28:85
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِي
alladhi
He Who
فَرَضَ
farada
ordained
عَلَيۡكَ
alayka
upon you
ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ
al-qur'ana
the Quran
لَرَآدُّكَ
laradduka
(will) surely take you back
إِلَىٰ
ila
to
مَعَادٖۚ
ma'adin
a place of return
قُل
qul
Say
رَّبِّيٓ
rabbi
My Lord
أَعۡلَمُ
a'lamu
(is) most knowing
مَن
man
(of him) who
جَآءَ
jaa
comes
بِٱلۡهُدَىٰ
bil-huda
with the guidance
وَمَنۡ
waman
and who
هُوَ
huwa
he
فِي
fi
(is) in
ضَلَٰلٖ
dalalin
an error
مُّبِينٖ
mubinin
manifest
٨٥

He who has made the Quran binding on you [Prophet] will bring you back home. So say, ‘My Lord knows best who has brought true guidance and who is blatantly astray.’

Translation 1260

28:86
وَمَا
wama
And not
كُنتَ
kunta
you were
تَرۡجُوٓاْ
tarju
expecting
أَن
an
that
يُلۡقَىٰٓ
yul'qa
would be sent down
إِلَيۡكَ
ilayka
to you
ٱلۡكِتَٰبُ
al-kitabu
the Book
إِلَّا
illa
except
رَحۡمَةٗ
rahmatan
(as) a mercy
مِّن
min
from
رَّبِّكَۖ
rabbika
your Lord
فَلَا
fala
So (do) not
تَكُونَنَّ
takunanna
be
ظَهِيرٗا
zahiran
an assistant
لِّلۡكَٰفِرِينَ
lil'kafirina
to the disbelievers
٨٦

You yourself could not have expected the Scripture to be sent to you; it came only as a mercy from your Lord. So give no help to the disbelievers

Translation 1260

28:87
وَلَا
wala
And (let) not
يَصُدُّنَّكَ
yasuddunnaka
avert you
عَنۡ
an
from
ءَايَٰتِ
ayati
(the) Verses
ٱللَّهِ
al-lahi
(of) Allah
بَعۡدَ
ba'da
after
إِذۡ
idh
[when]
أُنزِلَتۡ
unzilat
they have been revealed
إِلَيۡكَۖ
ilayka
to you
وَٱدۡعُ
wa-ud'u
And invite (people)
إِلَىٰ
ila
to
رَبِّكَۖ
rabbika
your Lord
وَلَا
wala
And (do) not
تَكُونَنَّ
takunanna
be
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ
al-mush'rikina
the polytheists
٨٧

Do not let them turn you away from God’s revelations after they have been revealed to you. Call people to your Lord. Never become one of those who ascribe partners to God

Translation 1260

28:88
وَلَا
wala
And (do) not
تَدۡعُ
tad'u
invoke
مَعَ
ma'a
with
ٱللَّهِ
al-lahi
Allah
إِلَٰهًا
ilahan
god
ءَاخَرَۘ
akhara
other
لَآ
la
(There is) no
إِلَٰهَ
ilaha
god
إِلَّا
illa
except
هُوَۚ
huwa
Him
كُلُّ
kullu
Every
شَيۡءٍ
shayin
thing
هَالِكٌ
halikun
(will be) destroyed
إِلَّا
illa
except
وَجۡهَهُۥۚ
wajhahu
His Face
لَهُ
lahu
To Him
ٱلۡحُكۡمُ
al-huk'mu
(is) the Decision
وَإِلَيۡهِ
wa-ilayhi
and to Him
تُرۡجَعُونَ
tur'ja'una
you will be returned
٨٨

Do not call out to any other god beside God, for there is no god but Him. Everything will perish except His Face. His is the Judgement and to Him you shall all be brought back

أَحَسِبَ
ahasiba
Do think
ٱلنَّاسُ
al-nasu
the people
أَن
an
that
يُتۡرَكُوٓاْ
yut'raku
they will be left
أَن
an
because
يَقُولُوٓاْ
yaqulu
they say
ءَامَنَّا
amanna
We believe
وَهُمۡ
wahum
and they
لَا
la
will not be tested
يُفۡتَنُونَ
yuf'tanuna
will not be tested
٢

Do people think they will be left alone after saying ‘We believe’ without being put to the test

Translation 1260

29:3
وَلَقَدۡ
walaqad
And indeed
فَتَنَّا
fatanna
We tested
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
those who
مِن
min
(were) before them
قَبۡلِهِمۡۖ
qablihim
(were) before them
فَلَيَعۡلَمَنَّ
falaya'lamanna
And Allah will surely make evident
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
And Allah will surely make evident
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
those who
صَدَقُواْ
sadaqu
(are) truthful
وَلَيَعۡلَمَنَّ
walaya'lamanna
and He will surely make evident
ٱلۡكَٰذِبِينَ
al-kadhibina
the liars
٣

We tested those who went before them: God will certainly mark out which ones are truthful and which are lying

Translation 1260

29:4
أَمۡ
am
Or
حَسِبَ
hasiba
think
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
those who
يَعۡمَلُونَ
ya'maluna
do
ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ
al-sayiati
evil deeds
أَن
an
that
يَسۡبِقُونَاۚ
yasbiquna
they can outrun Us
سَآءَ
saa
Evil is
مَا
ma
what
يَحۡكُمُونَ
yahkumuna
they judge
٤

Do the evildoers think they can escape us? How ill they judge

Translation 1260

29:5
مَن
man
Whoever
كَانَ
kana
[is]
يَرۡجُواْ
yarju
hopes
لِقَآءَ
liqaa
(for the) meeting
ٱللَّهِ
al-lahi
(with) Allah
فَإِنَّ
fa-inna
then indeed
أَجَلَ
ajala
(the) Term
ٱللَّهِ
al-lahi
(of) Allah
لَأٓتٖۚ
laatin
(is) surely coming
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
And He
ٱلسَّمِيعُ
al-sami'u
(is) the All-Hearer
ٱلۡعَلِيمُ
al-'alimu
the All-Knower
٥

But as for those who strive for their meeting with God, God’s appointed time is bound to come; He is the All Seeing, the All Knowing

29:6
وَمَن
waman
And whoever
جَٰهَدَ
jahada
strives
فَإِنَّمَا
fa-innama
then only
يُجَٰهِدُ
yujahidu
he strives
لِنَفۡسِهِۦٓۚ
linafsihi
for himself
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
لَغَنِيٌّ
laghaniyyun
(is) Free from need
عَنِ
ani
of
ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
al-'alamina
the worlds
٦

Those who exert themselves do so for their own benefit––God does not need His creatures––
