عَبۡدَنَا
ʻAbdanaa
Our slave
دَاوُۥدَ
Daawooda
Dawood
ذَا
Ẓal
the possessor of strength
ٱلۡأَيۡدِۖ
ʹayd:
the possessor of strength
إِنَّهُۥٓ
ʹinnahooo
Indeed he (was)
أَوَّابٌ
ʹawwaab.
repeatedly turning

38:18
إِنَّا
ʹInnaa
Indeed We
سَخَّرۡنَا
sakhkharnal
subjected
ٱلۡجِبَالَ
jibaala
the mountains
مَعَهُۥ
maʻahoo
with him
يُسَبِّحۡنَ
yusabbiḥna
glorifying
بِٱلۡعَشِيِّ
bilʻashiyyi
in the evening
وَٱلۡإِشۡرَاقِ
wal-ʹishraaq̣,
and [the] sunrise

38:19
وَٱلطَّيۡرَ
Waṭṭayra
And the birds
مَحۡشُورَةٗۖ
maḥshoorah:
assembled
كُلّٞ
kullul
all
لَّهُۥٓ
lahooo
with him
أَوَّابٞ
ʹawwaab.
repeatedly turning
١٩
38:20
وَشَدَدۡنَا
Wa-shadadnaa
And We strengthened
مُلۡكَهُۥ
mulkahoo
his kingdom
وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُ
wa-ʹaataynaahul
and We gave him
ٱلۡحِكۡمَةَ
ḥikmata
[the] wisdom
وَفَصۡلَ
wa-faṣlal
and decisive
ٱلۡخِطَابِ
khiṭaab.
speech

38:21
۞وَهَلۡ
Wa-hal
And has (there)
أَتَىٰكَ
ʹataaka
come to you
نَبَؤُاْ
nabaʹul
(the) news
ٱلۡخَصۡمِ
khaṣm?
(of) the litigants
إِذۡ
ʹIẓ
when
تَسَوَّرُواْ
tasawwarul
they climbed over the wall
ٱلۡمِحۡرَابَ
miḥraab;
(of) the chamber

