12:53

۞وَمَآ

Wa-maaa

And not

أُبَرِّئُ

ʹubarriʻu

I absolve

نَفۡسِيٓۚ

nafsee:

myself

إِنَّ

ʹinnan

Indeed

ٱلنَّفۡسَ

nafsa

the soul

لَأَمَّارَةُۢ

laʹammaaratum

(is) a certain enjoiner

بِٱلسُّوٓءِ

bissoooʹi

of evil

إِلَّا

ʹillaa

unless

مَا

maa-

[that]

رَحِمَ

raḥima

bestows Mercy

رَبِّيٓۚ

Rabbee:

my Lord

إِنَّ

ʹinna

Indeed

رَبِّي

Rabbee

my Lord

غَفُورٞ

G̣afoorur

(is) Oft-Forgiving

رَّحِيمٞ

Raḥeem.

Most Merciful

٥٣

12:54

وَقَالَ

Wa-q̣aalal

And said

ٱلۡمَلِكُ

malikuʹ

the king

ٱئۡتُونِي

toonee

Bring him to me

بِهِۦٓ

biheee

Bring him to me

أَسۡتَخۡلِصۡهُ

ʹastakhliṣhu

I will select him

لِنَفۡسِيۖ

linafsee.

for myself

فَلَمَّا

Falammaa

Then when

كَلَّمَهُۥ

kallamahoo

he spoke to him

قَالَ

q̣aala

he said

إِنَّكَ

ʹinnakal

Indeed you

ٱلۡيَوۡمَ

yawma

(are) today

لَدَيۡنَا

ladaynaa

with us

مَكِينٌ

makeenun

firmly established

أَمِينٞ

ʹameen!

(and) trusted

٥٤

12:55

قَالَ

Q̣aalaj

He said

ٱجۡعَلۡنِي

ʻalnee

Appoint me

عَلَىٰ

ʻalaa

over

خَزَآئِنِ

khazaaaʹinil

(the) treasuries

ٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ

ʹarḍ:

(of) the land

إِنِّي

ʹinnee

Indeed I

حَفِيظٌ

ḥafeez̤̣un

(will be) a guardian

عَلِيمٞ

ʻaleem.

knowing

٥٥

12:56

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

Wa-kaẓaalika

And thus

مَكَّنَّا

makkannaa

We established

لِيُوسُفَ

li-Yoosufa

[to] Yusuf

فِي

fil

ٱلۡأَرۡضِ

ʹarḍi

the land

يَتَبَوَّأُ

yatabawwaʹu

to settle

مِنۡهَا

minhaa

therein

حَيۡثُ

ḥays̤u

where ever

يَشَآءُۚ

yashaaaʹ.

he willed

نُصِيبُ

Nuṣeebu

We bestow

بِرَحۡمَتِنَا

bi-Raḥmatinaa

Our Mercy

مَن

man

(on) whom

نَّشَآءُۖ

nashaaaʹu

We will

وَلَا

wa-laa

And not

نُضِيعُ

nuḍeeʻu

We let go waste

أَجۡرَ

ʹajral

(the) reward

ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ

Muḥsineen.

(of) the good-doers

٥٦

12:57

وَلَأَجۡرُ

Wa-laʹajrul

And surely (the) reward

ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ

ʹAakhirati

(of) the Hereafter

خَيۡرٞ

khayrul

(is) better

لِّلَّذِينَ

lillaẓeena

for those who

ءَامَنُواْ

ʹaamanoo

believe

وَكَانُواْ

wa-kaanoo

and are

يَتَّقُونَ

yattaq̣oon.

God conscious

٥٧

12:58

وَجَآءَ

Wa-jaaaʹa

And came

إِخۡوَةُ

ʹikhwatu

(the) brothers

يُوسُفَ

Yoosufa

(of) Yusuf

فَدَخَلُواْ

fadakhaloo

and they entered

عَلَيۡهِ

ʻalayhi

upon him

فَعَرَفَهُمۡ

faʻarafahum

and he recognized them

وَهُمۡ

wa-hum

but they

لَهُۥ

lahoo

knew him not

مُنكِرُونَ

muñkiroon.

knew him not

٥٨

12:59

وَلَمَّا

Wa-lammaa

And when

جَهَّزَهُم

jahhazahum̃

he had furnished them

بِجَهَازِهِمۡ

bijahaazihim

with their supplies

قَالَ

q̣aalaʹ

he said

ٱئۡتُونِي

toonee

Bring to me

بِأَخٖ

biʹakhil

a brother

لَّكُم

lakum

of yours

مِّنۡ

min

from

أَبِيكُمۡۚ

ʹabeekum:

your father

أَلَا

ʹalaa

Do not

تَرَوۡنَ

tarawna

you see

أَنِّيٓ

ʹanneee

that I

أُوفِي

ʹoofil

[I] give full

ٱلۡكَيۡلَ

kayla

[the] measure

وَأَنَا۠

wa-ʹana

and that I am

خَيۡرُ

khayrul

(the) best

ٱلۡمُنزِلِينَ

muñzileen?

