4:1
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
Yaaaʹayyuhan
O
ٱلنَّاسُ
naasut
mankind
ٱتَّقُواْ
taq̣oo
Fear
رَبَّكُمُ
Rabbakumul
your Lord
ٱلَّذِي
laẓee
the One Who
خَلَقَكُم
khalaq̣akum
created you
مِّن
min
from
نَّفۡسٖ
Nafsiñw
a soul
وَٰحِدَةٖ
waaḥidatiñw
single
وَخَلَقَ
wakhalaq̣a
and created
مِنۡهَا
minhaa
from it
زَوۡجَهَا
zawjahaa
its mate
وَبَثَّ
wa-bas̤s̤a
and dispersed
مِنۡهُمَا
minhumaa
from both of them
رِجَالٗا
rijaalañ
men
كَثِيرٗا
kas̤eerañw
many
وَنِسَآءٗۚ
wanisaaaʹaa.
and women
وَٱتَّقُواْ
Wattaq̣ul
And fear
ٱللَّهَ
laahal
Allah
ٱلَّذِي
laẓee
(through) Whom
تَسَآءَلُونَ
tasaaaʹaloona
you ask
بِهِۦ
bihee
[with it]
وَٱلۡأَرۡحَامَۚ
wal-ʹarḥaam:
and the wombs
إِنَّ
ʹinnal
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
laaha
Allah
كَانَ
kaana
is
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
ʻalaykum
over you
رَقِيبٗا
Raq̣eebaa.
Ever-Watchful
١
4:2
وَءَاتُواْ
Wa-ʹaatul
And give
ٱلۡيَتَٰمَىٰٓ
yataamaaa
(to) the orphans
أَمۡوَٰلَهُمۡۖ
ʹamwaalahum
their wealth
وَلَا
wa-laa
and (do) not
تَتَبَدَّلُواْ
tatabaddalul
exchange
ٱلۡخَبِيثَ
khabees̤a
the bad
بِٱلطَّيِّبِۖ
biṭṭayyib.
with the good
وَلَا
Wa-laa
and (do) not
تَأۡكُلُوٓاْ
taʹkulooo
consume
أَمۡوَٰلَهُمۡ
ʹamwaalahum
their wealth
إِلَىٰٓ
ʹilaaa
with
أَمۡوَٰلِكُمۡۚ
ʹamwaalikum.
your wealth
إِنَّهُۥ
ʹInnahoo
Indeed it
كَانَ
kaana
is
حُوبٗا
ḥoobañ
a sin
كَبِيرٗا
kabeeraa.
great
٢
4:3
وَإِنۡ
Wa-ʹin
And if
خِفۡتُمۡ
khiftum
you fear
أَلَّا
ʹallaa
that not
تُقۡسِطُواْ
tuq̣siṭoo
you will be able to do justice
فِي
fil
with
ٱلۡيَتَٰمَىٰ
yataamaa
the orphans
فَٱنكِحُواْ
fañkiḥoo
then marry
مَا
maa-
what
طَابَ
ṭaaba
seems suitable
لَكُم
lakum
to you
مِّنَ
minan
from
ٱلنِّسَآءِ
nisaaaʹi
the women
مَثۡنَىٰ
mas̤naa
two
وَثُلَٰثَ
was̤ulaas̤a
or three
وَرُبَٰعَۖ
wa-rubaaʻ.
or four
فَإِنۡ
Faʹin
But if
خِفۡتُمۡ
khiftum
you fear
أَلَّا
ʹallaa
that not
تَعۡدِلُواْ
taʻdiloo
you can do justice
فَوَٰحِدَةً
fawaaḥidatan
then (marry) one
أَوۡ
ʹaw
or
مَا
maa-
what
مَلَكَتۡ
malakat
possesses
أَيۡمَٰنُكُمۡۚ
ʹaymaanukum.
your right hand
ذَٰلِكَ
Ẓaalika
That
أَدۡنَىٰٓ
ʹadnaaa
(is) more appropriate
أَلَّا
ʹallaa
that (may) not
تَعُولُواْ
taʻooloo.
you oppress
٣
4:4
وَءَاتُواْ
Wa-ʹaatun
And give
ٱلنِّسَآءَ
nisaaaʹa
the women
صَدُقَٰتِهِنَّ
ṣaduq̣aatihinna
their dower
نِحۡلَةٗۚ
niḥlah;
graciously
فَإِن
faʹiñ
But if
طِبۡنَ
ṭibna
they remit
لَكُمۡ
lakum
to you
عَن
ʻañ
of
شَيۡءٖ
shayʹim
anything
مِّنۡهُ
minhu
of it
نَفۡسٗا
nafsañ
(on their) own
فَكُلُوهُ
fakuloohu
then eat it
هَنِيٓـٔٗا
haneeʹam
(in) satisfaction
مَّرِيٓـٔٗا
mareeeʹaa.
