28:2تِلۡكَTilkaTheseءَايَٰتُʹAayaatul(are the) VersesٱلۡكِتَٰبِKitaabil(of) the Bookٱلۡمُبِينِmubeen.the clear٢
28:3نَتۡلُواْNatlooWe reciteعَلَيۡكَʻalaykato youمِنminfromنَّبَإِnabaʹi(the) newsمُوسَىٰMoosaa(of) Musaوَفِرۡعَوۡنَwa-Firʻawnaand Firaunبِٱلۡحَقِّbil-Ḥaq̣q̣iin truthلِقَوۡمٖliq̣awmiñyfor a peopleيُؤۡمِنُونَyuʹminoon.who believe٣
28:4إِنَّʹInnaIndeedفِرۡعَوۡنَfirʻawnaFiraunعَلَاʻalaaexalted himselfفِيfilinٱلۡأَرۡضِʹarḍithe landوَجَعَلَwa-jaʻalaand madeأَهۡلَهَاʹahlahaaits peopleشِيَعٗاshiyaʻañy(into) sectsيَسۡتَضۡعِفُyastaḍʻifuoppressingطَآئِفَةٗṭaaaʹifatama groupمِّنۡهُمۡminhumamong themيُذَبِّحُyuẓabbiḥuslaughteringأَبۡنَآءَهُمۡʹabnaaaʹahumtheir sonsوَيَسۡتَحۡيِۦwa-yastaḥyeeand letting liveنِسَآءَهُمۡۚnisaaaʹahum:their womenإِنَّهُۥʹinnahooIndeed heكَانَkaanawasمِنَminalofٱلۡمُفۡسِدِينَmufsideen.the corrupters٤
28:5وَنُرِيدُWa-nureeduAnd We wantedأَنʹantoنَّمُنَّnamunnabestow a favorعَلَىʻalaluponٱلَّذِينَlaẓeenasthose whoٱسۡتُضۡعِفُواْtuḍʻifoowere oppressedفِيfilinٱلۡأَرۡضِʹarḍithe landوَنَجۡعَلَهُمۡwa-najʻalahumand make themأَئِمَّةٗʹaʹimmatañwleadersوَنَجۡعَلَهُمُWanajʻalahumuland make themٱلۡوَٰرِثِينَwaaris̤een,the inheritors٥
28:6وَنُمَكِّنَWa-numakkinaAnd [We] establishلَهُمۡlahumthemفِيfilinٱلۡأَرۡضِʹarḍithe landوَنُرِيَwa-nuriyaand showفِرۡعَوۡنَFirʻawnaFiraunوَهَٰمَٰنَwa-Haamaanaand Hamanوَجُنُودَهُمَاwa-junoodahumaaand their hostsمِنۡهُمminhumthrough themمَّاmaawhatكَانُواْkaanoothey wereيَحۡذَرُونَyaḥẓaroon.fearing٦
28:7وَأَوۡحَيۡنَآWa-ʹawḥaynaaaAnd We inspiredإِلَىٰٓʹilaaa[to]أُمِّʹummi(the) motherمُوسَىٰٓMoosaaa(of) Musaأَنۡʹanthatأَرۡضِعِيهِۖʹarḍiʻeeh:Suckle himفَإِذَاfaʹiẓaabut whenخِفۡتِkhiftiyou fearعَلَيۡهِʻalayhifor himفَأَلۡقِيهِfaʹalq̣eehithen cast himفِيfilin(to)ٱلۡيَمِّyammithe riverوَلَاwa-laaand (do) notتَخَافِيtakhaafeefearوَلَاwalaaand (do) notتَحۡزَنِيٓۖtaḥzanee:grieveإِنَّاʹinnaaIndeed Weرَآدُّوهُraaaddoohu(will) restore himإِلَيۡكِʹilaykito youوَجَاعِلُوهُwa-jaaʻiloohuand (will) make himمِنَmilnalofٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَmursaleen.the Messengers٧
28:8فَٱلۡتَقَطَهُۥٓFaltaq̣aṭahoooThen picked him upءَالُʹaalu(the) familyفِرۡعَوۡنَFirʻawna(of) Firaunلِيَكُونَliyakoonaso that he might becomeلَهُمۡlahumto themعَدُوّٗاʻaduwwañwan enemyوَحَزَنًاۗWaḥazanaa:and a griefإِنَّʹInnaIndeedفِرۡعَوۡنَFirʻawnaFiraunوَهَٰمَٰنَwa-Haamaanaand Hamanوَجُنُودَهُمَاwa-junooda-humaaand their hostsكَانُواْkaanoowereخَٰطِـِٔينَkhaaṭiʹeen.sinners٨