(of) the hosts

٥٩

12:60

فَإِن

Faʹil

But if

لَّمۡ

lam

not

تَأۡتُونِي

taʹtoonee

you bring him to me

بِهِۦ

bihee

you bring him to me

فَلَا

falaa

then (there will be) no

كَيۡلَ

kayla

measure

لَكُمۡ

lakum

for you

عِندِي

ʻiñdee

from me

وَلَا

wa-laa

and not

تَقۡرَبُونِ

taq̣raboon.

you will come near me

٦٠

12:61

قَالُواْ

Q̣aaloo

They said

سَنُرَٰوِدُ

sanuraawidu

We will try to get permission

عَنۡهُ

ʻanhu

for him

أَبَاهُ

ʹabaahu

(from) his father

وَإِنَّا

wa-ʹinnaa

and indeed we

لَفَٰعِلُونَ

lafaaʻiloon.

surely will do

٦١

12:62

وَقَالَ

Wa-q̣aala

And he said

لِفِتۡيَٰنِهِ

lifityaanihij

to his servants

ٱجۡعَلُواْ

ʻaloo

Put

بِضَٰعَتَهُمۡ

biḍaaʻatahum

their merchandise

فِي

fee

رِحَالِهِمۡ

riḥaalihim

their saddlebags

لَعَلَّهُمۡ

laʻallahum

so that they

يَعۡرِفُونَهَآ

yaʻrifoonahaaa

may recognize it

إِذَا

ʹiẓañ

when

ٱنقَلَبُوٓاْ

q̣alabooo

they go back

إِلَىٰٓ

ʹilaaa

أَهۡلِهِمۡ

ʹahlihim

their people

لَعَلَّهُمۡ

laʻallahum

so that they may

يَرۡجِعُونَ

yarjiʻoon.

return

٦٢

12:63

فَلَمَّا

Falammaa

So when

رَجَعُوٓاْ

rajaʻooo

they returned

إِلَىٰٓ

ʹilaaa

أَبِيهِمۡ

ʹabeehim

their father

قَالُواْ

q̣aaloo

they said

يَٰٓأَبَانَا

yaaaʹabaanaa

O our father

مُنِعَ

muniʻa

Has been denied

مِنَّا

minnal

to us

ٱلۡكَيۡلُ

kaylu

the measure

فَأَرۡسِلۡ

faʹarsil

so send

مَعَنَآ

maʻanaaa

with us

أَخَانَا

ʹakhaanaa

our brother

نَكۡتَلۡ

naktal

(that) we will get measure

وَإِنَّا

wa-ʹinnaa

And indeed we

لَهُۥ

lahoo

for him

لَحَٰفِظُونَ

laḥaafiz̤̣oon.

(will) surely (be) guardians

٦٣

12:64

قَالَ

Q̣aala

He said

هَلۡ

hal

Should

ءَامَنُكُمۡ

ʹaamanukum

I entrust you

عَلَيۡهِ

ʻalayhi

with him

إِلَّا

ʹillaa

except

كَمَآ

kamaaa

أَمِنتُكُمۡ

ʹamiñtukum

I entrusted you

عَلَىٰٓ

ʻalaaa

with

أَخِيهِ

ʹakheehi

his brother

مِن

miñ

before

قَبۡلُ

q̣abl?

before

فَٱللَّهُ

Fal-laahu

But Allah

خَيۡرٌ

khayrun

(is) the best

حَٰفِظٗاۖ

ḥaafiz̤̣aa,

Guardian

وَهُوَ

wa-Huwa

and He

أَرۡحَمُ

ʹArḥamur

(is the) Most Merciful

ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ

raaḥimeen!