(and) ease
٤
4:5
وَلَا
Wa-laa
And (do) not
تُؤۡتُواْ
tuʹtus
give
ٱلسُّفَهَآءَ
sufahaaaʹa
the foolish
أَمۡوَٰلَكُمُ
ʹamwaalakumul
your wealth
ٱلَّتِي
latee
which
جَعَلَ
jaʻalal
(was) made
ٱللَّهُ
laahu
(by) Allah
لَكُمۡ
lakum
for you
قِيَٰمٗا
q̣iyaamañw
a means of support
وَٱرۡزُقُوهُمۡ
warzuq̣oohum
(but) provide (for) them
فِيهَا
feehaa
with it
وَٱكۡسُوهُمۡ
waksoohum
and clothe them
وَقُولُواْ
wa-q̣ooloo
and speak
لَهُمۡ
lahum
to them
قَوۡلٗا
q̣awlam
words
مَّعۡرُوفٗا
maʻroofaa.
(of) kindness
٥
4:6
وَٱبۡتَلُواْ
Wabtalul
And test
ٱلۡيَتَٰمَىٰ
yataamaa
the orphans
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattaaa
until
إِذَا
ʹiẓaa
[when]
بَلَغُواْ
balag̣un
they reach[ed]
ٱلنِّكَاحَ
nikaaḥ;
(the age of) marriage
فَإِنۡ
faʹin
then if
ءَانَسۡتُم
ʹaanastum
you perceive
مِّنۡهُمۡ
minhum
in them
رُشۡدٗا
rushdañ
sound judgement
فَٱدۡفَعُوٓاْ
fad-faʻooo
then deliver
إِلَيۡهِمۡ
ʹilayhim
to them
أَمۡوَٰلَهُمۡۖ
ʹamwaalahum;
their wealth
وَلَا
wa-laa
And (do) not
تَأۡكُلُوهَآ
taʹkuloohaaa
eat it
إِسۡرَافٗا
ʹisraafañw
extravagantly
وَبِدَارًا
Wabidaaran
and hastily
أَن
ʹañy
(fearing) that
يَكۡبَرُواْۚ
yakbaroo.
they will grow up
وَمَن
Wa-mañ
And whoever
كَانَ
kaana
is
غَنِيّٗا
g̣aniyyañ
rich
فَلۡيَسۡتَعۡفِفۡۖ
falyastaʻfif.
then he should refrain
وَمَن
Wa-mañ
and whoever
كَانَ
kaana
is
فَقِيرٗا
faq̣eerañ
poor
فَلۡيَأۡكُلۡ
fal-yaʹkul
then let him eat (of it)
بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِۚ
bilmaʻroof.
in a fair manner
فَإِذَا
Faʹiẓaa
Then when
دَفَعۡتُمۡ
dafaʻtum
you deliver
إِلَيۡهِمۡ
ʹilayhim
to them
أَمۡوَٰلَهُمۡ
ʹamwaalahum
their wealth
فَأَشۡهِدُواْ
faʹashhidoo
then take witnesses
عَلَيۡهِمۡۚ
ʻalayhim:
on them
وَكَفَىٰ
wa-kafaa
And is sufficient
بِٱللَّهِ
billaahi
Allah
حَسِيبٗا
Ḥaseebaa.
(as) a Reckoner

4:7
لِّلرِّجَالِ
Lirrijaali
For the men
نَصِيبٞ
naṣeebum
a portion
مِّمَّا
mimmaa
of what
تَرَكَ
tarakal
(is) left
ٱلۡوَٰلِدَانِ
waalidaani
(by) the parents
وَٱلۡأَقۡرَبُونَ
wal-ʹaq̣raboonaa,
and the near relatives
وَلِلنِّسَآءِ
wa-lin-nisaaaʹi
and for the women
نَصِيبٞ
naṣeebum
a portion
مِّمَّا
mimmaa
of what
تَرَكَ
tarakal
(is) left
ٱلۡوَٰلِدَانِ
waalidaani
(by) parents
وَٱلۡأَقۡرَبُونَ
wal-ʹaq̣raboona
and the near relatives
مِمَّا
mimma
of what
قَلَّ
q̣alla
(is) little
مِنۡهُ
minhu
of it
أَوۡ
ʹaw
or
كَثُرَۚ
kas̤ur.
much
نَصِيبٗا
Naṣeebam
a portion
مَّفۡرُوضٗا
mafrooḍaa.
obligatory
٧
4:8
وَإِذَا
Wa-ʹiẓaa
And when
حَضَرَ
ḥaḍaral
present
ٱلۡقِسۡمَةَ
q̣ismata
(at) the (time of) division
أُوْلُواْ
ʹulul
(of)
ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ
q̣urbaa
the relatives
وَٱلۡيَتَٰمَىٰ
walyataamaa
and the orphans
وَٱلۡمَسَٰكِينُ
walmasaakeenu
and the poor
فَٱرۡزُقُوهُم
farzuq̣oohum
then provide them
مِّنۡهُ
minhu
from it
وَقُولُواْ
wa-q̣ooloo
and speak
لَهُمۡ
lahum
to them
قَوۡلٗا
q̣awlam
words
مَّعۡرُوفٗا
maʻroofaa.
