31:12
وَلَقَدۡ
Wa-laq̣ad
And verily
ءَاتَيۡنَا
ʹaataynaa
We gave
لُقۡمَٰنَ
Luq̣maanal
Luqman
ٱلۡحِكۡمَةَ
Ḥikmata
the wisdom
أَنِ
ʹanish
that
ٱشۡكُرۡ
kur
Be grateful
لِلَّهِۚ
lillaah.
to Allah
وَمَن
Wa-mañy
And whoever
يَشۡكُرۡ
yashkur
(is) grateful
فَإِنَّمَا
faʹinnamaa
then only
يَشۡكُرُ
yashkuru
he is grateful
لِنَفۡسِهِۦۖ
linafsih:
for himself
وَمَن
wa-mañ
And whoever
كَفَرَ
kafara
(is) ungrateful
فَإِنَّ
faʹinnal
then indeed
ٱللَّهَ
laaha
Allah
غَنِيٌّ
G̣aniyyun
(is) Free of need
حَمِيدٞ
Ḥameed.
Praiseworthy
١٢
31:13
وَإِذۡ
Wa-ʹiẓ
And when
قَالَ
q̣aala
said
لُقۡمَٰنُ
Luq̣maanu
Luqman
لِٱبۡنِهِۦ
libnihee
to his son
وَهُوَ
wa-huwa
while he
يَعِظُهُۥ
yaʻiz̤̣uhoo
(was) instructing him
يَٰبُنَيَّ
yaabunayya
O my son
لَا
laa-
(Do) not
تُشۡرِكۡ
tushrik
associate partners
بِٱللَّهِۖ
billaah.
with Allah
إِنَّ
ʹInnash
Indeed
ٱلشِّرۡكَ
shirka
associating partners
لَظُلۡمٌ
laz̤̣ulmun
(is) surely an injustice
عَظِيمٞ
ʻaz̤̣eem.
great
١٣
31:14
وَوَصَّيۡنَا
Wa-waṣṣaynal
And We have enjoined
ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ
ʹiñsaana
(upon) man
بِوَٰلِدَيۡهِ
biwaalidayh:
for his parents
حَمَلَتۡهُ
ḥamalathu
carried him
أُمُّهُۥ
ʹummuhoo
his mother
وَهۡنًا
wahnan
(in) weakness
عَلَىٰ
ʻalaa
upon
وَهۡنٖ
wahniñw
weakness
وَفِصَٰلُهُۥ
wafiṣaaluhoo
and his weaning
فِي
fee
(is) in
عَامَيۡنِ
ʻaamayni
two years
أَنِ
ʹanish
that
ٱشۡكُرۡ
kur
Be grateful
لِي
lee
to Me
وَلِوَٰلِدَيۡكَ
waliwaalidayka
and to your parents
إِلَيَّ
ʹilayyal
towards Me
ٱلۡمَصِيرُ
Maṣeer.
(is) the destination
١٤
31:15
وَإِن
Wa-ʹiñ
But if
جَٰهَدَاكَ
jaahadaaka
they strive against you
عَلَىٰٓ
ʻalaaa
on
أَن
ʹañ
that
تُشۡرِكَ
tushrika
you associate partners
بِي
bee
with Me
مَا
maa-
what
لَيۡسَ
laysa
not
لَكَ
laka
you have
بِهِۦ
bihee
of it
عِلۡمٞ
ʻilmuñ
any knowledge
فَلَا
falaa
then (do) not
تُطِعۡهُمَاۖ
tuṭiʻhumaa
obey both of them
وَصَاحِبۡهُمَا
waṣaaḥibhumaa
But accompany them
فِي
fid
in
ٱلدُّنۡيَا
dunyaa
the world
مَعۡرُوفٗاۖ
maʻroofañw
(with) kindness
وَٱتَّبِعۡ
wattabiʻ
and follow
سَبِيلَ
sabeela
(the) path
مَنۡ
man
(of him) who
أَنَابَ
ʹanaaba
turns
إِلَيَّۚ
ʹilayy:
to Me
ثُمَّ
s̤umma
Then
إِلَيَّ
ʹilayya
towards Me
مَرۡجِعُكُمۡ
marjiʻukum
(is) your return
فَأُنَبِّئُكُم
faʹunabbiʹukum̃
then I will inform you
بِمَا
bimaa
of what
كُنتُمۡ
kuñtum
you used (to)
تَعۡمَلُونَ
taʻmaloon.