(of) the merciful

٦٤

12:65

وَلَمَّا

Wa-lammaa

And when

فَتَحُواْ

fataḥoo

they opened

مَتَٰعَهُمۡ

mataaʻahum

their baggage

وَجَدُواْ

wajadoo

they found

بِضَٰعَتَهُمۡ

biḍaaʻatahum

their merchandise

رُدَّتۡ

ruddat

returned

إِلَيۡهِمۡۖ

ʹilayhim.

to them

قَالُواْ

Q̣aaloo

They said

يَٰٓأَبَانَا

yaaaʹabaanaa

O our father

مَا

maa-

What

نَبۡغِيۖ

nabg̣ee?

(could) we desire

هَٰذِهِۦ

Haaẓihee

This

بِضَٰعَتُنَا

biḍaaʻatunaa

(is) our merchandise

رُدَّتۡ

ruddat

returned

إِلَيۡنَاۖ

ʹilaynaa:

to us

وَنَمِيرُ

wa-nameeru

And we will get provision

أَهۡلَنَا

ʹahlanaa

(for) our family

وَنَحۡفَظُ

wa-naḥfaz̤̣u

and we will protect

أَخَانَا

ʹakhaanaa

our brother

وَنَزۡدَادُ

wa-nazdaadu

and get an increase

كَيۡلَ

kayla

measure

بَعِيرٖۖ

baʻeer.

(of) a camel's (load)

ذَٰلِكَ

Ẓaalika

That

كَيۡلٞ

kayluñy

(is) a measurement

يَسِيرٞ

yaseer.

easy

٦٥

12:66

قَالَ

Q̣aala

He said

لَنۡ

lan

Never

أُرۡسِلَهُۥ

ʹursilahoo

will I send him

مَعَكُمۡ

maʻakum

with you

حَتَّىٰ

ḥattaa

until

تُؤۡتُونِ

tuʹtooni

you give to me

مَوۡثِقٗا

maws̤iq̣am

a promise

مِّنَ

minal

ٱللَّهِ

laahi

Allah

لَتَأۡتُنَّنِي

lataʹtunnanee

that surely you will bring him to me

بِهِۦٓ

biheee

that surely you will bring him to me

إِلَّآ

ʹillaaa

unless

أَن

ʹañy

that

يُحَاطَ

yuḥaaṭa

you are surrounded

بِكُمۡۖ

bikum.

you are surrounded

فَلَمَّآ

Falammaaa

And when

ءَاتَوۡهُ

ʹaatawhu

they had given him

مَوۡثِقَهُمۡ

maws̤iq̣ahum

their promise

قَالَ

q̣aalal

he said

ٱللَّهُ

laahu

Allah

عَلَىٰ

ʻalaa

over

مَا

maa-

what

نَقُولُ

naq̣oolu

we say

وَكِيلٞ

Wakeel!

(is) a Guardian

٦٦

12:67

وَقَالَ

Wa-q̣aala

And he said

يَٰبَنِيَّ

yaa-baniyya

O my sons

لَا

laa-

(Do) not

تَدۡخُلُواْ

tadkhuloo

enter

مِنۢ

mim

from

بَابٖ

baabiñw

one gate

وَٰحِدٖ

waa-ḥidiñw

one gate

وَٱدۡخُلُواْ

wadkhuloo

but enter

مِنۡ

min

from

أَبۡوَٰبٖ

ʹabwaabim

gates

مُّتَفَرِّقَةٖۖ

mutafarriq̣ah.

different

وَمَآ

Wa-maaa

And not

أُغۡنِي

ʹug̣nee

I can avail

عَنكُم

ʻañkum

you

مِّنَ

minal

against

ٱللَّهِ

laahi

Allah

مِن

miñ

any

شَيۡءٍۖ

shayʹ:

thing

إِنِ

ʹinil

Not

ٱلۡحُكۡمُ

ḥukmu

(is) the decision

إِلَّا

ʹillaa

except

لِلَّهِۖ

lillaah:

with Allah

عَلَيۡهِ

ʻalayhi

upon Him

تَوَكَّلۡتُۖ

tawakkalt:

I put my trust

وَعَلَيۡهِ

wa-ʻalayhi

and upon Him

فَلۡيَتَوَكَّلِ

fal-yatawakkalil

let put (their) trust

ٱلۡمُتَوَكِّلُونَ

Mutawakkiloon.