(of) kindness
٨
4:9
وَلۡيَخۡشَ
Walyakhshal
And let fear
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
those who
لَوۡ
law
if
تَرَكُواْ
tarakoo
they left
مِنۡ
min
from
خَلۡفِهِمۡ
khalfihim
behind
ذُرِّيَّةٗ
ẓurriyyatañ
offspring
ضِعَٰفًا
ḍiʻaafan
weak
خَافُواْ
khaafoo
(and) they would have feared
عَلَيۡهِمۡ
ʻalayhim:
about them
فَلۡيَتَّقُواْ
falyattaq̣ul
So let them fear
ٱللَّهَ
laaha
Allah
وَلۡيَقُولُواْ
walyaq̣ooloo
and let them speak
قَوۡلٗا
q̣awlañ
words
سَدِيدًا
sadeedaa.
appropriate
٩
4:10
إِنَّ
ʹInnal
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
those who
يَأۡكُلُونَ
yaʹkuloona
consume
أَمۡوَٰلَ
ʹamwaalal
wealth
ٱلۡيَتَٰمَىٰ
yataamaa
(of) the orphans
ظُلۡمًا
z̤̣ulman
wrongfully
إِنَّمَا
ʹinnamaa
only
يَأۡكُلُونَ
yaʹkuloona
they consume
فِي
fee
in
بُطُونِهِمۡ
buṭoonihim
their bellies
نَارٗاۖ
Naaraa:-Wa
fire
وَسَيَصۡلَوۡنَ
sayaṣlawna
and they will be burned
سَعِيرٗا
saʻeeraa.
(in) a Blazing Fire
١٠
4:11
يُوصِيكُمُ
Yooṣeekumul
Instructs you
ٱللَّهُ
laahu
Allah
فِيٓ
feee
concerning
أَوۡلَٰدِكُمۡۖ
ʹawlaadikum:
your children
لِلذَّكَرِ
liẓ-ẓakari
for the male
مِثۡلُ
mis̤lu
like
حَظِّ
ḥaz̤̣ẓil
(the) portion
ٱلۡأُنثَيَيۡنِۚ
ʹuñṣayayn:
(of) two females
فَإِن
faʹiñ
But if
كُنَّ
kunna
there are
نِسَآءٗ
nisaaaʹañ
(only) women
فَوۡقَ
fawq̣as̤
more (than)
ٱثۡنَتَيۡنِ
natayni
two
فَلَهُنَّ
falahunna
then for them
ثُلُثَا
s̤ulus̤aa
two thirds
مَا
maa-
(of) what
تَرَكَۖ
tarak;
he left
وَإِن
waʹiñ
And if
كَانَتۡ
kaanat
(there) is
وَٰحِدَةٗ
waaḥidatañ
(only) one
فَلَهَا
falahan
then for her
ٱلنِّصۡفُۚ
niṣf.
(is) half
وَلِأَبَوَيۡهِ
Wa-liʹabawayhi
And for his parents
لِكُلِّ
likulli
for each
وَٰحِدٖ
waaḥidim
one
مِّنۡهُمَا
minhumas
of them
ٱلسُّدُسُ
sudusu
a sixth
مِمَّا
mimmaa
of what
تَرَكَ
taraka
(is) left
إِن
ʹiñ
if
كَانَ
kaana
is
لَهُۥ
lahoo
for him
وَلَدٞۚ
walad;
a child
فَإِن
faʹil
But if
لَّمۡ
lam
not
يَكُن
yakul
is
لَّهُۥ
lahoo
for him
وَلَدٞ
waladuñw
any child
وَوَرِثَهُۥٓ
wawaris̤ahooo
and inherit[ed] him
أَبَوَاهُ
ʹabawaahu
his parents
فَلِأُمِّهِ
faliʹummihis̤
then for his mother
ٱلثُّلُثُۚ
s̤ulus̤;
(is) one third
فَإِن
faʹiñ
And if
كَانَ
kaana
are
لَهُۥٓ
lahooo
for him
إِخۡوَةٞ
ʹikhwatuñ
brothers and sisters
فَلِأُمِّهِ
faliʹummihis
then for his mother
ٱلسُّدُسُۚ
sudusu
(is) the sixth
مِنۢ
mim
from
بَعۡدِ
baʻdi
after
وَصِيَّةٖ
waṣiyyatiñy
any will
يُوصِي
yooṣee
he has made
بِهَآ
bihaaa
[of which]
أَوۡ
ʹaw
or
دَيۡنٍۗ
dayn.
any debt
ءَابَآؤُكُمۡ
Aabaaaʹukum,
Your parents
وَأَبۡنَآؤُكُمۡ
waʹabnaaaʹukum
and your children
لَا
laa-
not
تَدۡرُونَ
tadroona
you know
أَيُّهُمۡ
ʹayyuhum
which of them
أَقۡرَبُ
ʹaq̣rabu
(is) nearer
لَكُمۡ
lakum
to you
نَفۡعٗاۚ
nafʻaa.
