وَلَوۡ
Wa-law
And if
شِئۡنَا
shiʹnaa
We willed
لَرَفَعۡنَٰهُ
larafaʻnaahu
surely We (could) have raised him
بِهَا
bihaa
with these
وَلَٰكِنَّهُۥٓ
walaakinnahooo
[and] but he
أَخۡلَدَ
ʹakhlada
adhered
إِلَى
ʹilal
to
ٱلۡأَرۡضِ
ʹarḍi
the earth
وَٱتَّبَعَ
wattabaʻa
and followed
هَوَىٰهُۚ
hawaah.
his (vain) desires
فَمَثَلُهُۥ
Famas̤aluhoo
So his example
كَمَثَلِ
kamas̤alil
(is) like (the) example
ٱلۡكَلۡبِ
kalb:
(of) the dog
إِن
ʹiñ
if
تَحۡمِلۡ
taḥmil
you attack
عَلَيۡهِ
ʻalayhi
[on] him
يَلۡهَثۡ
yalhas̤
he lolls out his tongue
أَوۡ
ʹaw
or
تَتۡرُكۡهُ
tatrukhu
if you leave him
يَلۡهَثۚ
yalhas̤.
he lolls out his tongue
ذَّٰلِكَ
Ẓaalika
That
مَثَلُ
mas̤alul
(is the) example
ٱلۡقَوۡمِ
q̣awmil
(of) the people
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
who
كَذَّبُواْ
kaẓẓaboo
denied
بِـَٔايَٰتِنَاۚ
biʹAayaatinaa.
[in] Our Signs
فَٱقۡصُصِ
Faq̣ṣuṣil
So relate
ٱلۡقَصَصَ
q̣aṣaṣa
the story
لَعَلَّهُمۡ
laʻallahum
so that they may
يَتَفَكَّرُونَ
yatafakkaroon.
