a portion
مِّنَ
minal
of
ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ
Kitaabi
the Book
يُؤۡمِنُونَ
yuʹminoona
They believe
بِٱلۡجِبۡتِ
bil-Jibti
in the superstition
وَٱلطَّٰغُوتِ
waṭ-Ṭaag̣ooti
and the false deities
وَيَقُولُونَ
wa-yaq̣ooloona
and they say
لِلَّذِينَ
lillaẓeena
for those who
كَفَرُواْ
kafaroo
disbelieve[d]
هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ
haaaʹulaaaʹi
These
أَهۡدَىٰ
ʹahdaa
(are) better guided
مِنَ
minal
than
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
those who
ءَامَنُواْ
ʹaamanoo
believe[d]
سَبِيلًا
sabeelaa?
(as to the) way
٥١
Page 87
4:52
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ
ʹUlaaaʹikal
Those
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
(are) the ones
لَعَنَهُمُ
laʻanahumul
(who have been) cursed
ٱللَّهُۖ
laah:
(by) Allah
وَمَن
wa-mañy
and whoever
يَلۡعَنِ
yalʻanil
(is) cursed
ٱللَّهُ
laahu
(by) Allah
فَلَن
falañ
then never
تَجِدَ
tajida
will you find
لَهُۥ
lahoo
for him
نَصِيرًا
naṣeeraa.
(any) helper
٥٢
4:53
أَمۡ
ʹAm
Or
لَهُمۡ
lahum
for them
نَصِيبٞ
naṣeebum
(is) a share
مِّنَ
minal
of
ٱلۡمُلۡكِ
mulki
the Kingdom
فَإِذٗا
faʹiẓal
Then
لَّا
laa
not would
يُؤۡتُونَ
yuʹtoonan
they give
ٱلنَّاسَ
naasa
the people
نَقِيرًا
naq̣eeraa?
(even as much as the) speck on a date seed
٥٣
4:54
أَمۡ
ʹAm
Or
يَحۡسُدُونَ
yaḥsudoonan
are they jealous
ٱلنَّاسَ
naasa
(of) the people
عَلَىٰ
ʻalaa
for
مَآ
maaa
what
ءَاتَىٰهُمُ
ʹaataahumul
gave them
ٱللَّهُ
laahu
Allah
مِن
miñ
from
فَضۡلِهِۦۖ
faḍlih?
His Bounty
فَقَدۡ
Faq̣ad
But surely
ءَاتَيۡنَآ
ʹaataynaaa
We gave
ءَالَ
ʹAala
(the) family
إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ
ʹIbraaheemal
(of) Ibrahim
ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ
Kitaaba
the Book
وَٱلۡحِكۡمَةَ
wal-Ḥikmata
and [the] wisdom
وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُم
wa-ʹaataynaahum
and [We] gave them
مُّلۡكًا
mulkan
a kingdom
عَظِيمٗا
ʻa-Z̤̣eemaa.
great
٥٤
4:55
فَمِنۡهُم
Faminhum
Then of them
مَّنۡ
man
(are some) who
ءَامَنَ
ʹaamana
believed
بِهِۦ
bihee
in him
وَمِنۡهُم
wa-minhum
and of them
مَّن
mañ
(are some) who
صَدَّ
ṣadda
turned away
عَنۡهُۚ
ʻanh:
from him
وَكَفَىٰ
wa-kafaa
and sufficient
بِجَهَنَّمَ
bi-Jahannama
(is) Hell
سَعِيرًا
saʻeeraa.
(as a) Blazing Fire
٥٥
4:56
إِنَّ
ʹInnal
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
those who
كَفَرُواْ
kafaroo
disbelieved
بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا
biʹAayaatinaa
in Our Signs
سَوۡفَ
sawfa
soon
نُصۡلِيهِمۡ
nuṣleehim
We will burn them
نَارٗا
Naaraa.