(in) benefit
فَرِيضَةٗ
Fareeḍatam
An obligation
مِّنَ
minal
from
ٱللَّهِۗ
laah;
Allah
إِنَّ
ʹinnal
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
laaha
Allah
كَانَ
kaana
is
عَلِيمًا
ʻAleeman
All-Knowing
حَكِيمٗا
Ḥakeemaa.
All-Wise

۞وَلَكُمۡ
Wa-lakum
And for you
نِصۡفُ
niṣfu
(is) half
مَا
maa-
(of) what
تَرَكَ
taraka
(is) left
أَزۡوَٰجُكُمۡ
ʹazwaajukum
by your wives
إِن
ʹil
if
لَّمۡ
lam
not
يَكُن
yakul
is
لَّهُنَّ
lahunna
for them
وَلَدٞۚ
walad;
a child
فَإِن
faʹiñ
But if
كَانَ
kaana
is
لَهُنَّ
lahunna
for them
وَلَدٞ
waladuñ
a child
فَلَكُمُ
falakumur
then for you
ٱلرُّبُعُ
rubuʻu
(is) the fourth
مِمَّا
mimmaa
of what
تَرَكۡنَۚ
tarakna
they left
مِنۢ
mim
from
بَعۡدِ
baʻdi
after
وَصِيَّةٖ
Waṣiyyatiñy
any will
يُوصِينَ
yooṣeena
they have made
بِهَآ
bihaaa
[for which]
أَوۡ
ʹaw
or
دَيۡنٖۚ
dayn.
any debt
وَلَهُنَّ
Wa-lahunnar
And for them
ٱلرُّبُعُ
rubuʻu
(is) the fourth
مِمَّا
mimmaa
of what
تَرَكۡتُمۡ
taraktum
you left
إِن
ʹil
if
لَّمۡ
lam
not
يَكُن
yakul
is
لَّكُمۡ
lakum
for you
وَلَدٞۚ
walad;
a child
فَإِن
faʹiñ
But if
كَانَ
kaana
is
لَكُمۡ
lakum
for you
وَلَدٞ
waladuñ
a child
فَلَهُنَّ
falahunnas̤
then for them
ٱلثُّمُنُ
s̤umunu
(is) the eighth
مِمَّا
mimmaa
of what
تَرَكۡتُمۚ
taraktum
you left
مِّنۢ
mim
from
بَعۡدِ
baʻdi
after
وَصِيَّةٖ
Waṣiyyatiñ
any will
تُوصُونَ
tooṣoona
you have made
بِهَآ
bihaaa
[for which]
أَوۡ
ʹaw
or
دَيۡنٖۗ
dayn.
any debt
وَإِن
Wa-ʹiñ
And if
كَانَ
kaana
[is]
رَجُلٞ
rajuluñy
a man
يُورَثُ
yooras̤u
(whose wealth) is to be inherited
كَلَٰلَةً
kalaalatan
(has) no parent or child
أَوِ
ʹawim
or
ٱمۡرَأَةٞ
raʹatuñw
a women
وَلَهُۥٓ
walahooo
and for him
أَخٌ
ʹakhun
(is) a brother
أَوۡ
ʹaw
or
أُخۡتٞ
ʹukhtuñ
a sister
فَلِكُلِّ
falikulli
then for each
وَٰحِدٖ
waaḥidim
one
مِّنۡهُمَا
minhumas
of (the) two
ٱلسُّدُسُۚ
sudus;
(is) the sixth
فَإِن
faʹiñ
But if
كَانُوٓاْ
kaanooo
they are
أَكۡثَرَ
ʹaks̤ara
more
مِن
miñ
than
ذَٰلِكَ
ẓaalika
that
فَهُمۡ
fahum
then they
شُرَكَآءُ
shurakaaʹu
(are) partners
فِي
fis̤
in
ٱلثُّلُثِۚ
s̤ulus̤i
the third
مِنۢ
mim
from
بَعۡدِ
baʻdi
after
وَصِيَّةٖ
Waṣiyyatiñy
any will
يُوصَىٰ
yooṣaa
was made
بِهَآ
bihaaa
[for which]
أَوۡ
ʹaw
or
دَيۡنٍ
daynin
any debt
غَيۡرَ
g̣ayra
without
مُضَآرّٖۚ
muḍaarr.
(being) harmful
وَصِيَّةٗ
Waṣiyyatam
An ordinance
مِّنَ
minal
from
ٱللَّهِۗ
laah;
Allah
وَٱللَّهُ
wallaahu
And Allah
عَلِيمٌ
ʻAleemun
(is) All-Knowing
حَلِيمٞ
Ḥaleem.
