إِنَّ لِلَّهِ مَا أَخَذَ وَلَهُ مَا أَعْطَى وَكُلٌّ عِنْدَهُ بِأَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى
Transliteration
Inna lillaahi maa 'akhadha, wa lahu maa 'a'taa, wa kullun 'indahu bi'ajalin musamma
Translation
Whatever Allah takes is His, and whatever He gives is His, and everything with Him has a limited fixed term (in this world).
Everything belongs to Allah. Every loss has its time. This masnun dua teaches us this truth. Hearts find patience and Muslims learn to trust Allah's plan when death comes.
We say innalillahiwainnailaihirojiun. It means we belong to Allah and return to Him. This is a kind way to give condolences and remember that Allah controls life and death.
Surah Yasin, Surah Al-Waqiah, and Surah Al-Mulk are read for the dead. People pick these because they talk about akhirah and bring comfort to family and friends.
Say inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajiun. This short dua reminds us: life comes from Allah and we all go back to Him. It gives patience and comfort when things get hard.