(in) a Fire
كُلَّمَا
kullamaa
Every time
نَضِجَتۡ
naḍijat
are roasted
جُلُودُهُم
julooduhum
their skins
بَدَّلۡنَٰهُمۡ
baddalnaahum
We will change their
جُلُودًا
juloodan
skins
غَيۡرَهَا
g̣ayrahaa
for other (than) that
لِيَذُوقُواْ
liyaẓooq̣ul
so that they may taste
ٱلۡعَذَابَۗ
ʻaẓaab:
the punishment
إِنَّ
ʹinnal
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
laha
Allah
كَانَ
kaana
is
عَزِيزًا
ʻAzeezan
All-Mighty
حَكِيمٗا
Ḥakeemaa.
All-Wise
٥٦
4:57
وَٱلَّذِينَ
Wallaẓeena
And those who
ءَامَنُواْ
ʹaamanoo
believe[d]
وَعَمِلُواْ
wa-ʻamiluṣ
and did
ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ
ṣaaliḥaati
the good deeds
سَنُدۡخِلُهُمۡ
sanudkhiluhum
We will admit them
جَنَّٰتٖ
Jannaatiñ
(in) Gardens
تَجۡرِي
tajree
flows
مِن
miñ
from
تَحۡتِهَا
taḥtihal
underneath it
ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ
ʹanhaaru
the rivers
خَٰلِدِينَ
khaalideena
will abide
فِيهَآ
feehaaa
in it
أَبَدٗاۖ
ʹabadaa:
forever
لَّهُمۡ
lahum
For them
فِيهَآ
feehaaa
in it
أَزۡوَٰجٞ
ʹazwaajum
(are) spouses
مُّطَهَّرَةٞۖ
muṭahharah:
pure
وَنُدۡخِلُهُمۡ
wa-nudkhiluhum
and We will admit them
ظِلّٗا
z̤̣illañ
(in the) shade
ظَلِيلًا
z̤̣aleelaa.
thick
٥٧
4:58
۞إِنَّ
ʹInnal
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
laaha
Allah
يَأۡمُرُكُمۡ
yaʹmurukum
orders you
أَن
ʹañ
to
تُؤَدُّواْ
tuʹaddul
render
ٱلۡأَمَٰنَٰتِ
ʹamaanaati
the trusts
إِلَىٰٓ
ʹilaaa
to
أَهۡلِهَا
ʹahlihaa
their owners
وَإِذَا
wa-ʹiẓaa
and when
حَكَمۡتُم
ḥakamtum̃
you judge
بَيۡنَ
baynan
between
ٱلنَّاسِ
naasi
the people
أَن
ʹañ
to
تَحۡكُمُواْ
taḥkumoo
judge
بِٱلۡعَدۡلِۚ
bil-ʻadl!
with justice
إِنَّ
ʹInnal
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
laaha
Allah
نِعِمَّا
niʻimmaa
excellently
يَعِظُكُم
yaʻiz̤̣ukum̃
advises you
بِهِۦٓۗ
bih!
with it
إِنَّ
ʹInnal
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
laaha
Allah
كَانَ
kaana
is
سَمِيعَۢا
Sameeʻam
All-Hearing
بَصِيرٗا
Baṣeeraa.
All-Seeing
٥٨
4:59
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
Yaaaʹayyuhal
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
who
ءَامَنُوٓاْ
ʹaamanooo
believe[d]
أَطِيعُواْ
ʹaṭeeʻul
Obey
ٱللَّهَ
laaha
Allah
وَأَطِيعُواْ
wa-ʹaṭeeʻur
and obey
ٱلرَّسُولَ
Rasoola
the Messenger
وَأُوْلِي
wa-ʹulil
and those
ٱلۡأَمۡرِ
ʹamri
(having) authority
مِنكُمۡۖ
miñkum.
among you
فَإِن
Faʹiñ
Then if
تَنَٰزَعۡتُمۡ
tanaazaʻtum
you disagree
فِي
fee
in
شَيۡءٖ
shayʹiñ
anything
فَرُدُّوهُ
faruddoohu
refer it
إِلَى
ʹilal
to
ٱللَّهِ
laahi
Allah
وَٱلرَّسُولِ
war-Rasooli
and the Messenger
إِن
ʹiñ
if
كُنتُمۡ
kuntum
you
تُؤۡمِنُونَ
tuʹminoona
believe
بِٱللَّهِ
billaahi
in Allah
وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ
wal-Yawmil
and the Day
ٱلۡأٓخِرِۚ
ʹAakhir.