All-Forbearing
١٢
4:13
تِلۡكَ
Tilka
These
حُدُودُ
Ḥudoodul
(are the) limits
ٱللَّهِۚ
laah:
(of) Allah
وَمَن
wa-mañy
and whoever
يُطِعِ
yuṭiʻil
obeys
ٱللَّهَ
laha
Allah
وَرَسُولَهُۥ
wa-Rasoolahoo
and His Messenger
يُدۡخِلۡهُ
yudkhilhu
He will admit him
جَنَّٰتٖ
Jannaatiñ
(to) Gardens
تَجۡرِي
tajree
flows
مِن
miñ
from
تَحۡتِهَا
taḥtihal
underneath them
ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ
ʹanhaaru
the rivers
خَٰلِدِينَ
khaalideena
(will) abide forever
فِيهَاۚ
feehaa:
in it
وَذَٰلِكَ
waẓaalikal
And that
ٱلۡفَوۡزُ
fawzul
(is) the success
ٱلۡعَظِيمُ
ʻaz̤̣eem.
[the] great
١٣
4:14
وَمَن
Wa-mañy
And whoever
يَعۡصِ
yaʻṣil
disobeys
ٱللَّهَ
laaha
Allah
وَرَسُولَهُۥ
wa-Rasoolahoo
and His Messenger
وَيَتَعَدَّ
wa-yataʻadda
and transgresses
حُدُودَهُۥ
ḥudoodahoo
His limits
يُدۡخِلۡهُ
yudkhilhu
He will admit him
نَارًا
Naaran
(to) Fire
خَٰلِدٗا
khaalidañ
(will) abide forever
فِيهَا
feehaa:
in it
وَلَهُۥ
wa-lahoo
And for him
عَذَابٞ
ʻaẓaabum
(is) a punishment
مُّهِينٞ
muheen.
humiliating
١٤

4:15
وَٱلَّٰتِي
Wallaatee
And those who
يَأۡتِينَ
yaʹteenal
commit
ٱلۡفَٰحِشَةَ
faaḥishata
[the] immorality
مِن
min
from
نِّسَآئِكُمۡ
nisaaaʹikum
your women
فَٱسۡتَشۡهِدُواْ
fastashhidoo
then call to witness
عَلَيۡهِنَّ
ʻalayhinna
against them
أَرۡبَعَةٗ
ʹarbaʻatam
four
مِّنكُمۡۖ
miñkum:
among you
فَإِن
faʹiñ
And if
شَهِدُواْ
shahidoo
they testify
فَأَمۡسِكُوهُنَّ
faʹamsikoohunna
then confine them
فِي
fil
in
ٱلۡبُيُوتِ
buyooti
their houses
حَتَّىٰ
ḥattaa
until
يَتَوَفَّىٰهُنَّ
yatawaffaahunnal
comes to them
ٱلۡمَوۡتُ
mawtu
[the] death
أَوۡ
ʹaw
or
يَجۡعَلَ
yajʻalal
makes
ٱللَّهُ
laahu
Allah
لَهُنَّ
lahunna
for them
سَبِيلٗا
sabeelaa.
a way
١٥
4:16
وَٱلَّذَانِ
Wallaẓaani
And the two who
يَأۡتِيَٰنِهَا
yaʹtiyaanihaa
commit it
مِنكُمۡ
miñkum
among you
فَـَٔاذُوهُمَاۖ
faʹaaẓoohumaa.
then punish both of them
فَإِن
Faʹiñ
But if
تَابَا
taabaa
they repent
وَأَصۡلَحَا
wa-ʹaṣlaḥaa
and correct themselves
فَأَعۡرِضُواْ
faʹaʻriḍoo
then turn away
عَنۡهُمَآۗ
ʻanhumaa;
from both of them
إِنَّ
ʹinnal
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
laaha
Allah
كَانَ
kaana
is
تَوَّابٗا
Tawwaabar
Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمًا
Raḥeemaa.
Most-Merciful
١٦
4:17
إِنَّمَا
ʹInnamat
Only
ٱلتَّوۡبَةُ
tawbatu
the acceptance of repentance
عَلَى
ʻalal
by
ٱللَّهِ
laahi
Allah
لِلَّذِينَ
lillaẓeena
(is) for those who
يَعۡمَلُونَ
yaʻmaloonas
do
ٱلسُّوٓءَ
soooʹa
the evil
بِجَهَٰلَةٖ
bijahaalatiñ
in ignorance
ثُمَّ
s̤umma
then
يَتُوبُونَ
yatooboona
they repent
مِن
miñ
from
قَرِيبٖ
q̣areebiñ
soon after
فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ
faʹulaaaʹika
Then those
يَتُوبُ
yatoobul
will have forgiveness
ٱللَّهُ
laahu
(from) Allah
عَلَيۡهِمۡۗ
ʻalayhim:
upon them
وَكَانَ
wa-kaanal
and is
ٱللَّهُ
laahu
Allah
عَلِيمًا
ʻAleeman
All-Knowing
حَكِيمٗا
Ḥakeemaa.