the ones who put trust

٦٧

12:68

وَلَمَّا

Wa-lammaa

And when

دَخَلُواْ

dakhaloo

they entered

مِنۡ

min

from

حَيۡثُ

ḥays̤u

where

أَمَرَهُمۡ

ʹamarahum

ordered them

أَبُوهُم

ʹaboohum;

their father

مَّا

maa-

not

كَانَ

kaana

يُغۡنِي

yug̣nee

avail(ed)

عَنۡهُم

ʻanhum

them

مِّنَ

minal

against

ٱللَّهِ

laahi

Allah

مِن

miñ

any

شَيۡءٍ

shayʹin

thing

إِلَّا

ʹillaa

but

حَاجَةٗ

ḥaajatañ

(it was) a need

فِي

fee

نَفۡسِ

nafsi

Yaqub's soul

يَعۡقُوبَ

Yaʻq̣ooba

Yaqub's soul

قَضَىٰهَاۚ

q̣aḍaahaa.

which he carried out

وَإِنَّهُۥ

Wa-ʹinnahoo

And indeed he

لَذُو

laẓoo

(was) a possessor

عِلۡمٖ

ʻilmil

(of) knowledge

لِّمَا

limaa

because

عَلَّمۡنَٰهُ

ʻallamnaahu

We had taught him

وَلَٰكِنَّ

wa-laakinna

but

أَكۡثَرَ

ʹaks̤aran

most

ٱلنَّاسِ

naasi

(of) the people

لَا

laa-

(do) not

يَعۡلَمُونَ

yaʻlamoon.

know

٦٨

12:69

وَلَمَّا

Wa-lammaa

And when

دَخَلُواْ

dakhaloo

they entered

عَلَىٰ

ʻalaa

upon

يُوسُفَ

Yoosufa

Yusuf

ءَاوَىٰٓ

ʹaawaaa

he took

إِلَيۡهِ

ʹilayhi

to himself

أَخَاهُۖ

ʹakhaahu

his brother

قَالَ

q̣aala

He said

إِنِّيٓ

ʹinneee

Indeed I

أَنَا۠

ʹana

[I] am

أَخُوكَ

ʹakhooka

your brother

فَلَا

falaa

so (do) not

تَبۡتَئِسۡ

tabtaʹis

grieve

بِمَا

bimaa

for what

كَانُواْ

kaanoo

they used (to)

يَعۡمَلُونَ

yaʻmaloon.

12:70

فَلَمَّا

Falammaa

So when

جَهَّزَهُم

jahhazahum̃

he had furnished them

بِجَهَازِهِمۡ

bijahaazihim

with their supplies

جَعَلَ

jaʻalas

he put

ٱلسِّقَايَةَ

siq̣aayata

the drinking cup

فِي

fee

رَحۡلِ

raḥli

the bag

أَخِيهِ

ʹakheehi

(of) his brother

ثُمَّ

s̤umma

Then

أَذَّنَ

ʹaẓẓana

called out

مُؤَذِّنٌ

Muʹaẓẓinun

an announcer

أَيَّتُهَا

ʹayyatuhal

O you

ٱلۡعِيرُ

ʻeeru

(in) the caravan

إِنَّكُمۡ

ʹinnakum

Indeed you

لَسَٰرِقُونَ

lasaariq̣oon!

surely (are) thieves

٧٠

12:71

قَالُواْ

Q̣aaloo

They said

وَأَقۡبَلُواْ

wa-ʹaq̣baloo

turning towards

عَلَيۡهِم

ʻalayhim

them

مَّاذَا

maaẓaa

What (is it)

تَفۡقِدُونَ

tafq̣idoon?

you miss

٧١

12:72

قَالُواْ

Q̣aaloo

They said

نَفۡقِدُ

nafq̣idu

We are missing

صُوَاعَ

ṣuwaaʻal

(the) cup

ٱلۡمَلِكِ

maliki

(of) the king

وَلِمَن

wa-limañ

And for (one) who

جَآءَ

jaaaʹa

brings

بِهِۦ

bihee

حِمۡلُ

ḥimlu

(is) a load

بَعِيرٖ

baʻeeriñw

(of) a camel

وَأَنَا۠

waʹana

and I

بِهِۦ

bihee

for it

زَعِيمٞ

zaʻeem.

