4:142
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ
al-munafiqina
the hypocrites
يُخَٰدِعُونَ
yukhadi'una
(seek to) deceive
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
وَهُوَ
wahuwa
and (it is) He
خَٰدِعُهُمۡ
khadi'uhum
who deceives them
وَإِذَا
wa-idha
And when
قَامُوٓاْ
qamu
they stand
إِلَى
ila
for
ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ
al-salati
the prayer
قَامُواْ
qamu
they stand
كُسَالَىٰ
kusala
lazily
يُرَآءُونَ
yurauna
showing off
ٱلنَّاسَ
al-nasa
(to) the people
وَلَا
wala
and not
يَذۡكُرُونَ
yadhkuruna
they remember
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
إِلَّا
illa
except
قَلِيلٗا
qalilan
a little
١٤٢

The hypocrites try to deceive God, but it is He who causes them to be deceived. When they stand up to pray, they do so sluggishly, showing off in front of people, and remember God only a little

Translation 1260

4:143
مُّذَبۡذَبِينَ
mudhabdhabina
Wavering
بَيۡنَ
bayna
between
ذَٰلِكَ
dhalika
that
لَآ
la
not
إِلَىٰ
ila
to
هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ
haulai
these
وَلَآ
wala
and not
إِلَىٰ
ila
to
هَٰٓؤُلَآءِۚ
haulai
those
وَمَن
waman
And whoever
يُضۡلِلِ
yud'lili
has been lead astray
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
(by) Allah
فَلَن
falan
then never
تَجِدَ
tajida
you will find
لَهُۥ
lahu
for him
سَبِيلٗا
sabilan
a way
١٤٣

wavering all the time between this and that, belonging neither to one side nor the other. If God leaves someone to stray, you [Prophet] will never find a way for him

Translation 1260

4:144
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
yaayyuha
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
who
ءَامَنُواْ
amanu
believe[d]
لَا
la
(Do) not
تَتَّخِذُواْ
tattakhidhu
take
ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ
al-kafirina
the disbelievers
أَوۡلِيَآءَ
awliyaa
(as) allies
مِن
min
from
دُونِ
duni
instead of
ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَۚ
al-mu'minina
the believers
أَتُرِيدُونَ
aturiduna
Do you wish
أَن
an
that
تَجۡعَلُواْ
taj'alu
you make
لِلَّهِ
lillahi
for Allah
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
alaykum
against you
سُلۡطَٰنٗا
sul'tanan
an evidence
مُّبِينًا
mubinan
clear
١٤٤

You who believe, do not take the disbelievers as allies and protectors instead of the believers: do you want to offer God clear proof against you

Translation 1260

4:145
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ
al-munafiqina
the hypocrites
فِي
fi
(will be) in
ٱلدَّرۡكِ
al-darki
the depths
ٱلۡأَسۡفَلِ
al-asfali
the lowest
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلنَّارِ
al-nari
the Fire
وَلَن
walan
and never
تَجِدَ
tajida
you will find
لَهُمۡ
lahum
for them
نَصِيرًا
nasiran
any helper
١٤٥

The hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of Hell, and you will find no one to help them

Translation 1260

4:146
إِلَّا
illa
Except
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
those who
تَابُواْ
tabu
repent
وَأَصۡلَحُواْ
wa-aslahu
and correct (themselves)
وَٱعۡتَصَمُواْ
wa-i'tasamu
and hold fast
بِٱللَّهِ
bil-lahi
to Allah
وَأَخۡلَصُواْ
wa-akhlasu
and are sincere
دِينَهُمۡ
dinahum
(in) their religion
لِلَّهِ
lillahi
for Allah
فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ
fa-ulaika
then those (will be)
مَعَ
ma'a
with
ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَۖ
al-mu'minina
the believers
وَسَوۡفَ
wasawfa
And soon
يُؤۡتِ
yu'ti
will be given
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
(by) Allah
ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ
al-mu'minina
the believers
أَجۡرًا
ajran
a reward
عَظِيمٗا
aziman
great
١٤٦

Not so those who repent, mend their ways, hold fast to God, and devote their religion entirely to Him: these will be joined with the believers, and God will give the believers a mighty reward