All-Wise
١٧
4:18
وَلَيۡسَتِ
Wa-laysatit
And not
ٱلتَّوۡبَةُ
tawbatu
(is) the acceptance of repentance
لِلَّذِينَ

يَعۡمَلُونَ
yaʻmaloonas
do
ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ
sayyiʹaati
the evil deeds
حَتَّىٰٓ
ḥattaaa
until
إِذَا
ʹiẓaa
when
حَضَرَ
ḥaḍara
approaches
أَحَدَهُمُ
ʹaḥadahumul
one of them
ٱلۡمَوۡتُ
mawtu
[the] death
قَالَ
q̣aala
he says
إِنِّي
ʹinnee
Indeed I
تُبۡتُ
tubtul
repent
ٱلۡـَٰٔنَ
ʹaana
now
وَلَا
wa-lal
and not
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
those who
يَمُوتُونَ
yamootoona
die
وَهُمۡ
wa-hum
while they
كُفَّارٌۚ
kuffar:
(are) disbelievers
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ
ʹulaaaʹika
Those
أَعۡتَدۡنَا
ʹaʻtadnaa
We have prepared
لَهُمۡ
lahum
for them
عَذَابًا
ʻaẓaaban
a punishment
أَلِيمٗا
ʹaleemaa.
painful
١٨
4:19
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
Yaaaʹayyuhal
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
who
ءَامَنُواْ
ʹaamanoo
believe[d]
لَا
laa-
Not
يَحِلُّ
yaḥillu
(is) lawful
لَكُمۡ
lakum
for you
أَن
ʹañ
that
تَرِثُواْ
taris̤un
you inherit
ٱلنِّسَآءَ
nisaaaʹa
the women
كَرۡهٗاۖ
karhaa.
(by) force
وَلَا
Wa-laa
And not
تَعۡضُلُوهُنَّ
taʻḍuloohunna
you constraint them
لِتَذۡهَبُواْ
litaẓhaboo
so that you may take
بِبَعۡضِ
bibaʻḍi
a part
مَآ
maaa
(of) what
ءَاتَيۡتُمُوهُنَّ
ʹaataytumoohunna
you have given them
إِلَّآ
ʹillaaa
except
أَن
ʹañy
that
يَأۡتِينَ
yaʹteena
they commit
بِفَٰحِشَةٖ
bifaaḥishatim
immorality
مُّبَيِّنَةٖۚ
mubayyinah;
open
وَعَاشِرُوهُنَّ
wa-ʻaashiroohunna
And live with them
بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِۚ
bilmaʻroof.
in kindness
فَإِن
Faʹiñ
But if
كَرِهۡتُمُوهُنَّ
karihtumoohunna
you dislike them
فَعَسَىٰٓ
faʻasaaa
then perhaps
أَن
ʹañ
that
تَكۡرَهُواْ
takrahoo
you dislike
شَيۡـٔٗا
shyʹañw
a thing
وَيَجۡعَلَ
wayajʻalal
and has placed
ٱللَّهُ
laahu
Allah
فِيهِ
feehi
in it
خَيۡرٗا
khayrañ
good
كَثِيرٗا
kas̤eeraa.
much

4:20
وَإِنۡ
Wa-ʹin
And if
أَرَدتُّمُ
ʹarattumustib
you intend
ٱسۡتِبۡدَالَ
daala
replacing
زَوۡجٖ
ẓawjim
a wife
مَّكَانَ
makaana
(in) place
زَوۡجٖ
zawjiñw
(of) a wife
وَءَاتَيۡتُمۡ
waʹaataytum
and you have given
إِحۡدَىٰهُنَّ
ʹiḥdaahunna
one of them
قِنطَارٗا
q̣iñṭaarañ
heap (of gold)
فَلَا
falaa
then (do) not
تَأۡخُذُواْ
taʹkhuẓoo
take away
مِنۡهُ
minhu
from it
شَيۡـًٔاۚ
shayʹaa:
anything
أَتَأۡخُذُونَهُۥ
ʹataʹkhuẓoonahoo
Would you take it
بُهۡتَٰنٗا
buhtaanañw
(by) slander
وَإِثۡمٗا
waʹis̤mam
and a sin
مُّبِينٗا
mubeenaa.

