7:164
وَإِذۡ
wa-ʹiẓ
And when
قَالَتۡ
q̣aalat
said
أُمَّةٞ
ʹummatum
a community
مِّنۡهُمۡ
minhum
among them
لِمَ
lima
Why
تَعِظُونَ
taʻiz̤̣oona
(do) you preach
قَوۡمًا
q̣aw-manil
a people
ٱللَّهُ
laahu
(whom) Allah
مُهۡلِكُهُمۡ
muhlikuhum
(is going to) destroy them
أَوۡ
ʹaw
or
مُعَذِّبُهُمۡ
muʻaẓẓibuhum
punish them
عَذَابٗا
ʻazaabañ
(with) a punishment
شَدِيدٗاۖ
shadeedaa?
severe
قَالُواْ
Q̣aaloo
They said
مَعۡذِرَةً
maʻẓiratan
To be absolved
إِلَىٰ
ʹilaa
before
رَبِّكُمۡ
Rabbikum
your Lord
وَلَعَلَّهُمۡ
wa-laʻallahum
and that they may
يَتَّقُونَ
yattaq̣oon.
become righteous
١٦٤
7:165
فَلَمَّا
Falammaa
So when
نَسُواْ
nasoo
they forgot
مَا
maa-
what
ذُكِّرُواْ
ẓukkiroo
they had been reminded
بِهِۦٓ
biheee
with [it]
أَنجَيۡنَا
ʹañjaynal
We saved
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
those who
يَنۡهَوۡنَ
yanhawna
forbade
عَنِ
ʻanis
[from]
ٱلسُّوٓءِ
soooʹi
the evil
وَأَخَذۡنَا
wa-ʹakhaẓnal
and We seized
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
those who
ظَلَمُواْ
z̤̣alamoo
wronged
بِعَذَابِۭ
biʻaẓaabim
with a punishment
بَـِٔيسِۭ
baʹeesim
wretched
بِمَا
bimaa
because
كَانُواْ
kaanoo
they were
يَفۡسُقُونَ
yafsuq̣oon.
defiantly disobeying
١٦٥
7:166
فَلَمَّا
Falammaa
So when
عَتَوۡاْ
ʻataw
they exceeded all bounds
عَن
ʻam
about
مَّا
maa
what
نُهُواْ
nuhoo
they were forbidden
عَنۡهُ
ʻanhu
from it
قُلۡنَا
q̣ulnaa
We said
لَهُمۡ
lahum
to them
كُونُواْ
koonoo
Be
قِرَدَةً
q̣iradatan
apes
خَٰسِـِٔينَ
khaasiʹeen.
despised
١٦٦
7:167
وَإِذۡ
Wa-ʹiẓ
And when
تَأَذَّنَ
taʹaẓẓana
declared
رَبُّكَ
Rabbuka
your Lord
لَيَبۡعَثَنَّ
layabʻas̤anna
that He would surely send
عَلَيۡهِمۡ
ʻalayhim
upon them
إِلَىٰ
ʹilaa
till
يَوۡمِ
yawmil
(the) Day
ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ
Q̣iyaamati
(of) the Resurrection
مَن
mañy
(those) who
يَسُومُهُمۡ
yasoomuhum
would afflict them
سُوٓءَ
soooʹal
(with) a grievous
ٱلۡعَذَابِۗ
ʻaẓaab.
[the] punishment
إِنَّ
ʹInna
Indeed
رَبَّكَ
rabbaka
your Lord
لَسَرِيعُ
la-Sareeʻul
(is) surely swift
ٱلۡعِقَابِ
ʻiq̣aabi
(in) the retribution
وَإِنَّهُۥ
wa-ʹinnahoo
but indeed He
لَغَفُورٞ
la-G̣afoorur
(is) surely Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٞ
Raḥeem.
Most Merciful
١٦٧
7:168
وَقَطَّعۡنَٰهُمۡ
Wa-q̣aṭṭaʻnaahum
And We divided them
فِي
fil
in
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
ʹarḍi
the earth
أُمَمٗاۖ
ʹumamaa.
(as) nations
مِّنۡهُمُ
Min-humuṣ
Among them
ٱلصَّٰلِحُونَ
ṣaaliḥoona
(are) the righteous
وَمِنۡهُمۡ
wa-minhum
and among them
دُونَ
doona
(are) other than
ذَٰلِكَۖ
ẓaalik.
that
وَبَلَوۡنَٰهُم
Wa-balawnaahum̃
And We tested them
بِٱلۡحَسَنَٰتِ
bil-ḥasanaati
with the good
وَٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ
was-sayyiʹaati
and the bad
لَعَلَّهُمۡ
laʻallahum
so that they may
يَرۡجِعُونَ
yarjiʻoon.
return
١٦٨
7:169
فَخَلَفَ
Fakhalafa
Then succeeded
مِنۢ
mim
from
بَعۡدِهِمۡ
baʻdihim
after them
خَلۡفٞ
khalfuñw
successors
وَرِثُواْ
waris̤ul
(who) inherited
ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ
Kitaaba
the Book
يَأۡخُذُونَ
yaʹkhuẓoona
taking
عَرَضَ
ʻaraḍa
goods
هَٰذَا
haaẓal
(of) this
ٱلۡأَدۡنَىٰ
ʹadnaa
the lower (life)
وَيَقُولُونَ
wa-yaq̣ooloona
and they say
سَيُغۡفَرُ
sayug̣faru
It will be forgiven
لَنَا
lanaa.
for us
وَإِن
Wa-ʹiñy
And if
يَأۡتِهِمۡ
yaʹtihim
comes to them
عَرَضٞ
ʻaraḍum
goods
مِّثۡلُهُۥ
mis̤luhoo
similar to it
يَأۡخُذُوهُۚ
yaʹkhuẓooh.
they will take it
أَلَمۡ
ʹAlam
Was not
يُؤۡخَذۡ
Yuʹkhaẓ
taken
عَلَيۡهِم
ʻalayhim
on them
مِّيثَٰقُ
Mees̤aaq̣ul
Covenant
ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ
Kitaabi
(of) the Book
أَن
ʹal
that
لَّا
laa
not
يَقُولُواْ
yaq̣ooloo
they will say
عَلَى
ʻalal
about
ٱللَّهِ
laahi
Allah
إِلَّا
ʹillal
except
ٱلۡحَقَّ
ḥaq̣q̣a
the truth
وَدَرَسُواْ
wadarasoo
while they studied
مَا
maa-
what
فِيهِۗ
feeh?
(is) in it
وَٱلدَّارُ
Wad-Daarul
And the home
ٱلۡأٓخِرَةُ
ʹAakhiratu
(of) the Hereafter
خَيۡرٞ
khayrul
(is) better
لِّلَّذِينَ
lil-laẓeena
for those who
يَتَّقُونَۚ
yattaq̣oon.
fear Allah
أَفَلَا
ʹAfalaa
So will not
تَعۡقِلُونَ
taʻq̣iloon?
you use intellect
١٦٩
7:170
وَٱلَّذِينَ
Wallaẓeena
And those who
يُمَسِّكُونَ
yumassikoona
hold fast
بِٱلۡكِتَٰبِ
bil-Kitaabi
to the Book
وَأَقَامُواْ
wa-ʹaq̣aamuṣ
and establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
Ṣalaata
the prayer
إِنَّا
ʹinnaa
indeed We
لَا
laa-
(will) not
نُضِيعُ
nuḍeeʻu
[We] let go waste
أَجۡرَ
ʹajral
(the) reward
ٱلۡمُصۡلِحِينَ
Muṣliḥeen.
(of) the reformers