do
١٥
31:16
يَٰبُنَيَّ
Yaabunayya
O my son
إِنَّهَآ
ʹinnahaaa
Indeed it
إِن
ʹiñ
if
تَكُ
taku
it be
مِثۡقَالَ
mis̤q̣aala
(the) weight
حَبَّةٖ
ḥabbatim
(of) a grain
مِّنۡ
min
of
خَرۡدَلٖ
khardaliñ
a mustard seed
فَتَكُن
fatakuñ
and it be
فِي
fee
in
صَخۡرَةٍ
ṣakhratin
a rock
أَوۡ
ʹaw
or
فِي
fis
in
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
samaawaati
the heavens
أَوۡ
ʹaw
or
فِي
fil
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
ʹarḍi
the earth
يَأۡتِ
yaʹti
Allah will bring it forth
بِهَا
bihal
Allah will bring it forth
ٱللَّهُۚ
laah:
Allah will bring it forth
إِنَّ
ʹinnal
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
laaha
Allah
لَطِيفٌ
Laṭeefun
(is) All-Subtle
خَبِيرٞ
Khabeer.
All-Aware
١٦
31:17
يَٰبُنَيَّ
Yaa
O my son
أَقِمِ
bunyya
Establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
ʹaq̣imiṣ-Ṣalaata
the prayer
وَأۡمُرۡ
waʹmur
and enjoin
بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ
bilmaʻroofi
[with] the right
وَٱنۡهَ
wanha
and forbid
عَنِ
ʻanil
from
ٱلۡمُنكَرِ
muñkari
the wrong
وَٱصۡبِرۡ
waṣbir
and be patient
عَلَىٰ
ʻalaa
over
مَآ
maaa
what
أَصَابَكَۖ
ʹaṣaabak:
befalls you
إِنَّ
ʹinna
Indeed
ذَٰلِكَ
ẓaalika
that
مِنۡ
min
(is) of
عَزۡمِ
ʻazmil
the matters requiring determination
ٱلۡأُمُورِ
ʹumoor.
the matters requiring determination
١٧
31:18
وَلَا
Wa-laa
And (do) not
تُصَعِّرۡ
tuṣaʻʻir
turn
خَدَّكَ
khaddaka
your cheek
لِلنَّاسِ
linnaasi
from men
وَلَا
wa-laa
and (do) not
تَمۡشِ
tamshi
walk
فِي
fil
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
ʹarḍi
the earth
مَرَحًاۖ
maraḥaa;
exultantly
إِنَّ
ʹInnal
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
laaha
Allah
لَا
laa-
(does) not
يُحِبُّ
yuḥibbu
like
كُلَّ
kulla
every
مُخۡتَالٖ
mukhtaaliñ
self-conceited
فَخُورٖ
fakhoor.
boaster
١٨
31:19
وَٱقۡصِدۡ
Waq̣ṣid
And be moderate
فِي
fee
in
مَشۡيِكَ
mashyika
your pace
وَٱغۡضُضۡ
wag̣ḍuḍ
and lower
مِن
miñ
[of]
صَوۡتِكَۚ
ṣawtik;
your voice
إِنَّ
ʹinna
Indeed
أَنكَرَ
ʹañkaral
(the) harshest
ٱلۡأَصۡوَٰتِ
ʹaṣwaati
(of all) sounds
لَصَوۡتُ
laṣawtul
(is) surely (the) voice
ٱلۡحَمِيرِ
ḥameer.
(of) the donkeys