وَكَيۡفَ
Wa-kayfa
And how
تَأۡخُذُونَهُۥ
taʹkhuẓoonahoo
could you take it
وَقَدۡ
wa-q̣ad
when surely
أَفۡضَىٰ
ʹafḍaa
has gone
بَعۡضُكُمۡ
baʻḍukum
one of you
إِلَىٰ
ʹilaa
to
بَعۡضٖ
baʻḍiñw
another
وَأَخَذۡنَ
waʹakhaẓna
and they have taken
مِنكُم
miñkum
from you
مِّيثَٰقًا
mees̤aaq̣an
covenant
غَلِيظٗا
g̣aleez̤̣aa?
strong
٢١
4:22
وَلَا
Wa-laa
And (do) not
تَنكِحُواْ
tañkiḥoo
marry
مَا
maa-
whom
نَكَحَ
nakaḥa
married
ءَابَآؤُكُم
ʹaabaaaʹukum
your fathers
مِّنَ
minan
of
ٱلنِّسَآءِ
nisaaaʹi
the women
إِلَّا
ʹillaa
except
مَا
maa-
what
قَدۡ
q̣ad
has
سَلَفَۚ
salaf:
passed before
إِنَّهُۥ
ʹinnahoo
indeed it
كَانَ
kaana
was
فَٰحِشَةٗ
faaḥishatañw
an immorality
وَمَقۡتٗا
wamaq̣tanw
and hateful
وَسَآءَ
wasaaaʹa
and (an) evil
سَبِيلًا
sabeelaa.

4:23
حُرِّمَتۡ
Ḥurrimat
Forbidden
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
ʻalaykum
to you
أُمَّهَٰتُكُمۡ
ʹummahaatukum
(are) your mothers
وَبَنَاتُكُمۡ
wa-banaatukum
and your daughters
وَأَخَوَٰتُكُمۡ
wa-ʹakhawaatukum
and your sisters
وَعَمَّٰتُكُمۡ
wa-ʻammaatukum
and your father's sisters
وَخَٰلَٰتُكُمۡ
wa-khaalaatukum
and your mother's sisters
وَبَنَاتُ
wa-banaatul
and daughters
ٱلۡأَخِ
ʹakhi
(of) brothers
وَبَنَاتُ
wa-banaatul
and daughters
ٱلۡأُخۡتِ
ʹukhti
(of) sisters
وَأُمَّهَٰتُكُمُ
wa-ʹummahaatu
and (the) mothers
ٱلَّٰتِيٓ
kumul
who
أَرۡضَعۡنَكُمۡ
laateee
nursed you
وَأَخَوَٰتُكُم
ʹarḍaʻnakum
and your sisters
مِّنَ
wa-ʹakhawaatukum
from
ٱلرَّضَٰعَةِ
minarraḍaaʻati
the nursing
وَأُمَّهَٰتُ
wa-ʹummahaatu
and mothers
نِسَآئِكُمۡ
nisaaaʹikum
(of) your wives
وَرَبَٰٓئِبُكُمُ
wa-rabaaaʹibukumul
and your step daughters
ٱلَّٰتِي
laatee
who
فِي
fee
(are) in
حُجُورِكُم
ḥujoorikum
your guardianship
مِّن
min
of
نِّسَآئِكُمُ
nisaaaʹikumul
your women
ٱلَّٰتِي
laatee
whom
دَخَلۡتُم
dakhaltum̃
you had relations
بِهِنَّ
bihinn,
with them
فَإِن
faʹil
but if
لَّمۡ
lam
not
تَكُونُواْ
takoonoo
you had
دَخَلۡتُم
dakhaltum̃
relations
بِهِنَّ
bihinna
with them
فَلَا
falaa
then (there is) no
جُنَاحَ
junaaḥa
sin
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
ʻalaykum
on you
وَحَلَٰٓئِلُ
wa-ḥalaaaʹilu
And wives
أَبۡنَآئِكُمُ
ʹabnaaaʹikumul
(of) your sons
ٱلَّذِينَ
laẓeena
those who
مِنۡ
min
(are) from
أَصۡلَٰبِكُمۡ
ʹaṣlaabikum
your loins
وَأَن
wa-ʹañ
and that
تَجۡمَعُواْ
tajmaʻoo
you gather together
بَيۡنَ
baynal
[between]
ٱلۡأُخۡتَيۡنِ
ʹukhtayni
two sisters
إِلَّا
ʹillaa
except
مَا
maa-
what
قَدۡ
q̣ad
has
سَلَفَۗ
salaf;
passed before
إِنَّ
ʹinnal
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
laaha
Allah
كَانَ
kaana
is
غَفُورٗا
G̣afoorar
Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٗا
Raḥeemaa:
Most-Merciful

4:24
۞وَٱلۡمُحۡصَنَٰتُ
Walmuḥṣanaatu
And (prohibited are) the ones who are married
مِنَ
minan
of
ٱلنِّسَآءِ
Nisaaaʹi
the women
إِلَّا
ʹillaa
except
مَا
maa-
whom
مَلَكَتۡ
malakat
you possess
أَيۡمَٰنُكُمۡۖ
ʹaymaanukum.
rightfully
كِتَٰبَ
Kitaabal
Decree
ٱللَّهِ
laahi
(of) Allah
عَلَيۡكُمۡۚ
ʻalaykum.
upon you
وَأُحِلَّ
Wa-ʹuḥilla
And are lawful
لَكُم
lakum
to you
مَّا
maa
what
وَرَآءَ
waraaaʹa
(is) beyond
ذَٰلِكُمۡ
ẓaalikum
that
أَن
ʹañ
that
تَبۡتَغُواْ
tabtag̣oo
you seek
بِأَمۡوَٰلِكُم
biʹamwaalikum
with your wealth
مُّحۡصِنِينَ
muḥṣineena
desiring to be chaste
غَيۡرَ
g̣ayra
not
مُسَٰفِحِينَۚ
musaafiḥeen.
