡوَٰجٞazwajunspousesمُّطَهَّرَةٞۖmutahharatunpurifiedوَهُمۡwahumand theyفِيهَاfihathereinخَٰلِدُونَkhaliduna(will) abide forever٢٥