28:9وَقَالَتِWa-q̣aalatimAnd saidٱمۡرَأَتُraʹatu(the) wifeفِرۡعَوۡنَFirʻawna(of) Firaunقُرَّتُq̣urratuA comfortعَيۡنٖʻaynil(of the) eyeلِّيleefor meوَلَكَۖwa-lak:and for youلَاlaa-(Do) notتَقۡتُلُوهُtaq̣tuloohukill himعَسَىٰٓʻasaaaperhapsأَنʹañy(that)يَنفَعَنَآyañfaʻanaaahe may benefit usأَوۡʹaworنَتَّخِذَهُۥnattakhiẓahoowe may take himوَلَدٗاwaladañw(as) a sonوَهُمۡwahumAnd theyلَاlaa-(did) notيَشۡعُرُونَyashʻuroon!perceive٩
28:10وَأَصۡبَحَWa-ʹaṣbaḥaAnd becameفُؤَادُfuʹaadu(the) heartأُمِّʹummi(of the) motherمُوسَىٰMoosaa(of) Musaفَٰرِغًاۖfaarig̣aa:emptyإِنʹiñThatكَادَتۡkaadatshe was nearلَتُبۡدِيlatubdee(to) disclosingبِهِۦbiheeabout himلَوۡلَآlawif notأَنlaaathatرَّبَطۡنَاʹarrabaṭnaaWe strengthenedعَلَىٰʻalaa[over]قَلۡبِهَاq̣albihaaher heartلِتَكُونَlitakoonaso that she would beمِنَminalofٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَMuʹmineen.the believers١٠
28:11وَقَالَتۡWa-q̣aalatAnd she saidلِأُخۡتِهِۦliʹukhtiheeto his sisterقُصِّيهِۖq̣uṣṣeeh.Follow himفَبَصُرَتۡFabaṣuratSo she watchedبِهِۦbiheehimعَنʻañfromجُنُبٖjunubiñwa distanceوَهُمۡwahumwhile theyلَاlaa-(did) notيَشۡعُرُونَyashʻuroon.perceive١١
28:12۞وَحَرَّمۡنَاwa-ḥarramnaaAnd We had forbiddenعَلَيۡهِʻalayhilfor himٱلۡمَرَاضِعَmaraaḍiʻathe wet nursesمِنmiñbeforeقَبۡلُq̣ablubeforeفَقَالَتۡfaq̣aalatso she saidهَلۡhalShall Iأَدُلُّكُمۡʹadullukumdirect youعَلَىٰٓʻalaaatoأَهۡلِʹahli(the) peopleبَيۡتٖbaytiñy(of) a houseيَكۡفُلُونَهُۥyakfuloonahoowho will rear himلَكُمۡlakumfor youوَهُمۡwa-humwhile theyلَهُۥlahooto himنَٰصِحُونَnaaṣiḥoon?...(will be) sincere١٢
28:13فَرَدَدۡنَٰهُFaradadnaahuSo We restored himإِلَىٰٓʹilaaatoأُمِّهِۦʹummiheehis motherكَيۡkaythatتَقَرَّtaq̣arramight be comfortedعَيۡنُهَاʻaynuhaaher eyeوَلَاwa-laaand notتَحۡزَنَtaḥzanashe may grieveوَلِتَعۡلَمَwa-litaʻlamaand that she would knowأَنَّʹannathatوَعۡدَwaʻdalthe Promise of Allahٱللَّهِlaahithe Promise of Allahحَقّٞḥaq̣q̣uñw(is) trueوَلَٰكِنَّwalaakinnaButأَكۡثَرَهُمۡʹaks̤arahummost of themلَاlaa-(do) notيَعۡلَمُونَyaʻlamoon.know١٣
28:14وَلَمَّاWa-lammaaAnd whenبَلَغَbalag̣ahe reachedأَشُدَّهُۥʹashuddahoohis full strengthوَٱسۡتَوَىٰٓwastawaaaand became matureءَاتَيۡنَٰهُʹaataynaahuWe bestowed upon himحُكۡمٗاḥukmañwwisdomوَعِلۡمٗاۚwaʻilmaa:and knowledgeوَكَذَٰلِكَwa-kaẓaalikaAnd thusنَجۡزِيnajzilWe rewardٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَMuḥsineen.the good-doers١٤