[the] Last
ذَٰلِكَ
Ẓaalika
That
خَيۡرٞ
khayruñw
(is) best
وَأَحۡسَنُ
waʹaḥsanu
and more suitable
تَأۡوِيلًا
taʹweelaa.
(for final) determination

4:60
أَلَمۡ
ʹAlam
Do not
تَرَ
tara
you see
إِلَى
ʹilal
[towards]
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
those who
يَزۡعُمُونَ
yazʻumoona
claim
أَنَّهُمۡ
ʹannahum
that they
ءَامَنُواْ
aamanoo
believe
بِمَآ
bimaaa
in what
أُنزِلَ
ʹuñzila
(is) revealed
إِلَيۡكَ
ʹilayka
to you
وَمَآ
wa-maaa
and what
أُنزِلَ
ʹuñzila
was revealed
مِن
miñ
from
قَبۡلِكَ
q̣ablika
before you
يُرِيدُونَ
yureedoona
They wish
أَن
ʹañy
to
يَتَحَاكَمُوٓاْ
yataḥaakamooo
go for judgment
إِلَى
ʹilaṭ
to
ٱلطَّٰغُوتِ
Ṭaag̣ooti
the false deities
وَقَدۡ
wa-q̣ad
and surely
أُمِرُوٓاْ
ʹumirooo
they were ordered
أَن
ʹañy
to
يَكۡفُرُواْ
yakfuroo
reject
بِهِۦۖ
bih.
[with] it
وَيُرِيدُ
Wayureedush
And wishes
ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنُ
Shayṭaanu
the Shaitaan
أَن
ʹañy
to
يُضِلَّهُمۡ
yuḍillahum
mislead them
ضَلَٰلَۢا
ḍalaalam
astray
بَعِيدٗا
baʻeedaa.
far away
٦٠
4:61
وَإِذَا
Wa-ʹiẓaa
And when
قِيلَ
q̣eela
it is said
لَهُمۡ
lahum
to them
تَعَالَوۡاْ
taʻaalaw
Come
إِلَىٰ
ʹilaa
to
مَآ
maaa
what
أَنزَلَ
ʹañzalal
(has) revealed
ٱللَّهُ
laahu
Allah
وَإِلَى
wa-ʹilar
and to
ٱلرَّسُولِ
Rasooli
the Messenger
رَأَيۡتَ
raʹaytal
you see
ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ
Munaafiq̣eena
the hypocrites
يَصُدُّونَ
yaṣuddoona
turning away
عَنكَ
ʻañka
from you
صُدُودٗا
ṣudoodaa.
(in) aversion
٦١
4:62
فَكَيۡفَ
Fakayfa
So how
إِذَآ
ʹiẓaaa
when
أَصَٰبَتۡهُم
ʹaṣaabathum
befalls them
مُّصِيبَةُۢ
muṣeebatum
disaster
بِمَا
bimaa
for what
قَدَّمَتۡ
q̣addamat
sent forth
أَيۡدِيهِمۡ
ʹaydeehim
their hands
ثُمَّ
s̤umma
then
جَآءُوكَ
jaaaʹooka
they come to you
يَحۡلِفُونَ
yaḥlifoona
swearing
بِٱللَّهِ
billaahi
by Allah
إِنۡ
ʹin
Not
أَرَدۡنَآ
ʹaradnaaa
we intended
إِلَّآ
ʹillaaa
except
إِحۡسَٰنٗا
iḥsaanañw
good
وَتَوۡفِيقًا
watawfeeq̣aa!