(is) responsible

٧٢

12:73

قَالُواْ

Q̣aaloo

They said

تَٱللَّهِ

tallaahi

By Allah

لَقَدۡ

laq̣ad

certainly

عَلِمۡتُم

ʻalimtum

you know

مَّا

maa

not

جِئۡنَا

jiʹnaa

we came

لِنُفۡسِدَ

linufsida

that we cause corruption

فِي

fil

ٱلۡأَرۡضِ

ʹarḍi

the land

وَمَا

wa-maa

and not

كُنَّا

kunnaa

we are

سَٰرِقِينَ

saariq̣een.

thieves

٧٣

12:74

قَالُواْ

Q̣aaloo

They said

فَمَا

famaa

Then what

جَزَٰٓؤُهُۥٓ

jazaaaʹuhooo

(will be the) recompense (of) it

إِن

ʹiñ

كُنتُمۡ

kuñtum

you are

كَٰذِبِينَ

kaaẓibeen?

liars

٧٤

12:75

قَالُواْ

Q̣aaloo

They said

جَزَٰٓؤُهُۥ

jazaaaʹuhoo

Its recompense

مَن

mañw

(is that one) who

وُجِدَ

wujida

it is found

فِي

fee

رَحۡلِهِۦ

raḥlihee

his bag

فَهُوَ

fahuwa

then he

جَزَٰٓؤُهُۥۚ

jazaaaʹuh.

(will be) his recompense

كَذَٰلِكَ

Kaẓaalika

Thus

نَجۡزِي

najziz̤̣

(do) we recompense

ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

z̤̣aalimeen!

the wrongdoers

٧٥

12:76

فَبَدَأَ

Fabadaʹa

So he began

بِأَوۡعِيَتِهِمۡ

biʹawʻiyatihim

with their bags

قَبۡلَ

q̣abla

before

وِعَآءِ

wiʻaaaʹi

(the) bag

أَخِيهِ

ʹakheehi

(of) his brother

ثُمَّ

s̤ummas

then

ٱسۡتَخۡرَجَهَا

takhrajahaa

he brought it out

مِن

miñw

from

وِعَآءِ

wiʻaaaʹi

(the) bag

أَخِيهِۚ

ʹakheeh.

(of) his brother

كَذَٰلِكَ

Kaẓaalika

Thus

كِدۡنَا

kidnaa

(did) We plan

لِيُوسُفَۖ

li-Yoosuf.

for Yusuf

مَا

Maa-

He could not

كَانَ

kaana

He could not

لِيَأۡخُذَ

liyaʹkhuẓa

take

أَخَاهُ

ʹakhaahu

his brother

فِي

fee

دِينِ

deenil

the law

ٱلۡمَلِكِ

maliki

(of) the king

إِلَّآ

ʹillaaa

except

أَن

ʹañy

that

يَشَآءَ

yashaaaʹal

Allah willed

ٱللَّهُۚ

laah.

Allah willed

نَرۡفَعُ

Narfaʻu

We raise

دَرَجَٰتٖ

darajaatim

(in) degrees

مَّن

man

whom

نَّشَآءُۗ

nashaaaʹ:

We will

وَفَوۡقَ

wa-fawq̣a

but over

كُلِّ

kulli

every

ذِي

ẓee

possessor

عِلۡمٍ

ʻilmin

(of) knowledge

عَلِيمٞ

ʻAleem.

(is) the All-Knower

٧٦

12:77

۞قَالُوٓاْ

Q̣aalooo

They said

إِن

ʹiñy

يَسۡرِقۡ

yasriq̣

he steals

فَقَدۡ

faq̣ad

then verily

سَرَقَ

saraq̣a

stole

أَخٞ

ʹakhul

a brother

لَّهُۥ

lahoo

of his

مِن

miñ

before

قَبۡلُۚ

q̣abl.

before

فَأَسَرَّهَا

Faʹasarrahaa

But Yusuf kept it secret

يُوسُفُ

Yoosufu

But Yusuf kept it secret

فِي

fee

within

نَفۡسِهِۦ

nafsihee

himself

وَلَمۡ

wa-lam

and (did) not

يُبۡدِهَا

yubdihaa

reveal it

لَهُمۡۚ

lahum.

to them

قَالَ

Q̣aala

He said

أَنتُمۡ

ʹañtum

You

شَرّٞ

sharrum

(are the) worse

مَّكَانٗاۖ

makaanaa;

(in) position

وَٱللَّهُ

wallaahu

and Allah

أَعۡلَمُ

ʹaʻlamu

knows best

بِمَا

bimaa

of what

تَصِفُونَ

taṣifoon!

you describe

٧٧