Translation 1260

4:147
مَّا
ma
What
يَفۡعَلُ
yaf 'alu
would do
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah
بِعَذَابِكُمۡ
bi'adhabikum
by punishing you
إِن
in
if
شَكَرۡتُمۡ
shakartum
you are grateful
وَءَامَنتُمۡۚ
waamantum
and you believe
وَكَانَ
wakana
And is
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah
شَاكِرًا
shakiran
All-Appreciative
عَلِيمٗا
aliman
All-Knowing
١٤٧

Why should God make you suffer torment if you are thankful and believe in Him? God always rewards gratitude and He knows everything

ٱلۡجَهۡرَ

the public mention
بِٱلسُّوٓءِ
bil-sui
of [the] evil
مِنَ

ٱلۡقَوۡلِ
al-qawli
[the] words
إِلَّا
illa
except
مَن
man
(by the one) who
ظُلِمَۚ
zulima
has been wronged
وَكَانَ
wakana
And is
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah
سَمِيعًا
sami'an
All-Hearing
عَلِيمًا
aliman
All-Knowing
١٤٨

God does not like bad words to be made public unless someone has been wronged: He is all hearing and all knowing

4:149
إِن

تُبۡدُواْ

you disclose
خَيۡرًا
khayran
a good
أَوۡ
aw
or
تُخۡفُوهُ
tukh'fuhu
you conceal it
أَوۡ
aw
or
تَعۡفُواْ
ta'fu
pardon
عَن
an
[of]
سُوٓءٖ
suin
an evil
فَإِنَّ
fa-inna
then indeed
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
كَانَ
kana
is
عَفُوّٗا
afuwwan
Oft-Pardoning
قَدِيرًا
qadiran
All-Powerful
١٤٩

If you do good, openly or in secret, or if you pardon something bad,then God is most forgiving and powerful

Translation 1260

4:150
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
alladhina
those who
يَكۡفُرُونَ
yakfuruna
disbelieve
بِٱللَّهِ
bil-lahi
in Allah
وَرُسُلِهِۦ
warusulihi
and His Messengers
وَيُرِيدُونَ
wayuriduna
and they wish
أَن
an
that
يُفَرِّقُواْ
yufarriqu
they differentiate
بَيۡنَ
bayna
between
ٱللَّهِ
al-lahi
Allah
وَرُسُلِهِۦ
warusulihi
and His Messengers
وَيَقُولُونَ
wayaquluna
and they say
نُؤۡمِنُ
nu'minu
We believe
بِبَعۡضٖ
biba'din
in some
وَنَكۡفُرُ
wanakfuru
and we disbelieve
بِبَعۡضٖ
biba'din
in others
وَيُرِيدُونَ
wayuriduna
And they wish
أَن
an
that
يَتَّخِذُواْ
yattakhidhu
they take
بَيۡنَ
bayna
between
ذَٰلِكَ
dhalika
that
سَبِيلًا
sabilan
a way
١٥٠

As for those who ignore God and His messengers and want to make a distinction between them, saying, ‘We believe in some but not in others,’ seeking a middle way

Translation 1260

4:151
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ
ulaika
Those
هُمُ
humu
they
ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ
al-kafiruna
(are) the disbelievers
حَقّٗاۚ
haqqan
truly
وَأَعۡتَدۡنَا
wa-a'tadna
And We have prepared
لِلۡكَٰفِرِينَ
lil'kafirina
for the disbelievers
عَذَابٗا
adhaban
a punishment
مُّهِينٗا
muhinan
humiliating
١٥١

they are really disbelievers: We have prepared a humiliating punishment for those who disbelieve

4:152
وَٱلَّذِينَ
wa-alladhina
And those who
ءَامَنُواْ
amanu
believe
بِٱللَّهِ
bil-lahi
in Allah
وَرُسُلِهِۦ
warusulihi
and His Messengers
وَلَمۡ
walam
and not
يُفَرِّقُواْ
yufarriqu
they differentiate
بَيۡنَ
bayna
between
أَحَدٖ
ahadin
(any) one
مِّنۡهُمۡ
min'hum
of them
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ
ulaika
those
سَوۡفَ
sawfa
soon
يُؤۡتِيهِمۡ
yu'tihim
He will give them
أُجُورَهُمۡۚ
ujurahum
their reward
وَكَانَ
wakana
And is
ٱللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah
غَفُورٗا
ghafuran
Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٗا
rahiman
Most Merciful
١٥٢

But God will give [due] rewards to those who believe in Him and His messengers and make no distinction between any of them. God is most forgiving and merciful