and reconciliation
٦٢
4:63
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ
ʹUlaaaʹikal
Those
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
(are) the ones who
يَعۡلَمُ
yaʻla
knows
ٱللَّهُ
mullaahu
Allah
مَا
maa-
what
فِي
fee
(is) in
قُلُوبِهِمۡ
q̣uloobihim
their hearts
فَأَعۡرِضۡ
faʹaʻriḍ
so turn away
عَنۡهُمۡ
ʻanhum
from them
وَعِظۡهُمۡ
wa-ʻiẓhum
and admonish them
وَقُل
wa-q̣ul
and say
لَّهُمۡ
lahum
to them
فِيٓ
feee
concerning
أَنفُسِهِمۡ
ʹañfusihim
their souls
قَوۡلَۢا
q̣awlam
a word
بَلِيغٗا
baleeg̣aa.
penetrating
٦٣
4:64
وَمَآ
Wa-maaa
And not
أَرۡسَلۡنَا
ʹarsalnaa
We sent
مِن
mir
any
رَّسُولٍ
Rasoolin
Messenger
إِلَّا
ʹillaa
except
لِيُطَاعَ
liyuṭaaʻa
to be obeyed
بِإِذۡنِ
biʹIẓnil
by (the) permission
ٱللَّهِۚ
laah.
(of) Allah
وَلَوۡ
Wa-law
And if
أَنَّهُمۡ
ʹannahum
[that] they
إِذ
ʹiz̤̣
when
ظَّلَمُوٓاْ
z̤̣alamooo
they wronged
أَنفُسَهُمۡ
ʹañfusahum
themselves
جَآءُوكَ
jaaaʹooka
(had) come to you
فَٱسۡتَغۡفَرُواْ
fastag̣farul
and asked forgiveness
ٱللَّهَ
laaha
(of) Allah
وَٱسۡتَغۡفَرَ
wastag̣fara
and asked forgiveness
لَهُمُ
lahumur
for them
ٱلرَّسُولُ
Rasoolu
the Messenger
لَوَجَدُواْ
lawajadul
surely they would have found
ٱللَّهَ
laaha
Allah
تَوَّابٗا
Tawwaabar
Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٗا
Raḥeemaa.
Most Merciful
٦٤
4:65
فَلَا
Falaa
But no
وَرَبِّكَ
Wa-Rabbika
by your Lord
لَا
laa-
not
يُؤۡمِنُونَ
yuʹminoona
will they believe
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattaa
until
يُحَكِّمُوكَ
yuḥakkimooka
they make you judge
فِيمَا
fee-ma
about what
شَجَرَ
shajara
arises
بَيۡنَهُمۡ
baynahum
between them
ثُمَّ
s̤umma
then
لَا
laa-
not
يَجِدُواْ
yajidoo
they find
فِيٓ
feee
in
أَنفُسِهِمۡ
ʹañfusihim
themselves
حَرَجٗا
ḥarajam
any discomfort
مِّمَّا
mimmaa
about what
قَضَيۡتَ
q̣aḍayta
you (have) decided
وَيُسَلِّمُواْ
wa-yusal-limoo
and submit
تَسۡلِيمٗا
tasleemaa.