38:22
إِذۡ
ʹIẓ
When
دَخَلُواْ
dakhaloo
they entered
عَلَىٰ
ʻalaa
upon
دَاوُۥدَ
Daawooda
Dawood
فَفَزِعَ
fafaziʻa
and he was afraid
مِنۡهُمۡۖ
minhum
of them
قَالُواْ
q̣aaloo
they said
لَا
laa-
(Do) not
تَخَفۡۖ
takhaf:
fear
خَصۡمَانِ
khaṣmaani
(We are) two litigants
بَغَىٰ
bag̣aa
has wronged
بَعۡضُنَا
baʻḍunaa
one of us
عَلَىٰ
ʻalaa
to
بَعۡضٖ
baʻḍiñ
another
فَٱحۡكُم
faḥkum̃
so judge
بَيۡنَنَا
baynanaa
between us
بِٱلۡحَقِّ
bilḥaq̣q̣i
in truth
وَلَا
wa-laa
and (do) not
تُشۡطِطۡ
tushṭiṭ
be unjust
وَٱهۡدِنَآ
wahdinaaa
and guide us
إِلَىٰ
ʹilaa
to
سَوَآءِ
sawaaaʹiṣ
an even
ٱلصِّرَٰطِ
ṣiraaṭ...
[the] path
٢٢
38:23
إِنَّ
ʹInna
Indeed
هَٰذَآ
haaẓaaa
this
أَخِي
ʹakhee:
(is) my brother
لَهُۥ
lahoo
he has
تِسۡعٞ
tisʻuñw
ninety-nine
وَتِسۡعُونَ
watisʻoona
ninety-nine
نَعۡجَةٗ
naʻjatañw
ewe(s)
وَلِيَ
waliya
while I have
نَعۡجَةٞ
naʻjatuñw
ewe
وَٰحِدَةٞ
waaḥidah:
one
فَقَالَ
faq̣aala
so he said
أَكۡفِلۡنِيهَا
ʹakfilneehaa
Entrust her to me
وَعَزَّنِي
wa-ʻazzanee
and he overpowered me
فِي
fil
in
ٱلۡخِطَابِ
khiṭaab.
[the] speech
٢٣
38:24
قَالَ
Q̣aala
He said
لَقَدۡ
laq̣ad
Certainly
ظَلَمَكَ
z̤̣alamaka
he has wronged you
بِسُؤَالِ
bisuʹaali
by demanding
نَعۡجَتِكَ
naʻjatika
your ewe
إِلَىٰ
ʹilaa
to
نِعَاجِهِۦۖ
niʻaajih:
his ewes
وَإِنَّ
wa-ʹinna
And indeed
كَثِيرٗا
kas̤eeram
many
مِّنَ
minal
of
ٱلۡخُلَطَآءِ
khulaṭaaaʹi
the partners
لَيَبۡغِي
layabg̣ee
certainly oppress
بَعۡضُهُمۡ
baʻḍuhum
some of them
عَلَىٰ
ʻalaa
[on]
بَعۡضٍ
baʻḍin
another
إِلَّا
ʹillal
except
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
those who
ءَامَنُواْ
ʹaamanoo
believe
وَعَمِلُواْ
wa-ʻamiluṣ
and do
ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ
ṣaaliḥaati
righteous deeds
وَقَلِيلٞ
wa-q̣aleelum
and few
مَّا
maa
(are) they
هُمۡۗ
hum!
(are) they
وَظَنَّ
Wa-z̤̣anna
And became certain
دَاوُۥدُ
Daawoodu
Dawood
أَنَّمَا
ʹannamaa
that
فَتَنَّٰهُ
fatannaahu
We (had) tried him
فَٱسۡتَغۡفَرَ
fastag̣fara
and he asked forgiveness
رَبَّهُۥ
Rabbahoo
(of) his Lord
وَخَرَّۤ
wa-kharra
and fell down
رَاكِعٗاۤ
raakiʻañw
bowing
وَأَنَابَ۩
waʹanaab.
and turned in repentance
٢٤
38:25
فَغَفَرۡنَا
Fag̣afarnaa
So We forgave
لَهُۥ
lahoo
for him
ذَٰلِكَۖ
ẓaalik:
that
وَإِنَّ
wa-ʹinna
And indeed
لَهُۥ
lahoo
for him
عِندَنَا
ʻiñdanaa
with Us
لَزُلۡفَىٰ
lazulfaa
surely is a near access
وَحُسۡنَ
wa-ḥusna
and a good
مَـَٔابٖ
maʹaab.
place of return

38:26
يَٰدَاوُۥدُ
Yaa-Daawoodu
O Dawood
إِنَّا
ʹinnaa
Indeed We
جَعَلۡنَٰكَ
jaʻalnaaka
[We] have made you
خَلِيفَةٗ
Khaleefatañ
a vicegerent
فِي
fil
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
ʹarḍi
the earth
فَٱحۡكُم
faḥkum̃
so judge
بَيۡنَ
baynan
between
ٱلنَّاسِ
naasi
[the] men
بِٱلۡحَقِّ
bilḥaq̣q̣i
in truth
وَلَا
wa-laa
and (do) not
تَتَّبِعِ
tattabiʻil
follow
ٱلۡهَوَىٰ
hawaa
the desire
فَيُضِلَّكَ
fayuḍillaka
for it will lead you astray
عَن
ʻañ
from
سَبِيلِ
Sabeelil
(the) way
ٱللَّهِۚ
laah:
(of) Allah
إِنَّ
ʹinnal
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
those who
يَضِلُّونَ
yaḍilloona
go astray
عَن
ʻañ
from
سَبِيلِ
Sabeelil
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
laahi
(of) Allah
لَهُمۡ
lahum
for them
عَذَابٞ
ʻaẓaabuñ
(is) a punishment
شَدِيدُۢ
shadeedum
severe
بِمَا
bimaa
because
نَسُواْ
nasoo
they forgot
يَوۡمَ
Yawmal
(the) Day
ٱلۡحِسَابِ
Ḥisaab.
(of) Account
