[on it]
ءَابَآءَنَآۚ

our forefathers (following)
أَوَلَوۡ

Even though
كَانَ

[were]
ءَابَآؤُهُمۡ
abauhum
their forefathers
لَا
la
(did) not
يَعۡقِلُونَ
ya'qiluna
understand
شَيۡـٔٗا
shayan
anything
وَلَا
wala
and not
يَهۡتَدُونَ
yahtaduna
were they guided

2:171
وَمَثَلُ
wamathalu
And (the) example
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
(of) those who
كَفَرُواْ
kafaru
disbelieve[d]
كَمَثَلِ
kamathali
(is) like (the) example
ٱلَّذِي
alladhi
(of) the one who
يَنۡعِقُ
yan'iqu
shouts
بِمَا
bima
at what
لَا
la
not
يَسۡمَعُ
yasma'u
(does) hear
إِلَّا
illa
except
دُعَآءٗ
du'aan
calls
وَنِدَآءٗۚ
wanidaan
and cries
صُمُّۢ
summun
deaf
بُكۡمٌ
buk'mun
dumb
عُمۡيٞ
um'yun
(and) blind
فَهُمۡ
fahum
[so] they
لَا
la
(do) not
يَعۡقِلُونَ
ya'qiluna
understand
١٧١
2:172
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
yaayyuha
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
who
ءَامَنُواْ
amanu
believe[d]
كُلُواْ
kulu
Eat
مِن
min
from
طَيِّبَٰتِ
tayyibati
(the) good
مَا
ma
(of) what
رَزَقۡنَٰكُمۡ
razaqnakum
We have provided you
وَٱشۡكُرُواْ
wa-ush'kuru
and be grateful
لِلَّهِ
lillahi
to Allah
إِن
in
if
كُنتُمۡ
kuntum
you
إِيَّاهُ
iyyahu
alone
تَعۡبُدُونَ
ta'buduna
worship Him
١٧٢
2:173
إِنَّمَا
innama
Only
حَرَّمَ
harrama
He has forbidden
عَلَيۡكُمُ
alaykumu
to you
ٱلۡمَيۡتَةَ
al-maytata
the dead animals
وَٱلدَّمَ
wal-dama
and [the] blood
وَلَحۡمَ
walahma
and flesh
ٱلۡخِنزِيرِ
al-khinziri
(of) swine
وَمَآ
wama
and what
أُهِلَّ
uhilla
has been dedicated
بِهِۦ
bihi
[with it]
لِغَيۡرِ
lighayri
to other than
ٱللَّهِۖ
al-lahi
Allah
فَمَنِ
famani
So whoever
ٱضۡطُرَّ
ud'turra
(is) forced by necessity
غَيۡرَ
ghayra
without
بَاغٖ
baghin
(being) disobedient
وَلَا
wala
and not
عَادٖ
adin
transgressor
فَلَآ
fala
then no
إِثۡمَ
ith'ma
sin
عَلَيۡهِۚ
alayhi
on him
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
غَفُورٞ
ghafurun
(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌ
rahimun
Most Merciful
١٧٣
2:174
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
those who
يَكۡتُمُونَ
yaktumuna
conceal
مَآ
ma
what
أَنزَلَ
anzala
(has) revealed
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah (has)
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ
al-kitabi
the Book
وَيَشۡتَرُونَ
wayashtaruna
and they purchase
بِهِۦ
bihi
there with
ثَمَنٗا
thamanan
a gain
قَلِيلًا
qalilan
little
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ
ulaika
Those
مَا
ma
not
يَأۡكُلُونَ
yakuluna
they eat
فِي
fi
in
بُطُونِهِمۡ
butunihim
their bellies
إِلَّا
illa
except
ٱلنَّارَ
al-nara
the Fire
وَلَا
wala
And not
يُكَلِّمُهُمُ
yukallimuhumu
will speak to them
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah
يَوۡمَ
yawma
(on the) Day
ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ
al-qiyamati
(of) [the] Judgment
وَلَا
wala
and not
يُزَكِّيهِمۡ
yuzakkihim
will He purify them
وَلَهُمۡ
walahum
and for them
عَذَابٌ
adhabun
(is) a punishment
أَلِيمٌ
alimun
painful
١٧٤
2:175
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ
ulaika
Those
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
(are) they who
ٱشۡتَرَوُاْ
ish'tarawu
purchase[d]
ٱلضَّلَٰلَةَ
al-dalalata
[the] astraying
بِٱلۡهُدَىٰ
bil-huda
for [the] Guidance
وَٱلۡعَذَابَ
wal-'adhaba
and [the] punishment
بِٱلۡمَغۡفِرَةِۚ
bil-maghfirati
for [the] forgiveness
فَمَآ
fama
So what (is)
أَصۡبَرَهُمۡ
asbarahum
their endurance
عَلَى
ala
on
ٱلنَّارِ
al-nari
the Fire
١٧٥
2:176
ذَٰلِكَ
dhalika
That
بِأَنَّ
bi-anna
(is) because
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
نَزَّلَ
nazzala
revealed
ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ
al-kitaba
the Book
بِٱلۡحَقِّۗ
bil-haqi
with [the] Truth
وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
And indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
those
ٱخۡتَلَفُواْ
ikh'talafu
who differed
فِي
fi
in
ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ
al-kitabi
the Book
لَفِي
lafi
(are) surely in
شِقَاقِۭ
shiqaqin
schism
بَعِيدٖ
ba'idin
far