(in full) submission

4:66
وَلَوۡ
Wa-law
And if
أَنَّا
ʹannaa
[that] We
كَتَبۡنَا
katabnaa
(had) decreed
عَلَيۡهِمۡ
ʻalayhim
on them
أَنِ
ʹaniq̣
that
ٱقۡتُلُوٓاْ
tulooo
Kill
أَنفُسَكُمۡ
ʹanfusakum
yourselves
أَوِ
ʹawikh
or
ٱخۡرُجُواْ
rujoo
Go forth
مِن
miñ
from
دِيَٰرِكُم
diyarikum
your homes
مَّا
maa
not
فَعَلُوهُ
faʻaloohu
they would have done it
إِلَّا
ʹillaa
except
قَلِيلٞ
q̣aleelum
a few
مِّنۡهُمۡۖ
minhum:
of them
وَلَوۡ
wa-law
But if
أَنَّهُمۡ
ʹannahum
[that] they
فَعَلُواْ
faʻaloo
had done
مَا
maa-
what
يُوعَظُونَ
yooʻaz̤̣oona
they were advised
بِهِۦ
bihee
with [it]
لَكَانَ
lakaana
surely (it) would have been
خَيۡرٗا
khayral
better
لَّهُمۡ
lahum
for them
وَأَشَدَّ
wa-ʹashadda
and stronger
تَثۡبِيتٗا
tas̤beetaa;
strengthen(ing)
٦٦
4:67
وَإِذٗا
Wa-ʹiẓal
And then
لَّأٓتَيۡنَٰهُم
laʹaataynaahum
We would (have) given them
مِّن
mil
from
لَّدُنَّآ
ladunnaaa
Ourselves
أَجۡرًا
ʹajran
a reward
عَظِيمٗا
ʻaz̤̣eemaa;
great
٦٧
4:68
وَلَهَدَيۡنَٰهُمۡ
Wa-la-hadynaahum
And We would have guided them
صِرَٰطٗا
Ṣiraaṭam
(to the) way
مُّسۡتَقِيمٗا
Mustaq̣eema.
(the) straight
٦٨
4:69
وَمَن
Wa-mañy
And whoever
يُطِعِ
yuṭiʻil
obeys
ٱللَّهَ
laaha
Allah
وَٱلرَّسُولَ
war-Rasoola
and the Messenger
فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ
faʹulaaaʹika
then those
مَعَ
maʻal
(will be) with
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
those whom
أَنۡعَمَ
ʹanʻamal
has bestowed (His) Favor
ٱللَّهُ
laahu
Allah
عَلَيۡهِم
ʻalayhim
upon them
مِّنَ
minan
of
ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ
Nabiyeena
the Prophets
وَٱلصِّدِّيقِينَ
waṣ-Ṣiddeeq̣eena
and the truthful
وَٱلشُّهَدَآءِ
wash-Shuhadaaaʹi
and the martyrs
وَٱلصَّٰلِحِينَۚ
waṣ-Ṣaaliḥeen:
and the righteous
وَحَسُنَ
waḥasuna
And excellent
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ
ʹulaaʹika
(are) those
رَفِيقٗا
Rafeeq̣aa.
companion(s)
٦٩
4:70
ذَٰلِكَ
Ẓaalikal
That
ٱلۡفَضۡلُ
Faḍlu
(is) the Bounty
مِنَ
minal
of
ٱللَّهِۚ
laah:
Allah
وَكَفَىٰ
wa-kafaa
and sufficient
بِٱللَّهِ
billaahi
Allah
عَلِيمٗا
ʻAleemaa.
(as) All-Knower
٧٠
4:71
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
Yaaaʹayyuhal
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
who
ءَامَنُواْ
ʹaamanoo
believe[d]
خُذُواْ
khuẓoo
Take
حِذۡرَكُمۡ
ḥiẓrakum
your precautions
فَٱنفِرُواْ
fañfiroo
and advance
ثُبَاتٍ
s̤ubaatin
(in) groups
أَوِ
ʹawiñ
or
ٱنفِرُواْ
firoo
advance
جَمِيعٗا
jameeʻaa.
all together
٧١
4:72
وَإِنَّ
Wa-ʹinna
And indeed
مِنكُمۡ
miñkum
among you
لَمَن
lamal
(is he) who
لَّيُبَطِّئَنَّ
layubaṭṭiʹann:
lags behind
فَإِنۡ
faʹin
then if
أَصَٰبَتۡكُم
ʹaṣaabatkum
befalls you
مُّصِيبَةٞ
muṣeebatuñ
a disaster
قَالَ
q̣aala
he said
قَدۡ
q̣ad
Verily
أَنۡعَمَ
ʹanʻamal
(has) favored
ٱللَّهُ
laahu
Allah
عَلَيَّ
ʻalayya
[on] me
إِذۡ
ʹiẓ
[when]
لَمۡ
lam
(that) not
أَكُن
ʹakum
I was
مَّعَهُمۡ
maʻahum
with them
شَهِيدٗا
shaheedaa.