28:15وَدَخَلَWa-dakhalalAnd he enteredٱلۡمَدِينَةَMadeenatathe cityعَلَىٰʻalaaatحِينِḥeenia timeغَفۡلَةٖg̣aflatim(of) inattentionمِّنۡminofأَهۡلِهَاʹahlihaaits peopleفَوَجَدَfawajadaand foundفِيهَاfeehathereinرَجُلَيۡنِrajulaynitwo menيَقۡتَتِلَانِyaq̣tatilaanifighting each otherهَٰذَاhaaẓaathisمِنmiñofشِيعَتِهِۦsheeʻatiheehis partyوَهَٰذَاwa-haaẓaaand thisمِنۡminofعَدُوِّهِۦۖʻaduwwih.his enemyفَٱسۡتَغَٰثَهُFastag̣aas̤ahulAnd called him for helpٱلَّذِيlaẓeethe one whoمِنmiñ(was) fromشِيعَتِهِۦsheeʻatiheehis partyعَلَىʻalalagainstٱلَّذِيlaẓeethe one whoمِنۡmin(was) fromعَدُوِّهِۦʻaduwwiheehis enemyفَوَكَزَهُۥfawakazahooso Musa struck him with his fistمُوسَىٰMoosaaso Musa struck him with his fistفَقَضَىٰfaq̣aḍaaand killed himعَلَيۡهِۖʻalayh.and killed himقَالَQ̣aalaHe saidهَٰذَاhaaẓaaThis (is)مِنۡminofعَمَلِʻamalish(the) deedٱلشَّيۡطَٰنِۖshayṭaan:(of) ShaitaanإِنَّهُۥʹinnahooIndeed heعَدُوّٞʻaduwwum(is) an enemy مُّضِلّٞmuḍillumone who misleadsمُّبِينٞmubeen!clearly١٥
28:16قَالَQ̣aalaHe saidرَبِّRabbiMy LordإِنِّيʹinneeIndeed Iظَلَمۡتُz̤̣alamtu[I] have wrongedنَفۡسِيnafseemy soulفَٱغۡفِرۡfag̣firso forgiveلِيlee[for] meفَغَفَرَfag̣afaraThen He forgaveلَهُۥٓۚlah:[for] himإِنَّهُۥinnahooIndeed HeهُوَHuwalHe (is)ٱلۡغَفُورُG̣afoorurthe Oft-ForgivingٱلرَّحِيمُRaḥeem.the Most Merciful١٦
28:17قَالَQ̣aalaHe saidرَبِّRabbiMy LordبِمَآbimaaaBecauseأَنۡعَمۡتَʹanʻamtaYou have favoredعَلَيَّʻalayya[on] meفَلَنۡfalanso notأَكُونَʹakoonaI will beظَهِيرٗاz̤̣aheerala supporterلِّلۡمُجۡرِمِينَlilmujrimeen.(of) the criminals١٧
28:18فَأَصۡبَحَFaʹaṣbaḥaIn the morning he wasفِيfilinٱلۡمَدِينَةِMadeenatithe cityخَآئِفٗاkhaaaʹifañyfearfulيَتَرَقَّبُyataraq̣q̣abu(and) was vigilantفَإِذَاfaʹiẓalwhen beholdٱلَّذِيlaẓisThe one whoٱسۡتَنصَرَهُۥtañṣarahoosought his helpبِٱلۡأَمۡسِbil-ʹamsithe previous dayيَسۡتَصۡرِخُهُۥۚyastaṣrikhuh.cried out to him for helpقَالَQ̣aalaSaidلَهُۥlahooto himمُوسَىٰٓMoosaaaMusaإِنَّكَʹinnakaIndeed youلَغَوِيّٞlag̣awiyyum(are) surely a deviatorمُّبِينٞmubeen!clear١٨
28:19فَلَمَّآFalammaaaThen whenأَنۡʹan[that]أَرَادَʹaraadahe wantedأَنʹañytoيَبۡطِشَyabṭishastrikeبِٱلَّذِيbillaẓeethe one whoهُوَhuwa[he] (was)عَدُوّٞʻaduwwulan enemyلَّهُمَاlahumaato both of themقَالَq̣aalahe saidيَٰمُوسَىٰٓyaa-MoosaaaO MusaأَتُرِيدُʹatureeduDo you intendأَنʹañtoتَقۡتُلَنِيtaq̣tulaneekill meكَمَاkamaaasقَتَلۡتَq̣ataltayou killedنَفۡسَۢاnafsama personبِٱلۡأَمۡسِۖbil-ʹams?yesterdayإِنʹIñNotتُرِيدُtureeduyou wantإِلَّآʹillaaabutأَنʹañthatتَكُونَtakoonayou becomeجَبَّارٗاjabbaaraña tyrantفِيfilinٱلۡأَرۡضِʹarḍithe earthوَمَاwa-maaand notتُرِيدُtureeduyou wantأَنʹañthatتَكُونَtakoonayou beمِنَminalofٱلۡمُصۡلِحِينَMuṣliḥeen!the reformers١٩