(to be) lustful
فَمَا
Famas
So what
ٱسۡتَمۡتَعۡتُم
tamtaʻtum̃
you benefit[ed]
بِهِۦ
bihee
of it
مِنۡهُنَّ
minhunna
from them
فَـَٔاتُوهُنَّ
faʹaatoohunna
so you give them
أُجُورَهُنَّ
ʹujoorahunna
their bridal due
فَرِيضَةٗۚ
fareeḍah.
(as) an obligation
وَلَا
Wa-laa
And (there is) no
جُنَاحَ
junaaḥa
sin
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
ʻalaykum
on you
فِيمَا
fimaa
concerning what
تَرَٰضَيۡتُم
taraaḍaytum̃
you mutually agree
بِهِۦ
bihee
of it
مِنۢ
mim
from
بَعۡدِ
baʻdil
beyond
ٱلۡفَرِيضَةِۚ
fareeḍati,
the obligation
إِنَّ
ʹinnal
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
laaha
Allah
كَانَ
kaana
is
عَلِيمًا
ʻAleeman
All-Knowing
حَكِيمٗا
Ḥakeemaa.
All-Wise
٢٤
4:25
وَمَن
Wa-mal
And whoever
لَّمۡ
lam
(is) not
يَسۡتَطِعۡ
yastaṭiʻ
able to
مِنكُمۡ
miñkum
among you
طَوۡلًا
ṭawlan
afford
أَن
ʹañy
to
يَنكِحَ
yañkiḥal
marry
ٱلۡمُحۡصَنَٰتِ
Muḥṣanaatil
the free chaste
ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِ
Muʹminaati
[the] believing women
فَمِن
famim
then (marry) from
مَّا
maa
what
مَلَكَتۡ
malakat
possess[ed]
أَيۡمَٰنُكُم
ʹaymaanukum
your right hands
مِّن
miñ
of
فَتَيَٰتِكُمُ
fatayaatikumul
your slave girls
ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِۚ
Muʹminaat:
(of) the believers
وَٱللَّهُ
wallaahu
And Allah
أَعۡلَمُ
ʹaʻlamu
knows best
بِإِيمَٰنِكُمۚ
biʹeemaanikum
about your faith
بَعۡضُكُم
Baʻḍukum
You
مِّنۢ
mim
(are) from
بَعۡضٖۚ
baʻḍ:
(one) another
فَٱنكِحُوهُنَّ
fañkiḥoohunna
So marry them
بِإِذۡنِ
biʹiẓni
with (the) permission
أَهۡلِهِنَّ
ʹahlihinna
(of) their family
وَءَاتُوهُنَّ
wa-ʹaatoohunna
and give them
أُجُورَهُنَّ
ʹujoorahunna
their bridal due
بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ
bilmaʻroofi
in a fair manner
مُحۡصَنَٰتٍ
muḥṣanaatin
(They should be) chaste
غَيۡرَ
g̣ayra
not
مُسَٰفِحَٰتٖ
musaafiḥaatiñw
those who commit immorality
وَلَا
walaa
and not
مُتَّخِذَٰتِ
muttakhiẓaati
those who take
أَخۡدَانٖۚ
ʹakhdaan.
secret lovers
فَإِذَآ
Faʹiẓaaa
Then when
أُحۡصِنَّ
ʹuḥṣinna
they are married
فَإِنۡ
faʹin
and if
أَتَيۡنَ
ʹatayna
they commit
بِفَٰحِشَةٖ
bifaaḥishatiñ
adultery
فَعَلَيۡهِنَّ
faʻalayhinna
then for them
نِصۡفُ
niṣfu
(is) half
مَا
maa-
(of) what
عَلَى
ʻalal
(is) on
ٱلۡمُحۡصَنَٰتِ
muḥṣanaati
the free chaste women
مِنَ
minal
of
ٱلۡعَذَابِۚ
ʻaẓaab.
the punishment
ذَٰلِكَ
Ẓaalika
That
لِمَنۡ
liman
(is) for whoever
خَشِيَ
khashiyal
fears
ٱلۡعَنَتَ
ʻanata
committing sin
مِنكُمۡۚ
miñkum.
among you
وَأَن
Wa-ʹañ
and that
تَصۡبِرُواْ
taṣbiroo
you be patient
خَيۡرٞ
khayrul
(is) better
لَّكُمۡۗ
lakum:
for you
وَٱللَّهُ
wallaahu
And Allah
غَفُورٞ
G̣afoorur
(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٞ
Raḥeem.
Most Merciful