present
٧٢
4:73
وَلَئِنۡ
Wa-laʹin
And if
أَصَٰبَكُمۡ
ʹaṣaabakum
befalls you
فَضۡلٞ
faḍlum
bounty
مِّنَ
minal
from
ٱللَّهِ
laahi
Allah
لَيَقُولَنَّ
layaq̣oolanna
he would surely say
كَأَن
kaʹal
as if
لَّمۡ
lam
(had) not
تَكُنۢ
takum
there been
بَيۡنَكُمۡ
baynakum
between you
وَبَيۡنَهُۥ
wabaynahoo
and between him
مَوَدَّةٞ
mawaddatuñy
any affection
يَٰلَيۡتَنِي
yaa-laytanee
Oh! I wish
كُنتُ
kuñtu
I had been
مَعَهُمۡ
maʻahum
with them
فَأَفُوزَ
faʹafooza
then I would have attained
فَوۡزًا
fawzan
a success
عَظِيمٗا
ʻa-Z̤̣eemaa!
great
٧٣
4:74
۞فَلۡيُقَٰتِلۡ
Falyuq̣aatil
So let fight
فِي
fee
in
سَبِيلِ
Sabeelil
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
laahil
(of) Allah
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
those who
يَشۡرُونَ
yashroonal
sell
ٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ
ḥayaatad
the life
ٱلدُّنۡيَا
dunyaa
(of) the world
بِٱلۡأٓخِرَةِۚ
bil-ʹAakhirah.
for the Hereafter
وَمَن
Wa-mañy
And whoever
يُقَٰتِلۡ
yuq̣aatil
fights
فِي
fee
in
سَبِيلِ
Sabeelil
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
laahi
(of) Allah
فَيُقۡتَلۡ
fayuq̣tal
then he is killed
أَوۡ
ʹaw
or
يَغۡلِبۡ
yag̣lib
achieves victory
فَسَوۡفَ
fasawfa
then soon
نُؤۡتِيهِ
nuʹteehi
We will grant him
أَجۡرًا
ʹajran
a reward
عَظِيمٗا
ʻaz̤̣eemaa.
a great
٧٤

4:75
وَمَا
Wa-maa
And what
لَكُمۡ
lakum
for you
لَا
laa-
(that) not
تُقَٰتِلُونَ
tuq̣aatiloona
you fight
فِي
fee
in
سَبِيلِ
Sabeelil
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
laahi
(of) Allah
وَٱلۡمُسۡتَضۡعَفِينَ
walmustaḍʻafeena
and (for) those who are weak
مِنَ
minar
among
ٱلرِّجَالِ
rijaali
the men
وَٱلنِّسَآءِ
wan-Nisaaaʹi
and the women
وَٱلۡوِلۡدَٰنِ
walwildaanil
and the children
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
those who
يَقُولُونَ
yaq̣ooloona
say
رَبَّنَآ
Rabbanaaa
Our Lord
أَخۡرِجۡنَا
ʹakhrijnaa
take us out
مِنۡ
min
of
هَٰذِهِ
haaẓihil
this
ٱلۡقَرۡيَةِ
q̣aryatiz̤̣
[the] town
ٱلظَّالِمِ
z̤̣aalimi
[the] oppressor(s)
أَهۡلُهَا
ʹahluhaa;
(are) its people
وَٱجۡعَل
wajʻal
and appoint
لَّنَا
lanaa
for us
مِن
mil
from
لَّدُنكَ
laduñka
Yourself
وَلِيّٗا
waliyyañw
a protector
وَٱجۡعَل
wajʻal
and appoint
لَّنَا
lanaa
for us
مِن
mil
from
لَّدُنكَ
laduñka
Yourself
نَصِيرًا
naṣeeraa!
a helper
٧٥
