فَٱتَّقُواْ
fa-ittaqu
So fear
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
وَأَطِيعُونِ
wa-ati'uni
and obey me

وَمَآ

And not
أَسۡـَٔلُكُمۡ

I ask you
عَلَيۡهِ

Not
أَجۡرِيَ
ajriya
(is) my payment
إِلَّا
illa
except
عَلَىٰ
ala
from
رَبِّ
rabbi
(the) Lord
ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
al-'alamina
(of) the worlds

I ask no reward of you, for my only reward is with the Lord of the Worlds

أَتَبۡنُونَ
atabnuna
Do you construct
بِكُلِّ
bikulli
on every
رِيعٍ
ri'in
elevation
ءَايَةٗ
ayatan
a sign
تَعۡبَثُونَ
ta'bathuna
amusing yourselves

How can you be so vain that you set up monuments on every high place

26:129
وَتَتَّخِذُونَ
watattakhidhuna
And take for yourselves
مَصَانِعَ
masani'a
strongholds
لَعَلَّكُمۡ
la'allakum
that you may
تَخۡلُدُونَ
takhluduna
live forever

Do you build fortresses because you hope to be immortal

وَإِذَا
wa-idha
And when
بَطَشۡتُم
batashtum
you seize
بَطَشۡتُمۡ
batashtum
you seize
جَبَّارِينَ
jabbarina
(as) tyrants

Why do you act like tyrants whenever you attack someone

فَٱتَّقُواْ
fa-ittaqu
So fear
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
وَأَطِيعُونِ
wa-ati'uni
and obey me

Be mindful of God and obey me

وَٱتَّقُواْ
wa-ittaqu
And fear
ٱلَّذِيٓ
alladhi
the One Who
أَمَدَّكُم
amaddakum
has aided you
بِمَا
bima
with what
تَعۡلَمُونَ
ta'lamuna
you know

be mindful of Him who has provided you with everything you know

أَمَدَّكُم
amaddakum
He has aided you
بِأَنۡعَٰمٖ
bi-an'amin
with cattle
وَبَنِينَ
wabanina
and children
١٣٣
He has given you livestock, sons

وَجَنَّٰتٖ
wajannatin
And gardens
وَعُيُونٍ
wa'uyunin
and springs
١٣٤
gardens, springs

26:135
إِنِّيٓ
inni
Indeed I
أَخَافُ
akhafu
[I] fear
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
alaykum
for you
عَذَابَ
adhaba
(the) punishment
يَوۡمٍ
yawmin
(of) a Day
عَظِيمٖ
azimin
Great
١٣٥
for I truly fear that the torment of a grievous day will overtake you.’

قَالُواْ
qalu
They said
سَوَآءٌ
sawaon
(It is) same
عَلَيۡنَآ
alayna
to us
أَوَعَظۡتَ
awa'azta
whether you advise
أَمۡ
am
or
لَمۡ
lam
not
تَكُن
takun
you are
مِّنَ
mina
of
ٱلۡوَٰعِظِينَ
al-wa'izina
the advisors
١٣٦
They replied, ‘It makes no difference to us whether you warn us or not

هَٰذَآ
hadha
(is) this
إِلَّا
illa
but
خُلُقُ
khuluqu
(the) custom
ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
al-awalina
(of) the former (people)

for we only do what our forefathers used to do

26:138
وَمَا
wama
And not
نَحۡنُ
nahnu
we
بِمُعَذَّبِينَ
bimu'adhabina
(are) the ones to be punished
١٣٨
we shall not be punished.’

فَكَذَّبُوهُ
fakadhabuhu
So they denied him
فَأَهۡلَكۡنَٰهُمۡۚ
fa-ahlaknahum
then We destroyed them
إِنَّ
inna
Indeed
فِي
fi
in
ذَٰلِكَ
dhalika
that
لَأٓيَةٗۖ
laayatan
surely is a sign
وَمَا
wama
but not
كَانَ
kana
are
أَكۡثَرُهُم
aktharuhum
most of them
مُّؤۡمِنِينَ
mu'minina
believers
١٣٩
They denounced him as a liar, and so We destroyed them. There truly is a sign in this, though most of them do not believe

وَإِنَّ
wa-inna
And indeed
رَبَّكَ
rabbaka
your Lord
لَهُوَ
lahuwa
surely He
ٱلۡعَزِيزُ
al-'azizu
(is) the All-Mighty
ٱلرَّحِيمُ
al-rahimu
the Most Merciful

your Lord alone is the Almighty, the Merciful

ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ

the Messengers

The people of Thamud, too, called the messengers liars

أَخُوهُمۡ

صَٰلِحٌ

Salih
أَلَا
ala
Will not

you fear (Allah)

Their brother Salih said to them, ‘Will you not be mindful of God

Indeed I am
لَكُمۡ

to you
رَسُولٌ
rasulun
a Messenger
أَمِينٞ
aminun
trustworthy

I am a faithful messenger to you

ٱللَّهَ

[Do you think] you will be left secure for ever in what you have here

وَعُيُونٖ

وَزُرُوعٖ

And cornfields
وَنَخۡلٖ
wanakhlin
and date-palms
طَلۡعُهَا
tal'uha
its spadix
هَضِيمٞ

soft

fields, palm trees laden with fruit

وَتَنۡحِتُونَ
watanhituna
And you carve
مِنَ
mina
of
ٱلۡجِبَالِ
al-jibali
the mountains
بُيُوتٗا
buyutan
houses
فَٰرِهِينَ
farihina
skillfully
١٤٩
carving your fine houses from the mountains

فَٱتَّقُواْ
fa-ittaqu
So fear
ٱللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
وَأَطِيعُونِ
wa-ati'uni
and obey me