28:20وَجَآءَWa-jaaaʹaAnd cameرَجُلٞrajuluma manمِّنۡminfromأَقۡصَاʹaq̣ṣal(the) farthest endٱلۡمَدِينَةِMadeenati(of) the cityيَسۡعَىٰyasʻaa.runningقَالَQ̣aalaHe saidيَٰمُوسَىٰٓyaa-MoosaaaO MusaإِنَّʹinnalIndeedٱلۡمَلَأَmalaʹathe chiefsيَأۡتَمِرُونَyaʹ-tamiroonaare taking counselبِكَbikaabout youلِيَقۡتُلُوكَliyaq̣tulookato kill youفَٱخۡرُجۡfakhrujso leaveإِنِّيʹinneeindeed I amلَكَlakato youمِنَminanofٱلنَّٰصِحِينَnaaṣiḥeen.the sincere advisors٢٠
28:21فَخَرَجَFakharajaSo he leftمِنۡهَاminhaafrom itخَآئِفٗاkhaaaʹifañyfearingيَتَرَقَّبُۖyataraq̣q̣ab:(and) vigilantقَالَQ̣aalaHe saidرَبِّRabbiMy LordنَجِّنِيnajjineeSave meمِنَminalfromٱلۡقَوۡمِq̣awmiz̤̣the people ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَz̤̣aalimeen.the wrongdoers٢١
28:22وَلَمَّاWa-lammaaAnd whenتَوَجَّهَtawajjahahe turned his faceتِلۡقَآءَtilq̣aaaʹatowardsمَدۡيَنَMadyanaMadyanقَالَq̣aalahe saidعَسَىٰʻasaaPerhapsرَبِّيٓRabbeeemy Lordأَنʹañy[that]يَهۡدِيَنِيyahdiyaneewill guide meسَوَآءَsawaaaʹas(to the) soundٱلسَّبِيلِsabeel.way٢٢
28:23وَلَمَّاWa-lammaaAnd whenوَرَدَwaradahe cameمَآءَmaaaʹa(to the) waterمَدۡيَنَMadyana(of) Madyanوَجَدَwajadahe foundعَلَيۡهِʻalayhion itأُمَّةٗʹummatama groupمِّنَminanofٱلنَّاسِnaasimenيَسۡقُونَyasq̣oonawateringوَوَجَدَwa-wajadaand he foundمِنmiñbesides themدُونِهِمُdoonihimumbesides themٱمۡرَأَتَيۡنِraʹataynitwo womenتَذُودَانِۖtaẓoodaan.keeping backقَالَQ̣aalaHe saidمَاmaa-Whatخَطۡبُكُمَاۖkhaṭbukumaa?(is the) matter with both of youقَالَتَاQ̣aalataaThey saidلَاlaa-We cannot waterنَسۡقِيnasq̣eeWe cannot waterحَتَّىٰḥattaauntilيُصۡدِرَyuṣdirartake awayٱلرِّعَآءُۖriʻaaaʹuthe shepherdsوَأَبُونَاwa-ʹaboonaaand our fatherشَيۡخٞshaykhuñ(is) a very old manكَبِيرٞkabeer.(is) a very old man٢٣
28:24فَسَقَىٰFasaq̣aaSo he wateredلَهُمَاlahumaafor themثُمَّs̤ummaThenتَوَلَّىٰٓtawallaaahe turned backإِلَىʹilaz̤̣toٱلظِّلِّz̤̣illithe shadeفَقَالَfaq̣aalaand saidرَبِّRabbiMy LordإِنِّيʹinneeIndeed I amلِمَآlimaaaof whateverأَنزَلۡتَañzaltaYou sendإِلَيَّʹilayyato meمِنۡminofخَيۡرٖkhayriñgoodفَقِيرٞfaq̣eer!..(in) need٢٤
28:25فَجَآءَتۡهُFajaaaʹathuThen came to himإِحۡدَىٰهُمَاʹiḥdaahumaaone of the two womenتَمۡشِيtamsheewalkingعَلَىʻalaswithٱسۡتِحۡيَآءٖtiḥyaaaʹ,shynessقَالَتۡQ̣aalatShe saidإِنَّʹinnaIndeedأَبِيʹabeemy fatherيَدۡعُوكَyadʻookacalls youلِيَجۡزِيَكَliyajziyakathat he may reward youأَجۡرَʹajra(the) rewardمَاmaa-(for) whatسَقَيۡتَsaq̣aytayou wateredلَنَاۚlanaa.for usفَلَمَّاFalammaaSo whenجَآءَهُۥjaaaʹahoohe came to himوَقَصَّwa-q̣aṣṣaand narratedعَلَيۡهِʻalayhilto himٱلۡقَصَصَq̣aṣaṣathe storyقَالَq̣aalahe saidلَاlaa-(Do) notتَخَفۡۖtakhaf:fearنَجَوۡتَnajawtaYou have escapedمِنَminalfromٱلۡقَوۡمِq̣awmiz̤̣the people ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَz̤̣aalimeen.the wrongdoers٢٥
