ٱلۡقِتَالُ

[the] fighting
وَهُوَ
wa-huwa
while it
كُرۡهٞ
kurhul
(is) hateful
لَّكُمۡۖ
lakum.
to you
وَعَسَىٰٓ
Wa-ʻasaaa
But perhaps
أَن
ʹañ
[that]
تَكۡرَهُواْ
takrahoo
you dislike
شَيۡـٔٗا
shayʹañw
a thing
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
and it
خَيۡرٞ
khayrul
(is) good
لَّكُمۡۖ
lakum.
for you
وَعَسَىٰٓ
Wa-ʻasaaa
and perhaps
أَن
ʹañ
[that]
تُحِبُّواْ
tuḥibboo
you love
شَيۡـٔٗا
shayʹañw
a thing
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
and it
شَرّٞ
sharrul
(is) bad
لَّكُمۡۚ
lakum.
for you
وَٱللَّهُ
Wallaahu
And Allah
يَعۡلَمُ
yaʻlamu
knows
وَأَنتُمۡ
wa-ʹañtum
while you
لَا
laa-
(do) not
تَعۡلَمُونَ
taʻlamoon.
know
٢١٦
2:217
يَسۡـَٔلُونَكَ
Yasʹaloonaka
They ask you
عَنِ
ʻanish
about
ٱلشَّهۡرِ
shahril
the month
ٱلۡحَرَامِ
Ḥaraami
[the] sacred
قِتَالٖ
q̣itaaliñ
(concerning) fighting
فِيهِۖ
feeh.
in it
قُلۡ
Q̣ul
Say
قِتَالٞ
q̣itaaluñ
Fighting
فِيهِ
feehi
therein
كَبِيرٞۚ
kabeer.
(is) a great (sin)
وَصَدٌّ
Wa-ṣaddun
but hindering (people)
عَن
ʻañ
from
سَبِيلِ
sabeelil
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
laahi
(of) Allah
وَكُفۡرُۢ
wa-kufrum
and disbelief
بِهِۦ
bihee
in Him
وَٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ
wal-Masjidil
and (preventing access to) Al-Masjid
ٱلۡحَرَامِ
Ḥaraami
Al-Haraam
وَإِخۡرَاجُ
wa-ʹikhraaju
and driving out
أَهۡلِهِۦ
ʹahlihee
its people
مِنۡهُ
minhu
from it
أَكۡبَرُ
ʹakbaru
(is) greater (sin)
عِندَ
ʻiñdal
near
ٱللَّهِۚ
laah.
Allah
وَٱلۡفِتۡنَةُ
Wal-fitnatu
And [the] oppression
أَكۡبَرُ
ʹakbaru
(is) greater
مِنَ
minal
than
ٱلۡقَتۡلِۗ
q̣atl.
[the] killing
وَلَا
Wa-laa
And not
يَزَالُونَ
yazaaloona
they will cease
يُقَٰتِلُونَكُمۡ
yuq̣aatiloonakum
(to) fight with you
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattaa
until
يَرُدُّوكُمۡ
yaruddookum
they turn you away
عَن
ʻañ
from
دِينِكُمۡ
Deenikum
your religion
إِنِ
ʹinis
if
ٱسۡتَطَٰعُواْۚ
taṭaaʻoo.
they are able
وَمَن
Wa-mañy
And whoever
يَرۡتَدِدۡ
yartadid
turns away
مِنكُمۡ
miñkum
among you
عَن
ʻañ
from
دِينِهِۦ
Deenihee
his religion
فَيَمُتۡ
fayamut
then dies
وَهُوَ
wa-huwa
while he
كَافِرٞ
kaafiruñ
(is) a disbeliever
فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ
faʹulaaaʹika
for those
حَبِطَتۡ
ḥabiṭat
became worthless
أَعۡمَٰلُهُمۡ
ʹaʻmaaluhum
their deeds
فِي
fid
in
ٱلدُّنۡيَا
dunyaa
the world
وَٱلۡأٓخِرَةِۖ
wal-ʹAakhirah.
and the Hereafter
وَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ
Wa-ʹulaaaʹika
And those
أَصۡحَٰبُ
ʹAṣḥaabun
(are) companions
ٱلنَّارِۖ
Naari
(of) the Fire
هُمۡ
hum
they
فِيهَا
feehaa
in it
خَٰلِدُونَ
khaalidoon.
(will) abide forever
٢١٧
2:218
إِنَّ
ʹInnal
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
those who
ءَامَنُواْ
ʹaamanoo
believed
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wallaẓeena
and those who
هَاجَرُواْ
haajaroo
emigrated
وَجَٰهَدُواْ
wa-jaahadoo
and strove
فِي
fee
in
سَبِيلِ
Sabeelil
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
laahi
(of) Allah
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ
ʹulaaaʹika
those
يَرۡجُونَ
yarjoona
they hope
رَحۡمَتَ
Raḥmatal
(for) Mercy
ٱللَّهِۚ
laah:
(of) Allah
وَٱللَّهُ
wallaahu
And Allah
غَفُورٞ
G̣afoorur
(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٞ
Raḥeem.
Most Merciful
٢١٨
2:219
۞يَسۡـَٔلُونَكَ
Yasʹaloonaka
They ask you
عَنِ
ʻanil
about
ٱلۡخَمۡرِ
khamri
[the] intoxicants
وَٱلۡمَيۡسِرِۖ
walmaysir.
and [the] games of chance
قُلۡ
Q̣ul
Say
فِيهِمَآ
feehimaaa
In both of them
إِثۡمٞ
ʹis̤muñ
(is) a sin
كَبِيرٞ
kabeeruñw
great
وَمَنَٰفِعُ
wamanaafiʻu
and (some) benefits
لِلنَّاسِ
linnaas:
for [the] people
وَإِثۡمُهُمَآ
Wa-ʹis̤muhumaaa
But sin of both of them
أَكۡبَرُ
ʹakbaru
(is) greater
مِن
min
than
نَّفۡعِهِمَاۗ
nafʻihimaa.
(the) benefit of (the) two
وَيَسۡـَٔلُونَكَ
Wa-Yasʹaloonaka
And they ask you
مَاذَا
maaẓaa
what
يُنفِقُونَۖ
yuñfiq̣oon.
they (should) spend
قُلِ
Q̣ulil
Say
ٱلۡعَفۡوَۗ
ʻafw.
The surplus
كَذَٰلِكَ
Kaẓaalika
Thus
يُبَيِّنُ
yubayyinul
makes clear
ٱللَّهُ
laahu
Allah
لَكُمُ
lakumul
to you
ٱلۡأٓيَٰتِ
ʹaayaati
[the] Verses
لَعَلَّكُمۡ
laʻallakum
so that you may
تَتَفَكَّرُونَ
tatafakkaroon
ponder
٢١٩
