Prayer for Praising Allah When People Praise You

When people praised one Companion, he would always say this:

اَللَّهُمَّ لَا تُؤَاخِذْنِي بِمَا يَقُولُونَ، وَاغْفِرْ لِي مَا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ، وَاجْعَلْنِي خَيْرًا مِمَّا يَظُّنُّونَ

Transliteration

Allaahumma laa tu'aakhidhnee bimaa yaqooloon, waghfir lee maa laa ya'lamoon waj'alnee khayram-mimmaa yadhunnoon

Translation

O Allah, do not call me to account for what they say and forgive me for what they have no knowledge of and make me better than they imagine.

Hadith about the Dua

"حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلاَمٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ‏:‏ احْتَجَّتِ النَّارُ وَالْجَنَّةُ، فَقَالَتِ النَّارُ‏:‏ يَدْخُلُنِي الْمُتَكَبِّرُونَ وَالْمُتَجَبِّرُونَ‏.‏ وَقَالَتِ الْجَنَّةُ‏:‏ لاَ يَدْخُلُنِي إِلاَّ الضُّعَفَاءُ الْمَسَاكِينُ‏.‏ فَقَالَ لِلنَّارِ‏:‏ أَنْتِ عَذَابِي، أَنْتَقِمُ بِكِ مِمَّنْ شِئْتُ، وَقَالَ لِلْجَنَّةِ‏:‏ أَنْتِ رَحْمَتِي أَرْحَمُ بِكِ مَنْ شِئْتُ‏.‏

When to Recite Dua To Praise Allah

Common Questions

Say Subhaanallaahi, walhamdu lillaahi, wa laa ilaaha illallaahu, wallaahu Akbar. These words praise Allah and thank Him. Good Islamic prayers to say daily.

Astaghfirullah is very strong. The longer form is Astaghfirullāha rabbī wa-atūbu ilayhi. The Prophet said this many times - it shows forgiveness matters a lot.

Say Astaghfirullāhal-`Aẓīm alladhī lā ilāha illā huwal-Ḥayyul-Qayyūm wa atūbu ilaih. This dua cleans sins and brings you close to Allah's kindness.
